Do parental control filters like AntiPorn (downloaded from CNET) work during private browsing sessions?

The community discussion about deleting or turning off private browsing was pretty dismissive. People just said: get a filter. That raises the question, is there anything about the private browsing feature that would insulate it from the monitoring function of a parental control filter? CNET strongly endorsed AntiPorn, a free download, which I'm considering using. So the question is, if Private Browsing gets turned on, will it still work to block objectionable sites? I run Firefox with Windows 7 Starter on an HP netbook.

Sorry if this comes to late, I just now came across this thread.  I have rtorrent and rutorrent sunning successfully on my x64 Arch Linux install.
Try putting the "SCGIMount /RPC2 127.0.0.1:5000" line in your httpd.conf file right after the LoadModule lines (it's line 124 for me).
I seem to recall it not working when I put it at the end of the file.
Best of Luck!

Right-click on your main iTunes folder and click Properties, then go to the Security tab and click Advanced. If necessary grant your account and system full control to this folder, subfolders and files, then tick the option to replace permissions on child objects which will repair permissions throughout the library. This is the XP dialog but Windows 7 shouldn't be too different.

I'm in the U.S. and would like to download from U.K. itunes.

Because whoever holds the copyright to the music in the USA hasn't granted Apple permission to sell it there. For a small artist or band, there may not be anyone who can do that.

Hi my friends why I can't download from App Store, during the download process shows error code 9001

In short, because you are in Iran and probably trying to use the App store in another country. You can search the forums for several other threads on this topic.

  • How do I prevent old tabs from restoring when firefox is closed during a private browsing session

OK, if I'm in a private browsing session and completely close FF (without first ending private browsing), the next time that I start it, the tabs that were open prior to starting private browsing are restored. I have it set to open my home page (yahoo) when starting Firefox.
    How do I change this?

It sounds as though Firefox is treating it as a "crash" when you don't return to non-private browsing before shutting down. I don't know whether there is a way to change that: nothing in the browser.sessionstore.* preferences jumps out at me as controlling that behavior.

  • How do I clear my bookmarks from the Firefox browser on a public computer, having synced my account to see them during a browsing session?

Here's what I'm trying to achieve:
    1. I use Firefox on someone else's computer and sync my account to retrieve my bookmarks. (This works.)
    2. After finishing my browsing session, I sign out of my Firefox account, and my bookmarks are cleared from the Firefox browser. (This doesn't work.)
I have tried the following options:
    a) Open menu > Options > Sync > untick 'Bookmarks' > OK. This doesn't clear my bookmarks from the browser, not even if I close and open it again. They all show up.
    b) Open menu > Options > Sync > under Firefox Account click 'Disconnect' > OK. This doesn't clear my bookmarks either, only necessecitates me signing in to sync again.
I understand there used to be an option to 'unlink this device', which may clear all data including bookmarks, but I can't find it anywhere. I've also read an article suggesting clearing bookmarks etc can be achieved by deleting your Firefox profile from a device, but I fear this will delete global options such that I won't be able to access them on my home computer.
Surely there must be a way of siging in then out of the Firefox account on different computers, like you can with e-mail, without leaving all your bookmarks etc open for every other user to see afterwards? I'm transfering to Firefox from Chrome precisely because it doesn't have the capacity to do this (scarily), and to clear my bookmarks from a friends' browser, I had to uninstall Chrome on her computer!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    1. Sync wasn't intended to be used in that manner. You would be better off carrying around a USB Flash Stick with Portable Firefox for use on "strange" PC's.
    2. You could open the "Library" {Ctrl + Shift + B} and highlight all those bookmarks and then delete them all at once. But that would also delete all the other bookmarks, and it isn't foolproof. All another person would need to do it to '''''restore''''' a bookmark backup file that has your bookmarks. Beyond that, a new Profile could be created and then the current Profile deleted; but that's "messing with" someone else's computer - an action that is worthy of terminating a friendship over, IMO.
And if that "public" computer was set up properly, Sync should have been disabled.

Sorry you cannot. And even if there was a way to disable Private Browsing, anyone can always delete Firefox browsing history.

  • Dreamweaver cc not displaying page downloaded from a working web site which I can view

I have tried installing Dreamweaver cs6 and cc both of which I have pulled down a working web site that I am able to view on my PC windows 8.1 also tried on Windows 7 both x64.
When I open the index page in any of the mentioned Dreamweavers it asks to install the latest Shockwave player which I do but at the end of install it states it is already installed  then I've tried the
Manage add ons in iE11 to able or disable shockwave, also Saftey active x filtering on & off.
Does anyone have any suggestions please?
    William.

You mention DW and IE almost as if one requires the other for add-ons. Are these problems happening in DW itself, or when you choose Preview in Browser using IE?
If this is happening during previewing in IE, you need to reduce IE's security settings to view locally stored .swf content, which is insane of course, but it is Microsoft, so it doesn't always make any sense.
If it's happening in DW, I'm not sure how you would go about fixing that, I haven't added Flash to a website in years due to iOS and Android not being able to render it. Most mobile devices can't see Flash, Adobe actually discontinued development of Flash for mobile a few years back, so the list of devices that Flash won't work on grows continuously.
It's a dead technology as far as websites go. Switching over to html5, css and javascript for animations, effects and audio/video is the way to do it these days if you want to offer the content to your mobile viewers.

  • Open links from other apps in Private Browsing

When other Android apps open links in the default web browser, Firefox Mobile launches them in a normal new tab. How can I force these links to open in Private Browsing?

I'm not aware of a built-in way to do this: as far as I can see, Firefox for Android cannot be set to create new tabs automatically in private browsing mode. I took a quick look at the Add-ons site and didn't see a solution there, either. Hopefully you will get some more promising responses.

  • HT201304 iOS parental controls do not prevent the child from changing the device passcode.

So the parent cannot get into the device at all unless the child provides the passcode. Sure, the device can be taken away until the child provides the passcode, but why don't parental controls just prevent the passcode from being changed?  Either that, or the parental control passcode should allow the parent to get into the device, over-riding the passcode lock.

We are not Apple iOS programmers.  Just device users like yourself.
feedback.apple.com is where you should send suggestions.

  • Automator actions in Parental Controlled log-in

I have an Automator workflow that has a few actions in it which I am looking to use in a parental controlled users log-in (mainly because it will be for public use, and I want the availability to be limited as possible.
I have set up the user account to enable things like Preview and Actionscript which are used in the workflow, but I seem to get to one point which is an Action from Automator, and it fails. I have enabled Automator, but that doesnt seem to work either. Is there something I can enable in Parental Controls that will mean these actions will work successfully? I know this is a bit vague, and hard to explain without seeing the workflow, but Im just wondering if anyone knows what the actions would be operated by if it isnt Automator itself?
    Cheers
    Alastair

The basic set of Automator actions is located in the /System/Library/Automator folder. Other actions can be downloaded, but an application can also provide actions that Automator loads from the application bundle. I'm not sure how the parental controls figure into it, but if you are using an action from an application that is not allowed, perhaps Automator isn't loading it - what kind of error are you getting?

  • Parental Controls - Internet Access Stopped!

My wife has a white MacBook running Leopard 10.5.8.  It has worked fine for two years.  Nothing was changed.  She could not change anythign due to being logged into a managed account.
It could always access the internet over our home (or any available) WiFi perfectly.  All of a sudden, yesterday afternoon, her managed account with "Parental Controls" enabled cannot access any internet.  Safari mentions that it cannot access the server.  When checking the network setting all seems fine, it can access the WiFi router.
The administrator account can access the internet over WiFi just fine.
I created another account called Test.  In standard mode it can access the internet over WiFi just fine, but when i turn on "Parental Controls" Safari, or any other internet related program cannot access the internet.  This includes the software update in the Finder.
What's going on?  i have found similar issues on the Apple Support Communities going back unanswered to 2007!

    Beach Dude,
I have the same problem, and have had on virtually every operating system since Parental Controls was introduced.
I have multiple kids with individual accounts. THe perplexing thing is that if I enable parental controls on my daughter's account,  it works fine. I can set time limits, etc... and it works! But if I so much as turn on parental controls in my youngest son's account, every web browser is unable to connect to the internet at all from his account.
BUGGY software. And apple knows it is buggy, but it isn't core system stuff so they ignore the problem.  I even tried setting up a new account for him and moving his old files over and resetting permissions. Still the same problem.
I've searched high and low for a solution and found none. I have found a limited number of users with the same complaint...and absolute silence from apple....
There is nothing on these boards that has worked, and I've tried several different solutions.  Most responses are the useless kind, "change the setting in parental controls" kind of sophomoric advice from people who just assume what the problem is instead of reading our description of it.
Anyway, I haven't found a good alternate software solution for limiting the time and hours for children's accounts; but I did find an excellent tool for managing internet content access. It is called opendns and it is free and it works!  Do a google search for "opennds" if your primary concern is managing access to web content.  If you come up with a good solution for fixing parental controls so that it doesn't just cut off web access, please let me know here - or if you find an alternate software solution that allows an administrator to set time limits for standard accounts, I would like to know that too.
    Regards

  • Parental Controls trivial to bypass in any home router?

In trying to figure out why the parental controls in my Linksys router were not working, I learned that my kid had trivally by-passed the parental controls that I had set up.  I found his PC was associated with multiple MAC addresses.  A simple google search found this Youtube video that even a grade school kid could follow.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fqdib7D-MCY At the end, the poster goes to the Linksys help page for Parental Control just to laugh.  This means at All MAC based access controls and parental controls are useless in any product.  More research on DNS based partental controls shows they are trival to bypass as well.  Installing a control on his PC requires taking away Admin access from his Window login and prevent software install, but then I have to install all the games and software and  that's easy to circumvent too.  Any recommendations other than taking my kids computer away?

Not sure this works but try setting up the MAC allow list for only the one MAC that is on the pc itself. set it up under Wireless>MAC filtering and click on the Allow button and add only the addresses you want ot have access. Unless your kid knows the password of the router and is able to changes settings in the router then when he changes his MAC is should not connect at all.edit: to add to this. you would need to use the mac filtering as well as the parental controls. If he changes his mac and it still gets in then that is definately a problem. Move the pc to the living room. Best parental control there is!

  • Leopard's Safari parental controls should have kept Tiger's approach

Parental controls for Safari in Leopard do not work as well as Tiger's. Tiger had the option to allow only sites that are bookmarked. Now you have to add them in the parental control's dialog. But more annoying and worst behavior is that you must approve each variation of a domain. Tiger would allow you to bookmark a site such as:
    www.apple.com
and subdomains would automatically be approved such as:
    support.apple.com
    forums.apple.com
But now you have to approve each sub domain and each variation on the URL for the approved domain. It would be much easier and more effective to control if you allow domain level approval and re-add the option in the Parental Controls dialog to allow only the bookmarked sites again.
Any ideas on how to get around this or make it behave more like Tiger.

Actually, you can still use Safari controls just like Tiger-- dragging sites to the bookmarks bar requests admin approval and then adds them to the bookmarks bar, as well as the user's whitelist for all browsers. Also, the domains/subdomains behavior you mention is present in Leopard. When I add http://pbskids.org to the whitelist, all addresses under http://pbskids.org/ are allowed.

  • Parental Controls in Safari 10.5.2 Stops Itune's Store Access

Well I have spent several hours trying to correct a problem that seems to have started when I started to use the built in Parental Controls of Mac OS 10.5.2 on my son's new MacBook! All other software and internet access worked, yet his Itunes could not connect to the Itunes store. I would get error mesages -50 and -4. Interestingly enough, if you clicked on an artist or album in his library, you could get in "the back door" as it would take you to that artists page within the Itunes Store. I left parental controls within Itunes were turned off.
I contacted Apple Support and together we deleted preferences, Itunes itself and reinstalled (with restarts) to no avail. We used the disk utilities and repaired etc, yet ultimately the problem remained and he directed me here to the forums after giving up.
Then I turned off Parental Controls within Safari and restarted (it might work without the restart yet I did so just in case), PRESTO!! Itunes opens to the Itunes Store.
This would imply to me that there is a bug in the Mac OS Parental Controls. Has anyone else had this problem and has Apple announced when a fix date is coming?
I bought my son's MacBook BECAUSE of the Parental Controls built in, yet Itunes sort of goes hand in hand with kids so to me, this is a big problem....

I also posted this elsewhere in Discussions, but if this helps some other folks out, then the duplication is worth it!
    ==============
I also spent about 2 hours with Apple Tech Support today on this issue. The only workaround I could find was to DISABLE parental controls.
In the iTunes/Store thread in Discussions, there was a link to give Apple feedback on this issue. Here is the link to the feedback page; to get this fixed, I think Apple has to really hear from us. Maybe this is a place to give that kind of feedback:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
Also, having parental controls enables also caused access problems for my child at Webkinz and a school-controlled email account. A thread elsewhere in Discussions listed the IP addresses for Webkinz (also on Webkinz help page here:

After going through the thread, here are all the IPs (for your convenience):
