Do parental controls prevent adding a mail account

We have engaged the parental controls for our daughter on her ibook. We needed to add her email account to the mail program, but when we opened the mail program under her account the program seemed to simply crash. We could only add her email through the parental/admin account. Does anyone know if the parental controls prevent the adding of an email address through the non-admin account?

I have now added my old password tothe outgoing mail server and I can send emails from my iphone mail account!
My mail account on the Iphone connects with my laptop account but they are both logged in on different passwords! how can this happen?
Thank you

  • Adding family mail accounts to Mac mail

I have set up my mail account to receive mail from Hotmail. Can I also add my children's mail or is it just for one user?

The Mail app can receive messages from any number of different email accounts at once.  However, it might be better to give your children separate user accounts on the Mac with parental controls, and set up Mail for each user accordingly.

When opening my Outlook 2010 with new added e-mail account with Exchange Server supplied by my employer, I have to click manually on my standard e-mail account for checking mail. Do I have to upgrade my Microsoft Office 2010 or how can I make my Outlook

    Hello Ketil,
    Good Day...
Seems to be the Issue is Syncing emails, now I would recommend you to Remove and Add the Account and try and check if the emails are getting synced automatically.
Hope this is with Single User. If it is with Multiple Users then we need to check the permissions assigned.

  • Adding a Mail Account on the IPhone

Can any-one help? I am fed up with calling BT!
I migrated onto BT Mail a few days ago and my mail account stopped working on my iphone.  So I deleted the account and set up a new one with my new password but it will not accept it.
I decided to try adding it again under my old password and it added the account?!! It is showing my incoming emails but however will not send anything.
    So in short ........
Web mail works with my new password not the old one
Laptop works with my new password not the old one
Iphone mail account only accepts my old password and not my new one (apart from outgoing mail)
I am logged in on my laptop as we speak with my new password and can see my emails and at the same time I have my mail account open on my iphone with the old password and can see exactly the same as on my computer.
I have just deleted a email on my iphone and it has shown as deleted on my laptop even though they are both logged in under different passwords.
I do need to send emails from my mobile too which is the only reason I am bothering to try and sort this out :-(
    Thank you

  • Windows Vista Parental Controls Preventing Connection to iTunes Store?

I really have two questions, one of which I think I have resolved but would like to find a more elegant way of handling. Let's tackle that first, after I provide some background.
I have been "managing" the contents of my son's iPod using my computer. Now that he has his own computer it should be up to him. I have two users established on his computer, with me as administrator. I have set up parental controls and am specifiying the websites he can access. I used an external hard drive to copy all his music files to his computer, putting them in a folder under his user name.
When he tries to play music copied from CD's or purchased from iTunes using my computer, a message pops up that says "The song <song name> could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" Absent a way to locate all such songs simultaneously, I click on the yes button and scroll through the list of songs until I find the one desired. Is there a better way, or are he and I going to have do repeat this hundreds of times? I think this needs to be resolved before he tries to sync his iPod with his computer. Correct?
The second problem crops up when he tries to purchase songs from iTunes. The error message reads "We could not complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error occured (-9808). There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later." Apple.com is one of the sites he is allowed to visit, and there is no mention of parental controls or filtering (normally when that happens I am allowed to override with my password). Also, the computer has been authorized. Has anyone experienced anything like this or know what the workaround is? Does it have to do with parental controls, or is it something else?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello, Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I have a few things to offer that may make things a bit easier. You mention the library or music content is on an External HD and you copied it to his PC. Is the Hard Data aka the songs themselves still on the computer in a folder?
If so. Delete the songs in iTunes, Select 1 song, then Edit Select All, and Delete from Library. Now go to iTunes - Edit - Preferences- Advanced Tab
-Put a check mark in Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized, Copy files to iTunes Music Folder when adding to the library. Thus whenever songs get added into iTunes a hard copy will be copied into the iTunes music directory stored in
Music - iTunes - iTunes Music.
-Now exit out of Preferences, Go to File - Add Folder to Library - (assuming all the songs from the HD are in 1 massive folder) and browse for this folder. iTunes will scan it, add it into iTunes, and then copy a hard digital copy into the Music-iTunes-iTunes Music folder. You can go confirm the files are there by visiting the folder. The file size of the iTunes folder should grow as you add more and more music.
Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • Can I get back bookmarks that disappeared after parental controls were added?

I made a misstake.  I was testing out parental controls and it prompted me to create an administrator account and put my account under parental controls.  When I did that and applied restrictions to my account i set it so that only accepted sites (ones allowed by the administerator and in the bookmarks bar) could be visit.
After a few days I went back and deled the administrator and got rid of parental controls but now all my bookmarks and folders are gone.
Is there a way I can get all my bookmarks back?
(I don't have a time machine hooked up, but I am running OSX 10.7 Lion)

Sorry for the confusion, but I had account 1 (which is my account) when I initiated parental controls it asked me to create an adminsitrator account, so I created account 2 (a new adminstrator account).  When a deleted the adminstrator acccunt (account 2) thus deactivating the aparental controls, all the bookmarks that were hidden during parental controls were now gone.  So I was just curious if they were deleted or if somehow I can find the file that contains all my bookmarks (maybe it's just hidden).  Thanks!

  • Parental Controls prevents execution of Firefox

    Hi,
I've two mac minis, each one with a different OS X (10.5.8 and 10.6.5).
I've set up a "managed" account and restricted which applications to use.
Under 10.5, I selected firefox from the Parental Controls' Internet menu, and it's working without problems.
Under 10.6, I also selected firefox from the Parental Controls' Internet menu, but whenever I try to run it complains with "you don't have permission to use the application firefox".
I've tested with different versions of Firefox and still the same behaviour.
I've recreated the account several times without luck.
    Any hint?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Andreas

Thanks for the tip, but the odds of anyone from Apple picking this up are nil. To report this to Apple, send Feedback and a bug report via its Bug Reporter system. To do the latter, join the Apple Developer Connection (ADC)—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report/enhancement request. The nice thing with this procedure over submitting feedback is that you get a response and a follow-up number; thus, starting a dialog with engineering.

  • Adding Various Mail Accounts

I just got my MacBook and I am trying to figure out the application Mail...
I have an educatino e-mail account set up through my university and I was wondering if I might be able to link that account to Mail... When I go to my education account, I have to type a user name and a password and then I acces my mail. Because of that, will I not be able to sync Mail to that account?
I also would like to add my Yahoo! account as well as my AOL account..
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks-
    Nick

Mail is a standard POP & IMAP mail client. You can set up in Mail any mail account that allows either POP or IMAP access, but there is no way for anyone here to know what the specific settings are supposed to be for your education account.
Instructions for setting up an AOL account in Mail, for example, can be found here:
    http://members.aol.com/adamkb/aol/mailfaq/imap/applemail.html
The instructions are for Mail 1.3, and are somewhat outdated, but they can be used for Mail 2.x as well noting that the Special Mailboxes preference pane is called Mailbox Behaviors in Mail 2.x, and that, if I’m not mistaken, you can enable SSL if you wish.
You may also want to read the more general guide the above article is part of (which is also somewhat outdated, but still useful to understand how AOL’s IMAP access works):
Accessing the AOL Mail System using IMAP - An Unofficial Guide
Instead of the settings shown in the article for Trash, you may want to turn ON Move deleted messages to the Trash, but in that case you should turn OFF Store deleted messages on the server.
AOL doesn’t let IMAP clients such as Mail to create or manage mailboxes at the root level of the account directory, only as subfolders of Saved -- that’s why you must turn OFF Store messages on the server for all the mailboxes in Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors, so that they are stored locally instead.
Alternatively to manually setting up the AOL account in Mail, you may use AOL Service Assistant, which also provides assistance for using other AOL services in Mac OS X.
Finally, note that AOL automatically purges your mail from the Inbox after some time. There is nothing you can do about it other than moving/copying your messages somewhere else to avoid losing them. You can create custom local “On My Mac” mailboxes in Mail, for example, and move/copy your mail there manually or set up rules to do it automatically.

  • Parental Controls Fails to Log Managed Account Out (logs included)

I use Parental Controls to limit my children's time playing video games (my time, too). The forced logout often fails. In particular, the screen flashes and the voice are present, but the forced logout doesn't happen, and the child (or me) is free to continue wasting time. Here's the relevant portion of system.log:

Note the similarity to the earlier post by Mike Harris (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6259747). Unfortunately, this one is somewhat different; the error returned by CGSCreateLoginSession is 1010. In CGError.h, this error is defined as: kCGErrorInvalidOperation. If I could see what arguments were being passed to CGSCreateLoginSession, this might help...
Following this failure, there's a crash log written for the SecurityAgent, which suggests a bus error, though I'm guessing this is not related to the root cause.

Sadly, this sequence did not solve the problem, though I do have a bit more information.
Firstly; following a reboot, the first forced logout worked correctly, and subsequent ones failed; I believe that this is always the case. That is, it always works the first time after rebooting, and fails thereafter.
With respect to your suggestions: the preference file was loginwindow.plist, not com.apple.loginwindow.plist. I did delete it, and it was re-created; it looks pretty innocuous. Using the Property List Editor to convert it to XML, it looks like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
    <plist version="1.0">
    <dict>
    <key>BuildVersionStampAsNumber</key>
    <integer>19269344</integer>
    <key>BuildVersionStampAsString</key>
    <string>9G55</string>
    <key>SystemVersionStampAsNumber</key>
    <integer>168101376</integer>
    <key>SystemVersionStampAsString</key>
    <string>10.5.6</string>
    </dict>
    </plist>
Thirdly, running fix perms in Disk Utility did find altered permissions on several likely-looking files; the secure.log was group-readable and shouldn't have been, and several elements of /Library/Application Support/ were not group-readable and were supposed to be. Unfortunately, repairing these permissions did not make the problem go away.
I do have one final clue, though; on the first (successful) forced logout after rebooting, I noticed a launchd message in system.log:
    Jan 4 10:21:26 Schmoop-Box-3 com.apple.launchd[198] ([0x0-0x22022].com.yourcompany.starwars[231]): Exited: Killed
That's the successful one, mind you. So I'm wondering whether the first successful exit is taking down some launchd agent that helps with the forced logout process.
    Ah, speculation.
    Many thanks for your suggestions.

  • Adding existing mail account - Technical problem

    A bit of background...
I run my own mailserver (Exim 4) and wish to add my current email account to my blackberry service through T-Mobile in the UK ([email protected])
In order to do this I have to use T-Mobile's webpage to add the account details, however thsi si what is causing me the headache. After adding all the details the webpage runs a script to connect to my server in order to establish a trust relationship (so I am told by T-Mobile tech support) The page produces an error saying "An error occurred during email account verification. Please check your information and try again"
When checking the error logs on my server I see this:-
2008-04-18 15:13:40 SMTP protocol violation: synchronization error (input sent without waiting for greeting): rejected connection from H=mail.bis.eu.blackberry.com [216.9.253.4]
Basically from what I can tell script that runs the verification check does not wait for the usual greetings for each line of input from the server.
I have made the suggested changes to the exim.conf file (googled the error) but I am still having the same problem.
What I need to know is if anyone knows a way to add this account without using my providers webpage?
    Regards
    Jerry

Have you tried to add from your BB. Just go to SetUp Email on the menu screen on your BB and Click add Email Account. It might work that way.

  • Adding a mail account for second user

I am the administrator on this imac. I use mac mail and have a mobileme account as well. I have another user on the computer, who has just signed up for mobile me, and wants to retrive her mail from the imac when logged into her account. How do I set up mac mail on the imac, so the app in her doc only reflects her email account? If I add her mobileme address to accounts in mail preferences on the imac, her mail is showing up in my mail page? How can I get the mail app to launch in her account on the imac, and keep it separate from mine? Thanks.

As long as you are logged into her user account on the iMac, then creating accounts in the Mail app should only be her mail.
