Depends on what you want to do. If you are new to DAWs and just want to make simple songs without having to learn about the finer points of tracking & mixing, then Garageband is perfect. If you want to get serious about recording, engineering & mixing, then Logic Express & ultimately Logic Studio will be far more useful.

Any talented producers out there who use Logic Express?

I need tips, I decided out of thin air I'd like to become one and so I purchased the program, any additional programs / instruments you would suggest I purchase? Any good informational websites to help me through? What should my area of study be focused on right now?

FM has extensive tutorials on techniques for Logic, Cubase and Ableton Live in every issue. Not to mention reviews of new synths, plugins and other related products. I also find interviews with artists very inspiring.
As for instruments or programs it is basically up to you. It's your money, so you should decide based on information you get. That is because, for example, I may like one thing, but you will totally hate it, or vice versa. It's very subjective, like tastes in music. Anyways, it's very hard to recommend something today, unless you narrow down the scope and specify what your intentions are.

How do i find out who is using my airport express?

I have an airport express to extend my Wifi coverage and i am sure other people who have asked for the password in the past are still using it. Is there a way to see who is using it, when and block people? I could change the password, but I would like to find out first who is using it.

1) Open AirPort Utility
2) Hold down the option key on your Mac
3) Keep holding the option key while you double click on the AirPort Express icon in the center of the AirPort Utility window
4) Release the option key after you double click

I understand your reply. I think it is strange it is possible to get most presets already enabled when you use that Channel Strip 'insert' on the left, but not the "bus" settings. These bus settings do make the difference.
It is ok for me to do it manually. But I'm still curious wheter it is possible to do this automatically or not. It depens on some sounds, but a very good comparision is the Orchestra Fugue Organ from the Symphonic Orchestra Jampack. This sounds far better on Garageband compared to the default settings in Logic Express. I think most people will agree with me here.
Knows someone a trick to get 100% the same settings like in GB just by choosing this sound? Or do I indeed have to set up that manually (or is there another trick to make this an automatic process)
Another solution would still be starting my arrangment in GB...

Using Kontakt 4 as a plug-in, Logic Express sounds strange

I use Kontakt Player 4.1 as a standalone for GalaxyPianos and the sound is luscious and natural the keyboard plays like a Grand. When I use the same instance in Logic Express 9, it sounds cheap. The sound is flanged, it changes in quality from one note to the next. Not a huge amount mind you. Someone who was not a muso might say it sounds no different but it is very different.
I load everything as a standard, default new project with a software instrument, all default values. I have also tried loading mono, stereo, multi stereo etc and still it just doesn't sound right. What is produced by Kontakt as a standalone is way better than I am getting when it plays as a plug-in.
There are no load or latency issues but if I play a note the velocity seems noticeably lower in Logic than the stand alone. It almost sounds as though Logic is adding something to the sample.
Any ideas?

Aaaahhh, i see you have the same keyboard as I - the Roland RD700SX
make sure you have only 1 Layer button activated (let's say: upper 1). If you have selected all 4 layers, the RD700SX will output 4 notes at once (one for each active layer), and this may lead to crazy effects with Logic. So, press the "External" button on the RD700SX and de-activate "upper 2", "lower 1&2" or set them to different zones.
If you need the layers to trigger different instances of software instruments in Logic, make sure you have "auto demix by channel" activated in the logic MIDI recording preferences.

List used to add permissions to InfoPath form updated, but people removed from the list still getting permissions.

I have a list that gives users Contribute permission to an InfoPath form during a workflow action. This list has changed, and I have added and removed users from it. The people who I've added are getting permissions, but the people I removed are STILL getting
permissions, even though they are nowhere on the list. What could be happening? I would greatly appreciate any help!

I must not be explaining this very well, and I apologize for that.
These are time sheets we're working with, so each user needs a certain set of people to approve and review his/her time sheets. The workflow we have running on each time sheet created reads which department the user is in, matches them with the row that
contains the field "department" that matches their department, and gives permission to all of the users in the remaining fields TS Approvers and TS Reviewers. If I update these fields at all, the new users in these fields get permissions for that department's
time sheets, but the people I removed from these fields do not stop getting permissions. It's as if there is a cached copy of the list which is being used by the workflow to assign permissions. This list will fluctuate, so it is not a viable solution to keep
running powershell scripts to remove people from each of these items after they have been removed from the list.

Actually I have found a way for at least the instrument plug ins to be accessed.
I was able to set up an instance of Sculpture in MS2 and record it in LE using Soundflower.
Route the audio from MainStage to Logic and record onto an audio track in Logic as follows:
If not already installed, get SoundFlower. After installing it.
A) Setup the sound you want in MS2 and audio output to Soundflower (remember to Apply Changes or it does not hold).
B) In Logic Express set the audio input to Soundflower and create a new audio track for recording. Important: set Soundflower's audio output to however you listen to your audio or you won't hear anything.
C) Press RECORD and start playing, LE captures Mainstage's sound.
I have not tried to wire LE's output to MS2 to take advantage of Space Designer. but since this functions, I'm not sure why that couldn't work as well. It is still flipping though a few screens though...might just be easier to get Logic Pro from the App store....

Using Outboard Gear With M-Audio Fast Track Pro And Logic Express

My Fast Track Pro has 2 insert jacks on the back where you can run a send and return to use outboard gear. The cable you use has 2 female 1/4" jacks (one is send and the other is return) that go to a 1/4" male jack that you plug into the back of the interface.
My question is this:
How can I get Logic Express to send a track through the outboard gear connected to my interface? On the track's output settings in Logic there are "Output 1+2", which run to my monitors I think, and "Output 3+4", which don't have anything plugged into them. There don't appear to be any other options for sending the track. How can I get Logic to recognize the Inserts jack on the Fast Track Pro? I'm running all the latest drivers if that means anything. Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks for helping me on this. I'm still a bit confused on how to send the channel through the insert. The jacks on the back of my interface are "TRS Output 1+2" (my monitors are plugged into these outputs), a RCA "Output 1,2,3, and 4", an S/PDIF out and in, and then 2 TRS inserts jacks, marked 1 and 2. Each jack does it's own separate send and return which is why I had to buy the cable with the 2 female jacks on it.
I've been able to use the I/O plugin and get the track to accept a signal from the insert on input 1 (I have a looping pedal running in the send chain and was able to get it to play a loop over top of the audio already recorded on the channel), but am unable to send the recorded track through the fx send. What would I need to set the output to to be able to do this? Thanks for your time.

Poor performance on a Macbook using Logic Express 7.2

Hi there. I'm wondering if anyone else has run into performance issues with the new Core Duo macs running 7.2. I use my Macbook for live performance playing software synths. I only ever play on synth sound at a time, and my system performance meter (the audio meter) jumps up quite high when only playing one software instrument, no other tracks playing or recording. Some of the synths actually break up due to overload! I checked the Processor Activity Monitor in OS X and the processor never even reaches 100%, yet in Logic, it seems to be overloaded.
Another interesting thing is that some other universal binaries I've tried, the processor gauge in Activity Montior goes past 100% indicating that with two processors, you technically should be able to achieve 200% processor performance.
Before my MacBook, I used an ibook 800mhz (!!!) for my live performances, and it doesn't seem that I have much more ability using the Macbook!!
I reformated and reinstalled everything on the Macbook, and I didn't transfer any settings or files from my old iBook, but I still am not getting the performance I would expect out of Logic. Any ideas?!?!
Also, it seems that 7.2 has not fixed the processor leak on the Software Instruments... After playing and switching between several instruments, the audio performance meter keeps building until you restart Core Audio.

FWIW, Not Ignorance. Simply put, Your buffer size is the number of samples between Logic and the audio hardware. A high buffer setting will give you high latency (unusable for softsynths), a lower setting will give you less latency. Less latency also means that you wil give the computer less time to calculate the data. Most people will set this as low as possible while recording and editing and often increase the buffer size at the mixdown stage. You can set this in audio hardware and drivers (in the audio menu and in audio prefs). Hopefully that reduces problems.

I got my problem solved but I'm not sure what solved it. I DFU mode my iPhone and then restarted it, the other person only restarted it and now we can iMessage normally. Recently I had the same issue with a new contact but the next day got solved but I didn't do anything.
I hope this gives you some answers insetad of more questions =S...

Using Logic Express 9.1.8 - Upgraded to Mavericks and now can't open Logic Express. Why please?

As soon as I try and open the LE application the icon starts bouncing up and down in the bottom tray and that's it. There is no more. I have to right click and force quit.
Became fed up and dragged it to the trash with the intention of reinstalling form original Logic Expres 9.0.0 disc. Couldn't install though as the installer crashes.
Don't know if this because of the "upgrade" to Mavericks but it a real coincidence.

Well, the first thing I would have done is launch Disk Utility and run Repair Disk Permissions. It sounds like your problem may have been a permissions error and this may have resolved it. If that didn't help I would have next gone to my user>Libary>Preferences folder and deleted "com.apple.logic.express.plist."
Next step would have been to reboot the computer in Safe Mode or create a new user account to see if LE9 would launch.
Even though you trashed LE9 I would still suggest repairing permissions at this point. Also, do a Spotlight search for Logic Express to find any remaining LE files that you might want to delete . . . primarily preference files like the .plist mentioned above. Now restart your computer and try running the installer again.
Just an FYI, LE9 will indeed work in Mavericks. I used it briefly until I decided to get rid of Mavericks and go back to 10.8.5.

Can I use MainStage 2 with Logic Express 9.1.6

Is it possible to use MainStage 2 with Logic Express 9.1.6.? Are there any limitations to not having Logic Pro 9. I'm very happy with LE9.1.6. as it meets all my needs (perhaps with the exception of not having Space Designer) but if I need to upgrade to get the most out of MainStage 2 then I will.
