Do people with separate accounts see the same pictures

If you have different user accounts set up on the same machine will each person see the same iPhoto library, or will I have to share the library on one account for the others to see it?

The whole point of using separate accounts to is keep everyone's data separate from everyone else's. So, each user account has it's own iPhoto Library. So, yes, if you want other users to see your Library you will need to share it with them.

What do I do to REMOVE an old AIM account and replace it with a new account in IChat?
Can two peeps use iChat with different accounts in the same computer?
(Actually, two people share a laptop, but one of us cannot use her AIM account cuz mine is in iChat already... And, when traveling, I have the computer - and I would like to use iChat on the computer...)

In iChat 4 you can have more than one AIM Valid name logged in at once.
AIM valid = AIM, @mac.com or a MobileMe name.
What you are then stuck with is that iChat is linked to one Buddy Picture and The one Mac User Account's Address Book which may or may not have Full Names, emails details, or a Nickname in iChat 4 linked to the Screen Names.
Whilst it does let you both log in whilst using one Mac User Account there are drawbacks about who uses the keyboard and reading meesages from the other persons Buddies.

  • How can I share the home folder with different accounts on the same mac?

    Hi, here's a question:
How can I share the home folder with different accounts on the same mac?
The whole point being not to have to install all my apps, and move all my files each time between users.
The second thing would be to be able to modify one document on one account, and have it changed on the other account without having to copy it.
I would like to have a pro and a private account on my mac.
    Thanks for you answers,
    Doug

Your apps should not be installed in your home folder--they should be in /Applications where every user can access them.
If you want to share things between users on the same Mac, use the /Users/Shared folder. Keep your home folder private. Trying to defeat the protections on the home folder subfolders just gets messy. I've never bothered to figure out all of the problems associated with it so I can't explain how to do it.
Even with using Shared, you would need to alter the ACLs on the shared folder in order to allow both users to modify the documents.
You must create a Group in Users & Groups and put each user in that group. Then create a folder inside /Users/Shared where you want to share the various files.
Then, add an ACL to the shared folder that gives the group special permissions. on that folder.
    sudo chmod -R +a "<sharinggroup> allow delete,chown,list,search,add_file,add_subdirectory,delete_child,file_inherit,directory_inherit" /Users/Shared/<sharing folder>
Replace <sharinggroup> and <sharingfolder> with the name of your group and your folder. Then, run the command in the Terminal.
With that ACL, each user in <sharinggroup> will be able to alter the files created by any user in the group in that <sharingfolder>.
Essentially, the client OS is not designed for true file sharing among the individual users. It is designed to isolate each user account from the others.

    Hi dprette,
When setting up iTunes to share a single music library between multiple user accounts on one computer you should follow the steps in this article -

  • Share an itunes between two separate accounts on the same macbook pro

My Partner and I share a macbook pro - we both have indidiual accounts.
Our itunes music is all showing on the iTunes in his account.
However, I log him out and then log into mine the iTunes is empty....
Is there a way that we can share the iTunes and the music purchased between our two accounts on our macbook without having to buy all the music again??
I am not very switched on with the syncing business and the only way I can see around it is to put all the music on a hard drive and then transfer it back onto my iTunes accounts - but I would consider that that method is a little outdated now?

To give other users read-only access to your library, use the Sharing features of iTunes. Sharing works over the local network as well as on the same computer. See the built-in help for details.
If you want to give full read/write access to more than one user, see the support article linked below.

  • Separate accounts under the same name?

I have two separately billed Verizon Wireless accounts in my name and I am wondering just how closely they are linked.  I'm on one account by myself and my stepson and his former girlfriend are on the other account with Edge installment plans.  I think the girlfriend is going to stop paying which would make her Edge balance due immediately.  If she does, it would take us an extra month or two to pay off the large Edge balance... especially if she bails with the phone!  I'm wondering if that would that result in my stepson's phone line being terminated and more importantly, would it result in my separately billed non-Edge account being terminated?  Any input would be appreciated.  And yes, I know it's a bad idea to open accounts for other people so you can skip those comments please.

        mdhhokie08,
This is a sticky predicament that is being thrown your way! Yikes! Should the line in question cancel its service with us, then yes, the Edge installments would be billed all at once on the following statement. Should the account not be able to make the full payment by the due date, then you can work with our Financial Services team at 866-266-1445. They will work to make payment arrangements that will allow the other line, your son's line to stay active. Should no payment at all be made on the account in question, then the possibility of his line being affected is pretty high. For your paricular account, the seperate account, it is possible that in the long run any negative payment history on your son's account will impact yours since it seems that they are both under your name and SSN. If she were to keep her line active, your son can continue to make payments on the Edge installment. (Perhaps she will not take off with the phone?) • 2 Separate accounts in the same household

Hi there, I just have a couple of questions that I wonder if anyone can help me with
Basically, I live at home with my parents (who don't use the internet) and so they want nothing to do with any broadband or bills for the internet and such, I've just taken out a new contract for broadband and phone at this address (because BT don't do broadband ONLY deals)
What I'm wondering is, because I'm paying for both a phone and broadband deal, and my parents have their own phone contract, are we both paying for line rental for no reason? and do you think that any resources either my parents or I use, will be reflected on the other's bill? (I don't want to pay for their phone use, and they don't want to pay for my broadband)
If so, is there a way to cancel their phone contract and just have mine as the household phone deal or is there a seperate account and my broadband package is completely seperate from everything (making paying 2 line rentals pointless)
If anybody can help me with this, I'd be hugely greatful
    Thanks for reading
    Ryan
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You will have 2 individual accounts one in your name and one in the name of one of your parents. As you have 2 lines your will each be paying line rental
You have a package which includes broadband and phone and your parents just a phone contract. Your pRents could terminate their phone contract but if in 12 month contract then there will be cancellation fees just the same for you if you cancelled just your fees will be higher as it includes broadband
Each of you will pay their respective bills without any crossover

  • How two Macs with FCP can see the same F/w drive.

    Hi there,
Does anyone know of a way I can have a PowerBook
and a PowerMac Dual both have access to the same Firewire
drive? _ Doesn't have to be at the same time..
    "what the h%*# for ?"
The P/b is an older/slower CPU and takes over three times
longer to render (i.e. 36 hours instead of 10 on my quicksilver) so if I can edit on the P/b while the P/m is rendering the big stuff, I won't have so much downtime.. (trying to avoid the constant copy back and forth sinario)..
    Thanks much,
    Nick(alf)...

    Please DON't Kill me - I only asked... (-:
But we got too far off topic (shame on me) so thanks for getting us back.
you can move the drive back and forth between the two
computers. You just can't have both of the them access the
    drive at the same time.
The way I'm currently doing it - I have the 2 F/w drives connected to both Macs and I either power up only one at a time or mount/dismount/swap cables as needed. I was hoping there would be a way it could be done - NOT to write to the same files at the same time, that's a given, but to be able to continue working on another project, or part of the same project, while the Q/s (which is dual and much faster than the P/b) is rendering..
    Thanks,
    Nick. . .

  • Can I configure a wireless home network with two cable routers (both with separate connections to the same cable company)?  Issue is poor signal strength even with multiple Airport Expresses added to the network.

I have a wireless home network consisting of a time capsule, two airport expresses and a cable modem.  Even with this configuration I get a very weak signal in much of be condo - the walls, etc. are solid concrete. I want to see if I can add another separately connected cable modem and connect one of the existing airport express to it by Ethernet cable.  If so, this would give me two wired hubs and greatly improve signal strength. I do not know if this configuration will in fact work or if I will just wind up with two, separate and unrelateable networks.  Unfortunately, there is no way to run any additional Ethernet cable and I doubt simply adding more Airport Express will help. Thanks.

Try Ethernet over Power adapters.. these are very popular for your kind of environment.. being able to make non-wireless link to another area where you can setup a wireless access point.
Airport Express are not great for wireless power.. if you really have issues with wireless strength in a bad environment apple stuff is not the way to go.
    The comparison chart here.
    http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/lanwan/router-charts/bar/58-2_4-ghz-dn?see=P_F
This is their worst test location you can also see averages.. the latest airport extreme.. is there a long way down.. and that is a much better wireless device than Airport Express.
The Ubiquiti power AP is small cheap and designed for precisely this duty.. useless in an apple wireless network.. you will need to run ethernet or EOP adapters back to the main router.. but if the normal omni directional antennas don't provide enough signal you can get directional ones.. I suspect you can cover your whole apartment with a pair of these and high gain directional antenna.

  • Can my boyfriend have a different account on the same ipad

How can me and my boyfriend use but have our own separate accounts on the same ipad ?

    leemudd83 wrote:
you can go into settings> itunes and app store and sign in and out of different apple ids there
I strongly suggest not doing this.  This can lead to a 90 day disabling of one account if you download past purchases with another. So this is not a good thing to be doing.
For anything else you can sign in & out, but its still not very practical.  iOs was just not designed as a multiuser device.

  • Trying to homeshare using two accounts on the same Mac

My partner and I both have our own accounts on the same MacBook with separate iTunes accounts. We are trying to homeshare so that we can share our music. We have both logged into the same homeshare account and authorised both itunes accounts on both iTunes. Neither iTunes shows the Homeshare option on the left hand menu so we are still unable to view each other's libraries or share music. Can anyone advise what to do next? I have searched the apple support site and googled but can't find anything to help. Is the problem that we are both using separate accounts on the same macbook rather than two separate devices?
    Thanks!

You need two computers to enable homesharing to work.
