Hello. I have subscribed to several podcasts under iTunes. Would the ones with visual footage take up space under Movie in my About this Mac/Storage?

The amount of data you can store on your iPod depends on the iPod's capacity so storing photos takes up available capacity or storage space for music.

Movie files take up more space than they should

Hi! I'm new to iDVD, and I wanted to take about 20 .mp4 files and put them on a DVD that a DVD player hooked to my TV will be able to read. The combined size of all the files is under 4GB and will fit on a burnable DVD. But when I drag them into iDVD, it only lets me have like 5 before it says it is full. Why is this happening? Why should the video take up more space than the file's actual size? If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it!

iDVD works on time and NOT on RAW file size!!
All video is converted to MPG-2 by the encoding process in iDVD. With a single layer disc, you can get UP TO 60 minutes of content in Best Performance mode and UP TO 120 minutes in Best Quality mode.

Why does 14MB movie take 800MB of space on iPhone

I noticed that when I select or deselect adding a 14MB video, the amount of free space changes by about 800MB. No more things are selected (apps, music, photos, etc.), just this one video. Here's a photo to prove it: http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/1074/w8ul.jpg

No, it's a 14MB .mp4 file.
Also, I just remembered that the same thing happened when I selected "replace contacts with contacts from the computer", the change was about 500MB...
BTW, I'm using Mac OS X Mavericks.

How many times can a podcast be heard /$$ .imac space

I understand how many times a podcast can be heard ( based on the size of the podcast ) per unit of space I buy but imac doesn't tell you how much it costs to buy extra units if you want to upgrade to more storage space, ~~ without giving your credit card number first and purchasing the original storage space for $99.
I can't really figure out if it is worth purchasing the space. my first podcast is 67 MB right now with one GB of storage / transfer units, that podcast can only be heard one time.
so I have garage band and can make podcasts but don't have the information I need to move forward to publish my podcast.

I believe your talking about .Mac account that has I think 10Gb of storage. 10 gigs is a lot of podcast nothing to worry about for a few years. As for how much monthly bandwidth you get I don't know but you probably would have to be in the thousands of downloads a month before you come up to any restrictions.

Seems very long time.
When my Mac starts to get into a slow-motion in action eg encoding DVDs or alike - it's nearly always due to that free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk is to low.
• I try to never have less than 25Gb free space
• 10Gb - might work but slows down
• 5Gb - slow and instable
• less - incredibly slow, instable and if DVD is produced - it usually doesn't work
This space can not be utilized on other hard disks - Neither for Mac OS or iMovie or iDVDs temp. files - Has to be stored here. No-where else.

"Manually manage music and videos" takes up more space than syncing?

Hello all,
I fear that I am just stupid and unseeing an obvious answer to this query, but ask I shall, because it is frustrating me to no end.
I recently downloaded a few audiobooks from my local library to listen to on my iPod Touch; the app in question requires that you "manually manage music and videos" rather than syncing. Fine.
I switch over to iTunes, check the box, and now my music--without changing anything, mind--is now taking up an additional 1.8 (or more) gigs on my iPod. I toggle the option to "manually manage" on and off, and with it "on", my music takes up more space than with it "off", even though it's the same music, same podcasts.
Can someone please explain to me why syncing manually takes up more space than syncing automatically and where the extra gigs are coming from? There's not that much audio on my iPod--1.52 gb of music, 1.97 gb of podcasts and .69 gb of apps--which only adds up to 4.18 gb, and on an 8g touch, should leave me with about 4 gb of "wiggle room", so to speak, rather than .27 gb.

iTunes will normally put just one copy of each file on the iPod and link it to multiple playlists. If your iPod's database has been corrupted at some point however, there may be unattached copies of your meadia from earlier sync attempts, taking up space on the drive, but not visible in the library. How much space does iTunes report for Other? Excluding files placed manually & intentionally on the iPod, "other" is typically an overhead of 1%-2% of the size of the media and represents the iPod database, artwork, games etc. If you have significantly larger amounts of "other" then you will need to restore your iPod in order to reclaim the space.

Does using GPRMs / scripts / stories take up much space??
I ask this because a dvd I must complete tonight appears [on the disc meter in DVDSP] to take up 6.0 GB when the combined assets equal 3.85 GB AND NONE have been doubled up.
I have stories that reuse the same main movie, a fair number of menus [without using DVDSP alpha transitions], scripts that point to loop points in menus, and a scripting combination that randomly plays 13 audio tracks with 300kB graphics for the video track.
Anyone??? Please!

I may have found where the size descrepency originates.
The size of this project is associated with 13 menus.
Each of these menus has a still as the video asset and an audio track [ranging from 2 mins 30 duration to 8 mins with most at 3 mins 30 secs].
Each menu has the same button structure, with three buttons.
Button 1 points to a script that randomly plays each audio track once before returning to a main menu.
Button 2 points to the main menu.
Button 3 points to a Story which plays 1 chapter of video from the master asset [2.3 GB] then returns to the same menu. The master video has not been duplicated at all to do this, the story just points to the asset and then jumps back...
THE CRUX OF THIS ISSUE IS that if I delete 1 or two of any combination of these two buttons, nothing really happens regarding a drop in file size in the Inspector or Disk Space Meter, BUT if I delete all three buttons, the file size drops from 448.3 MB to 12 MB, taking the Disk Meter from 5.5 GB to 5.0 GB!!!!
This is obviously where my problem lies.
ANYONE OUT THERE that can help it would be SOOOO GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!

HMM.. here's a thought.... The Story that points to and plays 1 chapter of my main video before returning to the same menu would possibly be the same file size if exported and encoded separately.... Perhaps I have missed something with the Story navigation.....Unlikely though as is pretty straight forward [with the help of the manual of course].

Move space to Date & Numc type fields

Hi Experts,
I have data declaration like this.
data :
char1(10) type c,
dat1 type dats,
num1 type numc.
Now i want to move spaces to all of them based on certain conditions. So i use
move : space to char1,
space to dat1,
space to num1.
for char1 it displays empty but for dat1 it shows - - or / /
and for num1 it shows 000 (depending on length of field).
Now how do i fully clear the char1 and num1 field as well?

Those are the data of the installed apps. Don't listen if someone says that it's an iOS, because it is not. On your iPhone, go to general > usage. It will show you all the programs installed on your iPhone. If you click any of them you will see how much of "others" it has (documents and data)
There's no way to delete it if you want to still have those apps. You can reinstal those which has the most "others" but after some time of usage, it will raise again.

How to take the movies off of iPhoto and move them to my external hard drive

My hard drive in the computer is dying. I am using time machine to back up everything to my external hard drive. However, I am not sure it will take the movies from my iphoto.
1. When I try and export my movies from Iphoto to my external hard drive it only allows me to export as jpeg not .mov
2. When i just drag them the whole movies is not there.
I really need help to do this asap as my computer keeps freezing and clicking now more often.

To export a movie you must export it as kind is original otherwise you get the single frame JPEG preview
and you should backup the entire iphoto library by dragging it intact as a single entity to a hard drive formatted Mac OS extended (journaled)

Your phone needs more storage, buying storage on iCloud.com doesn't change that.
Delete some of the stuff off of your phone, it's full.

Is music in multiple user account supposed to take up more space?

I have two user accounts on my computer and I transferred all of my iTunes music to the second one so it could be accessible from both. But when I did it the memory space on my computer went down. Is this supposed to take up more space?

It will do because you have copied the folder to the other account thus doubling the amount of space your music files occupy; you have 2 copies of each song.

Bookmark toolbar takes too muck space

Main Toolbar is disabled
Bookmark toolbar contains a few folders and located at the top row along with the navigation buttons and page tabs.
The problem is bookmark panel takes too much space (it is too width) - lots of free space is unused.

It never occurred to me to put the bookmarks on the tab bar. They don't seem to auto-size correctly there. (On other bars, you can re-fit the bookmarks using: View > Toolbars > Customize ''or'' right-click blank area of tab bar or navigation toolbar > Customize, then just clicking Done.)
There are some methods for applying style rules to the Firefox UI that might help in this case. For example, you might be able to specify a maximum width for the bookmarks part of the bar. For example:

To apply such a rule, you can use the Stylish extension or the userChrome.css file (as described in other threads, but I'm short of time to search them up at the moment).

I restored the boot disk (Macintosh HD) from TM's last backup.
The first new backup takes too much space on your external drive!

I'm not sure that the drive for 1 year of operation is out of order. During the day the computer works fine, but every morning after wake up,
when disc is cold ,
and after 2 - 3 minutes go to freezing all apps. It seems that does not see the HDD.
After a forced shutdown and restart the system sometimes can boot normally and without error in the file system, but often does not load.
After several attempts to boot the system it is still loaded, but disk utility shows :
