In my experience I've found that when I don't do the reset before and after I invariably have problems. For example when I updated my N97 to the v22 firmware the auto-rotate function stopped working properly.
I actually also remove all apps and format the mass storage prior to the firmware update which ends up taking a ridiculously long time with the reloading of my media and maps but I now realize that I'll end up having to do it anyway so I might as well do it properly the first time.
It could just be the N97 as it's such a hunk of junk but I think it's more likely that it's an issue with the update process in S^1.

Try to backup and restore you device in itunes...restoring the device is like removing the iOS software off the device and re-add in a newer software, after you have restore you device, MAKE SURE YOU SET UP YOUR DEVICE LIKE A NEW DEVICE, DONT NOT RESTORE FROM BACKUP!!... give the device a chance to use the newer software and see if the issue still persisting, if the issue still on going then its would be a hardware issue.
Call Apple Care and see if your device is still under warranty to get it replace

  • Hello, i really need help. I had just updated my iphone 3gs to 6.0.1, and after I updated, it won't activate.

Hello, i really need help. I had just updated my iphone 3gs to i.o.s. 6.0.1, and after I updated, it won't activate.I tried it in itunes and it always says " We cannot activate your iphone at this time..." and when I activate using Wi-Fi, it says, "Your iPhone cannot be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable." I could swear that my Wi-Fi is fine, and my Itunes is on the latest version.  Is this a bad thing or does this normally occurs? Can I still fix this ? I'm so desperate to use my iphone cause I use it everyday for personal purposes. I sure would appreciate any tip or help . PLSSSS ! Thank you for that wonderful being that can help.

Do not take it to a third party repair shop - downgrading causes problems and voids your warranty.
I had to unlock it so that i could really use it as a phone.
And that is the root of the problem. Unless you had your carrier unlock it, it was hacked and cannot be legitimately activated. Even if you don't care about warranty or problems, downgrading simply will not help an activation issue.

do i need a new charge adapter after updating my i phone 3.

What do you mean by "updating"?  If you mean "updating the software", the answer is no.  If you mean buying a newer iPhone, the answer dpends upon which newer model you bought.

  • Why does airport extreme need hard reset after power outage

Airport extreme is unresponsive after interruptions in power and requires a hard reset to get working again.  It will also freeze during heavy usage from multiple computers and then a hard reset is necessary to get it working again.  It is becoming a chore.

The obvious answer is that if you are using firmware 7.5.2, downgrade to 7.4.2.
Otherwise if you can simulate a power fail by pulling the plug and still have the problem then
If you are still under warranty, take it back...

  • Why does my iPhone need every time to be hard-reset after charging?

Every time I fully charge my iPhone 6 Plus it turns off and doesn't want to turn on normally: I have to reset it every time by pressing the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button for a couple of seconds.
Also, sometimes after leaving it in sleep mode, when I wake the iPhone I find it having restarted alone without me doing anything: it asks me to type again the PIN number of my SIM card, as if it had just been turned on.
    What can I do?
is it a battery or a iOs issue?

I think you need to talk to App tech. If you were sent a forced upgrade, it forces the phone to reboot when it hits 100% charge. Problem is after update and/or restore, it continues to do the reboot after you hit 100% battery capacity.
I have 6 phones that do the same. The tech guys don't believe me or they do not want to admit they have a problem with the forced update.
It left me stranded without my phone and the data in it while I was away. Bought a android phone for a back-up but may keep it as a main.
It seems if you want to carry your phone now-a-days, you better carry a laptop with iTunes in case there is a issue.
This whole thing is getting out-of-control as I spend more time servicing my phone than it spends servicing me. Which was the reason for not connecting to iTunes and updating it and then my phone every other month. So what do I get, forced update and inoperable phones.
If you can get it connected and set again, don't let it charge to 100% again and it will be fine. Otherwise see apple.
Who owns these phones anyway? It certainly is not me.

  • IPod cycles hard reset after Texas Hold'em install

I'll send the message to Apple and call as well tomorrow, but thought I would throw this out there to see if anyone has advice - and also as a cautionary note.
I downloaded Texas Hold'em tonight to install onto my 5G Video iPod. I'm running iTunes 7.0.1 (7) and have the latest updater installed.
After playing the game for about ten minutes, my iPod froze. Not such a big deal, I thought. I performed a hard reset and figured it would take care of itself.
Unfortunately, my iPod now cycles through hard resets on its own every 5 seconds or so. The Apple logo appears on the screen, the hard drive spins up, then the iPod immediately shuts down again and restarts, ad infinitum.
I'll reformat it using iTunes, but you can see the problem here - that requires getting the iPod to successfully restart itself. I went through the iPod diagnostics and everything seems to check out okay. I put it in hard disk mode (something I've never done with this particular iPod). I get a black and white graphic of the lightning bolt (don't know if that's normal or not) but the computer will not find the drive when connected.
Wondering if anyone knows of any third party software that might be able to help get the iPod to mount in external HD mode. I just need to get it mounted somehow so that I can reformat it.
    Thoughts?

  • IPod requires hard reset after playing podcast with chapters

I've noticed that I need to do a hard reset (hold down menu and select buttons for a few seconds) after my iPod goes idle after playing a podcast with chapters (the Ricky Gervais show).
    Anyone else have this problem?

Can reproduce the problem on a 20GB 4G and 6GB mini
with another podcast series with chapters
(fortunately not many I listen to have caught up with
    chaptering).
The odd behaviour I've noticed is that the Ricky
Gervais podcast, for example, only has to be present
on the iPod and never listened to for the iPod/s to
lock up when they go to sleep. A hard reset then
required to bring them back to life until the podcast
has been listened to and the iPod/s then resync'ed
with the mothership to then remove it (and restore
some sanity until the next one).
I did conduct a hard restart of my 10GB iPod with no success. The only workaround solution I've discovered is to use the "Convert Selection to AAC" under the Advance menu in iTunes while selecting the podcast. It converts the podcast to a new AAC file without chapters, and it plays fine on my second gen iPod. But now my library has 2 copies of each podcast, one for iTunes, one for iPod. Anyone else have any luck with the 10GB iPod? I guess it doesn't like the new podcasts with chapters.

  • 5800XM - hard reset after upgrade ?

hi all ! I just want to ask. my friends told me to hard reset my Tube and re-formated my memory card after I upgrade the firmware. is it true ? they said its a must (lot of explanation why, can't write it all). but i don't had trouble without hard reset my phone. I've had my Tube upgraded to FW21 from FW20. Anyone ?

Your friend is over-reacting a bit.
Basically, some people might have to do a hard reset if they have problems after the update, but most people probably won't have problems.
I covered this in a 5800 firmware tutorial I did for AAS, I hope it's okay to link to it:
    http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/features/item/How_to_update_the_firmware_on_the_Nokia_5800_XpressMusi...
    Basically:
1.If the OTA firmware update works without a hitch, you don't need to do anything
    2. If there's a problem after the update, try a settings reset using the code*#7780# and then lock code (which is 12345 by default)
    3. If there's still a problem, try a firmware update through the PC application (ie wipe the phone).
    4. If there's STILL a problem, contact Nokia's support services (go to nokia.com/support and select your country or region)

  • Need instructions on hard reset of HP officejet pro 8600

    Hi jason_h ,
Please message me with the info about how to do a hard reset on my Officejet pro 8600.  Thank you!

    Hello jnycsh,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I see that you are trying to reach out to @jason_hto learn about a hard reset for the Officejet 8600. To my knowledge, a hard reset consists of removing the power cord for the printer (while on), ensuring the power is connected to a wal outlet directly and after one minute connecting the power back to the printer.
If you are looking for a reset, please let me know the issue the printer is having and what troubleshooting steps you have done to try and resolve it.

  • E7 Hard reset after effects

    Hi,
I installed Anti Virus software "NetQin" and after installation I restart my mobile phone but it could not restart and displayed a message "Cannot restart, contact retailer". After many tries when I failed to restart my phone (E7 : OS-Belle), I did hard reset. After hard reset I lost Photo and Video editors, ovi store client etc. I reinstalled the softrware 3-4 times but these apps are still missing. Can some one give correct way to solve this issue?

Even the Maps functioning might have been affected .. The ONLY solution is to get the Firmware flashed at Nokia Care

  • N85 will not hard reset after V30 firmware update.

I just got my new Black N85, this is my second one I also have a copper one but it is only at version 20 firmware and when I did a update to version 30 firmware, I could not do a hard reset doing the *#7370# or the three finger reset, all it did after I put in security code is reboot and go back to the home screen, no reset at all. Here we go again with Nokia and their messing with the people that make them the million's that they have. I am getting so SICK of Nokia and their Garbage!!!!

i think you are genuinely confused as to what a hard reset is, Grschinon is indeed correct. i am sure that you can perform this on your phone so try this:
with the phone turned off, press and hold the green call key, * key and the 3 key all at the same time. while holding all of these down, press and hold the power button down until the Nokia hands logo is displayed on the phone. there should now be the country selection/date and time selection screen displayed. if that does not work, then instead of pressing the 3 key, substitute this for the multimedia key (small silver key). if those still do not work, then your best bet is to take your phone to your local Nokia Care Centre for them to take a look at.
please throw some kudos our way, it would mean a lot to us
If you found this or someone's comments helpful or like what that person has to say, please give some Kudos to their post!

  • Definition of soft hard resets please .

Some confusion of late and as i am only a newbie to smartphones  it would help if the matter was cleared up mas i may have been given wrong advice ..
Below is the first post i came across on the subject and the rules i have therefore followed .
Is it right or wrong . I have already proven on my phone 7370  reverts to factory settings and wipes all data as does three fingered salute  likewise 7780 just reverted settings  with no data loss .
    Original post below .
With all these operations I recommend you TAKE OUT MEMORY CARD and DO A BACK UP OF YOUR STUFF!!!
NOTE: In front of the hash key ( #) there is also a STAR key that people often miss and state that the code does not work.
1.. *#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default ( you will not lose any data) Make sure you back up your data as you will lose all of it when you perform option 2 or 3 on this list. The default code for ALL operations listed here is 12345.
2.*#7370# - Reformat your phone (out of the box, tho keep in mind that most newer nokia phones at least n series, e series and s60 based phones have udp - user data preservation so not ALL data may be lost. still it is a good idea to always do a back up of your stuff.)3. This you perform as a last resort. Nothing else is working. If the phone is not showing any activity, proceed with hard formatting , turn off your phone, hold the following buttons while pressing the power button. (the default code is 12345)
    3. hard reset - hold the following buttons * (star key), 3 (number button) and talk/green key. turn on the phone and do not release those buttons until you see the Nokia boot up screen. once you feel the phone power up you can let go off the power button while still holding all three buttons ( for Nokia 5800XM - use the following buttons to do a hard reset, /GREEN/RED/CAMERA keys pressed all at once on power up. this will only work on 5800's that have firmware version 20... and up. ) For Nokia N97 (unofficial version but works) is SHIFT /SPACE BAR / BACKSPACE while holding the power button. Again do not let go until you see the handshake screen.

Thanks for the useful definitions! Could you please tell me what the difference is between the hard reset and reformat?
the difference between hard and soft reset is that hard reset can be perfomed even when your phone is "dead".
Factory settings reset. Type *#7780# and the phone's lock code (Nokia's default lock code is 12345). This reset restores the phone's original settings.
Soft reset. Type *#7370# and the phone's lock code.
Warning!Soft reset deletes all the phone's data (C drive).
Hard reset. Switch the phone off. Press and hold three keys together, the green key, the * key and the number '3'. While you are holding these keys, switch the phone on. Don't release these three keys before you see the Nokia hands logo.
Warning! Hard reset (as soft reset) wipes the C (phone memory) drive.
Hard reset for N97; Press shift + space + delete and turn the phone on at the same time. Don't let the three keys before you see the Nokia logo(or the country selection screen)
Hard reset for 5800; Press green + red + multimedia button and turn the phone on
If you want to thank someone, just click on the blue star at the bottom of their post
