Do .RPT files tend to corrupt after a certain size+how large is too large?

I have a user that is using Crystal Reports 10 locally and is accessing an .rpt report file over a network.  He has always been able to access the file.  When we inspected the file size it is now showing 0 bytes and when he tries to access the file the gets an error-
"An attempt was made to access
....\filename.rpt past its end."
This error is displayed in a Crystal Reports dialogue box.
We recovered an older version of the same file and it works without issues.  The file is around 40mb in size which seems to be quite large for this type of file (at least according to some resources I have seen online)
I am thinking this is a corruption situation, similar to how .psts personal folder files act in Outlook.
Confirmation on this anyone?

No, 40 meg is not that large. It's likely a file system issue or network timeout or something of that type.

    Why does iTunes freeze up for minutes at a time when modifying INFO (CMD-i) ?  My files are not corrupted after it is done like many other threads i have readed.  Sometimes it's changing the title of a movie or editing the season and episode number of a TV show ect.....

    Yup same here
    I am running the latest iTunes, the latest updates to the OS and on an iMac 3.4GHz Quad core i7 with 8GB of RAM and the music stored on local HDD.
    Still locks up iTunes for between 2 minutes up to 20 minutes.
    Really annoying.

  • Encoding file size for standard DVD too large - please advise

    Hi - I shot an 6-hour training session that went well.  I shot it at 1280 x 720.  For the web version it will be no problem, as I'll just export to F4V.
    But i'm having a difficult time figuring out the export settings for the DVD.  I know that the disk is limited to 4.6 GB.  I broke up the sequences in PPro CS4 to about 30 minutes or so (some are smaller or larger than others).
    I first exported to QT but found that a 30-minute export way too large (8 GB) and Encore brought it down to 2 GB but that that will still only allow me to put 60-minutes on one DVD vs. the almost 2 hours I want to get on 1 disk.
    AVI is even worst.
    I know that widescreen is a larger size so I'm willing to make it standard NTSC but I just cannot figure out which export setting in PPro CS4 to use to make this work.
    Can someone advise me on this?
    Thank you.

    >exported a 36-minute video in QT. It's 8 GB in size. I imported it into Encore, which encoded it down to 2.5 GB
    I don't use QT at all (Quicktime is not even installed on my computer) instead using DV AVI to go from AVCHD to Encore to create a DVD http://forums.adobe.com/thread/652694?tstart=0
    But, as you found, Encore encodes your "raw" input file into a "finished" DVD file which is much smaller due to how MPEG/VOB is structured
    I once put 2.5 hours on a single side DVD... but that was a slideshow w/music to be a background at a party, so there was NO motion at all for the encoding process to have to adjust for to produce a good image
    A fast moving video (soccer game) is going to require a lot more DVD space to produce an image that is not blurred due to the speed of movement
    For a training session with (I presume) low speed movement, simply export your project in 2 hour sections and have Encore do automatic encoding to create the best fit on the disc
    Note that automatic encoding is only (as far as I know) for video that you have not already compressed by using the Mpeg-Dvd output setting
    Experiment to find out what works the best for you

  • Inbox get corrupted after 3 GB size

    Like outlook if Inbox size is greater than 3.X Gb and not supported by Thunderbird now, then Fresh Inbox should be created
    and mails must get downloaded into that, can it is possible
    OR
    Can we get popping message that the Inbox size or any mail folder / mailbox size is reaching to max allowed size so as to take necessary action by user
    Actually all the options like Filters, Folders, junk mail deletion, Compacting is tried by us but all are manual type and no surety that end user will maintain it every time as Each Local folder has 4GB limitation also,
    When the User is on tour or not accessible this problem of Inbox Full become more severe , so need above stated solutions for it.
    I hope friends who reply may consider my helpnessness

    The best method is to use the Inbox as an Inbox for incoming messages and not as a general storage.
    The Inbox folder as shown in the Folder Pane, is in reality, an mbox file.
    Emails are downloaded and written to that one file, one email after the other.
    So currently you have 'all your eggs in one basket', to quote a phrase. All your emails are in a single document.
    I suggest you create folders and organise your emails by moving them into suitably named folders. eg: Family, Friends, Bills, Online Orders, Thunderbird etc.
    Delete any emails you do not want.
    Empty the 'Junk' and 'deleted/Trash' folder.
    Right click on folder and select eg: 'Empty Junk'
    Also check the 'Sent' folder as this can also get quite large.
    Deleting anything you do not want to keep.
    Then compact all folders to remove the hidden 'marked as deleted' emails.
    * File > Compact folders.
    It is also a good idea to Archive all older emails, say anything older than a couple of months.
    To do this, set up your Archive Options to store by monthly (If you send and receive several emails each day). Select to keep folder structure. Then Archive emails including the Sent folder.
    Info on 'Archive Options' here:
    * https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/archived-messages
    This will reduce the size of your folders and make it less risky.
    Additional good helpful info:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Keep_it_working_-_Thunderbird
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Compacting_folders
    I use an addon to help me know how big folders are getting.
    * https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/thunderbird/addon/extra-folder-columns/
    I have only the 'Size' column displayed, but it also offers Total emails (also useful) and Unread.
    see image below as example.

  • Cannot open Catalyst (FXP) files when the project reaches a certain size!

    Hi,
    I am a UI designer working for Playstation and have recently downloaded the trial of Flash Catalyst in order to test the validity of using it for game UI prototyping. This has worked well for me up until a week ago when I attempted to open the project file I had been working on and it simply does not open - no error message or anything, it just sits on the progress screen and never manages to open the file! I have left this for many hours in the hope that it might open and have tried multiple times to no avail. Has anyone else encountered this problem? If so can anyone help me salvage the file? I'm gutted as this amounts to a weeks worth of work so if anyone can help I'd be extremely grateful!
    Cheers,
    Mark

    Hi Chris,
    Unfortunately I didnt make any backups
    I have tried to open the file in Flash builder but it automatically loads flash catalyst as normal then fails to open. Is there a way of loading it in builder without loading catalyst? I'm not really familiar with builder so have just downloaded the trial. Tried importing the fxp file but cant find an option to do that.

  • File too large for volume format?

    I'm trying to copy a 4.6GB .m4v file from my hard disk to an 8GB USB flash drive.
    When I drag the movie in the finder, I get a dialogue telling me the file "is too large for the volume's format". That's a new one for me. If the flash drive has 8GB available, and the file is only 4.6GB in size, how is that too large? Does it have to do with the way the flash drive is formatted? It's presently formatted as MS DOS FAT 32. Is that the problem? Do I need to reformat as HFS+?  Or is it some other problem?

    The flash drive is pre-formatted FAT32 which has a maximum allowable file size of 2 GBs. Change the flash drive format for OS X:
    Drive Partition and Format
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.

  • JPG files become corrupt after Exporting in LR 3

    Does anyone have any idea what would cause
    my JPG files to be corrupt after I export my edited Raw images in LR3?  There are no problems with the Raw file, but once I edit them, apply what ever settings to them in LR I need, I export them as JPG to the same hard drive but in a sub folder where the raw files are, they will not open in photoshop or anywhere else. They are corrupt or lacking data????   When I upload them to my proofing website, there are colored streaks all through the image.  Now, I noticed that when I go into that folder of RAW images, and delete the .xmp files, I have to start over, but it fixes the problem.  So, now, I can't use .xmp sidecar files to save my editing. I'm fairly new to LR, so any suggestions would be great. I did recently upgrade my system to OS windows 7.  Everythign was fine till I had to reinstall everything on my computer...and I also changed hard drives. I upgraded to a Terabyte drive moving all my images from a 500G to the terabyte.  Could that cause my sidecar files to be corrupted?????
    Thank you!!!!!

    I doubt that the XMP files have anything to do with this, as Lightroom doesn't use these files when it creates an exported file.
    It sounds like your hardware may be the culprit; these types of corrupt files are often caused by a failing hard drive. Some corruption may have happened in the transfer from one hard drive to another; or the new hard drive has some sort of problem.
    Can you hook up the old hard drive again and see what happens to the photos there? Open one of them and compare it to the photo on the new hard drive.

  • All zip attachments are corrupt after downloading.

    Hi there,
    One of our content providers wants to link to a zip file from within a SCORM package.
    After importing and publishing in exactly the same way as normal the zip file is always corrupted after a user downloads it.
    Has anyone been able to get around this?
    TC

    Hi there,
    We have a custom Netweaver portal for LSO that is designed to only work with IE. So i am unable to test with another browser.
    I have tried republishing the package several times and each time the zip is corrupted.
    I have tried this with self built SCORM packages and even packaged a zip as an attachment within an Articulate package and everytime the zip is invalid/corrupted.
    I tested the zip by opening the package prior to publishing with Authoring Environment and the zip is okay, it is only after it is published through the repository that it is corrupted.
    Cheers for any help or advice you can offer.

  • Changes to rpt file not recognised

    Hi,I've been asked to help a company whose software supplier is being a bit awkward. The software is a stock control package and some of the reports are created using Crystal.They want to make some minor changes to the reports - moving fields about, changing labels, etc. The supplier told them to purchase Crystal v10, told them where the reports are and said to make the changes required and save them in the appropriate folder.We tried all of that yesterday with no success. Although we made obvious changes to a report the changes weren't displayed when the report was printed by the stock control system. Is the stock control system not using the .RPT file? Should we be saving the report in another format? I tried removing the .RPT file temporarily and the stock control system was still happy to print the report so I suspect it's either compiled into the executable or it's another file altogther.We tried all the obvious things like restarting the stock control software (even rebooting the machine). We weren't able to preview the report in Crystal as the data source (an XML file) is apparently created at runtime. I used Crystal many years ago but have no experience with recent versions.Any hints would be welcome.ThanksAnne

    You don't even tell us the name of the software package, yet you expect us to respond intelligently about its inner workings?
    I think that you've taken all of the right steps, you seem knowledgable about software. What I would do is a search of the machine for all RPT files. You don't bother to mention HOW this app launches reports either, is it browser based, a Windows program, and idea of the language or the API used?
    Do you know how to add in new reports? You might be able to delete the old ones and then publish a new one.
    If you require further assistance, please include information about the application.

  • Linking to a different document after a certain date

    I hope there is a way to do this.
    I have a PDF that I have added to a web page. It is a registration form to be filled out and sent in. The prices on the form reflects both early bird (until April 29) and regular prices.
    I have created a second registration form (not yet loaded) which only reflects the regular prices for use after the early bird date has passed. After the early bird time has lapsed, I was going to load the new PDF and change the link so that the second registration form is linked.
    I don't want to have them both available at the same time - less chance of someone coming back later and saying I didn't see the form with the early bird pricing.
    Is there a way I could set them both up on my site so that the first form is linked to until the end of April 29, and on April 30 the link will automatically bring people to the second form?
    THANKS
    deb

    The effort to do this by creating a dynamic page is just not worth it.
    Anyone saying it's too much effort is either lazy or they simply don't know how to build dynamic pages in a simple manner. Furthermore, it's not just about you and your issue; it's about anyone that maybe looking for a solution to the question you have asked: how to display a link based on if a date has passed or not. Not an alternative suggestion, a solution.
    It's very easy to create a dynamic link based off date. Of course bregent mentioned that it's not difficult, but there wasn't any mention of how easy it was (nor examples for that matter). Just lots of talk about whether it was worth it or not and an alternate, cumbersome suggestion. Bummer. Here's an example of the dynamic method with included explanation. You can decide whether it's worth the effort or not. I estimate it's less than 5 mins. of work, even for a beginner. Plus you might learn a thing or two about dynamic scripting in the process, which is exciting.
    Change the filename of register.html to register.php then use the following code to display link depending on date.
    <?php if (date("Y-m-d") < "2011-03-15") { ?>
    today is before March 15, 2011 put link to early bird pdf here.
    <?php } else { ?>
    today is on or after March 15, 2011 put link to regular rate pdf here.
    <?php } ?>
    You can use 301 redirect with .htaccess on apache server to redirect register.html to register.php if there's many links already established for register.html
    You'd need two different pdf files to accomplish your task: ealry_bird.pdf to use before your set date and regular_rate.pdf to use for after your set date.
    Then setup a function to remove the early_bird.pdf file from the server after a certain date. It's as easy as defining the variable and applying the function to the area that is congruent with the argument presented. In this case the argument is whether the date has passed or not. If it has then define the variable as the filename then apply the function that deletes the variable (filename) from the server as shown in the example below:
    <?php if (date("Y-m-d") < "2011-03-15") { ?>
    today is before March 15, 2011 <a href="/images/early_bird.pdf">link to early bird pdf here</a>.
    <?php } else {
    // declare variable for the early bird pdf file
    $pdffile = "/images/early_bird.pdf";
    // remove the early bird pdf file from the server
    // by using unlink function on the set variable
    unlink($pdffile); ?>
    today is on or after March 15, 2011 <a href="/images/regular_rate.pdf">link to regular rate pdf here</a>.
    <?php } ?>

  • Target File Size Too Large?

    Hello,
    We have an interface, that takes a Source File-> Transforms it in the Staging Area ->and outputs a Target File.
    The problem is the target file is way too large than what it is supposed to be.
    We do have the 'Truncate Option' turned ON, so its not duplicate records..
    We think its the Physical and Logical Lengths that are defined for the Target files.
    We think the logical length is way too large causing substantial 'spaces' between the data columns thereby increasing the file size.
    We initially had the Logical Length for the data columns as 12 and we got the following error:
    Arithmetic Overflow error converting numeric to data type numeric.
    When we increased the Logical Length from 12 to 20 the interface executed fine without errors. But now the target file size is just way too large 1:5
    Any suggestions to prevent these additional spaces in the target columns??
    Appreciate your inputs!
    Thanks

    Since 'File-system' does not have a property 'column length', ODI will automatically set a standard 'column length' according to the datatype of the column. In your case, as both your source and target is File, check the max length of each column in your source ( Ex: if your file is huge then open the file in excel and verify the lengths) and set the same 'Logical length' for your target file datastore.
    drop the temporary tables (set the 'delete temp objects' option to 'true' in the KMs) and re-run the Interface. hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Parasuram.

  • Flash site - swf file too large

    Hello,
    I have created a website using Flash CS5 using AS2. The site was completely custom designed using Photoshop and in then imported into Flash. The site has all of the pages in the main timeline on different keyframes, so say frame 2 is home, and frame 3 is services, etc. This is a site for my design portfolio so I have probably 5 galleries that I have made, but they are very simple, one frame will have the first picture, the next frame will have the second picture and so on. I have gotten my site exactly how I want it and works how I want it... but in the end the .swf file when published, is over 9MB which I know is wayyyyyy too large for a flash site that works fast for everyone.
    So how can I make this file size smaller. I am fairly new to this, although I had no problem getting my buttons to navigate with actionscript no problem, but my actionscript knowledge is very limited beyond that. I'm not sure where to go with this site to make the size smaller, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
    I can send someone the fla file to look at if needed.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the reply.
    Maybe you can help me a little more.
    I looked up some tutorials having to do with the AS2 xml galleries, and I found that almost all of them were for galleries with fancy scrolling options and slider bars, etc.
    My galleries are very very basic, thumbs are layed out on the left, click one and the image appears on the right. I'm not the best at using the actionscript and knowing what to do with all of it. So some of the tutorials made sense about getting files to load dynamically, but I'm not sure what code to keep in for my gallery, and what code to take out that I dont need for all the fancy effects.
    my site is http://www.mrolfedesigns.com
    as you can see, the galleries are pretty simple, I would like to keep them that way, and not have any complex scrolling or slider bars. Ive searched a lot into looking for some more simple tutorials, but am not finding any great ones that I can use.

  • MP3 file size too large ?

    Hi all,
    I purchased the C3 to replace my older 6300 a couple of days ago.
    It seems that my C3 problem discussed in another topic is almost similar.
    I placed a 1Gb memory card and works just fine. I can approach and play all MP3 files on it.
    But the option to use an MP3 as a ringtone is greyed out.
    Tried to get it to work through personalizing profiles gives me the error message : file size too large ! Everty time and no matter which MP3 I choose. The file size is 4.3 Mb.
    I tried editing the file, downsizing it to 770 Kb, but same error message occurs : too large.
    Any other suggestions before I decide to bring this phone back ?
