Do tags slow my mac?

Since Mavericks, my Mac has slow performance.  I have thousands of colored labels on files.  Is my Mac searching for files in the background due to the new Tag metadata?  Also I must often wait an extended time to save a fle since my Mac now wants to search the Cloud.
I'm not sure I have presented the problem correctly. Hope someone can help.  Thanks.

Thanks.  Is Carbonite the culprit?

  • Creating new tags slow in Mac OS Yosemite

    Hi
I have been finding creating new tags in Mac OS X Yosemite to be really slow. Whilst it was slow in Mavericks, it really is taking a lot of time now. Using previously created tags is not a problem.
Has anybody else found this, and a solution for it?
    With Thanks

My searching on this issue, which I had too, lead me to a solution. The problem is described and the solution outlined in the following posting:
         http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/146322/creating-and-modifying-tags-hang s-finder-in-os-x-10-9-mavericks
I think the issue isn't just in Yosemite, but seems to have got worse with that upgrade, but this fix worked for me, and it might for you too.

  • I have a Matrox DVI docking Station, it slows my mac, anyone with the same problem

I bought a matrox DS1/DVI thunderbolt docking station.
    It slowed my mac.
    Anyone with the same problem?
I' m thinking on buyong the Belkin docking station, but I don't want to have the same problems as with the matrox one, any comments on this?
    I apreciate your responce

    Disable all Firewalls & Anti-Virus software...try again.

  • ACC slows down Mac OS X Finder (10.8.4)

I'm an iOS programmer. Knows Mac OS SDK well.
I downloaded and subscribed Adobe Creative Cloud.
From then, curious problem appeared on my Finder of Mac OS X.
If ACC is running background (when ACC is on my menu bar), my Finder slows down or Even cannot access to ANY or some directories.
At first, it has been observed only in accessing Library folder, but today my Desktop folder was not accessed. Continuous spinning waiting sign....!
So I quit ACC  and reset Finder, then Everything restores.
IF I don't quit ACC and reset Finder, then Nothing restores.
Do you understand this? If not, I will show screen capture video.
I hoped your new update caught this problem, but it seems not included.
Be alert to Mac OS X user's voice... I have Windows laptop but it doesn't slow down File Explorer.
    Thank you.

    version of ACC is 1.1.0.213
Today I executed ACC agent again, and the Finder failed to reach Library folder.
But after quitting and relaunching of ACC agent, Finder didn't fail to reach to any folder.
I wil turn it on and will see if those error occurs again.
    Sincerely,
    Hison Kahng

    Hi YerimENTClinic,
Are you still seeing the behavior?
What version of Creative Cloud app are you using? (From the Preferences > Account tab)
Does signing out of Creative Cloud, closing it, relaunching and signing in make any difference?
    Thanks,
    -Dave

  • Very slow running Mac Mini

    Hi,
I'd like to thank all people supporting us (users) in these discussions, and especially the person who helped me restoring my MBP's performance,
I'm requesting once again some help for my Mac Mini which is very very slow.
Mac Mini running OS X Moutain Lion + Apple's Server add-on (a few services are running : file sharing mainly).
    Thanks in advance,

Hello Hedi, see how many of these you can answer...
See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7029
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free Disk space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab of Activity Monitor, are there a lot of Pageouts?

  • DW8 slow on Mac OS X. Any remedy?

    I've got a G5 single processor 1.8, 2GB SDRAM which is pretty
    OK. All
apps are working quite well and as fast as one can expect.
    But DW (both
2004 and 8.0.2 which use now) has always been a major PITA.
    More or less
each and every command takes 2-4 seconds to execute. It's not
    only
frustrating to be forced to wait this "long" time hundreds
    (thousands)
of times each day. Precious time is also going out the drain
    as I lose
    perhaps 1-2 hours/day this way.
I searched Adobe for info, and found just one "fix" which was
    to trash
the preference file. I did that, but I can't see any
    increased speed.
I also have a gadget that's prioritizing CPU power, and I'm
    always
having DW to get all before any other app. DW consumes 40-60%
    of the CPU
each time it executes a command.
    I don't have many extensions (10-12) but they shouldn't
    affect DW
anyway, should they? Further, I don't have more than 6-7
    sites defined,
the cache folder in Application Support is a mere 5 MB...
Anyone knows of a fix or tips how to increase speed?
    Thanks in advance for suggestions....
    Mac

running DMX 2004 or Mac OS 10.4 and I never had speed issues
    (besides FTP).
I did not upgrade to v.8 though (because I did not have speed
issues with v.7) and heard lots of
complaints about speed issues with 8 and Mac.

You're running in the absolute bare minimum ram to run just the OS, anything you try to do on top of that will slow your mac to a crawl. Take a look at OWC for upgrade options http://eshop.macsales.com

  • Slow running Mac OS X 10.6

    Hello all,
I am experiencing a pretty slow running Mac over the past couple of days. I have just about tried everything I can think of: Disk Utility which says everything is ok. I cleaned out the cache, history, and I only have 1 item in Login Items. I installed VirusBarrier X5 today (I'm in school and it's run by the school) but (thank God) no viruses/corrupted files were found. However, all that didn't improve the Mac's speed.
    Any suggestions?
As you can see, I'm not using a lot of space - but I don't really know why the number of files is so high!?
    Thanks,
    Susanne

  • How can I resolve an excruciatingly slow i-Mac (OS x Lion 10.7.4)

I am having problems resolving a slow i-Mac ...Have tried a system utility re-boo using  installation disk, but if anything its now worse.
Problems arose when I downloaded Lion - after being prompted to do so to upgrade to ICloud.  On shut down, the applications don't quit and the Rainbow wheel is evident during most applications.  Have not used MacKeeper as I'd prefer to learn a more hands on approach, which I can trust more...however that's not working either!

How much RAM do you have? 2gb is the required minimum but more will likely make a big difference to performance.
You could try a Safe Boot which sometimes fixes things: Restart holding down the shift key until you see the grey progress bar. Once booted restart as normal from the Apple menu.
Also, your could try booting into the Recovery HD (restart holding down Command+R) where you can launch Disk Utility to run some checks on your hard drive.
Good move not installing MacKeeper given the problems it seems to cause based on the posts on here and elsewhere.
Edit to add: also check your start up items in System Prefernces>Users & Groups and remove anything that isn't essential.

  • SWF Plays Slow in Mac Browsers

My website works fine in all browsers except Mac browsers
where it runs really slow. This is highly irritating and makes no
sense to me. Does anybody know why this occurs and how it can be
    fixed?

Oh dear, its taken quite a bashing today. You have anything
positive to say to make me feel better? Plenty of other people have
applauded the navigation, but I guess each to their own. I could
stick up for the elements you've knocked but I don't want to fuel
more criticism, its my baby you see.
Anyway this isn't a debate about the design. It works fine on
PCs so I'm assuming the problem doesn't lie with PNGs and alphas
and gradients and all that, and it works fine on really old PCs and
in stand alone players on Macs. The problem I presume is with what
is talked about in this article:
    http://weblogs.macromedia.com/md/archives/2005/08/flash_player_8.cfm.
I was just wondering if this can fixed yet?
I'm pleasantly surprised you say things are whizzing around
at dizzying heights because that is the way its supposed to be, but
I've one or two reports of it running slow on Macs, so I really am
    confused.
The only assets I'm loading in are the examples of work (i.e.
the thumbs - bundled with the text, and the full image of the work
when the thumbs are clicked). I am not using AS to unload them no,
but the play head plays to the next frame where the first loaded
movie is no longer there and the second movie is.
All that said, it works fine an even old PCs so it should be
the same on Macs. Thanks loads for your help, even though my egos a
bit bruised after your helpful criticisms, ha I like it anyway and
I guess I'm the client in this case.

  • Data transfer very slow on mac pro!! mac H/W unable to fit specifications.

    Hi,
I am installinginternal disks on the quad mac pro and the transfer ratet in the mac are very slow!!!
the disks are: barracuda 7200.10 disks, 500 GB. Sta II 300, max ST3500630AS firmware 3.AAE . throughput:300mb.jumpred off to get the 300.
MAC tells that the QUAD MAC Pro equipment (2x2.66ghz dualcore intel xeon) comes with a 3.Gigabit specification/ 300MB/sec. (Intel ESB2 AHCI, speed: 3.0 Gigabit. AHCI version 1.10 supported)...
And the benchmarks of the disk ST3500630AS show maximum 80MB/sec and a minimin of 37.3MB/sec, average 63.1 MB/sec. (anandtech tests).
According to seagate.com the maximum sustained data transfer rate:78MB/s
but in the mac the reallity is different: I am getting a transfer rate of 22MB/sec!!!!! . with out any application running and only making copy of the files!!!!
that means that the mac is only providing only 1/3 of the expected transfer rate for the disks..
so, is there a way that the MAC Pro gets all the normal transfer rate for those disks???
Is the Quad MAC Pro hardware unable to get the maximum throughput of the disks???
It seems that the mac is unable to get also the average transfer rate of those disks.. how to correct it???
    thanks a lot
    Alberto
ps. just for fun: I am getting a faster transfer rate from an old power pc ,and old pc, and firewire 400 and old ide disks!!! (36MB/seg!!!)

    Yup.
BThe latest Mac Pro are better, so if you have a new or 2 month old unit, Seagate should work, though I think there should be later firmware.
Some would say those drives take the cake or woRSe.
    http://www.barefeats.com/hard91.html
    SEAGATE PUZZLES
+Firmware version 3.AEE or later solves the slow sustained large block write speed issue for a single 7200.10 inside the Mac Pro.+
+The remaining performance issue is slow small random read speeds for one, two, three or four drives. No matter how many drives you configure in RAID 0 sets, the average random read speed for combined block sizes from 64K to 1024K is less than 30MB/s (based on QuickBench 3 testing).+
+Until Seagate fixes this, we can't recommend the 7200.10 series as the ideal boot drive for the Mac Pro (or Power Mac).+

  • Firefox 3.6.8 is slow on Mac OSX 10.4.11

Since upgrading to 3.6.8, I have noticed that Firefox crawls to a virtual halt immediately after clicking on links that either open or download PDF files. It doesn't freeze but just runs really really slow e.g. it will 5-10 seconds to recognise a menu click. The only way of getting out of it is to force-quit Firefox and re-open the program. All other programs running at the same time seem to run OK so it is something specific to Firefox not a general System problem. There were no such problems with earlier versions of Firefox but I did notice that all Firefox versions I have used tend to slow down the longer it is used regardless of how many windows or tabs are open. I would usually just quit and re-start after a few hours . . . but the problem mentioned above with PDF's and 3.6.8 is different.

I can't even force quit Firefox. I'm running MAC OSX10.4.11. Can't shut down computer without hard turn off on back of MAC. When I turn on again, the same frozen Firefox is on the screen. Can't escape this junk. This has happened so often that I may never use Firefox again IF I CAN EVER QUIT out of it.

    things are hanging frequently
When you next have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above. Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first. Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough. It is never necessary or helpful to post more than about 100 lines. "The more, the better" is not the rule here.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Why do I get a continued msg that a script is not completing. It seems to be slowing my Mac: "Script: chrome://forecastfox/content/observers.js:1

A pop-up window keeps appearing with the message that a script is not completing correctly - " "Script: chrome://forecastfox/content/observers.js:1" I'm given the choice to a) let it continue in the hopes it will complete or b) cancel. No matter which choice I make, the little window persists up in the corner of my screen and then sometimes brings itself to the front again, so I get to make the choice all over again. Most annoying also because I can't close the little pop-up...it hides itself in the top left and appears as a small blank there. I have the distinct impression that it's making my Mac run slower... and I would love to get rid of it. It's not related to Firefox 5...it was there before with the previous version, too...and is one of the reasons I upgraded. I don't want Chrome, by the way...so it's also annoying to see its name in the offending script-name. I took a screen shot but can't figure out how to attach it to this description. It happens every time I open Firefox...not immediately but after a while.

Disable or uninstall the ForecastFox extension.
