Do the french and portuguese apple keyboard layouts have the same characters?

Sometimes I have to type in portuguese which is impossible with a british keyboard because they have accented words, but since the french language does and there's an option for a french keyboard on the online store custom orders, I was wondering if I can just order it in french layout and then change the language settings to portuguese. Does anyone know if it is possible? Thanks.

No true.  First you can type all the accents with the British keyboard by just using the normal Mac deadkey shortcuts.  Here is a chart"
http://homepage.mac.com/thgewecke/diacritics.html
Second, you can set the keyboard layout to Portuguese in system prefs/language & text/input sources and then use keyboard viewer to see which key does what.  Keyboard Viewer is activated in the same place as the keyboard.

    restart and hold Command+r to enter in recovery mode and ill allow you to repair your OS X installation. If you cannot repair it, then just create a new user, as usually issues with keyboards are rooted in the user's account.
    Good luck

    Can anybody help me on this issue? I have already tried to replace the batteries but since the computer won't get past the spinning wheel of death then the keyboard won't connect.

    Please follow Apple's advice in http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570. If you need to get your hands on a wired USB keyboard, even a PC one will work fine.
    Do not follow the previous poster's advice, that option is a "last chance" option. OS X is stable and in most cases a reinstall is never needed. Follow the directions in Apple's letter.

  • How to Identify the Same Characters in 2 Different Strings

    Hi All,
    I am requiring a suggestion on how to identify the same characters in 2 different Strings, for example:
    String str1 = "hello";
    String str2 = "llheo";
    Both Strings contain the same characters, but in a different order, so what would be the best technique to verify t that both Strings indeed contain the same characters?
    I was personally thinking along the lines of using the class, java.util.regex.Pattern?
    Any thoughts would me much appreciated. Thanks

    I would instead sort the characters, and then compare
    the sorted data.
    I'm fealing generous
        private static boolean anagram(String left, String right)
            if (left.length() != right.length())
                return false;
            char[] leftChars = left.toCharArray();
            char[] rightChars = right.toCharArray();
            Arrays.sort(leftChars);
            Arrays.sort(rightChars);
            return Arrays.equals(leftChars, rightChars);

  • Bug report: A keyboard layout is incorrect on the remote with Hungarian and other "exotic" keyboard layouts

    This is a bug report for Microst Remote Desktop
    ===================================================
    ## Summary
    A keyboard layout is incorrect on the remote with Hungarian keyboard
    ## Version Information, I tested
    * Client
        * Case 1
            * MacBook Pro with HU101 Keyboard
    * Locale: Hungarian
            * Mac OS X Maverics 10.9.2
            * Microsoft Remote Desktop 8.0.6
    * Remote
        * Case 1
            * Windows Server 2003 R2 (English)
        * Case 2
            * Windows Server 2008 R2 (English)
        * Case 3
            * Windows 8.1 (Hungarian)
    ## Detail of bug
    When I connect to the listed remotes the client sets the keyboard layout to Latvian which is a completely different layout than Hungarian (not even close...).
    - On Windows 8 if I set the language on the login screen it stays on that language after the login.
    - On Windows Server 2003R2 and 2008R2 even if I set the language at login it will switch back to LV after the login.
    ## Attachments
    Unfortunately cannot include my shots because I'm not allowed to do this...
    ## End of report
    Please allow the users to set the correct "target" language on connection basis because the automatic method the app use to determine that is unreliable.

  • Anyone had an issue on iphone 4s where bluetooth connects one day and then the next will not discover anything, but then a little while later it works again?  I have 2 audio devices and an apple keyboard that I have this issue with. Effects ALL.

    I have an iphone 4s.  A while ago it started having issues with bluetooth.  All of the sudden, an audio headset I am using quits working with my iphone bluetooth.  I check and my iphone doesn't see any of my bluetooth devices.  I have an apple keyboard, a headset, and a speaker.  Nothing shows up on my iphone but they all connect perfectly to my ipad.  Then a day or so later it works again. The are all suddenly there.  I just installed iOS7 and I'm still having the same problem. What is UP?  Anyone have a clue what is going on?

    I have this problem too. I have an iPhone 4, and this wasn't a problem when I bought the phone back in December. I think it came a month or so later and I suspect with a standard upgrade of something like itunes, or iphone software... but I can't pinpoint it to any specific update as it took me a while to notice it. For me, it does this with my work calendar which is run through Microsoft Outlook. But it's the exact same thing - and it means my calendar isn't reliable anymore.
    I've made sure the time-zone settings are correct, I've updated all software, and gone through all possible settings for both my i-phone and Outlook. Nothing fixes the problem, even our tech guy at work didn't know what to do. I know it's not just my phone as the exact same thing has happened with my boss's iPhone which is an iPhone 3G, and it frustrates him to no end.
    I'm really hoping someone at apple can tell us what's going on, especially since it never used to do this and there doesn't seem to be any way to fix it. If someone thinks they know what itunes update this was due to, let me know - I'll see if I can go back to that older version.

  • My apple keyboard layout went crazy, how can I repair ?

    Hey people
    So, I have a little problem here. This weekend my apple keyboard stopped working out of nowhere, I use the keyboard together with my mabook pro. after a long battle i finaly got them to synchronized after change the battery, 3 reboots, and a whole mambo-jambo that i cant explain... The problem is that somehow the whole layout was changed. I'm using the U.S. international, but the U.S. layout is showing me a Japanese one, there's a picture attached that shows how things are going. Anyone have a clue ? I wanna  go back to the normal U.S international again.
    Thank
    Ps. I am using OS X Lion in portuguese

  • PS, OS X and Norwegian Apple keyboard, shortcut problems

    I have searched high and low (forums, google etc) for a solution to my problem. I am becoming quite desperate and thought it wise to post. It might be an odd problem that only a few of us have, since it relies on a non-US keyboard. I might share my problem with more people than I realise.
    My problem is Photoshop and keyboard shortcuts.
    E.g. I am using Magentic Lasso Tool and want to increase or decrease the tolerance level or I am using a brush and I want to increase or decrease brush size. These commands rely on [,],{,} and similar keys. Especially when using Magentic Lasso Tool (I use that and brush a lot for masking) I need to increase and decrease contrast.
    On a Norwegian Apple keyboard [,],{,} and similar keys are mapped with pressing the ALT + 8 and 9 or ALT + SHIFT 8 and 9 accordingly. Photoshop doesn't recognize ALT + or ALT + SHIFT modifiers. It just doesn't work and I can't access the shortcuts.
    I can't use the mouse to navigate to Tolerance either, as with Magentic Lasso Tool it will create a path upwards in the canvas towards the toolbar and when I click the value box to change it will complete the current path to selection.
    I thought I'd be smart and change the shortcut in Tools from [,] to ALT + 8 and 9, but Photoshop denies me this with the message "Opt+8 is an invalid shortcut. You can only use a single character for tool shortcuts."
    I can map the keys to something else and sacrifice another important shortcut of course. This would just cause more problems down the line.
    I know there are users or lurkers in this forum with a similar problem. Anyone up for giving me my sanity back?

    Exactly. Bad translations and the lack of application-updates were the main reasons I originally switched to US English versions years and versions ago. Unfortunately I need to use Swedish localized versions at work so I still see the lousy translations.
    For those of you who are only using English and living in English speaking countries, note that the problem is that keyboards that come with the machines are localized to your area and if you change keyboard layout the layout of the keys do not match what is under them. Does make it hard to work unles you glue something to the keys or create an overlay (remember those?) for the keyboard. That means that for isntance you cannot reach the tilde key (just an example, there are other ones too) but by using yet other keys to get there. That's what breaks the shortcut.
    Editing keyboard shortcuts in each and every version of the applications is usally also not an option (and in some apps those shortcuts - if they can be called shortcuts when they contain around 4 keys...) as the shortcuts do not even reside in a selfcontained file that you can move to other machines, but is embedded into other settings. Or hardcoded into the application an unreachable. And not portable between versions.
    Changing keyboard layout in Internationl is not an option either.
    The only application that is semi-smart is actually Bridge where you can set your keyboard prefs to another keyboard layout than the one you use for the application itself (Bridge is multi-lingual like OS X) and then the shortcuts follow with that setting. On the other hand you cannot edit shortcuts in Bridge. Bridge is also a limited application when it comes to features and shortcuts which makes this esier from an engeneering view I would guess. The other Adobe apps are far more complex in that regard (and if a short-cut would be changed in favour of the international users in for instance Illustrator, you would hear a roar you wouldn't believe from those Illustrator users....those are a conservative bunch).
    The only solution that would be a good one would be if there would be no hardcoded shortcuts at all that are tied to one keyboard layout only, the US English one, but would use keys that can be used regardless of keyboard layout used at user end. I've fought for this for many years but so far only with limited success.

  • Dwm and non-english keyboard layouts problem

    Hi all,
    I am using dwm 5.5. I'm Greek so I change between keyboard layouts all the time,
    see the relevant xorg.conf section:
    Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "Generic Keyboard"
    Driver "kbd"
    Option "XkbRules" "xorg"
    Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
    Option "XkbLayout" "us,gr"
    Option "XkbVariant" ","
    Option "XkbOptions" "grp:alt_shift_toggle,grp_led:scroll"
    EndSection
    Now the thing is that whenever I switch to Greek (by pressing Alt+Shift) the
    dwm tags (1,2,...,9) are not clickable (keyboard shortcuts do work
    though, so it's not a very big problem).
    Do you have any ideas about how to fix that behavior? I'd go to the dwm irc
    channel and ask them, but I'll be a "newbie asking stupid questions" so I
    preferred to ask here
    Thanks in advance

  • NCS and non US keyboard layout - Guest - Email ID and @

    Problem:
    The problem is that we cannot email the Guest Account Details to the guest, because the popup where we fill in the email of the guest - Email ID - Does not recognise the @ when using non US Keyboard layout.
    When i use my local keyboard layout (Danish) and press AltGr+2 (this is the keyboard "shortcut" for @) it writes nothing.
    When i switch to US keyboard layout and press Shift+2 it writes @ fine.
    Version:
    Tried this in both 1.0 and I just upgraded to 1.1 and it is still the same.
    Does anyone know of a open BugID that addresses the following problem on the NCS Lobby Ambasador page ?

    Thomas,
    Have you tried it from different machines and different OSes and confirmed that the common denominator is NCS and not your specific KB/OS setup?

  • Found English Keyboard and English Apple Keyboard And How to remove apple keyboard language

    I have found 2 english language keyboard It occur in Windows 8 pro
    one is united stated(Apple)keyboard
    and one is US Keyboard
    Sometime it show up when i change the language
    question 1:What is difference between US(Apple)Keyboard and US Keyboard
    question 2:How to remove US(Apple)Keyboard?
    question 3:Does it have affect when i remove US(apple)Keyboard?
    question 4:How it appear on iMac windows 8?

    If you are using a keyboard made by Apple, then you should normally choose US(Apple) keyboard to make sure that all the characters are typed the way they appear on the keys.  If for some reason you are using a Windows keyboard, then you should normally use US instead of US(Apple).
    The two versions exist because there can be differences between Apple and other keyboards.
    It is not a good idea to "remove" anything.  For info on how to deactivate a keyboard in a Windows system, you need to consult the Help for that system or ask in a Windows forum.

  • AIR and czech/hungarian keyboard layouts

    Hey,
    my users are reporting, that when they use czech or hungarian
    (or probably other) keyboard layouts they can't use AltGr key in

    they have to use AltGr+V combination to get "@" symbol. Is there
    something I can do to enable them to user their keyboard

  • How can I substitute characters in a string when the same characters are used in both input and output strings

    Hi Numbers users,
    I am trying to get Numbers 2.3 on OS X (10.9.1) to convert  cells containing variable length strings composed of 6 letters, A, B, C, a, b, c into a second string containing the same 6 lettersusing the rule A to c, B to b, and C to a and vice versa, so for example cell A1 might contain string "AcBbCaaB" and I want Numbers to convert this into "cAbBaCCb" in cell B1. I have tried to use the SUBSTITUTE function (nested) without success so far as I end up with the letters either all uppercase or all lowercase. I understand why this is happening and maybe it isn't possible using SUBSTITUTE. Does anyone know if there is another function I can use to do this?
    Thanks, Hugh.

    you can use this method:
    Add a new table, called "Translator", show as the bottom table:
    Enter the data in columns B anc C as shown
    cell A1 contains:
    "=CODE(B1)"
    select cell A1 and fill down
    For the table on top enter your code in column A.  The converted code will be in column B.  Make sure there are enough columns (I went out to column AD):
    B2=R2&S2&T2&U2&V2&W2&X2&Y2&Z2&AA2&AB2&AC2&AD2
    C2=LEN(A2)
    D2=MID($A2, COLUMN()−2, 1)
    select D2, copy,
    select cells D2 thru P2, paste
    R2=IFERROR(VLOOKUP(CODE(D2), Translator::$A:$C, 3, 0), "")
    select R2, copy,
    select cells R2 thru AD2, paste
    select B2 thru AD2 and fill down as needed
    You can hide columns C thru AD

  • IBook and my Apple Keyboard

    Hello all!
    I've got an Apple external keyboard and when I plug it into my USB port and it won't recognize it. I've tried it in a hub and directly into the iBook and neither works. It did give me a messege about a power issue, but I cannot get the error messege back to look it up. Is there a place to check the USB power or any other suggestions to fix it?
    iBook G4 baby! 80GB, 1.2 Ghz, External HDs   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   PC Laptop, iPods (shuffle, 3G, 5G), Digital Cameras, etc...

    Thanks for the help Jon, here's the list so far:
    It's the official mac keyboard (with USB)
    I've got one USB port being used with my External HD and Firware with my second HD.
    The Keyboard is being plugged in directly with and without external devices and no power. I also plugged a card reader into the extra USB devices on the top of the keyboard to see if it gets any power, but no luck. It looks as though the keyboard is never recognized to begin with. I'm fixing to check for driver updates for any help, but if there are none, it looks like a faulty keyboard. Any other things? Thanks!
