Do the new 2014 MBPs support DisplayPort 1.2 MST?

Hi all,
Do the recently released 2014 MacBook Pros support DisplayPort 1.2 MST for daisy chaining (e.g. daisy chaining two Dell U2713H monitors)?
Thanks.

There should be no difference in hardware or software between the late 2013 models and the "new" 2014 models except a slight speed bump to the processors. Granted I do not have one of the new models "in hand" but I have spoken to several Apple specialist who have said the only difference is with the processor, (And again it's a small one at that.)
i Apologize if I was no help, I just thought I'd chime in and give my 2 cents though.

I have just been told by Adobe that I have to UNINSTALL ALL PREVIOUS VERSIONS OF THEIR APPLICATIONS IN ORDER TO USE THE NEW 2014 VERSIONS. No software update is worth the time it will take to do that!!!!! I don't know about the rest of you but I am woefully disappointed in Adobe. I pay on time every single month SINCE CREATIVE CLOUD BECAME AVAILABLE and now they place this on me? NOT HAPPY.

Oh, and I'm on a MAC, not a PC so how could my database be corrupted?
Shruthi: The caps.db file is located in Library/Application Support/Adobe/caps folder
Shruthi: Can you try uninstalling from Adobe installers.
Susan Meredith: You folks don't understand. Most of us are very excited at the new "bells and whistles" that Adobe has introduced and in the past we've been able to QUICKLY update to the new version. We haven't had to uninstall anything to get the new. We are all working and have deadlines. This is A HARDSHIP ON ADOBE'S USERS AND THEY NEED TO FIX IT ON THAT END. Or give up some monthly fees.
Susan Meredith: There are many ways to uninstall. I can do it through "CleanMyMac". But now I don't trust that Adobe's programs will actually download and then I'm in trouble...and out of business.

Does the new airport extreme support backing up via time machine to an external hard drive pluged into the usb port

Yes, but you might want to note that the port on the AirPort Extreme is only USB 2.0, and that it runs at about half the speed of the USB 2.0 port on a computer, so things are going to be quite SLOW as far as backups are concerned, or anything else for that matter.

  • Why do all my brushes "lag" with the new 2014 upgrade when they perform fine in regular CC?

After upgrading to the new 2014 version of Photoshop today, I've noticed that all of my brushes and painting tools have considerable "lag" time. Switch back over to the previous Photoshop CC and the brushes don't lag at all. I've tinkered with the performance settings in 2014 but nothing affects the lag-time.
    Thoughts?

Some folks are experiencing a slowdown with the latest version of Photoshop, while others aren't.  Adobe engineering is looking into it, and are asking for system details from folks experiencing the problem.
Please see this post for the information requested:

  • Does the new mac pro support the Apple cinema display

Does the new mac pro support the Apple cinema display

There is no 2007 23" Cinema Display
There is a 2002 23" display that has the Apple ADC connector

There is also the 2004 23" display with a DVI connector.
For the latter you just need a mini display port to DVI connector that plugs into the Thunderbolt port
For the former you need that connector plu an DVI to ADC connector

  • Is it necessary to keep Premiere Pro CC on my hard drive after installing the newer "2014" version?

After installing the latest version, I discovered that the old Pro CC wasn't replaced by the new "2014." So I'm wondering if it's necessary for any reason to keep the old one, or can I go through the "Uninstall" routine without doing any harm to the new one.

If your only concern is doing damage to the 2014 version, I suspect Adobe built it so that you could remove the old versions and not harm the new ones.
On the other hand, it is good practice to keep the old versions as long as you can. As the others mentioned above you can save projects one version down and if you remove the old Pr you will have to convert your old projects to 2014 if you want to open them. Finally, I am sure Adobe will remove the option to download the old versions eventually and if you have removed them you may be in trouble if you come across an issue that requires an older version.
My advise would be to keep the old versions until Adobe releases a few patches for the 2014 versions just incase some major bugs begin to pop up.

The new win8 not support iTunes

Microsoft made many changes between the original preview and the current preview, so what worked in the earlier version may not work in the current one, and vice versa. Again, Apple's software is not yet supported in Windows 8 and almost certainly will not be until Win 8 is officially released, if then. You may be able to get the standalone installer to work, but if you can't, you'll just have to wait for a supported release, or take the issue up on a forum for the Windows 8 Preview and see if someone there can help you.
    Regards.

  • If the new appletv doesnt support analog how do you run zone 2 on surround systems?

if the new appletv doesnt support an analog signal to send to zone 2 on a surround system what i am supposed to do now? i have been using the first gen appletv for many years with no trouble. NOW WHAT?  apple has finally screwed up!

Use a Digital to Analog Audio Converter like this one from MonoPrice. It won't play 5.1 audio but stereo tracks should convert just fine.

  • Will the new 2012 iMac support 2 hard drives (HDD and SSD) like the 2011 iMac?

Will the new 2012 iMac support 2 hard drives (HDD and SSD) like the 2011 iMac?

Well, I'm not sure how anything can fit into a 5 mm depth, so I can see why they've removed the CD drive -  there probably wouldn't be enough room for the laser, LOL. Can't imagine speakers, hard drive (of any flavor), logic board and so on and so forth. Fortunately, my iMac has Applecare through early 2015 so I'm set for a while; I may check out a Mini at that point - saw that it is configurable with a fusion drive, which would make it interesting for me.

  • The ability of the new 2014 Mac Pro to run older legacy OSX versions?

Being a video editor, I will probably be in the market to buy the new Mac Pro when it's released into the marketplace (which should be very soon).
So my question is...I usually retain several different startup drives, with different versions of OSX and different versions of editing software.   Let's say I have the new Mac Pro, the 2014 edition, but rather than edit a new project in Mavericks and FCPX...I find that I need to go back to a legacy version of OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard and FCP 7.   And I have that on a bootable external drive.    And the key question is...would anyone know if I could boot up on that using the new Mac Pro hardware?
My current Mac Pro is an older one, 1.1, and I have no difficulty in restarting and booting up from legacy drives containing older versions of the OSX.   I'm hoping the same may be true of the new one.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated...thanks, John

your   1,1 as a backup, test system, safety net would be excellent. And if you have not already, some are very happy with cheap 53xx upgrades to 8-core and some other touches to keep it running smoothly.
I wish there was a bootable PCIe 6G card, not for booting but better support for PCIe 1.x SSD controllers.
I feel like I am hitting some bandwidth walls lately - seems odd but my i7 2.66 920 PC running 7 or 8.1 feels smoother and better in comparison to Lion 10.7.5  Lion use to feel perfectly fine, but  background tasks, especially TimeMachine and CCC can seemingly bring  it to its knees - slow web page loading for one thing.
If  you can afford to keep the 1,1 and make some improvements to it, do so though. It's latest 7 yrs and may have a couple more years of life left in it.

  • Does the new AIR SDK support iOS 64-bit for Flex Developers?

I saw that the new AIR SDK(December 18, 2014) has supported iOS 64-bit, but it was only supported in the new compiler. See this:
Please note that support for creating universal IPA binaries will only be available in the new compiler. The legacy compiler is not (and will not be)
compatible with iOS 64-bit. Because of this, it will be removed with version 16 of the AIR SDK. To ensure that Adobe as well as third party tools
are able to work with this AIR SDK, the -useLegacyAOT option will continue to exist, but will be internally mapped to the new compiler.
AFAIK, the Flex uses the old compiler and AIR SDK for Flex Developers doesn't include ActionScript 2.0 Compiler. As a Flex developer, what shall I do?

    Hi,
I guess, you might be packaging IPA on windows machine.  Please try latest beta at http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/air.html which has iOS64 support on Windows machine as well.
    Thanks

  • For video editing, is the new 13" MBP enough? Or should I go for 15"?

For video editing, I will be using both Final Cut Pro 7, and Adobe CS5.
Is the new 13" Macbook Pro enough? I'm asking both for the lower-end and higher-end 13". Or should I just go with the 15"?
I'm just seeking for opinions from more experienced mac users, since this is my first transfer from Windows to Mac. Also, I'm taking into consideration in the price difference among these different models.
    Thank you very much

It will render much faster on the new quad cores then any other MBP ever made. This new release is really a pretty major deal in the laptop world to my thinking. If I didn't just get a new iMac, I would be probably getting one. I don't do a lot of video and I use FCE not Pro so my need isn't as great, but I do a lot of photography and with several things open at once so the power matched with sufficient ram is pretty amazing. But is it absolutely a must? I had a friend who just until this year was a film music editor and he was using Pro Tools on a G4 Power Book though he had to start working around the machine limitations at the end of the day, but it is possible. Still for the money, the new machines are a great deal at pretty much the same price as what they are replacing. I know I'm advocating here, but I'm just a user not and employee:)

  • Will the new W540 laptop support output to dual monitors?

I am doing some research on the new W540 laptop and noticed that it doesn't have any other video output other than a 14pin monitor out and a thundrebolt port.  We would like to be able to use dual 30" 2560x1600 monitors.  Any info would be great.  I don't even know if the older laptop docks with this laptop.  The dock has multiple monitor outpots so I thing they would work but I need to know before making a purchase decision.

Moderator Note; thread moved to here from ThinkStation

Probably not the right forum, but going to the W540 page on the Lenovo site and then clicking accessories brought up a blurb about the ThinkPad Pro dock, which included the following:
DisplayPort connector, DVI-D connector, VGA monitor port, and a Kensington security lock slot.
*ThinkPad Pro Dock works with the 2013 classic ThinkPad models, including L Series, W Series, X240, T440p, T540p, and T440 without NVIDIA® Optimus™ technology.

  • Is the new iMac keyboard (small) the same as the one in the new 15" MBP?

Hi, I have an easy question but I couldn't find any information on the Internet. I just bought a 24" iMac and I was willing to buy a skin for the keyboard (I already have an iSkin for my 15" 2008 MacBook Pro and is great). When I opened the box I had the surprise of a smaller keyboard (without the number keypad). So the skin that I was looking to buy for the imac keyboard did not fit in the new one. My question is, if the iMac keyboard is the same as the one in the new 15" MacBook Pro. I ask this because I can't find a skin for the new small imac keyboard and if it is the same as the MacBook Pro I can buy the skin for that keyboard. But before wasting my money I wanted to be sure they are the same.
Thank you very much in advance

That's no news, although it there are other things apart from the layout that could make them different: the spaces between keys and the format of the keys are also important. As I don't have an new MBP I was wondering if someone could tell me if the keyboard of the imac and the one of the MBP are the same.

  • Will the new 13 MBP 2.4 Ghz be fast enough to properly run Aperture 3?

I'm in the market for purchasing a macbook pro (currently have an 07' model macbook), and my question is will the 13 inch 2.4 Ghz be able to properly run aperture 3? My current macbook is able to run it, but quickly overheats and becomes alot slower, and while the 15 inch mbp does sound great, the size is just too big for me (also on a tight budget).
    Thanks for the help.

Depends on your definition of properly and, more specifically, what types of images you usually work with in Aperture. JPEGS would be no problem. Smaller RAW files should be fine as well. If, however you're working with RAW files from a newer DLSR (15-24 megapixels each), then you're going to find Aperture sluggish. This isn't only because of the processor, which is still decent, but also because of the slower integrated graphics rather than the higher performance discrete graphics found in the larger MacBook Pros.
You'll also have a relatively slow 5400 RPM hard drive unless you're going for an SSD (which I doubt given your budget). All these factors add up to limit performance in one of the most performance intensive apps around.
FWIW, if Aperture is your primary app (it's mine and I love it), I'd go with a 15". Besides performance, the screen size on a 13" is pretty small for working with apps like Aperture and Photoshop and hi-res photos. If you really can't swing the 15", you might want to take a look at Lightroom. Although I don't like it as much as Aperture, particularly when it comes to organizing my images, it does perform much better on slower hardware.
