Do the new Aluminium 24" iMacs have the inverter hum problem ?

I'm looking to get myself the new Aluminium iMac 24" however my experience with the 2007 White iMac 24" was a loud hum from the inverter that drove me nuts !
Does anyone know if the 2009 model makes a loud hum when the screen brightness it turned down ?
I can't see anything recent posts, so hoping the problem is fixed in the new design ...

I have the new 2009 24 in imac and I have not heard in any noise it is quiet. Hope that helps at all.

No, the new Apple Remote uses 4 way directional buttons instead of a clickwheel.

  • I needed idvd, but since my iMac is newer, I didn't have idvd on it. I installed iLife 11. I should not have installed the iPhoto part because it was 9.1 and my iMac was 9.2. So now my iPhoto wouldn't work. I went to iPhoto Library organizer.

I needed iDvd, but since my iMac is newer, I didn't have iDvd on it. I installed iLife 11. I shouldn't have installed the iPhoto part because now my iPhoto wouldn't work since iLife 11 was 9.1 and my iMac had 9.2. So I used iPhoto Library Manager to create a new library. That was working, but my computer ran out of hard drive room since my original iPhoto had 137 GB of photos. My new iPhoto library had the majority of my pics and the iPhoto now worked with those pics. But now I still had all of those original pics in my hard drive. I thought that by getting rid of the original iPhoto on the iPhoto Library Manager I would get rid of all of those original pics. I now have no access to them but they are in my hard drive and I can't do much with my iMac because it is all clogged up with those original pics - I think. How do I get rid of my original iPhoto pics out of my hard drive?

What system are you running?  If it's Mt. Lion go to the App Store and sign in with the Apple ID you used to purchase the Mac.  Go to Purchases and download iPhoto again. The current version is 9.4.3.
If you're unable to download iPhoto from the App Store you can reomstall iPhoto from the iLife 11 disk and  update it from the Apple Downloads website  to the highest version you can get to (I was able to update all the way to 9.4.3 via the updaters). Then if iPhoto can't open the library  use iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild it and it will rebuild it compatible with your version of iPhoto via this iPLM tutorial: Fat Cat Software - iPhoto Library Manager Help - Downgrading a library to an earlier version of iPhoto

I have Photoshop CS2 for the MAC and it stopped working on my MAC. I recently bought a new MAC, an IMAC and it doesn't work on that either. There appears to be no way to contact Adobe. What do I do? Thanks, Ed

That because the activation servers were retired. Now for the good news:
Adobe has provided a non-activation version of Photoshop CS2 free of charge for their CS2 license holders.
Download the Mac version of Photoshop (not the suite) and copy down the serial number next to it.  Do not use your original serial number or cs2 disc.
Download Acrobat 7 and CS2 products
Uh... one more thing CS2 is PPC only.  OSX 10.6.8 has Rosetta to run legacy PPC products. 10.7 and above will not.
    Good luck,

  • Has anyone had any luck returning there iMac w/ Lion? I couldn't even reconnect back to the iternet tonight w/o restarting my new iMac....  Looks like folks have been having this problem for months

Has anyone had any luck returning their iMac w/ Lion? I couldn't even reconnect back to the iternet tonight w/o restarting my new iMac....  Looks like folks have been having this problem for months & months .. The Apple tech told me that all I could do is wait for Apple to come up with a fix... Got a new router this week so that isnt' it.  Would I be better off w/o this until Apple gets their act together?  I downloaded the combo update 10.7.3 & it helped for about a day...  yesterday I still had to manually reset the connection but now it's resorting back to disconnectiong w/o fully going into sleep mode first.  Sorry to say this is a major lemon.  Help!

Seems unfair... I thought I was probalby having a router problem...  got a new router this week. Thst's when we realized we have a computer problem.  My next door nieghbor got zero sleep staying up all night while trying to help us figure out what the problem could be. He said if it were him he would have returned the iMac / Lion.  Got the new iMac w/ Lion for Christmas but didn't realize until this week that Apple is the problem....  Hard to believe that Apple just has kept on selling this like ... oh  No problem!  Can't stay on the internet... but will sell you another one today!  I'm getting mad...  It's not every day we spend that kind of money on a computer .  & ALL they can give us is that LOUSY Lion combo update.  I can't even stay connected long enough to make a vitamin order with Puritan's Pride...  & then the disconnection wipes out my cart... so I have to  start over. When are they going to fix this!   'Not feeling very positive'.  I feel like Apple KNOWINGLY sold my husband a defective... system.  14 days... oh please...

Will the new (thin) iMacs have a VESA mount kit?
I have my current iMac mounted on the wall, on an arm. It's the perfect setup for me. Will I be able to upgrade and keep this setup?

Looking through the tech specs, I couldn't find any mention of a mount:

Change your settings in Sharing preferences, for one, and remove the server out of the Finder's sidebar. Obviously, this is the result of transfering all your other computer's preferences to your new computer.

  • Does the new (2012) 21.5 inch iMac have a security slot on the back so a cable can be attached?

Other iMacs had a slot on the back where a cable lock could be attached.  Do the new iMacs have this?  I can't seem to find a picture of the back near the power cord anywhere.

Go to Apple's Website, look at the specs for the iMac. Then go to the Final Cut Studio page on their site, and look at the system requirements. If they meet, then yes. If not, then no.

  • Have hardware problems associated with the new 27 inch iMac been addressed?

I realize that this question may have been answered on another iMac post, but my wife and I thought we would quickly post the following question just in case there are some similarly quick answers:
We are thinking about acquiring one of the new 27 inch i7 iMacs. However, several initial problems have been reported with the new 27 inch iMac, e.g. screen problems, startup problems, etc.
According to Macworld (about 2-3 months ago), Apple finally acknowledged these hardware problems.
How do we know that acquiring one of the new 27 inch iMacs is a safe bet now…? Meaning, have these problems been addressed…? Has there been another announcement from Apple saying that these manufacturing processes/problems have been satisfactorily addressed…?
    Thanks in advance!

I bought one two weeks ago; 27" i5. No problems found.

  • Should all memory slots on my imac have the same amount of memory

should all memory slots on my imac have the same amount of memory

For your model, that would mean to match them horizontally; in newer iMacs with vertical RAM installation, they should be matched: slot 1 + 3, and slots 2 + 4 (which, oddly enough, will result in the same picture if your check the RAM in system info).

  • TS3276 I have recently had a problem with one of my hotmail accounts, some sort of virus sending random emails to people in my address book. Hotmail advised me to change my password for that account, which I did. Why won't mail recognise the new password?

I have recently had a problem with one of my hotmail accounts, some sort of virus sending random emails from my address book. Hotmail advised me to delete all contacts and change the password for that account, which I did on my laptop running windows XP. The change was successful and I was able to send and receive emails with no problem. I then had to change the account password on my iPhone 4s, which I did and it too was successful but when I came to change the password on my iMac, running the latest version of Lion it would not recognise the new password. I have tried to remove the account details and re-install but every time I go to add new account my old details are in the box. This is very frustrating as I use my iMac for all my profects and I need to access my email. Please help.

    hi guys,
I had already deleted all reference to the hotmail account in question from the keychain access app, I have also tried to delete and re-instal the account details from within mail. The icon in the side bar dissapears but when I go to Add Account, the old account details are in the new account box. I then input my new password but am told that the server does not recognise it. If I access hotmail via google on the iMac I can get into my account with no problems. I am thinking there must be some other form of security system within the mac software that is blocking the new password. This is driving me nuts. I have been trying to resolve this for the last two days. Thank you for your advise anyway.

  • System crashing when I make a new folder, do I have the correct advice?

Hi all, I'd greatly appreciate any help if anyone can offer any advice about the issues I'm having? I'll try and be as clear as possible about what is happening, but I'm not 100% sure myself!
I'm on an iMac running the original OS X 10.4.11 which the machine came with. A few days ago I had my Nikon camera hooked up with a USB (which I do regularly), and I created a new folder on the desktop to drop some images in. As soon as I named my new folder and clicked away all of the icons on my desktop disappeared. I can't remember exactly what happened at that point but the screen was flicking from all blue, to my desktop again, to all blue, to desktop again. Sometimes the desktop had a loading animation on it too, no icons, just the dock, my background and the loading animation. It stayed like this for ages and eventually I had to switch off at the back as my cursor wouldn't show.
So when I restarted I got the start-up sound as normal, then when my desktop and dock appeared the whole process started again. No icons showing, just the flicking from blue screen to desktop, then eventually settling on the loading animation over my desktop for a long time.
At this point I call Apple support and describe what's above. They have told me that if I use the disk that came with my iMac and do the following my problem should be solved.
    Apparently I should:
    - Insert the disc while the machine is on.
    - Shutdown and reboot.
    - When I hear the chime hold down C for 2/3 minutes, then follow the reinstall operation.
However after leaving my machine on for several hours with the empty desktop and loading animation I came back into the room to find my desktop back to normal with all the icons there! I worked frantically trying to get some emails done and to back up some files, then after some time created a new folder on the desktop again and as I feared everything I described above happened again!
To cut a long story short all of the problems above occurred again, and the desktop eventually went back to normal again. Now I'm using the machine and it's working fine, but I'm not going to try making another folder again just yet!
I would have tried the reinstall already, but the disk is at another address so I'm waiting for it to be mailed to me. In the mean time I thought I would ask if anyone else had experienced this issue, or knew what it was?
I'm also concerned about doing the reinstall, will the contents of my hard drive be safe? I would back up, but don't have the storage for everything. One of the reasons I want to get everything running smoothly is so I can install my new copy of Snow Leopard and hook up Time Capsule.
Hope you can offer some advice, apologies for the lengthy post!
    Many thanks.

Cough up the money for a backup drive.
If it isn't backed up ... you do not have it.
Here are two utilities for making a complete backup of your internal hard drive. I've recommend using one of these so that you can create a bootable system on your external hard drive. ( PPC require a firewire connected drive. ) Once created, you can run your system from the external drive. Hold down the option key on your keyboard then power on your machine. This will bring you in startup manager click on the drive image you wish to boot then click on the arrow key to the right.

"SuperDuper is the wildly acclaimed program that makes recovery painless, because it makes creating a fully bootable backup painless."

You need an external Firewire drive to boot a PowerPC Mac computer.
I recommend you do a google search on any external harddrive you are looking at.
I bought a low cost external drive enclosure. When I started having trouble with it, I did a google search and found a lot of complaints about the drive enclosure. I ended up buying a new drive enclosure. On my second go around, I decided to buy a drive enclosure with a good history of working with Macs. The chip set seems to be the key ingredient. The Oxford line of chips seems to be good. I got the Oxford 911.
The latest the hard drive enclosures support the newer serial ata drives. The drive and closure that I list supports only older parallel ata.

    FireWire 800/400 + USB2, + eSATA 'Quad Interface'
    save a little money interface:
    FireWire 400 + USB 2.0
