Do the new monitors come with a built in microphone??

Since buying the new monitor from Apple recently, I have tried facetiming with friends and recently, a friend couldn't hear me.  Does that mean the new monitors don't have a built in microphone??  If they do, why couldn't my friend hear me?

If you purchased the Apple Thunderbolt Display, it has a microphone built in, go into your system preferences click on the sound icon select input the select your monitor.

Does the new imac come with a cd/dvd player/burner?

It's $80.00. You can buy other externals for less, I think, but only the Apple one will work with Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows and any other applications that will only work with an "internal" optical drive.
If this isn't important for you, then explore less expensive alternatives. Check out OWC for example.

  • Does the newer Macmini come with iDVD?

I bought the new Mac mini with Yosemite and couldnt find iDVD®
Did Apple not include it on the new machines?

iDVD has been discontinued for over 2 years now.  If you have a need to create video DVDs you'll need to purchase an external optical drive (see OWC.com) and get iDVD.
If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailier like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Softwareor eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  Select Size = Medium or Large.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • The new FCS2 comes with a training CD?

    Hi,
I was told that the olf FCS was ship with a training Dvd that help a lot to lear how to work with FCS. I would like to know if te new version of Final Cut Studio 2 will have that? Does anyone knows about that?
    Thanks a lot,

I was slightly dissapointed to find that the several huge books inside the box just covered FCP, and not the other apps. I have never really used motion before and I was hoping for a nice thick book that could teach me. I have been using the training material on Lynda.com and its pretty good, taught me all of FCP5. The guy who does the courses, Larry Jordan, is a particularly good teacher and you can email him with the odd question and he is pretty helpful....

  • Do the new iPods come with the 1.2 update on them now?

If so, is it advisable to hook it to a computer with Itunes 6 and the last stand alone update to restore it before hooking it to the computer with Itunes 7.02? Does the 1.2 format work better when it comes installed on the iPod already? My daughter is getting the 80gb video iPod for Christmas. After reading all the problems on here, it worries me that her iPod won't work well with 1.2 on it.
HP Pavillion Slimlines7600n PC   Windows XP   XP Pro Media Center

I wouldn't take any risks (by connecting it to an older version of iTunes). Some iPods have had to be restored after doing that, simply because the older version of iTunes may not understand some of the iPod's files.
Of course there are going to be many people with problems in these forums. This is a support forum. No one comes here with working iPods or iTunes, nor do they post that everything is working fine. For the vast majority of people, the latest version of iTunes 7 works fine.

  • Do new computers come with OS X redemption code?

I just purchased a factory refurbished iMac from the Apple Online Store.
The specs from the online store said it was eligible for the up-to-date program.
Look at the second line under any of these refurbished Apple computers: Eligible for OS X Mountain Lion Up-to-Date Program
    http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac
Unfortunately, this unit did not come with a Mountain Lion redemption code.
It did come with 10.8 installed and then I was able to update to 10.8.2 which is fine.
The problem now, is that the Apple Store says I do not own a copy of Mountain Lion as it is not in my Apple ID in the store.
To reinstall Mountain Lion, they said I could use the recovery mode and didn't need Mountain Lion to show in my Apple ID.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
    The above will not work.
When I get to the point in the recovery mode, it asks me for my Apple ID and password.
I have contacted the up-to-date program and they told me my iMac is not eligible.
Well, the Apple website says it is.
See the refurbished items under "Qualifying Purchases" here:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/uptodate/
I then contacted Tech Support and they made a case number but told me to contact the Apple iTunes Store.
The Apple iTunes store told me they can't do anything and told me to contact the up-to-date program.
This seems to be a Circle Jerk as I keep getting the run around.
I contacted the up-to-date program again and they said my iMac was not eligible.
I contacted Tech Support and told them about the run around and told me to contact Customer Support.
Even with the help of customer support, the up-to-date program keeps telling them that my computer is not eligible but will not give any reasons.
In the old days, we used to get the discs with our new or refurbished computers. We own the OS X that came with the computer.
Now apparently, I don't own it and can't download it again for some reason.
Do I, or do I not, own a copy of Mountain Lion?
    If not, why not?
I realize it is only $19.99 but I don't think I should have to purchase it as every OS came with all the prior Apple computers I have purchased in the past.
Do the new computers come with a redemtion code for Mountain Lion and/or, does Mountain Lion show up in your purchases in the App Store on the new computer?

Your Mountain Lion came pre-installed as such it is not a separate product rather part of your computer purchase. You cannot download Mountain Lion from the App Store.
Did you register your computer after receiving it? That is generally the process by which the computer becomes associated with your Apple ID.
You have never owned the OS. You have always had nothing more than a license to use it. That is generally true for most of the software you have purchased.
If you want to purchase a copy of Mountain Lion from the App Store, then log into the store using a computer with Snow Leopard or Lion installed under your Apple ID. Purchase and download the Mountain Lion installer. When the download has completed, quit the installer. Put it in your Downloads folder or transfer to a USB flash drive for safekeeping.
Getting Mountain Lion via a redemption coupon lets you download Mountain Lion from the App Store. The license for the App Store version versus the one for the pre-bundled version is not the same. For example, the App Store version may be installed on more than one computer that you own. The pre-bundled version can only be installed on the computer with which it came.

  • Does the new computers come set up to use floppy disc

Does the new computers come with floppy disc use capability

    Preed, welcome to the forum.
It is difficult to find a newer computer with a 3.5" floppy drive.  In fact, most companies don't even offer them as an option.  Personally, I don't want any more components in the case than necessary.  I purchased an external 3.5" floppy drive.  Since I have only needed it a few times, it works fine for me.

  • Normally if anyone buys an apple product (mac) , it comes with a built-in-apps that should be considered ( built in ) , Then why when the mac faces a mistake or an error that forces it to format , these apps don't show up ? etc : iMovie , garageband

normally if anyone buys an apple product with a specific model (mac) , it comes with a built-in-apps that should be considered ( built in ) , Then why when the mac faces a mistake or an error that forces it to format , these apps don't show up ? etc : iMovie , garageband ...
considered it should be '' BUILT IN APPS '' ??
So does it really make sense that i should buy these apps again after i already payed an extra amount of money in the first place to get a model that includes them ??
after formatting my mac these apps should be there like its a whole new device that i opened !!!
I hope anyone with any useful information can share his thoughts or help with further steps .

Has anyone successfully connected an AEBS to the new Panasonic TVs with built-in WiFi?  If so, please describe the requirements and process.  (TV subscription is through DirecTV and ISP is TWC.)  Thanks.

If you wish to use the cellular capabilities of a device, you will need a SIM (unless the carrier uses CDMA which doesn't use SIMs) and you will have to pay a cell carrier. No cell company provides service for free. The only way you will get free Internet is via WiFi to a free and open WiFi access point, as sometimes is offered in public buildings or by some businesses.
