Do the photos stay in aperture?

Hello, a dumb question probably.
I imported some photos into aperture on my imac and am delighted to see they have appeared on my macbook.
A couple of questions.
Can I choose some older photos from my library to do this?
Are the ones that have downloaded to my macbook here for good or will the dissapear after 30 days? (I don't mind if they go from icloud but would prefer them to stay on my macs)

I see the same thing as Boghetta.  I use Aperture, not iPhoto.  Once my photo stream hit 1000 and I started taking pictures with my iPhone, the very first pictures in the stream deleted, as expected.
BUT, I have 'Automatic Import' checked under the photostream settings in Aperture (same as what one can do in in iPhoto, I believe).  This feature creates monthly projects called "Oct 2011 Photo Stream," "Nov 2011 Photo Stream," etc.  and pics from the stream automatically end up here.  BUT now that pics are deleting from my Photo Stream, their imported counterparts are ALSO deleting from within these projects.  Even if I move early photos out of these projects and into my own named projects/folders, they disappear as new content is added to my stream.
This is a major problem for me.  The only fix is to turn off Photo Stream and go back to manually importing my iPhone pictures :-/   And worry that all existing pictures that have auto-imported from my stream since Oct. 14 are going to vanish someday.  Hence, I am hesitant to take pictures with my iPhone (with wifi turned on) until this behavior is resolved.

  • Can't see event titles or project titles when looking at photos in the photo view in Aperture 3?

    Howdy,
I recently switched from iPhoto 11 to Aperture 3. The only drawback so far is I am unable to view Project Titles when I am viewing all of my photos in the photo view. In iPhoto, I often would look at all of my photos in photo view while displaying the event titles. Is this possible in Aperture? Also, is there a simple way to view the file names underneath the photos in photo view instead of seeing the version name?

Hi Greg.  Welcome to Aperture and the Apple Aperture users forum.

You should set up all seven of the Metadata Overlays to meet your needs.  (iPhoto is designed as a turn-key operation for those who prefer their meals prepared; Aperture is a kitchen for those who like to cook.)

Have you looked at Projects View (click "Projects" at the top of the Library tab of the Inspector)?  You can group your Projects by Folder or by Year, and you can sort them in a number of ways.  There is no information pane which shows up on Aperture as you scroll (as there is in iPhoto).
Projects View, imho, add tremendous functionality to Aperture.  You can add descriptions to your Projects (and these are included in searches) via the Projects Information window ("{Shift}+i" with a Project selected.)

  • How do I make iPod Classic import (sync) photos via iTunes so that the photos stay in order by filename and can then be viewed as a slideshow in the correct order?

I carefully number my iPod bound photos so that they are in a desired order by filename.  When I sync the photos to my iPod Classic they are not in the same order.  A typical filename would be:  001 001 IMG-3489.jpg followed by 001 002 IMG-3478.jpg.  Windows uses the first seven characters to order the files and does not care what follows the first seven so long as the first seven are not duplicated within the folder.  My iPod ignores that convention.  HELP! PLEASE!  I want to view my slideshows in the correct order.
    Thanks

Does both your Windows and Macbook iTunes have the same library of songs?
if it  does then, much easier to proceed, else try to load the Macbook with the same library as Windows.
Note that only one of the Macbook USB port is good for iPod Classic, the other is too slow and may cause timeout, and I would suggest disconnect all other USB devices, while you Restore or Sync the iPod Classic.
Connect the iPod to the Mac, (if iTunes launch, please close it back.)
Use Disk Utility -> select the iPod Device->First Aid->Repair (use option FAT32)
After the Repair complete, eject the iPod.
    Connect back to the Mac
When iTunes launch, Restore the iPod when Prompted, (use FAT32)
    Sync your library.
    Good Luck!

  • My iPhone is nearly full with photos, will the photos stay on iCloud if I delete them off the device?

And if iCloud does store them, how would I be able to view them?

I do not understand the point of icloud.
I too am out of internal space on my device.
1.) If I delete the photos from my device, do they also delete from the icloud? Are they even truly stored there?
2.) How can I view the photos that are on the icloud?
3.) When using icloud to sync to another device (my computer), like syncing my photos using Photo Stream, can I save them on my computer that way??
4.) Can you back up an iphone 4 to a pc without using itunes?

  • Why does the image not open in Elements when I opt for Edit in Photoshop Elements 11 from the Photos tab in Aperture?

With an image in Aperture, when I got Photos one of the options offered is "Edit in Elements Photoshop 11", but although selecting this opens Elements, there is no image and it is necessary to open the image in the normal way from within Elements.  Other plugins, e.g. from Topaz work superbly from within Aperture.  I am puzzled to know the reason, and in particular if there is any setting in either Aperture of Elements that need to be attended to.  I would be very grateful for any suggestions.
    Barry Willcock

Hi Frank, and many thanks.   I can now get the picture into Elements, and work on it.  However, when I have finished, I save it (giving it another name that I can recognise if the amendments are slight) it puts the file back into the same folder, but I have then to import it into the Aperture library in order to see it back in Aperture.  Not a big problem, but an interesting one.
    Again, many thanks

  • Can aperture 3.6 read from the photos app library?

when I try to select the photos library for aperture it is greyed out. I don't want to store two whole libraries on my computer.

No, Aperture cannot read a Photos Library.
I've no idea what the rest of your post means, sorry.

  • How to add uploaded photos (not from aperture) in Mobileme Gallery to a project

I shared some photos using a mobileme gallery where I allowed friends to upload their photos to the gallery.  Now the gallery exists with both the photos from my aperture library (and project) and my friends photos (which appear in aperture with a little symbol).
I would like to have the photos that were uploaded by my friends to be added to a new project without moving or erasing them in the mobileme gallery.  Is there a simple way to do this? I know if I select photos from a project and drag and drop them to another project aperture moves the photos but I don't know if this is how aperture handles mobileme galleries in the inspector.
    Jeff

Just drag an image from the MobileMe Gallery to a project it will copy the image, not move it. Aperture will move images that are stored locally in the library but since these images uploaded by friends are only stored on the MobileMe servers, Aperture will make a copy when you drag them to a project.

  • Where are the photos in the organizer located?

When I put photos in the organizer, does the organizer make copies of the originals? Where are they located on the hard drive?

    coolmanoh wrote:

You don't put any photo in the organizer : the location on the drive of the media files and their properties are written in the catalog database together with a small thumbnail. The photos stay where you have put them.
If you are 'getting photos or videos' from camera or card reader, you are using an accessory module (the downloader) to upload from your camera card to your computer before the photos are registered in the organizer catalog. You can check the location where the files are written in your computer in the Edit / preference menu of the organizer. You can specify where you want the photos to be stored on your computer.
After the photos are downloaded from your card, the organizer automatically reads the location and properties of those files and writes that info in the database.
If you are 'getting photos from files or folders', there is no copy, the updating of the database is made from the already present files on your computer.
It's up to you to chose if you want to use the downloader or simply use other ways to get the photos from your card to your computer.

  • Ken Burns: how to avoid cutting some part of the photo ?

I like the ken Burns effect.
Unfortunately on some photo, the face of the subject are cutted using that effect.
There's a way to 'mitigate' that or, better, how to setup the photo (i use Aperture) to avoid that problem ?

    thanks for the clarification
hoping not being too ot: i use aperture, may you please explain how to create a new album without create new master photo (to save space on my disk) and use the photo resized, as said to 16:9, on my apple tv ?
if i don't create new master photo and create new version when syncronized the new version photo i loose 16:9 formatting on apple tv (hope is clear ).

  • Photos stacked in Aperture fully revealed in Photos app on iPad

After syncing a few albums created in Aperture 3.0.3 with my iPad, I notice that all photos contained in each stack appear in the Photos app. Naturally, I'd like only the primary photo in the stack to be visible in the Photos app.
Interestingly, these same albums are synched to my AppleTV and show only the primary photo in each stack.
Anyone else notice this? Is there a workaround other than reworking my Aperture albums?
    Thanks...
    Lew

No, I'm referring to the photo that is visible when a number of photos are stacked within Aperture. This could be 2 or 10 or more photos that are similar. After creating a stack, I can promote one of the photos to be visible when the stack is collapsed.
An album in Aperture can contain any number of stacks. I would like to see only the photo viewable in Aperture on my iPad after synch. Now, on my iPad I'm seeing all the photos contained in each stack...not really what I want.
As mentioned in my first message, it's implemented correctly on my AppleTV. I'm seeing only the primary stack photo; the others are hidden.

  • New user here.  Trying to import iPhoto 9.4.2 libraries into Aperture 3.4.3 as referenced files. When accessing File Import Library, it finds the iPhoto library just fine, but then imports it as Master files. No option that I can find to leave the photos

New user here.  Trying to import iPhoto 9.4.2 libraries into Aperture 3.4.3 as referenced files. When accessing File>Import>Library, it finds the iPhoto library just fine, but then imports it as Master files. No option that I can find to leave the photos in place on the file system.  All the literature says their should be an option to choose, but I never get that option.  What?

All the literature says their should be an option to choose, but I never get that option.
That has been true for the previous Aperture versions. Now Aperture simply treats the original image files exactly as they are in the imported library. Referenced images will stay referenced, managed will be imported as managed. But you can always relocate the imported managed images afterwards by using "File > Relocate".

  • I imported a COMPLETED book project into Aperture 3, only to discover that  the resolution of all the photos has been reduced to totally unacceptable levels

I imported a COMPLETED book project into Aperture 3, only to discover that  the resolution of all the photos has been reduced to totally unacceptable levels.  Any easy solution?
    Steps:
    1. I finished an Aperture 2 (Two) book project and tried to submit it to Apple for printing. At that point I learned (belatedly, obviously) that Apple no longer accepts books from Aperture 2. I don't know how I would have known to even ask if Aperture 2 had been sunsetted as far as book projects go.
    2. So I tried to download Aperture 3 ($79.99), only to be told that I couldn't download Aperture 3.5.1 because I was still running OSX 10.8.x. So I read current reviews for OSX 10.9.x, and ...
    3. Downloaded and installed the current operating system (about a 3-hours process for me).  OSX 10.9.2, here we are!
    4. Then I returned to the Apple Store, found, and purchased Aperture 3.  [For safety's sake, it would sure be nice to have a .dmg file I could copy and file away.  I lost a perfectly legal and good copy of Adobe's Photoshop Elements 3 years ago because I wasn't smart enough to make a safety copy, and when my iMac crashed (fried electronic components), I was left with a copy of the software that wouldn't run, and couldn't be verified as legit.]
    5. When Aperture 3 finished installing, I found and imported my COMPLETED Aperture 2 book project, which import seemed to proceed nominally -- the right number of pages, the right content on those pages, that sort of thing -- until I started looking more carefully at the pictures themselves.  All of them, about 300 of them, have been imported into an Aperture 3 book project in such a reduced resolution that they are fuzzy at the size the book will be printed.  Screen-capture of just one example (at 100% viewer setting):
I don't know what to do at this point to correct the problem, short of going through the entire book project, copy the custom captions (since those go away when you "delete" photo content), delete the photo, re-insert the photo, and paste back the custom caption.  Lather, rinse, repeat - ~300 times!  An estimated 2-3 hours of additional work.
Or does anyone in this community know either (1) that I did something wrong in the Aperture 2-to-Aperture 3 import (I don't recall being offered any options or choices in the process); or (2) that there is a wholesale one-step solution to my problem?
BTW, I tried to edit my "Product" info, but OSX 10.9.x is not in the pick list.  I am running OSX 10.9.2
    <Re-Titled By Host>

Frank, thanks for your note.  I wrote "COMPLETED" because I had gone to a lot of effort to get the content of the book precisely as I wanted it. I would fully expect to see my level of effort and care matched by functional competence in Aperture 3 to render the book the way I created it.  Too much to ask?
And yes, I upgraded the Aperture 2 Library first.  [Not ALL my tens of 000s of pix, because I use Lightroom selectively for photo editing. But Yes to the Aperture 2 Library.]  That step took a number of minutes, but seemed to work fine (no error messages of any kind).
Then I opened the existing book project in Aperture 3, which followed some "magic-box" process that took a minute or so.  As I said, when that step was done, by all appearances the book was ready to submit for printing - until I examined the photos a little more closely.  You did see the blurry example I included, didn't you? That is what each and every photo looks like.
Text-box content appears to have been rendered pertectly, for the record (including captions).
So, ... is this result something you have heard of before?  Do you know of a one-step solution?  Or am I looking at an extended picture-by-picture fix?

  • Is it possible to see the photo details (CMD+I for e.g. Aperture, ISO etc.) in fullscreen view?

Based on http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1308132?tstart=0 I decided to add each question seperately:
Hello, I'm quite interested in buying Lightroom 5.2. I tried the RC which ran out now. Yet, I have a several questions that I can't really find good conclusive answers to, that I'd like to get answered before buying LR. Please don't write maybe like this or that (assumptions), since I don't want to start my whole workflow and then realize that I have to change everything around, so please answer, if you know for sure that something works and you are, preferably, using that method too.
Is it possible to see the photo details (CMD+I for e.g. Aperture, ISO etc.) in fullscreen view?

Note that if you invoke Full Screen Preview (F) from Grid Mode, then Cycle Info Display (I) doesn't work at all, no matter how many times you press "I":
    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/cylce_info_display_doesnt_always_wor k_in_full_screen_preview
It appears that Adobe originally designed Full Screen Preview to be a special viewing mode of the underlying mode.  So if you invoke Full Screen Preview from Grid Mode, Cycle Info Display doesn't work and the arrow keys work with selections just as they do in regular Grid Mode, not as in Loupe Mode.  But according to employee Becky Sowada, Adobe is reconsidering this design; see the 9/17 thread in this topic:

How to make a photo STAY in the assets panel for future use for In browser editing?
When I delete a photo from a page, it does not stay in the assets panel. My client uses in browser editing daily. Once a week he changes a photo just for a day, then needs the previous photo to replace it. The original photo is not in the asset panel (or folder) for him to choose.
When you upload a photo, it has an arrow in the asset panel. How do you use this as an asset?

Sure ... right mouse click on  your page and choose 'Exclude Page from Menus' :-)
