Do we have Digital to Analog converter with high current output? I need 8 channels and each channel has at least 100mA current output.Thanks!

I have never heard of such a device. You will probably need to follow the D/A with an amplifer for each channel.
What is the voltage range and speed required? Any special protection requirements (such as current limiting)?

Using Air Port for music...do I need a digital to analog converter

After doing a little more digging, I find that using a Toslink cable out of the AirPort Express and into a quality external DAC, and then using RCAs to connect to my pre-amp will get much better results out of my stereo. Evidently the DAC in the AirtPort is not great quality. So, what I'm going to do is hook up the stereo through the AirPort and listen. If it sounds bad, I'll spring for a decent external DAC. Open System Preferences > Displays > select the window for you external monitor > click on the Arrangement tab and check the box next to Mirror Displays. It may be slightly different in Lion, but the idea is the same.

Anyone have an example of a PCI-6250 Digital and Analog Aquistion with Analog Post-Trigger?

We're trying to set up a post trigger data capture of parallel absolute strobed Gurley 17-bit encoder data (ignoring MSB for 16-bit aquisition) with an analog signal that is the output of a torque load cell. The trick is to use the analog signal level as a post-trigger to stop the data aquisition.
1) can the analog signal be recorded and used as the trigger?
2) does anyone have an example using the PCI-6250 (or 6251)

Hi Drewski,
You can use the APFI0 line as an analog trigger for your signal. However, in this case you need to connect your analog signal to both the analog channel you want to acquire at and the APFI0 line.
Assuming you are using LabVIEW,you can check the "Acq&Graph Voltage-Ext Clk-Analog reference.vi" example. This examples uses an external clock but it works also with the internal clock. All you have to do to change the control to onboard clock.

Reading with high impedance output (Keithley 2440)

Hi all,
I am using Keithley 2440 and I am going to charge a capacitor and then measure the voltage of that capacitor to see how fast it discharges BY ITSELF. So I need to set the output to High Impedance and measure the voltage.
But my problem is how I can measure while I set the output to High Impedance. I made a vi to do that. But during discharging, Keithley voltage remains the same as charging. So, obviously I am not using High Impedance correctly.
Is there any tutorial for measuring voltage and/or current at High Impedance output setting?

Yes. I looked at the examples that come from Keithley 24XX deriver (vi attached). I suppose that impedance of voltage measurement is high enough so that it does not affect the capacitor that I am going to do measurement on. So I can use Keithley to just measure the voltage.
But, the problem with all "measurement" examples that I've seen is that you need to set an output level to be able to measure it! Why should I need to set output if I want to measure it?

Fast multi-channel digital to analog converter

I’m a PhD student working in a mechanics laboratory in France (LMT Cachan) and one of the goals of my thesis is to control a hydraulic testing machine using digital image correlation techniques. In order to do this, I need to take a photo of a sample, process it, extract 4 parameters and send them to the testing machine. This process needs to be repeated at a frequency of approximately 80Hz. We need a device to send these values from a Linux computer to the 4 analog entries of the machine (0-10V, 0.5 mA) by coaxial BNC cable. We managed to do this for one channel using an USB connected oscilloscope by sending a continuous current by changing the offset using C++. The problem is that this solution is too slow and has only one channel.
For this we would need a device that has a viable and fast connection (Ethernet, PCI, even USB if recommended) that can send data from a Linux computer (ideally using C++) with a latency of around 1ms, frequency of at least 100Hz, precision of 0.1% and on 4 synchronized analog outputs. Given that I am not particularly specialized in the field of electronics, researching such a device among the large quantity of items produced by your firm proves to be a difficult task.
I would like to know if you have a product that fits our needs and if similar purpose programming has already been done (or could easily be done) to send data from a linux computer to analog outputs (using C++ ideally).

Digital to analog converter

I think this question will be for a tech. I am trying to hook up a converter to a TV that will then be used to transmit the audio from the TV to a device that will send it to a pair of hearing aids. I am using a Gefen TV GTV-DIGAUD-2-AAUD converter. I have hooked this up to my Toshiba at home and it works fine. However, I am trying to use it with a Toshiba DVD/TV combo model # 19SLV411U and it will not send the audio signal to the converter. It is set up the same way as when I used it at home. The only difference is that I'm using a DVD instead of just watching TV. I've tried changing the audio setup in different ways but it still will not work. It says it supports audio sampling frequencies 32, 44.1, 48 and 96khz. Is there another converter that will work? I am trying to use this to demonstrate this hearing aid feature in my office. Will it work with a TV signal rather than a DVD? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

Can I have retriggerable analog out with a single intialization with PC-6711 or PCI-MIO-16XE-10 boards? step triggering available?

i know i can use the counters to make retrigerable pulses, but i want to know if analog output can do this as well.

It sounds like you want to update your analog output channels with a new value or an entire waveform every time you get a trigger signal. It's great that you're already familiar with counters creating retriggerable pulses, because you can use them for the analog output operation.
The analog output channels get updated based on the edges of the update clock. You can use the counters to supply an external update clock. So, if you set up a counter for retriggerable pulse generation, it waits for a trigger signal. When it receives it, it generates a pulse, which you have wired to the analog output update clock. When the analog circuitry sees that edge, the data will be output to the channels.
I answered a similar question regarding this for the posting
"About trigger config". However, I realize that the user had originally posted in the LabVIEW General category, so it doesn't show here. Search the Developer Exchange for "retrigger analog", and you will find it. It discusses this idea as well as attaches a few examples that are currently going through a process of review to eventually be available on the web. There might be some other helpful postings as well.
Another good resource for triggering in general is the NI Developer Zone "Tips and Techniques in DAQ Triggering" document. You can find it by going to the http://www.ni.com/support pages and searching for "daq triggering".

To send your boolean array bit by bit you'll have to enter your array in a For Loop to unindex it.
You could use your counter output, if there's any, to generate the clock for the D/A, if not, you'll have to make it programatically.

Many instrument drivers can be downloaded from NI by going to http://www.ni.com/devzone/idnet/ and selecting "Search for a Driver." In this case, the driver for the VM3608A is not available on the NI web site. This driver is available from VXI Technologies, the manufacturer of the VM3608A. You can download the driver by going to http://www.vxitech.com/download.asp and selecting the appropriate instrument driver.

Problem with high impedance output signals

i`m read all the document in forum.

that page note that if you are using HDMI DDC pass-through, you will need to set the corresponding FPGA pins (C13 and A13, D9 and C9) to
high impedance in your constraints file or else they will load the bus
but I can not set FPGA(XC6SLX45-CSG324) pins (C13 and A13, D9 and C9) to high impedance in my constraints file.
I am continue to waste my time to find a method over 2 month.

Quality capturing with FCP & an analog converter?

i am making VHS(PAL) -> DVD transfers using a Canopus ADVC110 analog converter with iBook G4 with Tiger. previously i was using iMovie HD in capturing which worked fine and gave me good quality DV files, but since i needed more editing possibilities i turned to FCP. i was surprised to find out that it looks like i cannot maintain the quality nowhere near where i've used to since FCP (i have FCP 4 only unfortuntely) only produces me small-sized Quicktime Movie files with mediocre quality compared to the huge but good-looking DV files i got with iMovie. the quality of these is simply way too low for me. and i cannot use iMovie HD for capturing and then import the files to FCP because FCP 4 doesn't understand iMovie HD projects. now am i just being stupid and missing something with the FCP settings here? or is updating my FCP a solution?
i don't need to work with DV cameras, just with VHS->converter->iBook combination.
i'd be very grateful for quick tips/solutions.

A few points: [cliff notes version: get a monitor]
1. Without a TV (aka NTSC/PAL Video Monitor) to see your footage sent out via Firewire, you have no way of know what your footage looks like. QT may do a better job of representing DV stream files, but it in no way means they are of higher quality.
2. Capturing in Final Cut Pro IS computationally intensive. Here's why. DV stream, (the stuff iMovie uses) is a direct write out of the muxed (mixed audio & video) as it is written on the tape by your camera. FCP (or more accurately Quicktime) takes that Muxed stream and separates the audio and video into individual streams IN REAL TIME. If the computer can not keep up, dropped frames or corrupted files are the result.
3. This demuxing does not change the QUALITY of the video. The file started as ones and zeros and remains as ones and zeros. There is nothing to convert at this point - it still is a direct digital transfer - just pulling apart the strings.
4. Playing these more complex Quicktime files places greater demands on your system than iMovie's DV stream.
5. The people who wrote FCP recognized that displaying a high data rate file on a limited computing platform may overwhelm that platform. So, in response, they designed FCP to create a low resolution proxy for the display.
6. Why do this? Now listen closely .... because FCP is designed as a Professional application and professionals (or serious dilettantes) will invest in the proper equipment to monitor the audio and video components of their work This is how a SOFTWARE based editing solution can compete with very, very expensive hardware based systems. FCP is quite scalable. It will run on the minimum configurations but really works much better with more horsepower.
Now, the limited ram, video speed, hard drive capacity and frontside bus speed of your computer is being tested by this process and is not holding up well. A second hard drive to be a dedicated media drive will help. More RAM will help. A faster CPU will help. A machine that is configured from the beginning to run these kind of applications will help.
I'm not trying to be mean here, just trying to explain the complexity of the situation. I really do hold the Apple marketing people responsible for over selling the program. It is NOT rocket science, but does demand a much greater understanding of technology than most people I know to able to actually grasp.

Apple TV great on older DVI TV w/ simple digital to analog audio converter

I bought a Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) for $59.95 to convert optical audio (via Toslink) to RCA analog stereo jacks.
Device I purchased was a DAC-2016 S/PDIF to Analog RCA cnvt.
Very compact!
Also, bought a Belkin Toslink cable for $19.95 at the local Apple Store.
Works perfectly with my HDTV that only has DVI and Component inputs (plus coax, component, etc.)
I just bought it last month.
Googled it a minute ago. Price seems to have gone back up to $89.95. (List price is $99.95.) Not available right now. Maybe Apple TV caused it to sell out.
Let me know if any of you can find this item in stock anywhere or have another solution. I have a friend who has an older HDTV with DVI inputs.

Finally realized that it was the Gefen box not working!?!?!? I went to the store and asked them to try it out and they had trouble too. Another Gefen was tried and it worked. They all said they had never seen a defective one before. Thanks anyway for your help. It was appreciated!
