Do we need separate itunes accts?

Do we need separate itunes accounts ?
My wife and I share an iTunes account amongst my iphone, and her iphone and ipad.   Since we added her iphone, all devices receive Txt Msgs intended for her, and when others FaceTime me, her iphone and ipad ring.
Do we need separate itunes accounts ?

You can continue to share a common Apple ID for purchases in iTunes, but many use separate Apple ID for iCloud to prevent this. You can still use the same on if you want. We have 4 devices, 3 phones and an iPad mini that share an Apple ID for iCloud. You just go into the settings area for iMessage and FaceTime for the devices and set the Send and Receive. For the phones, just set the actual phone number for the device, and for the iPad you can set the email address. The alternative is to set up new Apple IDs for iCloud for each device.

  • One Apple ID, 2 iMacs...separate iTune accts?

Our family has one Apple ID and 2 iMacs. Can we have 2 separate iTunes accts, one for each iMac, w separate ID's? .... or must we sign in on both iMacs using my apple ID to purchase & redeem?  Just trying to keep 'mine' and 'theirs' separate.

You can do whichever you prefer.

  • Need different iTunes acct on my ipad2

I have two itune accts. Whenever I purchase an app on ipad2 the wrong acct appears with no choice to change it. When connected to my iMac it states I only have 3 computerized authorized (if that makes any difference), which I don't think includes my iPad 2 as it would be number 4. How can I choose the acct my apps are purchased in?

Somehow years ago I created an iTunes acct and forgot about it. Then when I began using iTunes later i created a new acct forgetting I already had one. Upon talking with apple support, they tell me if I delete one of the accts I will lose any apps I paid for using that acct. I have used both accts as I only recently realized I have two accts.

*How to use multiple iPods with one computer*
The Apple support document How to use multiple iPods with one computer suggests a number of ways. I use method two (Sync with selected playlists) with a slight twist. Rather than regular playlists I set the grouping field to indicate which users should receive which tracks and create smart playlists based on the content of this field.
    e.g.
"Alice's Tracks" is "Grouping contains Alice" + "Kind contains audio"
"Bob's Videos" is "Grouping contains Bob" + "Kind does not contain audio"
Tracks that both Alice & Bob want on their iPods have the grouping set to "Alice/Bob"
    etc.
I currently manage our family's five iPods using this system, each getting a different selection to suit their tastes and the capacity of their iPod. An advantage of using the grouping field is that it is stored in file tags (for non-wav audio files anyway) so that it is relatively easy to recreate the playlists should the iTunes library get trashed. Also useful if you move files about manually as playlist membership is preserved when you delete & re-import the tracks.

  • Do my husband and I need separate itunes accounts to correctly sync our iphones?

We have been using the same itunes/apple id to sync and backup our iphones without any problems.  Today was my first problem with helping my husband set up his new iphone 4s.  An AT&T salesperson said we needed our own accounts.  Anyone know if that is true?  AT&T transfered my husband's contacts to his new phone but I'm afraid to plug it into the computer because earlier today I ended up putting all of my contacts on his phone and couldn't find his.
    Thank you!

It probably means that only one of you can use iCloud or at least sync calender/contacts with it. I would guess that you could manually manage the other phone as you have before.

  • More than 1 ipod, need seperate itune acct

can someone help me out, I need to find a way to open a seperate itune acct

No need. Each iPod is recognized by iTunes and has its own preferences. Create the playlists you want to use for iPod #1, connect the iPod, in preferences click on sync selected playlists - and select the playlists you created. Disconnect that iPod. Create some new playlists and repeat the process for iPod #2.
You may want to include a special character in the Playlist names to differentiate between iPod #1 playlists and iPod #2 playlists. Prior to iTunes 5, I put • or ? at the beginning of my playlist names to keep them organized. Now I have a folder for each iPod and I put the characters at the end of the playlist names.

Why, if it told you you have insufficient space on your computer, would it suggest making more space available on your phone?
At a guess, you have insufficient space on your phone. Installing software will typically require more space than the final size of the software, perhaps even twice or three times as much, for the installation process. You can easily dump some videos or music temporarily, and then synch them back in afterwards.

Sign her out of the iTunes copy that's on the machine, then you can sign in with your account credentials.

I have an itunes account.  However, I need to copy music onto a different iPod than my own.  How do I do that?  Do I need to create a separate iTunes account for that iPod?

An account means an iTunes Store account which is an online service.  Do you mean that, or do you mean a library on a computer?
iOS devices can only be synced to one iTunes library at a time.  You can sync that iPod to your account but it will wipe everything currently on it.
iTunes: Syncing media content to iOS devices and iPod - http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201253 - detailed example: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18860187#18860187
If you use manual syncing, you can sync items from more than one iTunes library to your iPod. (You can sync iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad with only one iTunes library.) When manually managing content, you can add content from multiple libraries to your iPod or iPad. Even when manually managing music, some content may be available from only one library at time. This includes all content on iPhone and video content on iPod and iPad. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12113  and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1202
I could post another 2 pages of stuff trying to cover every possible scenario.  It would help if you let us know exactly what you want to do.  Are you trying to sync just a few songs (like giving them to a friend which is something iTunes is deliberately set up not to do)?

You can use the same account to set up as many devices as you like.

  • Can a family have multiple iClouds, with 1 iTunes acct?

We are a family of 4 apple users. I want us to share the same iTunes acct with one way to purchase items, but I want us each to have our own iCloud login for backing up our devices. How can this be done?
Also, would we be able to access or see each others i

Yes, in fact it's recommended that you have separate iCloud accounts.  You can have separate iCloud accounts and still share the same iTunes ID; it does not need to be the same as the ID used for iCloud.
To create separate iCloud accounts, each person should go to Settings>iCloud on their iOS device and sign in with a separate ID to create their account.  If they have multiple devices, then can create the account on one device, then go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with the same ID on their other devices.

  • Can I download two different itunes accts on the same computer

Can I downloan two different Itunes accounts on the same computer under different users???  I have 3 Iphones and they don't want to share an itunes acct.

Yes. Launch iTunes with the Shift key held down as needed, or use separate Windows user accounts on the computer.
