Do we still need iSync now?

Before when I hooked up my ipod on my old machine, iSYnc opened and synced contacts etc. Now, it does not see my ipod. Is this normal? Do we sync through itunes? If so, what does Isync do for me if anything? Thanks for your input.

You are right. iPod syncing is handled by iTunes.
iSync is used for syncing addresses / calendar events to phones and other devices.

That usually means that y ohave to add a valid payment to your account. Unless you initially set up the account withoeur a credit card

You probably can, but this type of configuration is not recommended or supported by Apple.
Two cautions if you want to try this:
1) The Time Capsule has to be configured to "Join" your existing wireless network in this type of setup...and to do that, you must know the exact type of wireless security that your network is using.
2) Backups are likely going to take twice as long. The wireless signal must travel from your computer to the wireless router and then from the wireless router back to the Time Capsule. Two "hops"......even if the computer is located close to the Time Capsule.
If you want to try this, we can tell you how....but with no guarantees on your results....since this is not officially supported.

There is no serial number and you don't need one. What you need for a subscription is to SIGN IN within Acrobat, so it knows the subscriptions you own.

I would never rely totally on iCloud for backups. I want more control than what Apple has to offer with iCloud and I don't want to have to pay for the storage that I need as the content on my iPad continues to grow. I realize that I had to buy the computer, as well, but I can backup my iPad to iTunes, backup my iTunes library with Time Machine and backup other files with another external drive that I have connected to my MacBook Pro.
I just don't trust all of my content being in the cloud or in Aplple's servers. Just a matter of choice.

You can remove OS 9 if you have no further need for it. There are usually three folders associated with OS 9 located at the root directory of your hard drive:
1. System Folder (not to be confused with the OS X System folder.)
2. Applications (Mac OS 9)
3. Documents
Open the System Folder and locate the OS 9 Finder and System file. Drag them to the Trash and close the folder. Restart the computer. After startup has completed delete the Trash. Now drag all three folders (System Folder, Applications (Mac OS 9), and Documents) to the Trash and empty the Trash.

Do I still need the MobileSync folder now that my backups are in iCloud?

Now that my iPad and iPhone back up to iCloud and not iTunes do I still need the very large device backups that live in the MobileSync folder? My folder is about 10GB and on my 256GB MacBook Air I'd like to reclaim that space if possible.
Any expertise is appreciated! I'll try moving the files to my external and seeing if anything goes horribly wrong.

I copied my mobile device backups to an external drive then deleted them from the iTunes device preference panel. Then I sync'd (iTunes Wi-Fi sync) my iPhone - no new backup was created!
Looks like my theory was correct and I was able to reclaim that 10GB of drive space.

You can just unplug the express and use the Uverse wireless or ethernet directly to it.

MobileMe was discontinued in 2012 and all the data stored on it was deleted, and iCloud can't make backups of Macs.
What I recommend you to make backups is to get an external drive and use Time Machine or an application like Carbon Copy Cloner. With this, you can access to your data everywhere and safely, and then, if you want, use a cloud storage service like CrashPlan. You can keep on using iCloud without backups

Now that I have the Messages beta that uses FaceTime, do I still need the FaceTime app?

So the new Messages beta is out, and I have it downloaded. From what I understand, it's an all in one, for texts, IMs, and FaceTime together. Does this incorporate FaceTime by itself? Or do I still need to keep the FaceTime app around? Or can I delete it?

When you install it, it will remove iChat, but not FaceTime. I suspect it uses components of FaceTime that you'll need, whereas it completely replaces what iChat does, so you no longer need iChat itself.

Contact a friend in the USA and have them mail to you a cheap US iTunes Gift Card that you can redeem in your US account. Or, if a friend has an iTunes account, they can use the iTunes app on a Mac or PC to buy a cheap electronic gift certificate for you. The second option would be faster.
