Do you guys think I should...

return my recently purchased MBP back to the online reseller (eCom Electronics) in exchange for the new MBP (that's of course IF the new MBP is introduced tomorrow)?
I bought mine on 1/7/8 and their return policy states that all returns have to be made within 10 days of purchase... Since I was new to Mac (since last week), I wasn't aware of the possibilities of new MBPs coming out at Macworld...
I guess I'll just wait until tomorrow for keynotes...

Oh btw, I did download few items and opened all accessories for my MBP... Do you think they would actually accept my return? If it's for exchange, there's no reason why they shouldn't, right?
Sorry guys for this stupid topic... I just feel like I made a big mistake by not researching enough (I thought 3+ weeks of lowest price research was enough, but obviously not...) before buying one...

None of us here know what your needs are. At the simplest level, one is more portable, one is more powerful.

... AFAIC Location Services is a joke.
With both devices sitting side by side on my kitchen table, Location Services has NEVER shown the devices to be any where close to each other, and at times Location Services has been as much as a 1/4 of a mile off between the two devices.
Your iPod Touch has no GPS receiver so determining its location relies upon wireless routers whose location is known. Its "location" is actually that of a wireless router. Your iPhone 4 can use GPS, cellular triangulation, and Wi-Fi. One would think GPS would be most accurate but urban areas have a greater density of cells and GPS signals are easily obstructed so cellular triangulation is often more accurate.
Therefore the two devices' locations can be expected to be different. Differences of a quarter mile are easily explained if you understand how location services works: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1975
Skyhook Wireless (I think Apple uses its own database now): http://www.skyhookwireless.com/howitworks/
Location Services is not a "joke"; its intended use is for basic navigation and for such applications as determining where the nearest restaurant is. It cannot tell you that your iPod is under the couch cushions and that your iPhone is in the car.

Hi everyone, I got my iphone 5 already, and it was comming lined, what you guys think I have to do? Im from central america.

"comming lined" does not make any sense in English. "comming" isn't even a word.
Please rephrase the question or post in your native laguage.

What were you guys thinking or not thinking?
We recieved the new guid update it terrible. it's a pail blue with white text, a smaller text size , and it stayson screen for 3 seconds you couldn't read it if you could see it w/the white on light color. do you guys ever look at demmographics the largest sement of population are baby boomers , hello has anyone heard of age related blindness or at least decline. the old info bar stayed on longer so you had a chance to read it and the font size was large enough, and color contrast allowed me  to read from the next room  now you have to be on top of the tv. and keep hitting the button to read it. are you guys trying to give people another reason to leave if so you're doing a darn good job!

I agree 100%. This is absolutely ridiculous. Bring back the old format, if this is the best you can do. This extremely difficult to read.

    No.

Where are you, what network are you on and where did you get the phone?
If you are on an unsupported network, Facetime may never be able to activate. If the phone originated in a different country, facetime is probably trying to send an International text message to activate. If you don't have International text messaging, it will fail.

  • UBER ANGERY TECHNICIAN..... WHAT ARE YOU GUYS THINKING!!!

Hi I've been in the business of end-user repair, training and servicing for about 20 years.  I've owned computers from every major manufacture on the market and I've repaired computers from every single manufacture on the market.  This will be the second time in my life that I've actualy taken the time to register and post to a manufacturer forum....
Today I serviced an IBM Lenovo PC Model#41V9706 Like any intelligent technician I backed up all the customers irreplaceable data prior to beginning, and was informed that the customer had NO disks to speak of for their system.  At first I thought, "ahh, common customer disguarding their important disks... As usual, But then I looked at his face and realized he was  65 and rich... Any way I found the restore application on the hard drive, ran it and created a boot disk.  I then proceeded to try to restore from the backups on the drive.  Didn't work (Great job btw on making good working backups....)  Finally I did a manufacture restore and the @#$@ing thing deleted the entire drive BEFORE it told me that I needed more disks to do the manufacture restore.  Are you guys out of your mind creating a program that is so backward that it doesn't even tell you that with out the disks it leaves the system completely useless?  As of yet all of the lenovo software is now gone, I've had to install a fresh and blank copy of windows using the customers install key and NOW I can't even get their factory software back onto the system because a copy of it doesn't appear to exist.
I'm sorry to be so frank but what the heck kind of restore program deletes all the backups before it tells you it can't help you?!  Even windows doesn't do that.  If I am ever to recommend or endorse another IBM product it will need to show some intelligence in it's design and include fail-safes or at least some kind of warning system to let people know that it is completely useless before it deletes data.  I am in the process of contacting customer service about this but I am not hopeful as my experience shows that for a small fee of $49.99 I might have the software replaced... What a royal piece of crap.
Your backup product receives a lousy 2 in my book your only redeeming qualities are it's ease of use and it's ability to work when windows doesn't.
    Jess

call lenovo 800 in your country to get the original software disk and drivers, if you are in warranty time you get no fee to paid, and is 3 to 5 days to receive the disks

  • What do you guys think of this site/pricelist/ any advice?

    Hey guys,
Just finished up launching my graphics business website -
    www.coastgrafix.com.
Have a look at it, let me know what you think, didn't want to
get to advanced with flash on it etc. - If you have any pointers or
ideas for it or the pricing let me know!
    Regards,

As others have said, your menu text defies legibility, but so
    does all
of the text except "CoastGrafix" in the logo. The Serpentine
    font is
particularly hard to read, even in print, and as graphic text
    at the
size you are using it, might as well be hieroglyphs. It is
    also, as
others have noted, a very dated type face--it does convey a
    "high tech"
feeling, but the "high tech" of about 1982. The HTML text is
    too small
and white text on black is hard to read.
The highlight colors for your menu are confusing. A color
    that serves as
the highlight color for one menu item is the not-highlighted
    color for
several others. Two shades of gray are used for two menu
    items'
highlight, and the orange... well, it's hard to summarize
    what the
colors might mean here, and that's a problem.
Also, the color scheme that you seem to be trying to use on
    menu items
to indicate the current page is inconsistently implemented or
    just an
accident that looks sort of deliberate.
You are using orange with an underline for links, but using
    the same
color (without an underline) for emphasized text. This is
    confusing.
On your ???? page (can't tell which page it is from the
    design, and all
of your page titles are the same) you have an image that says
    something
like "HOT SPECIAL." Clicking this launches my email program.
    I have a
very strong aversion to links that are email links and not
    identified as
such. You would do better to use a form for this function
    anyway.

  • In what universe did you guys think this was a good looking UI for iTunes?

This is the ugliest, and pain in the *** to use UI, I have ever seen.  Please please reconsider it.  The UI is absolutely horrific to use (I had iTunes set up the way I wanted it prior to update, and now you can't set it up the way I had it before....)

Many thanks for these helps to get a little of the usefullness back into this dreadful distortion of iTunes; but can ANYONE help with key strokes to LOSE the "grid" of "album covers" in "Music" and go back to a more useful alphabetical LIST (you can do this in the OTHER genres - why not HERE where it is most necessary?!) - actually THAT I just found: you have to list things by SONG (actually track, since most of my library is not music) and then organize THAT by Album to get back to a useful screen.
The New York Times reported that under the new system you will not be able to durn discs with "gapless playback". Is this true? If so (and even if not), can anyone PLEASE tell us how to get back to the last version of iTunes 10?! There must be someplace it can still be downloaded. I would NEVER have installed this version (and I have *always* installed the latest version of iTunes when sent out) had I known about the Album Cover Grid (which precludes, as far as we can tell, the LARGER illustrations many were able to use under the old system) or the loss of the "gapless playback."
We are still Apple people, but before making THIS radical a change, some warning should have been given that this was NOT a simple cosmetic change like when we lost the charming little rotating cursor during downloads...and when a Community member blithely says "if you don't like Apple go somewhere else" he's ignoring that there IS nowhere else. iTunes has always been the gold standard of audio managing programs.
There changes alone degraded iTunes to something less than Windows Media player just for the sake of novelty and meaningless (except in their irritation quotient) cosmetics. If they wanted to go in that direction why, in heaven's name, couldn't they have offered a new "iTunes-Pop" version for people who don't actually USE their audio or graphics, and leave a great product essentially ALONE for the rest of us as "iTunes BASIC" - or at the very least had the default version closer to the version most of us LOVED rather than forcing us to search for "work-arounds" to make the most useful sound management program on the web useful again! There were things which NEEDED upgrading, and the gnomes at Apple addressed none of them.
The Search Engine has needed improvement for years - the size bar at the bottom of a screen has always been listed in inaccurate tenths of an hour rather than the more USEFUL minutes and seconds shown for individual tracks - THOSE things that actually NEEDED fixing to be useful they left alone.

  • Lumia Lust, anyone? What you guys think of WP8?

I guess one can say that anyone using a E-Series Nokia is excercising their choice. No need to (vast) list of good things these phones offer.
Even though my E6 has served me well, I started to consider upgrading to a new Lumia 920, mainly because of the 4G network speed and maybe the screensize, E6 is way too small.
At the same time, I am a bit concerned about WP8 and how it actually performs.
Any E6 user considered the upgrade? Any opnions on the new Lumia 920?
    Thanks in advance,
    BB

    BB,
I am a current E6 user and in a nutshell, I was enamored with the Lumia 920 too.  But, after spending about an hour playing with it and discovering that many functions were no longer present from previous Nokias (e series), I decided it's not for me. There may be apps in the App Store that would replace the functions that are no longer there but I don't want to spend a whole lot of money to discover the apps don't exist.
This is just a list of deal breakers for me (just my opinion too):
No GPS Data editor: This is my most important "gotta have" function. I have an old E71 that had the best GPS Data apps.  The E6 I had originally didn't have a GPS data editor but I found something that worked in Nokia Store. After upgrading to Belle, that app no longer was compatible and there is no other for the E6.
No Keyboard:  Although the virtual keyboard one the Lumia 920 is very good, it will never replace a real keyboard.
OS:  If I am going to have to make a switch, WP8 is a good switch. But, I really like Symbian and the way things are structured within the OS.
Data Speed:  I am on T-Mobile so the Lumia 920 will only do EDGE speeds. Plus, AT&T won't sell them outright without a contract at this time.  At least that's what they told me.  I am guessing you are with AT&T so data speeds shouldn't be a problem for you.
The bottom line for me is I will be moving on from Nokia entirely.  This may seem a little dramatic but I really feel let down by Nokia at this point. I was always bragging about what my E71 could do compared to iPhone users. The fact that I had a powerful GPS tool was so important since I travel. The E6 brought many improvements but was also a step backwards in many cases from the E71.  I was able to make the E6 funtion as my E71 did but then Belle came along.  My E6 on Belle will no longer do what I mainly wanted it to do.  The Lumia 920 doesn't bring back any of the lost functions and is in fact another step backward in many respects, for me at least.  As is the case with anything, my comments are strickly my opinion and relate to how I use(d) my E71 and E6.

  • Simple (you would think) Automator workflow

    Hi all,
I have been using Mac for the last 3 years. I have a very good knowledge of computers in general, Unix/Linux in particular but I have never used Automator. I would like to create a very simple application in Automator: when I click on the application icon I want to see a form in which I type the name of a song and as a result I want to see a window that contains all the music files that match that name.
I have no problem in creating this as a unix shell script and I know I can use spotlight (the problem with spotlight is that everytime I have to type the search string, click on Show All, then refine the search by setting Kind=Music etc.)
So I thought it would be a piece of cake to do it in Automator.
I'm using the action "Find Finder Items" with "Name Contains" AND "Kind is Audio". If I run this in automator I get the results I want (if I click on the Results tab). However, when I save it as Application and then double click on it, I get the input window in which I can specify the name of the songs I'm looking for (so far so good) but then nothing appears, the application seems to terminate correctly but I am never presented with the results.
I have tried to add a "Reveal Finder Items" after the first action but that's not what I want as it opens one window for each file that matches my search and each window shows all files, with the one I'm looking for highlighted.
What I need is something similar to spotlight, I want a window to open, showing all files that match. I know I can add more actions and for example copy all files that match into a specific folder then open the folder, but that's a dirty way of solving my problem and a bit of an overkill. Aliases would be slightly better, but still not exactly what I want.
This is driving me crazy, you would think it should be a very easy thing to accomplish with Automator...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    TIA
    /Pippo

thanks, but it still doesn't do what I want.
    1) not all my music is in iTunes, so I can't use the Find in iTunes action
    2) adding a Choose from List (as you suggested) after the Find Finder Items now shows me a list of all matches, so that is an improvement, thanks, but I stil can't do anything with that. What I need is a Finder window with the result of the search so that I can simply QuickView the song (or copy it or whatever)
    3) using the Finder search is similar to using spotlight, it doesn't do what I want, I don't want to have to type each time that I'm only looking for songs.
I just want an Automator workflow that:
    1) asks for a file name
    2) searches my computer for audio files that match the name
    3) shows the result in a window where I can then work with the files.
it really bugs me that I can't make Automator perform such a simple workflow, I'm sure I'm missing some obvious action.
    please help
    TIA
    /pippo

  • Are you guys going to primarily be using iBooks for epurchases?

I love the iBook store because it's so elegant to use and vastly prefer it to the Kindle app. The integrated dictionary and "pages to next chapter" are the killer features for me. But the Kindle so far has the wider selection and cheaper prices for ebooks. They also have a web broswer unlike the iBooks store. There's this one book I'm thinking about pre-ordering http://www.amazon.com/Delivering-Happiness-ebook/dp/B003JTHXN6)and I'm not even sure if it's gonna come out to the iBook store soon enough (or even at all) :-/ What do you guys think about iBooks compared to the other ebook alternatives?

At this point I prefer to read in iBooks and have purchased a few books from there and also loaded epub books I already had.
But as you have noticed, their current selection is weaker - primarily with regards to older titles and Random House (who did wish to sign up with the "Agency Model" that Mr. Jobs insisted on). Then again Amazon has still not settled their "differences" with Penguin, and those books are on the iBookstore.
And B&N is AWFULLY SLOW in releasing their iPad app (can't stand the pixelated text of the iPhone app when used on the iPad).
But the differences between the three apps - at least when B&N gets off their butts - would for me make iBooks a preference. (I also like the two page view when holding the iPad horizontally, something the Kindle uses have been asking for also.) But if I want a book and it is available in one of the other stores and not in iBooks, well.....
