Do you have hdd noise?

I got a mbp 17" c2d w/ hard drive noise, after taking it into store, and talking w/ the technical support, they replaced it for me, today I received it. And the noise is the same. Do all the mbp have hdd noise?
stock standard configuration: 17"/256MVRAM/2GRAM/Core2Duo
I checked the hard drive is hitatchi

Man.
Belive it or not, some HDD's make noise. Nine makes a very very slight chunking sound sometimes, when its working heavily, and is a Hitachi 100gb 7200rpm drive I installed myself. This is perfectly fine and not indicative of problematic behaviour.
Some HD's are more quiet than others.
If the noise is very slight, and is not a very shaarp clicking sound, then you are probably just obsessing.
Maybee the model / manufacterer of the HDD is just of the louder variety, especially since the noise persists after you got it replaced. Hard Drives that are messed up in its early life, are very rare. Otherwise, if a manufacter has heaps of bad drives going out, you get something like the IBM fiasco from a few years back, where people stopped buying their drives.

I have a 16GB 3GS phone since about20 months now. For the last few days, my phone is constantly giving me message that the accessory attached to my phone is not optimized for this iphone. You may experience noise or poor communication, while there is no acessory attached to it. I always used standard headphones and charging cable. Now when i recall, it started at one of the sync sessions with my itunes. I have turned my phone off and aon again and again but the message keeps coming every one or two minutes.I have also started loosing voicce on different applications like youtube etc. Also the ringer volume up and down key does not show me the small boxes increasing or decreasing on screen. The phone is playing crazy. Can someone help please
    Thanks
    Zia

It helped earlier but it has come back again. I don't know what to do. I tried what you said earlier but this time even this is not working either. And quite intrestingly my phone won't turn off. I turn it off, it goes off and then restarts on its own and then keep giving the same message again and again.
Could it be a charging cable, is there any chance that the cable which was working fine one day could turn to be "incompatible" with iphone the other day????????
    Please help

  • Can you buy any type of external HDD and it'll work with any mac or do you have to buy specific ones that cost like €999?

can you buy any type of external HDD and it'll work with any mac or do you have to buy specific ones that cost like €999?

You can buy any disk with FireWire, Thunderbolt or USB. If you've got a 2010 or early MacBook Pro, buy a FireWire disk, or if you've a newer computer, a Thunderbolt disk. They'll be faster than the USB, but you can buy an USB hard disk

  • IMac 21'' HDD noise

I have recently started hearing noise emitting from my iMac whenver I install softwares or copy files. Mine iMac is fairly new (7 months old) and the sound was not coming earlier.
Would it be HDD or fan issue?

Contact Apple Service, iMac Service or Apple's Express Lane. Do note that if you have AppleCare's protection plan and you're within 50 miles (80 KM) of an Apple repair station, you're eligible for onsite repair since yours is a desktop machine.

  • Fan and HDD noise

    Hey guys!
I recently noticed the fan on my macbook pro mid 2012 13 inch to be a tad noiser than what it's use too, before the mac was so quiet you could hardly hear it working, now you can hear the fan noticably.
I checked out the fan app and it's roughly doing 2000rpm with the temp on the app saying it's around 48 - 52 degrees celsius when nothing is running other than safari.
I then used the temp app and got these results:
    http://puu.sh/6QwfB.png
    http://puu.sh/6Qwh8.png
I have also noticed over the last day that the HDD has got noiser, after running a S.M.A.R.T test it came back as verified but i am almost 100% sure that it is more noticable than before. The sound i hear is the read/write sound, i checked to make sure nothing was running and finder was not indexing or anything, it just to me sounds louder. obviously, as the mac is from mid 2012 it could of had some use so i am a bit worried about the noise incase it is starting to fail! (all files have been backed up)
I then noticed some issues with the windows partition i made with bootcamp, it became unbearably slow and would often crash when loading up chrome which is what it was not like before, i assume this points towards something wrong with the hard drive but i am yet to see any issues with OSX (will be taking it to lectures next week so im sure i can spot any issues then as i will be using it a fair bit!)
I hope i don't sound like too much of an idiot, i bought this macbook pro second hand (still has a year left of apple care!) and i am not 100% sure if the figures i have given are normal. I can live with the fan noise but the HDD noise is driving me insaine when in a quiet room!
Hope this is just me being silly, as i said im new to the macbook experience and hope to stay this way, hoping these are common things of a macbook and i'm just being a bit OTT.
    Thanks!

    Okay,
Just checked my console and this one error pops up:
    10/02/2014 12:06:48.000 kernel[0]: SMC::smcReadKeyAction ERROR TC0D kSMCBadArgumentError(0x89) fKeyHashTable=0x0xffffff801c040000
It seems to be doing it every 3 seconds or so!
EDIT: fixed this, was an app causing it!

  • Early 2008 iMac HDD Noise

    Hi everyone,
Technical Specifications for my Early 2008 iMac (per Apple Menu > About This Mac > More Info):
Processor: 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory: 6 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB
    Software: OS X 10.8.1 (12B19)
Storage: 227.34 GB free of 319.21 GB
    Discussion:
To my recollection, when I first purchased the iMac, it was silent. Recently, however, I have noticed that the HDD makes an audible, though quiet -- rattle. The Activity Monitor seems to indicate that the sound occurs when the computer writes data to the HDD; that is, when "Data written/sec:" increases from 0 bytes/sec, the sound begins.
I have recorded the sound with 'Voice Memos.app' -- with my iPhone pressed against the back of the iMac -- and have uploaded it here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/bpw3tgkw7xco03j/OJC6XK6HLk
In the previous recording, the sound in question may be heard in addition to the iMac's fans.
I've searched various forums and read several discussions about HDD noises, but I haven't come across a sound byte like the one I just posted. If it's a common sound that has people worried, I'd like it to be available for people to hear.
    Question:
Does this sound "normal", or is my HDD on its way out? If the latter, how long do you think it'll be before it fails?
    Thanks,
    Rob
    For the curious:
My iMac originally had 2 GB of RAM. Due to the demands of heavy computation, it was necessary to upgrade the RAM. I saw elsewhere that the iMac8,1 model may handle 6 GB of RAM -- despite Apple's claim of 4 GB -- and thus upgraded to 6 GB (purchased from OWC).

    Some further information:
    I have run:
Apple Hardware Test (AHT) -- though not the extended version
Rember -- to test the RAM, because the extended version of AHT froze during the RAM test
    TechTool Deluxe Version 3.1.2
    SMARTReporter 2.7
    Drive Alert
    SMART Utility
None of the above tests have indicated any problem with the hardware. Nevertheless, I understand that these tests can fail to identify problems.

  • I'm trying to install iOS 5.0 but getting message that my computer does not have sufficient space to backup my iPad; continuing will result in loss of all media on iPad. I was going to install iCloud but it seems that you have to have iOS 5.0, help?

i'm trying to install iOS 5.0 but getting message that my computer does not have enough space to backup my iPad and continuing will result in loss of all media on iPad.  an option seemed to be backing up on iCloud, but i think you have to have iOS 5.0 to install iCloud.
how do i install iOS 5.0 without losing anything on my iPad?

If you really do not have enough space on your HDD for a backup of your iPad, you do not have enough space at all. Free up at least 15% of your HDD, in any case more than 0.8GB for the iPad update.
Make backups on an external disk.
After freeing up enough space, try again.

  • Please can I have my Noise Margin lowered *again*

Message sent to StephanieG, who was very helpful last time.
Please can I have my noise margin lowered back down to 6 again?
Although it is plugged 24/7 into the test socket, it has crept up again over the last 6 weeks, until another disconnect 10 minutes ago.
Maybe BT would consider, in future HH firmware updates, allowing users to negotiate their own SNR margin, without having to go through this forum?
    Cheers,

I think it is unlikely that BT will ever update the HH to allow users to change their noise margin as it would give them even more support issues. If you wish to continue with a latency type of FAST then I suggest you invest in a router that allows you to specify the noise margin. • What type of fans do you have on your iMac 20"

    I looked up the http://scienceman.com/pgs/00_imacG5.html
and found out my fans are original models like the pictures shown on the left.
I got my iMac this late September and was wondering if it's something to do with the fan noise issue.
So does anyone like to see what fans do you have?

    Jurgan and Richard,
The internals of the 20-inch iMac G5 are different than the internals of the 17-inch model. While the major parts are in the same general area, different components are used.
The first photo at apple-history.com is that of a 17-inch model. The second photo is that of a 20-inch model. The photos at the blog website are also those of a 17-inch model.
For good comparison views, look at the iMac G5 DIY instructions found here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300205
Specifically, look at the 17-inch upper fan instructions and the 20-inch upper fan instructions.
I hope this clears things up.

  • I wonder if you have missed a free neat little plug-in?

I downloaded a plug-in from Noise Industries recently:
    http://www.noiseindustries.com
and in correspondence from this company it was mentioned that few movie makers had downloaded it.
It is part of an FXFactoryFreebie pack and I found is fabulously easy to use and a great deal of fun, thoughtfully and beautifully engineered, just, I might add, as it is with those of their other products I have tried.
I think perhaps the title may have put people off, and if you were deterred, stay with me for a few seconds.
    Star Wars.
I am wondering if some glanced at this and thought, "Oh, pooh, they already made that movie. I am not into sci-fi, even tho I could certainly do a better job than that Lucas guy." A natural thought. I thought it myself.
    However.
I used that slanting back and away rolling script for the opening of a family movie with my house standing in for Tara. ( It is nothing like Tara; it is a four bedroom house with a creek in back, standing on a slope overlooking the mortgage.)
Then I noticed something. The rolling script can be changed so that it runs absolutely vertically. Switch to some neat white fonts and you have a rolling opening title. Put it at the end of your movie and you have a fine looking credit scroll. You could insert expository text in the middle. (When the police arrested Blenkinsop it dawned on him that using a machete on his employer in front of 20 witnesses may have been a tad indiscreet.)
Boris has a fine rolling scroll, and there are others. I found this one very easy and pleasant to use and so I prefer it.
If you don't have it, take a look at it, and while you are there, eyeball their free Ken Burns plug-in, too.
Disclosure. Alas, I have no financial interest in this company.

Thanks a lot for this information !

  • Is it ok to erase the older version of iMovie when you have updated it?

Is it ok to remove the older versions of a program that have been updated, ie Imovie?? What is the best way to do this...?

Yes, keep the Older iMovie11..or what ever older version you have...you will soon want to go back to it I am sure.
I like to know whihch HDD I am importing moview to..That does nto seem possible in new iMovie 10..where as in the older iMovie11 you could choose.
Yes, I know the new one is Version 10...where as the old iMovie11 was version 9...but well done Apple for an inspired naming scheme...not confusing at all.......bloody Muppets..someone needs a big slap .
Some versions are better for some stuff than others.  I wish I had known you coudl keep older versions.

  • How do you guys reduce noise in Canon 5d mark II video?

I am really interested to know if anybody could give me leads on how to reduce noise in 5d mark II videos. First off - Canon 5d mark II stock HD bitrate is not really nice. Even shooting in day time I have color noise and a lot of noise in shadow areas. Its only after I played with ML 2.3 and tried to shoot 1080p vid on CBR 1.4x mode (thats the maximum bitrate supported by my present CF card but planning to buy a new one).
How do you guys deal with it?

Tests have been done that show ISO settings in multiples of 160 produce the least amount of noise on video. Starting at 160 the 5Dmkii produces less noise than even at lower ISO settings of even 100 ISO.   160, 320, 480(500), 640 and so on. If you need ISO settings of a lot higher and the noise becomes obvious there is video noise reduction software that could help.
