Do you have to have an HDTV in order for the apple TV to work?

I was wondering if i could hook apple tv up with one of my old television's that isn't HD

There is no guarantee it will work, it is meant o be connected via HDMI.
Even if it did you would run into issues with resolution and would not be able to watch HDCP content

  • You have not maintained a rule for the fiscal year variant

    1) I have Fiscal Year Variant in the Cube ( it got added along with fiscal year ) but there is no Fiscal year variant in the datasource & when I dont map it Transformation activation prompts error " You have not maintained a rule for the fiscal year variant ".
Can I just delete Fiscal year variant from the cube..does it matter?
    2) Fiscal year & Posting Period can be populated from Fiscal Period, is the vice versa possible..? Does the sytem will take care of the conversion..?

    1. no, you should not delete and you cannot delete fiscal year variant from cube, it's required by fiscal year/ period (compound infoobject), you should add it in your datasource, or you can map with a constant value e.g K4
    2. yes, fiscal period can be populated by posting period

  • DIM-00035 You have entered and invlaid option for the -EDIT command

    Hi Experts,
I am creating oracle instance using oradim utility. I am using oracle 9.2 on windows 2003 server.
I have installed oracle 9.2 and created ORCL database as part of installation. Now I have deleted ORCL database using DBCA. Now I try to create a new DB instance.
    I ran the below command:
    c:\>oradim -NEW -SID <sidname> -SRVC OracleService<SID> -INITPWD <password> -pfile <pfilepath>
I am getting the below error:
DIM-00035 You have entered and invlaid option for the -EDIT command
Please help me why I am getting this error even though I am creating new service.
    Thanks.

    The definition for INITPWD is:
-INTPWD password is the password for the new instance. This is the password for the user logged in with SYSDBA privileges. Option -INTPWD is not required. If you do not specify it, then operating system authentication is used, and no password is required.
The passwords for SYS and SYSTEM are created later - when the database itself is created. Nevertheless the error message is strange, there is no -EDIT option in the command. Moreover -NEW and -EDIT are mutually exclusive.

  • HT4157 if i get an i pad with 3g service capability do i have to use it in order for the i pad to work or can   i just use the wifi part because i don't have the extra money to pay for a data plan

if i get an i pad with 3 g service capability do i have to use it in order for the i pad to work or can i just use  the wifi part because i dont have the extra money to pay for a data plan

If you do get 3G, you only use cellular when wifi is not available. You pay by the month for a 3/4G plan.

  • HT201363 Say if you have only TWO security questions for your Apple ID, and if you forgot the answers to them, how can you change your security questions?

    Help please, anyone?

    Hello Livi4321,
Thanks for the question. If you do not remember the answers to your security questions please refer to the following article:
Apple ID: All about Apple ID security questions
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5665
What should I do if I don't remember the answers to my Apple ID security questions?
Try answering them at least once to see if you can get them right, even if you are not sure you remember the answers to your security questions.
If you are confident you can't remember them, try one of the following:
If you have three security questions and a rescue email address
         - sign in to My Apple ID and select the Password and Security tab to send an email to your rescue email address to reset your security questions and answers.
If you have one security question and you know your Apple ID password
         - sign in to My Apple ID and select the Password and Security tab to reset your security question.
If you have one security question, but don't remember your Apple ID password
         - contact Apple Support for assistance. Learn more about creating a temporary support PIN to help Apple confirm your identity when you contact Apple Support.
If you continue to have issues, please contact our Account Security Team as outlined in this article:

  • Do you have to get special packages for the iphone?

Do you have to get special packages, that you have to pay for monthly, in order to get say internet, GPS, weather, etc?

As noted, you have to purchase the $30/month unlimited data plan, which covers all internet and email access, including the iPhone YouTube, weather, maps, and stock widgets. For SMS, you can pay-as-you-go, or sign up for one of the packages (I'll be getting the $5 for 200/month add-on).
GPS is free, though various location based applications and services may not be.

  • Can you have more then one iphone control the apple tv at the same time?

Can you have more then one iphone4 as a remote for one apple tv at the same time?

iCloud, iTunes & Apps Stores can be assigned different AppleID's from the Settings app. I have my phone and my wife's set up this way for the very reasons you are describing. Works well.

  • So I have a 3G 32GB ordered for the 7th. What do you think my chances......

if I head over to an Apple Store after work to pick one up and cancel my preorder. Anybody have any WiFi stories from launch day or the days after?

I fail to understand why so many people have such an urgency to get Apple's latest and greatest product. When the wi-fi iPad came out, I waited about three hours after the Apple store near me opened that Saturday. I walked right in and tried one of the display models without waiting at all. A man who was standing next to me tried another iPad and bought one that day, also no wait. This is despite the fact that people were lining up hours early at that store to be "the first" to purchase an iPad.
My suggestion is to wait for your online order to be processed and be happy that you are one of those who can afford to purchase an iPad 3G even if you aren't the first person on your block to get one. Life is too short to worry about such things.

  • Do you need a receiver for the Nike+ sensor to work?

Hi, like to know if you'd need the receiver in order for the Nike+ sensor to work.
Am currently running with my 3GS but thought the GEN 6 Nano looks pretty awesome and I'll like to know if I need the receiver.
    Thanks in advance.

    hi Niel,
would you, by any chance, know that if we use the iPod nano and the receiver+sensor, will we be able to map our running route just like the Nike+ GPS app? I think it's not possible, but just want to be sure.
    thank you in advance!

  • I would like to know if you have to back up a macbook hard drive, can I use a external hard drive that has been previously used to back up several pc 's, or is it best to have a separate external drive for the Mac?

I would like to know if you have to back up a macbook hard drive, can I use a external hard drive that has been previously used to back up several pc 's, or is it best to have a separate external drive for the Mac?

In the Mac side of things, backups usually come in two flavors: clones or incrementals.
A bootable clone is a bit-for-bit copy of all essential files in the startup volume. If using the Lions, clones can be made using CarbonCopyCloner or just plain old Disk Utility. These backups represent the safest protection of your info, but take the longest to do. Recovery is an inverse process: you copy the clone back into the internal drive.
Incremental backups start with a complete backup of the startup volume and only copy whatever changed from the previous run. OS X includes the fully integrated Time Machine backup utility to do this. It is extremely easy to do and takes the least amount of time. Recovery is another matter altogether since you have to start with a freshly installed instance of the OS and have to apply all intervening backups to bring the result to the latest saved version.
As for where the backup takes place, the recommended media is an external dedicated drive or drives connected via the fastest interface available on your Mac: Thunderbolt, USB3, Firewire, or USB2. Network-based backups, wired or wireless, are attractive but may not offer the same performance and hence take longer. Also important to note that the entire drive need not be completely dedicated to a single backup. The Mac's EFI firmware infrastructure allows for an unlimited number of partitions on a hard drive and each can be used for either type of backups.
Holler if you need specifics on how to do each. This was just an executive summary.

how can i stop an error message that comes up when i am using word? the error message is "word is unable to save the Autorecover file in the location specified. Make sure that you have specified a valid location for Autoreover files in Preferences,…"

It sounds like if you open Preferences in Word there will be a place where you can specify where to store autorecover files. Right now it sounds like it's pointing to somewhere that doesn't exist.

  • I have pages version 2.1 for the i pad. When I try to open pages documents on my mac it says You need a newer version of Pages to open this document. I have updated to the very latest Pages for mac version 4.3. Cant figure it out.

I have Pages version 2.1 for the i-pad. I have Pages on my Macbook, version 4.3. When I try to ipen a doc on my Mac it says I need a newer version to open this doc. There is no newer version. I need these docs in a bad way and cant get to them on the Mac. Any ideas?

IOS Pages 2.0 and 2.1 implement an entirely incompatible document format with Pages ’09 v4.3. It cannot open them, and you are then prompted to update to Pages v5+ which is compatible with your IOS Pages.
Unfortunately, updating to Pages v5+ is a bad thing, as it is a brand new application that has omitted over 90+ features from Pages ’09 v4.3. When you update to Pages v5+, it will move your old still functional version of the earlier Pages into /Applications/iWork. Aside from all the missing functionality, Pages v5+ will likely damage older documents that depend on specific Pages ’09 v4.3 features (including AppleScript and custom Templates).
Oh, by the way, the older and new Pages documents have the same filename extension (.pages) making document organization difficult without applying different tag colors to old and new documents.
We are recommending that users remain on their earlier Pages version. You may have to export documents from IOS Pages as Word .docx to avoid the OS X Pages update notice.

  • Can you have two different itunes account on the same computer

how can you have 2 different itunes accounts on the same computer?

You would need two seperate users on the computer. Then each library would be independent of each other. Or do you mean two seperate iTunes store accounts?

  • HT4314 Can you have multiply Game Center accounts on one apple id

Can you have multiply Game Center accounts on your apple id

After 2 hours worth of searching with no answer, I decided to run a test and it worked. This is what I did to have multiple Game Center IDs on iOS7. (People responding may have over looked this detail because they assumed it was obvious, but it wasn't)
Answer: you MUST have multiple Apple ID accounts, however, you use the main one to log in to SETTINGS > ITUNES & APP STORE.
    1. I deleted the Alternate Email Address associated with my account
    2. I created an entire new Apple ID with this email address
    3. I login in to SETTINGS > ITUNES & APP STORE with my original Apple ID (credit card on file)
    4. I login to Game Center, iCloud, etc... with my kid's NEW Apple ID
So purchasing still goes under our shared account and game center, iCloud, etc... go under my kid's Apple ID.
