Question

I've had some problems with DVD player either crushing or stopping and the DVDs being stuck in the drive just recentely after months of working without problems.
I tried to repair permissions and verify disk (HD). Permissions are ok but when verifying disk I got this message:

Checking Catalog file.

Checking Catalog hierarchy. %)

The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired.

Disk Utility stopped verifying “Macintosh HD” because the following error was encountered:
The underlying task reported failure on exit
1 HFS volume checked
Volume needs repair
My question: how do I repair disk? what may be the reason of that problem? does it have anything to do with the DVD player or super drive?

Disk Utility cannot repair the volume you boot from. To repair your hard disk, you need to boot from the Install DVD (insert DVD, restart with the c key pressed). Select your language, then frrom the Utilities menu choose Disk Utility, select your hard disk, and click Repair.
Hard crashes can sometimes result in errors in the hard disk volume map, depending on what the hard disk was doing during the crash. This may or may not have anything directly to do with your DVD Player problems.
So, repair your hard disk, and see if that corrects the DVD player issue. If it does, great! If not, start a new thread.
