Do you know of a good flash drive tester for OSX?
I know Disk Utility can verify pendrives, but it's not a deep test... it just seems to verify some partition tables or indices. I'd like to know if there's some tool capable of telling the status of cells in the flash drive.

Does anybody know of a good flash book?
Hello, I'm very new to flash, and wanted to know if any of
you knew of a good tutorial/referance book for FLASH CS4 that I
could use to help teach myself flash.
Thanks!Mumasatus,

Flash is one of the most versatile tools I know. You can use
Flash for
everything from TV cartoons (no programming at all), to
custom slideshows,
banners, and other Web eye candy (perhaps some programming),
to games, music
players, video players, and applications (potentially heavy
programming).
This means you can focus on quite a variety of disciplines,
so for
anyone to recommend a book, it will probably help to hear
more about the
projects you're interested in pursuing. There are books
specifically on
animation (cartoon or otherwise), on illustration, on making
applications,
on demoing (faking) applications, on programming in general,
and even on
extending the capabilities of the authoring tool.
If you're interested in a good general-purpose reference --
something to
give you a broad sense of the basics -- I'll go ahead and
mention the
friends of ED title I just co-authored with my buddy Tom
Green (not *that*
Tom Green, the other one). It's called "Foundation Flash CS4
for
Designers," and this new edition is nearly 700 pages. We
cover the work
space, the various drawing tools, text, audio, video, two
chapters on
animation, CSS, XML, the UI components, and more.
http://www.FoundationFlashCS4.com/
There's also a CS3 version, if you're using CS3:
http://www.FoundationFlashCS3.com/
Both of those websites link to the publisher, where you can
read sample
chapters, and Amazon.com sells both for around $25 apiece,
which is pretty
cheap. There aren't any reviews yet for the CS4 edition, but
the reviews
for our CS3 book are generally really good.

Do you know how to use Flash? can you help?
hi all,
Do you know how to use Flash?
I have been trying for months to find someone who can use
flash, who can help me, with no luck.
I need my links on my website updating, just a couple of them
need the text changing as i need
to change the name/title of some pages. I have tried to do it
myself (using a trial version of flash,
as i dont have flash). the site was made using dreamweaver.
the files are .FLA
and before anyone says 'get the person who made the site to
do it'....He wont, ive tried.
when i tried to change them myself i cocked them up and now
they dont work at all, see my
website and you will see; www.stevenallenphotography.co.uk
so, if you can use flash please can you help me? all i need
doing is the file updating with some
of the link titles/names changing, i.e. one link is
'exhibitions' which needs changing to 'published work',
please get in touch if you can help.

Flash Drive Format for BOTH Mac & PC
Is there any way I can format my flash drive (scandisc) for both mac and pc? Thanks!

Thank you so much! I had my doubts that a definitive solution to this problem existed. I am very grateful.
Just thought I would also throw this out as an option: "IronKey The World's Most Secure Flash Drive" (https://store.ironkey.com/personal) works on PC, MAC, and Linux (see specs for details). But at a price range of $79.00 (IronKey Personal S200 1GB Secure Drive - FIPS) to $299.00 (IronKey Personal D200 32GB Secure Drive - FIPS) this seems like a hefty price to pay, but also no need to have something like PGP on each machine.
Three reviews I found helpful were:

What I don't like about what have read is the self-destruct feature. I understand it offers protection from data theft from tampering attempts or brute-force attacks, but as the PC Advisor reviewer noted "10 consecutive failed logins will leave you with an ornamental keyring" so that is actually an open door to a denial of service / denial of data attack - your data is secure but could cost you $299.00 and your data if someone had access to it in your absence and just wanted to be prankish. Yea, I know they could also disable more expensive equipment in like manner, so guess this is just more in line with a valid argument for protecting physical access to systems as part of overall security plan. In this case, maybe handcuff the thing to yourself.
Also the product does offer more of it feature set to PCs, and I would rather have equality here for the price. And although interesting, I am not immediately sold on it added features such as seemingly anonymous surfing with hardened version of Mozilla Firefox and IronKey's servers (similar in concept to using Tor network) - it may be neat and advantages in some situations but it is not a panacea of speed and complete privacy if you delve into such things.
All that being said, think it would be nice to play with and see how it works; and other manufactures are also putting out efforts in this direction so it is kind of interesting to at least be aware of it and how it might be useful and look towards its evolution. Depending on the environment, you might be better off getting a 64GB encrypted SSD, set it up on your PC and then access from your Mac via something like a virtual windows machine using Parallels for Mac (http://www.parallels.com/).
Also, may want to look at True Crypt (Free open-source disk encryption software for Windows 7/Vista/XP, Mac OS X, and Linux) at http://www.truecrypt.org/. Much reading there, but also think there would be a solution that would just cost you your time; have read varying reports, google and you will have much to read for the next few days but may be just the ticket to meet your needs.
If you do start implementing any of this, would love to hear about how it plays out. Assume others would also. -
Any good freeware battery tester for the Macbook?
I searched for battery tester on versiontracker and there are no results. I saw the genius bar used an ipod nano to test my battery. I wonder if anybody knows a good downloadable battery tester for Macbooks.
In addition to that link (which is very good) there are two popular applications I see a lot of members post about:
Coconut Battery Monitor (http://www.coconut-flavour.com/coconutbattery/index.html)
iStat Pro (http://www.islayer.com/apps/istatpro/)
The iStat widget is a system monitor, that includes a portion on battery health. -
Install Flash Player 9 for OSX
I’ve installed Flash Player 9 for OSX and it
doesn’t seem to work. I’m not experiencing anything
similar to previous threads. I don’t get any errors and the
installation seems to go fine but when I return to any site that
requires Flash Player 9 it tells me that I need to install the
latest version, which I’ve done. I’ve even uninstalled
and then reinstalled with the same result. Did I miss something
here?I have been having the same problem since installing Leopard.
I have tried suggestions from others:
there are no browsers running when I install Flash Player
I have repaired permissions (both before and after
installing)
I have uninstalled before reinstalling
None of these work. I am unable to view Flash content in
Safari, Firefox or Internet Explorer. I am using a G5 Mac desktop
and have had no previous problems with the Flash player on this
machine. -

When you they get close, you will see a white plus sign inside a green box . Remove your fingers from the trackpad. The item is now on your flash drive. Repeat as necessary. -
Is a flash drive reliable for time machine backup?
Setting up time machine. Wondering if a flash drive is reliable for this purpose. Thanks for any views. mjkjk
By default, Time Machine makes a full backup of your entire drive. My guess would be that it would fill your entire flash drive, or within a very short time.
You could exclude all but your data files, I suppose.
Time Machine works on an exclusion basis, not an inclusion basis. So, you'd have to go through and exclude lots of stuff to force it to only backup your data. That's why I suggested one of the other methods.
I guess I neglected the other part of the question because I really don't know about the reliability. I have heard that you shouldn't trust your data to them. But remember, what I've heard could be complete hogwash. -
I need a USB flash drive recommendation for late 2008 MBP
I swapped out an Aluminum MacBook Pro for the new unibody one. Unfortunately, since the 2 USB ports are now side by side, I can no longer use my external mouse and flash drive at the same time due to the thickness of the Cruzer drive.
Anyone out there have a USB drive that DOES fit next to a standard sized USB cable? I need a brand that has sizes 4 GB or bigger. Thanks for any help or suggestion you can provide.Hi JMF, I had the same issue as you, but I found a USB drive that does fit next to a standard sized USB cable. It is a Verbatim USB Mini Swivel and comes in sizes from 1GB to 8GB. You can get these through the Online Apple store. Hope this helps.
