Do you need a high speed USB drive to effectively use a 5G ipod

My new 5G is working on my newer dell comp with the high speed, but not working on my older vaio without a high speed drive. Thoughts?

Do you mean a high speed (USB 2.0) port?
Your hard drive is not USB and it is fast enough.

  • High speed usb port?

I have a older laptop. 5 or 6 years old.
When I plug my ipod into the usb port a message pops up saying that this devise could preform faster, if I had a high speed usb port on my computer.
Could this be the problem why I cant put songs from itunes onto the ipod?
I get this message "The ipod "its name here" cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to.

You have a different problem. The iPod can work with the slower USB1 ports but data transfer is painfully slow. It seems that your iPod needs to be restored back to factory settings.

  • No high-speed USB ports?

When my I-Pod Shuffle is plugged into either of the two USB ports in the back of my computer's modem, my computer states that there is a "High Speed USB Device attached to a non high-speed hub" and that "There are no high-speed USB host controllers installed on this computer". So I take it I'm going to have to buy some sort of high-speed USB device to fit the I-Pod, but I have no earthly idea where I would buy one!

No - you dont need a high speed port it will work fine with a 1.1 (low speed) port. It will just take a lot longer to load songs on your shuffle.
As long as it charges (high powered port is needed - you can have high powered port which is low speed) you shoud be OK.
If you dont like the transfer speed you can probably take out the USB card that you have and replace it with a 2.0 card - a fairly easy and relatively cheap procedure, but if you dont feel comforatble doing it ask a freind who is a bit more tech savvy.

  • Do you need a special external hard drive for iMac?

Do you need a special external hard drive for iMac?

Any external hard drive that will connect via Firewire 800, USB, or Thunderbolt will work.
I have a 750GB Western Digital Scorpio drive in an OWC case, sitting on a Backpack, which connects via Firewire.  Western Digital Scorpio drives have 5 year warranties, the OWC (macsales.com) cases usually use the Oxford chipset which works well with macs, and the Backpack is a slick way to mount a backup drive without taking up desk space.
After you hook up whatever external drive you end up with, you'll partition and initialize it for OS X, then begin using it.
My opinion, I would not get a Western Digital pre-packaged external drive/case.  While the hard drives are OK, there have been a number of people that have had issues with the electronics.

  • I used to be able to download temple run onto my iPod 2nd generation. I then had to restore the iPod but now I can't re-download temple run onto it. It says you need a higher ios number. Is there anything I can do to get it back?

I used to be able to download temple run onto my iPod 2nd generation. I then had to restore the iPod but now I can't re-download temple run onto it. It says you need a higher ios number. This is the same with many other apps as well and not just temple run. Is there anything I can do to get them back?

So, you need an older version of the iOS app, because the current version no longer works on your iPod touch.
If you do regular backups of your hard drive (as you should), such as by using Apple's built-in Time Machine (if you use a Mac), you may find the older version of the app in the backup archive, and restore it (replacing the newer version).  They are stored in the iTunes Media folder, in the Mobile Applications sub-folder.  You should then be able to sync the older version to your iPod touch.
I can't think of any other way to get it back...
NOTE:  An 2nd gen iPod touch can run up to iOS 4.2.1.  If your iPod touch is running something earlier, and that is why the app no longer works, you can also consider updating the iPod's iOS.
I use an even older iPhone (original).  I avoid this potential problem by aways updating its apps on the iPhone, not in iTunes on the computer.  When I do it on the iPhone, it will not download a newer version of an app that won't run on my old iPhone.

  • High Speed USB Ports

Every time I plug my iTouch into my PC, I get a notice that I should use a high speed USB.  Yet, there are only three USB ports on the laptop and all of them trigger the same alert.  What am I missing?  Are the high speed USB ports attached to the Docking Station?

What kind of Thinkpad do you got (for example T61, Type/model: 4236-3EG) and what OS do you use?
Did you always have this problem or something that started recently? Did you also try other USB devices that give the same error?

  • Must I have a high speed USB port?

Every time i connect my brand new 60 gig ipod to my computer a bubble pops up saying "A high speed device is plugged into a non-high speed USB port" Ive seen this before with other devices and its never been a problem, however with this ipod plugged in my computer freezes up, i can still click stuff and all but nothing happens, and then when i disconnect the ipod everything pops up and its like it was never frozen....very wierd, like the screen freezes when the ipod is plugged in. Anyone have any advice for me?

No, you do not have to have a high speed usb port to use the pod or iTunes. It really does make it much faster though, but it is not necessary.
I get the same bubble at home where I have the older 1.1 usb ports. It takes about 3 to 4 minutes to read my Pod and associate it with my PC. This happens everytime. The more you put on it, the longer it is going to take.
On my new laptop which has 2.0, it takes 25 seconds to register everything. That's 3500 pics and 16 gigs of music; Hence you can see why 2.0 is on my christmas list for the desktop lol.
Try giving it at least 5 minutes to fully register. The first time you do it, it always takes a long time. Also do you have any other USB things hooked up that may be conflicting with the pod?

  • For Full performance You need a Higher voltage AC Adapter Message

    Hello,
I have a HP G70-460US Laptop since October 10,2009. About three days ago, the laptop started showing me a system message about the AC Adapter. The message says: For Full performance you need a higher voltage AC adapter. I verified the AC Adapter and the temperature was normal. The battery was charging OK. I had the laptop connected to a power strip, so I connect the laptop directly to the wall outlet. The next day, my wife was trying to use the laptop, and the battery had no charge. I unplugged and plugged again the AC Adpter and started charging again, but, the system keeps posting the same error message as before. My laptop is usually connected to a electrical outlet.
    What can be the problem?

We are also getting this same message with a new G60-506US laptop just placed in service with the factory HP A/C adapter.
Looks like someone from HP needs to get into this!

I used Disk drill to find missing files on my USB, but don't want to pay $89 dollars to recover them.  Othe free programs don't even find the files.  Is there a trick to recovering them using the iMac?

  • You need a higher version, but I already have higher version

I am getting this message when I try and open and modify a saved "fillable" form:
"You need a higher version of acrobat (v6.0 or higher) to fill this form"
It then tells me that my current version is 10.103, obviously higher than the v6.0 they are demanding, and then there is a non-clickable or copyable url of where to go to update my reader.  Attempts to "update" tell me that I already have the latest version and no updates are available.  I have opened this form and updated it every quarter (excise tax form from the state) for the past two years, and have had no issues until now.
Also, once I have clicked OK on that javascript pop up window on open, it covers the top half of the document with yellow box stating "You need Acrobat Reader 6.x or higher to . . . " and the rest is cut off by the print instructions, but I assume it ends with " . . . to fill this form".
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks

    BTW, system is as follows:
    Dell Precision Workstation T7500
    Pair of Xeon X5550 Processors
    24 GB ECC RAM
Pair of Diamond Fire V8700 video cards with 1GB RAM each
    Win 7 Pro 64 bit
Full CS5 Master Collections installed but not Acrobat

    Hey Bernd;
You are correct, it is a javascript error.  I have attached two print screens to provide a better view of the errors.
    Any suggestions appreciated.

  • "This High-Speed USB device is connected a non High-Speed USB Hub" pops up!

Hi. I have an iPod mini and a Window XP desktop. I've checked my computer as stated in the forum. I know I have a USB 2.0 port according to one of the posts I've read, but I guess it's not a high speed LOL. So I was wondering if it takes more time to fully recharge the iPod mini with a non High-Speed USB Hub than it does with the High-Speed USB Hub.

  • Dictionary needs to wake up USB drive to launch !?....

    hi guys
a pesky annoyance has crept up lately in my computing life :
i have 3 W.Digital USB drives connected to my iMac 27'' i7 w/ 8GB of RAM, through a couple of Logitech powered USB hubs.
1 is T.Machine w/ 1TB, 1 is my iTunes Library w/ 1.7TB & the other is video w/ 600GB. the iTunes drive is connected alone to one hub + my HP printer + a usb cable from my APC ups.
the other two drives share the other hub
when i click on the Dictionary's icon to open it, if it's the 1st time that day it takes ages to open & sometimes hangs but regardless what it does, ALWAYS AFTER the USB drive/iTunes library is woken up & starts spinning !!??....
after that 1st time it opens quite readily, doesn't need the drive to spin & rarely hangs up - i call hanging up when one clicks on an app's icon & the icon stays magnified, sticking out half way of a by now frozen dock & nothing happens for a while ( sometimes with, sometimes without beach ball of death... ) then after a few seconds up to maybe a minute it either opens properly or i get bored & force it to quit...
does anyone have ANY idea what this is all about ? you think it could be love between my drive & my Dictionary app & they simply can't live one without the other ?
i'm joking about it but english not being my native language, this is highly irritating since when writing longer, more intricate texts, i do need to use Dict. quite a bit to check out correct spellings, etc..
ANY help on this matter WILL be greatly appreciated, many thanks in advance
    Nuno

    Good afternoon,
You are right. It does appear under /cdrom. My brain isn't here. I found that I could use ejected.
Some how in clicking on different things, I have discovered that there is a nice "desktop" It did show the CD-rom disk in the computer. I clicked on that and I was able to eject the disk that way. Although it seems "nautilus" (whatever this is) doesn't like me doing that; it generated an error message. I closed it and the desk top went away.
Is it normally for the /cdrom to keep displaying a cd-rom disk that is no longer in use? How do I clear that?
I think I got the idea about the rmdisk, because that is where the USB device had once appeared. Since I had the volume manager running, I decided to insert the USB device. The computer wanted to reformat it. I answered "No," but I don't know where it is. What else do I need to do?
    Thank you,
    Fred

  • High Speed USB ???

I have a Mac Book Pro 2.16GHz model that I got about a year ago. All I need to find out is WHAT USB port is the high speed port?
As you sit in front of the laptop as normal would it be the port on the right or left?
    Thank you.

I believe they are all the same speed. One of the high speed buses is used by your iSight camera. The other, I am going to assume is for use with the express slot. If you want to get serious speed I would try firewire. The firewire 800 would be your fastest option, but firewire 400 isn't really that much slower.

  • I've bought an Apple USB drive, can I use this to load DVD's onto my computer so I only need to take the laptop on holiday with me rather than the USB drive and dvd's?

I've bought one of the Apple USB Superdrives thinking I could use it to load DVD's and save them onto my macbook pro, can anyone confirm if I can or can't do this?
If I can how do I do it?

Ok so any chance you could explain to me exactly what I need to do as I am absolutely clueless! I have a pile of DVD's, the USB superdrive and I've just downloaded the Handbrake software. When I put the DVD into the superdrive it starts playing, how do I get the series onto my computer?
If you haven't done this before, there are a few things you need to know. Sorry to say that this is not yet a simple, straightforward process like it is for music CDs. It helps to be a little geeky. You will need to make some choice about file format and file size if there is any chance that the imported discs will take up more space than you have available on your hard drive. If you are willing to learn, you should read the Handbrake User Guide and other articles on the Web about importing DVDs.
If you think this is starting to look complicated and you don't have time to figure it out before the trip, it might be easier to just bring the discs.
I have found that Handbrake can't import every disc. I think Mac DVD Ripper Pro is a much easier program to use, and it will import almost any DVD pretty reliably, but it costs money. For me it is worth it.
No matter which way you do it, it is going to take a lot of time to import a bunch of discs. It is going to take a lot more time than importing music CDs.
