Do You NEED The iPod Start-Up CD?

If you get a brand new iPod, do you NEED the iPod Start-Up CD?

No you don't need the cd. In fact the new iPods on sale don't even have it included nowadays.
Everything your prospective buyer needs is here.

The iPod updater is included in iTunes 7.

The cord which you use to connect the iPod to your computer can be connected from the iPod to the power adapter.

  • Do you need the SIM card when changing to another iphone

Do you need the SIM card when changing to another iphone

You posted in the iPod Shuffle forum; it might be best to post in the iPad forum, as I was a bit confused at first. Anyway,
It doesn't need a SIM to download apps if you have Wi-Fi. Can you describe this box a little more, or better yet, screenshot it?
    Taking a Screenshot:
Quickly press then release the home and power buttons at the same time.
Get the photo on your computer and upload it here.
If you don't want to do this, can you describe it a little more? When you say "black box," I'm guessing it's an outlined box that appears around any item that you tap on. Is this correct? If so, it sounds like VoiceOver was enabled. See:

  • Those who took a while to active then did activate, did you need the e-mail

Did you need the e-mail and have to click a link or something, or did your phone just start working? I am sitting on the computer waiting on an e-mail. Is this necessary, or will the phone just start working?
If you answer please be detailed....thanks!

The email I received was only to tell me that the activation (from T-Mobile) was in progress. They will send me another email in addition to an SMS to confirm when the process is complete.
Aside from all of that, I was able to synch my phone with all my contacts, music, etc., access my wifi, and try out the web and a few things. But I was not yet able to make/receive a call (or maybe I just didn't know what the heck I was doing).

  • Can you buy the ipod touch/iphone etc. then send it back to apple to be engraved?

if you don't want it engraved straight away but want some time to think of what to engrave on it, can you buy the ipod touch then send it back a few months later to be engraved with your preffered message? xx

No, you will need to go to a jewellers / trophy engraver to get your iPod engraved.

  • "You need the Rosetta software to run -bash" ????

I've finally upgraded my old PB to the latest MBP. I have used the Terminal to run Ruby, RVM and Rails, etc.
I've used the Migration assistance when starting this new machine.
But Terminal kicks me out with this: "You need the Rosetta software to run -bash" I don't want to run Rosetta and I would think bash isn't PowerPC software.
I've googled this but don't see this mentioned anywhere. With Terminal out of commission, I'm unsure what file to open that will give me a clue as to my setup. thanx, sam

/bin/bash on a default MacBook Pro Mac OS X installation is:
    file /bin/bash
    /bin/bash: Mach-O fat file with 2 architectures
meaning it has both intel and PowerPC code.
So I would wonder if you are invoking /bin/bash, or if you have somehow pulled your PowerPC bash copy over during the migration of your stuff from your PowerBook.
My Mac OS X 10.6.6 /bin/bash chksum is
    cksum /bin/bash
    3855549735 1346544 /bin/bash
You might also want to check your Terminal preferences, as there are ways to override the default shell invocation that might have been migrated over from your PowerBook.
You might also look at what your default shell is set to (should be /bin/bash)
    dscl .
    cd Users
    read yourunix_namehere
    quit
    Or as one line
    dscl . -read $HOME shell

Sounds like the Activation Lock (iOS 7) is working as designed. It determs theft since y have to know the APple ID's passward to use/restore the iPod foro use. Unless you can get the password you have a nice but thin brick. Likely the iPod was stolen
