Do you need to have windows 7 for bootcamp
I have the new mac book pro.I downloaded microsoft office 2011 for mac from our educational site thus i did not have to buy any windows software. I do not have windows 7. Is there any way around having bootcamp without having to buy windows 7. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I just had the same problem and was able to fix it after trying a couple of things I found after a search.
The solution that worked for me:
Find iTunes folder - it should be in C:\Program FIles (x86) or similar depending on your operating system
Right click the entire folder (no need to open it) and click properties
Click the security tab
Click edit and highlight the user name under which you logged in.
Click the box next to full in the allow column, which should check everything
Click apply
Open iTunes
This worked for me. -

Repair iTunes Security Permissions
Right-click on your main iTunes folder and click Properties, then go to the Securitytab and click Advanced. Use the Change Permissions... button grant to your account (or the Users group) and SYSTEM full control of this folder, subfolders and files, then tick the option to Replace permissions entries... which will repair permissions throughout the library. When complete switch to the General tab, click in the Read-only check box to clear it, then click Apply.
If you don't have the option to change the permissions then use the Owner tab and Edit... button to take ownership from an account with administrator privileges. Tick the option to Replace owner on subcontainers and objects.
Repeat with the media folder if it isn't stored inside the main iTunes folder.
If you've brought over the library from another computer you may also want to remove any "mystery" identities (S<string of dashes & digts>) that have come over from the old computer...
The images above are from Windows 7. Hopefully the system isn't too different in Windows 8.

sorry, i don't have the answer, but i think i have the same problem if i may expound:
I did a windows 7 update.... and today i tried to modify some song info in iTuens... I selectd an album with 12 songs in it, right clicked for "Get Info" tied to update album info including year, album artist, etc... but it would not take. I checked the security setting in the windows folder and confirmed i had admin rights etc...still no go... -
Have tried to install Itunes on laptop running 32 bit Windows 7 - it says it installed successfully but then when I click to open I get the message "the folder is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions for this folder."
You will have to descripe where the drive is and much more.
Then go and look at the drive and folder and who has group ownership policy and more.
It would have to be a guess, plus "20 questions" but why post here? when there are Snow Leopard, iMac, and of course, iTunes, Community forums.

I've already right-clicked on the application, clicked "get info", and changed it so all people listed in the "Sharing & Permissions" section have the "read & write" privilage.
The error message is referring to your iTunes library, not your iTunes application.
You need to check and fix the permissions of the iTunes folder in your iTunes library. This is by default located in your "Music" folder.
Select the folder Music > iTunes in the Finder, right click on it or Ctrl Click and click "Get Info". At the bottom of the contextual window thatwill pop up, disclose the Sharing and Permissions brick, change your status from Read only to Read & Write. You may need to click the padlock icon to make changes. -
Please sort out the V 11.1.4 problems as I cant get iTunes to work now. You need to have a new version asap
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

Except I have iTunes. I've had it for ages. My iPod Touch is completely up to date, I've just installed the latest version of iTunes, but still, nothing. I have just opened ITunes on my Mac and the following error occurred "The iTunes Library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file.". When I setup my Mac I created a shared user area to contain my ITunes library so that I could share it with another user logged onto my Mac. However the error above gives me the impression that the library file is locked... I've checked and it does not seem to be locked under the "get info" fie information. Has anyone come across this before and found a solution?
You also need to make sure you have both read and write permission for the file, or for the whole iTunes folder for that matter. That's also done in Get Info for the file or folder concerned.
