Do you REALLY need Quicktime 7.0.4 for iPhoto 6?

Hey gang-
It says in the requirements that you need Quicktime 7.0.4 to install iLife 6, but can anyone confirm that? With all the problem reports with QT 7.0.4, I'm curious if iLife 6 will run or install without it.
Dave

HI Dave,
I do know you need it to play purchased tunes in your slideshows. Other than that, I am not sure.

  • Do you really need an IDE?

Do you really need to have an IDE for Java? Does it make things easier for a newbie?
    Thanks

I hear what you're saying... I don't think BlueJ should be used to write HelloWorld, but after compiling something basic on the command line I think it can be a decent introduction to Java.
I started programming a year ago and after a month or so of working in Notepad++ and the command line I used BlueJ until I felt I had outgrown it. It isn't anything spectacular, as you know, and is sort of buggy, but I still think it can aid in the learning of Java for someone new to the language.
In particular I think BlueJ does a nice job of emphasizing the idea of objects -- having a visual representation of your classes as little UML-like diagrams that you can interactively play with is kind of cool. Being able to right-click to create Objects and see how they interact with each other is, in retrospect, I think, probably not a bad way to learn.

  • Do you really need the shoes to make this product work?

I just saw some information on the TV about this. My question; if anyone can help with it, is do you REALLY need the shoes to make this work. I mean all it is is a little disk and a wireless plug-in for the Nano. It would really help me out if someone can tell me.

You do not need the shoes to make it work. Check out this thread for ways people have gotten the sensor to work with non-nike+ shoes: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=559827&tstart=75

  • Do You Really Need The Nike+sport shoes

Do you really need the nike+sport shoes to have the kit work or could you just buy any type of shoe and find a way to make the sensor stick?

i just cut a spot in the insole of my New Balance
high tops. (i walk/run in them because my ankles are
    weak) just remeber to calibrate.
well strengthen your ankles and start runnning!

  • Do you really need the 4-in-1 drivers

Do you really need to install the 4-in-1 drivers if you are using windows 2000pro? What I notice is that windows 2000 pro install all the drivers but the agp drivers. Ihave the K7T TURBO 2 MOTHERBOARD.

Do you have the abilty to backup or image your OS? If so bench mark your system using Sandra, PCMark and 3DMark, install the latest VIA Hyperion drivers and bench mark again.  I am confident that you will see an improvement.  The VIA drivers are written specifically for the chipset, like using Detonator drivers on NVidia cards.  If not rebuild you image from your back up.

  • Do You really Need a Screen Protector?

I'd just like to know if you really need this, the GS has a different coating on their screen than the previous models. Do these protectors really work, do you need them on your GS for insurance?

A screen protector on the new 3GS would defeat the purpose of the oleophobic coating. I have tried protectors on my Palms but I prefer bare back with the iPhone. Screen protectors are a pain to apply without leaving wrinkles and bubbles and you can never replicate the smooth feel of the glass. You will also lose a little bit of screen brightness as they will never be 100% transmitting. I carry the iPhone in my pocket with the screen facing my pants leg and my wallet on top without an unsightly bulge. I don't put keys or lose change in that pocket. I agree that if you are throwing the iphone into a bag, purse, or backpack with lots of sharp objects (like your eating utensils or Bowie knife set), a slip cover might be a good idea. I bought one but it was so tight and hard to remove that I don't use it. Maybe others can suggest a good case that preserves the slimness of the iPhone.

  • Do you really need a screen protector for iPad?

So I know the iPad 4th gens have a really durable glass screen. Do I really need a screen protector? I have a case that covers the screen. It is an incpio.

If you have a cover for it (your case) you shouldn't need a screen protector. I use Apple's Smart Cover and do not have a screen protector.

  • Do you REALLY need Space Designer and all those extra plugins/?

My quest to for answers to determine what machine (iMac or Mac Pro) to purchase for running Logic keeps producing more questions. There is so much talk in this forum about using Space Designers and other effects and plug ins (and all sorts of other hardware or software) additional to Logic. Is there something lacking in Logic's effects that necessitates Space Designers etc. or is this mostly a matter of preference, people looking for more precise/ extensive types of effects? I was hoping to utilize Logic for most of my drum, bass and synth sounds, most if not all of my reverbs and effects, and all of my mixing and mastering needs. I'd like to hear from people doing it this way-- using mostly Logic's sounds, effects and capabiliters, and if they think they are sufficient. For those who go with additional effects/plug ins, I'd like to know why -- do you feel Logic's effects are inadequate, or do you just prefer the sound of the addition plug ins?

in terms of what you get to start creating music with right off the bat, logic pro really is the most complete offer out there. it's basically like buying the equivalent of a sequencer, a mixer, a multitrack recorder, a rack of synths, samplers and drum machines, and a rack of effects, all at the same time.
the stuff it comes with right in the box varies from perfectly usable to world-class in terms of quality and creative potential.
you'll have your work cut out for you just getting up to speed on all the tools in logic in the first instance.. I don't think it's the best idea to start deciding about what 3rd party stuff you might want until you start getting your head around the gear in logic first. unless you have some specific plug ins or synths in mind that you're already familiar with and really want, get into logic first and then later go shopping for extra stuff that suits your tastes and the music that you make.
it's actually quite hilarious that in this day and age, you can easily buy, download and install some of the best sounding instruments and effects available anywhere, all in the space of a few minutes, with your trusty credit card. I can't tell you how much I like the fact that I never have to set foot in a music gear store hardly ever anymore. no more having to deal with incompetent (and stoned) frustrated guitar heros trying to sell me some rubbish from alesis that is on sale. not to mention the fact that since things went all plug-in, you basically get to chop a zero off the end of the price of what things used to cost.
apart from, uh, global warming, these are great times..

  • Terrible sales protocol on Apple TV - they don't tell you what you really need

When I bought my AppleTV I was NOT told:
    - that I needed  2011 or later manufactured Mac laptop, to be able to stream from internet.  My 2010 machine can't do it.
    - that I needed a micro USB cable, unless I wanted to find myself with a "dead" device on a Saturday night, after a failed update.
    - that I would never be able to read the serial #,  printed in miniscule black type, on black background on the device.  What happened to the famous Apple design brilliance, with this device?
Very unhappy about this product, will not recommend it to others.  Are there better places to spread the word to others, or provide actioned feedback to Apple?

The AppleTV does not require any computer to stream from the Internet.  I suspect what you really mean is that your old MAC is not support for AirPlay Mirroring.

Most people already have a microUSB cable, especially if they have other small portable electronic devices.

  • You really need to come up with a fix since it's your update that is causing thunderbird to not download email! This is ridiculous!

Like the rest of you......ever since the downloaded update, my email won't download my email from mail client. Has anyone solved this problem yet? I know some have said it's gone away on it's own, but so far not my case. I'm getting very frustrated, I thought I had found the perfect email that was close to MS Outlook and it was until this update. I really feel Thunderbird bears some responsibility for this, I know this is a free email program, but giving something for free then making it unusable isn't really very helpful. Anyone with a solution, please let me know. I depend on my email.......I'm Vendor chair for a Scottish Festival and can't deal with my vendors if I can't get my email.

Hmmm, have you tried turning off your email scanning in your anti virus program?
The number one cause of mail failure following update in anti virus software either just not coping with the new version or actively blocking it as it does not recognize the version number. People report it "goes away" as the anti virus gets an update from home marking the new version ok.
The second most common reason is that it has nothing to do with the update at all, but the mail provider has changed the connection settings required and the customer has ignored the mail they have sent or simply did not understand them.
The third reason is Thunderbird has a bug. It is rare, but does happen.
If multiple account on multiple domains(Yahoo LIVE Google etc) stop working it is almost always security software.
If a single account out of a number stops working or all accounts for a domain / Provider stop then it is a settings change.
So the first line is to disable email scanning in the anti virus and check it's firewall that Thunderbird (all versions) is allowed full access to the internet.
I would love to be able to organize fixes to this shoddy anti virus software, but there is nothing to be done. People keep paying for it and trusting it. It keep tripping them up.

  • Do I really need an optical drive (external) for my MacBook Air to install Win 7  with Bootcamp?

I have a Macbook Air (11" if it matters, the tiny one) that was purchased late last year, new.  I would like to install Bootcamp and be able to boot into Windows 7, 64 bit.  I have a Windows 7 Professional disk, which I would have to find an optical drive of some sort to install.  The Boot Camp PDF guide doesn't mention the use of any kind of USB bootable install.  In fact, I often see (on Apple support pages) that an external optical drive is required for Macbook Airs.
Is this the case?  If not, does anyone have any advice on how to make sure this goes smoothly?  I'm a bit of a newbie to Macs.   Thanks.
(Note: I didn't select my OSX operating system, but it's been updated regularly.)

Thank you Rysz, but (if you scroll up & read my original post you will discover) I don't own my new MacBook Pro...yet!  I'm just researching ahead of time to help me make the decision.  The customized MBP I have saved in my cart is over $3000 (incl the 3-yr support plan).  So it's going to take me a little bit of research before I decide or before I can really justify the purchase.
I just wanted to be prepared for all the inevitable technical / learning-curve headaches that I will experience IF I take the plunge.   And as everyone has experienced, when you're new to and making your first purchase of a different technology, and you don't know what to expect about a purchase, you ultimately get it home, set it up and find it didn't come with all the necessary interface devices, converters or cables, etc.  And of course the online purchase procedure wizard doesn't tell you or ask you what else you will need if you want to perform a specific task.
But I'm sure (if) once I do make the purchase, I will definitely be back here to pick everyone's brains!  These communities are fantastic.   Thanks again!

  • Do I really need to install ABAP stack for SLD

As far as I know, the SLD runs on the Java stack.  We're planning to install the standalone SLD server as the central SLD, to which later all the systems (ABAP, JAVA) will be connected.  I wonder if it's really necessary to install the ABAP+JAVA stack for it.  If I only install Java stack, will there be any concern in the future if however the ABAP stack become required?
    Thanks,
    Jerry

    Jerry,
SLD only need the J2EE engine. Usually you'll see SLD attached to a Solution Manager 4.0, SAP PI/XI,  BI 7.0 (BI JAVA)  or EP. These are the systems that really need a SLD to run.
Honestly I can't see any advantage in installing a standalone SLD, unless you have several SAP environments and a complex architecture.
Anyway I think you should see  these links...
