Do you recommend sharing an apple ID with my wife or using my own?

Currently my wife and I own an Ipad and have one Apple ID which we use for itunes to buy apps and songs and what not and sync to our desktop PC... however I just upgraded through AT&T to our first iphones for each of us... she is getting the free 3gs and I am getting a 4s... woo hoo!
My question is, should I set up our Iphones all with the same apple ID or should I create a separate @me IDs for each device (her iphone, my iphone and the ipad)?  There are some apps that we would like to be able to share with the Ipad so we don't have to purchase them again and it would be nice to be able to share items through Icloud through all of the devices... but I am sure my wife and I will want to have some different apps on our phones and have different amounts songs, different contacts, pictures and other data... Is it possible to have all of the differentiation within one apple ID and syncing to the same computer on the same Itunes account?  Do you have step by step directions on how to do this or can you point me in the direction of some?  I have been searching and searching online and can not find a good answer... What do you recommend?
Please let me know if you need more information on our situation to help you give the best answer... thanks for your help!

Gottcha... so we will still use the same apple id for setting up nd acivating the phones and downloading apps and such through itunes, but I should create a different @me ID for my wife's iphone, my iphone and our Ipad when setting up icloud?
So if I take a picture on my iphone, can I then see it on the ipad since it will be on a different @me ID?  Or could my wife see it on her phone?  Or does everyone have to be logged in to the same ID to see and share items?

Leave her ID alone and create a new one for yourself with your email address.

    Hi fredfromcan,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  I would recommend signing out of your Apple ID for iMessage on your son's iPhone, instructions for which are found here:
iOS: Troubleshooting FaceTime and iMessage activation
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4268
To sign out of your Apple ID
Go to Settings > FaceTime, tap your Apple ID, and select Sign Out.
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive, tap your Apple ID, and select Sign Out.
You may also want to make sure his phone number is deactivated for your Apple ID:
    iOS: Deactivating iMessage
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5185
To deregister your phone number, tap Settings > Messages and turn iMessage off.
    Cheers,

If you are using airplay then that should be fine once the content is playing. You can't use home-sharing in this manner however.

You can't transfer music purchased from the iTunes store to another ID.  You can, of course, create a new ID and start using that for purchasing your music.  Just create the ID, then go to Settings>iTunes & App Store, tap the existing ID, sign out, then sign back in with the new ID.
If your issue is that music purchased by her on her device is automatically downloading to yours, you can turn this off by going to Settings>iTunes & App Store, and turning Music off under Automatic Downloads.  Then you can continue to share the same iTunes ID without continuing to automatically download each other's purchased music.

  • HT201269 Hi. I have shared an Apple ID with my children for some time.  As they are getting older they do not wnat me seeing all their messages, photos etc so want their own accounts.  How can they access their purchased music and apps on the new account

Hi. I have shared an Apple ID with my children for some time.  As they are getting older they do not wnat me seeing all their messages, photos etc so want their own accounts.  How can they access their purchased music and apps on the new account please?

    Yes.
On their iOS devices, under Settings>iTunes & App Store, they should use your Apple ID. When they log into iCloud, iMessage and Facetime, they should use their personal Apple IDs.

  • I share an apple ID with my husband but want my own now as I have new iPhone. How do I retain all my music/apps etc?

I have been sharing an apple ID with my husband for my iPad and iPhone however I now have a new iphone and have read that I should have my own ID. If I create one with my new phone, how I do transfer across all my contacts, music, apps etc from my previous phone/ID?

You cannot download the same Apps that you have on your iPhone. They are two seperate stores.
The store you have on your iPhone is the same for any iDevice (iPad, iPhone and iPod)
The store on your MacBook is only for Macs.

    Sure.

my mac is running slow, the spinning beach ball constantly appears. it seems that when i am in the apple store with fast wifi its a bit better. genius at the apple store checked the hard drive, it's all fine. what can it be? can it be a software issue with the wifi?
also i noted that it has only been doing this since quite recently, before it was fine
    please help!

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
    Step 1
This diagnostic procedure will query the log for messages that may indicate a system issue. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'GPU |hfs: Ru|I/O e|find tok|n Cause: -|NVDA\(|timed? ?o' | tail | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, stop here and post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
    Step 2
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
Run Software Update. If there's a firmware update, install it.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
If you have a portable computer, check the cycle count of the battery. It may be due for replacement.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane. See whether there's any change.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you have a MacBook Pro with dual graphics, disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saverpreference pane for better performance at the cost of shorter battery life.
    Step 3
When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the View menu or the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for User, System, and Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the Memory tab. What value is shown in the bottom part of the window for Swap used?
Next, select the Disk tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in andWrites out.)
    Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

Are it's amazing what going to the apple classes can do for you, lol the problem was air play has turned off no doubt when the upgrades were done, but thanks to the training apple gave me I was able to reason the problem out yah! I love my apple.

  • Does it matter if you are sharing one email account with two phone numbers

I am trying to facetime with my wife. We share the same email. but have two different phone numbers. on her end it says she is unavailable for facetime. Any help would be great. Thanks.

The 'extension' cords are all compatible with all of the power bricks for Apple portables (PowerBooks, MacBooks, MacBook Pros, etc.). I also have several from many generations (back to early PowerBooks) and I use them all interchangeably with current adapters (in various rooms at home, at work, etc.).
(As a side note, they are not compatible with the iPod power bricks, but that's not relevant for you.)

  • How can I share an Apple ID with my wife or Can I use one Apple ID for two iPhones?

My wife got her iPhone 4 before I got my iPhone 4s. To make things easier, I allowed her to use my Apple ID and iTunes to sync/backup her iPhone.  Now that I have an iPhone 4s... I would like to keep sharing the Apple ID and its associated content (be it apps, music, etc) but I would like our contacts and other individuals items to be kept separate.  What is the best solution for this situation?  Ultimately I want to avoid having to make yet another iTunes account/Apple ID and because we are married we share everything already.  Thanks for the help!

Thanks.  I was afraid it would be something like that.  I bought it off my NIH grant from Apple, so there is no problem proving ownership.  Since I can easily live without iPhoto and iMovie on that computer, I probably won't bother, unless it prevents me from updating the OS when 10.9 comes out.  The strange thing is I can update stuff like Xcode (which I absolutely need) without a problem.  It appears to be just the apps that Apple both sells and provides with a new computer

  • When I bought my ipad i set it up using an itunes account name that my sons and I shared for music. Now I want to use my own appleid on the purchases for my ipad. I know my apple id and my password but dont know how to switch it on the ipad itself

When I bought my ipad I used my family apple id that allowed us to share the itunes and pay with one card. (mine).  now my sone's apple id is connected to my ipad and I cannot change the password, nor purchase a book. I have reset my password and have my own apple id.  How do I link it on the ipiad with the itunes etc?  I am willing to "lose" the music I have purchased on my itunes account if that is what must happen. I believe that is why I did it in the first place but now I regret that choice.

Settings>Store (or iTunes & App Stores if you are running iOS6)>Apple ID. Tap your son's ID and sign out. Sign in with your ID and password.
You shouldn't lose the music, but if you try to update any apps that you bought with the family ID, you will have to use that password that is linked with that ID in order to update.
Avoid downloading past purchased content with the old ID if you can since you will associate the iPad with the old ID for 90 days and you will lock yourself out of your own, new ID for that period of time. Read more about associated devices in iTunes here.

  • Even with "Allow pages to use their own fonts" enabled, firefox sill dictates fonts on some sites. WTF.

I built my website to show some work I did, everything was fine in firefox 3.6 but i upgraded today and now the font styles i wrote into the page are being overridden somehow.
Yes, i checked allow pages to use their own fonts.

That should work unless the specified font is missing or corrupted and in that case you need to (re)install that font.
