Do You Take Your Macbook Everywhere?

As a college student and young adult, i always find myself in situations when i yell, "I Wish I Had My MacBook For This!"
...But I never bring it along. Even though I own that cool black sling backpack by incase from the Apple Store.
So i'm asking, do you take it pretty much with you? If so, do you consider it a hassle and examples on such reasons you might need it?

I take it everywhere, every day. I teach in the mornings and late afternoons, and have a few hours each day to do my own work, but not enough time to go home, so I go to a coffee shop and pull out my macbook. I usually let it sleep while I travel around all day on buses and trams, and it's almost a year old and in great condition. I have a la robe sleeve and a timbuktu messenger bag, and the notebook rides in the bag with books and other things. I absolutely love it, and my only wish is that it was lighter. I'm waiting with bated breath for the ultraportable version!

  • If you take your ipad everywhere, do you need an iphone or an ipod touch?

If you really like the ipad and take it with you everywhere, do you really now need a smartphone like an iphone or an ipod touch. The ipad has all the apps the iphone or ipod touch has and its a larger screen. Why would now use your phone for anything put making phone calls. If so, why not get a much cheaper phone with your ipad. The same holds for the ipod touch.

Currently, receiving calls on Skype requires that the app be active.
There is a way to make that work when other apps are running. I do it all the time on my iPhone. Unfortunately, I can't discuss how I do it, here.

  • If you take your Macbook Air in to a store to have its battery serviced, is it done ASAP or does it take days?

  • Do you Shutdown your Macbook regularly?

I wanted to know if you Shutdown your Macbook regularly. I am speaking about when you will not be using for few hours.
Someone mentioned to me that he never shuts-down his ibook, for days, he just closes the lid and let i go to sleep. And i am told with the lid closed but the power on it is safe to travel in a car or take a flight with the laptop.
I know with the lid closed the battery draning should not be a issue, as power consumption is minimal. But is it ok for HD or other components... while travelling.

OOPS! One comment added to mine... UNIX regularly
performs maintenance and cleanup, typically at
pre-dawn hours. Now, I have read this somewhere. That
would make one want to leave the computer powered-up
all night. UNIX would even perform this while the
    computer is in ''sleep'' mode.
Someone more knowledgeable than me can better comment
on this since I'm relying on something I read a while
    back.
Yes and no. The OS does do some maintenance tasks in the wee hours, but it won't when the computer is sleeping. Sleep is like off, except it provides power to the RAM, so the RAM state is saved in actual RAM, and you get "instant" on. Indeed these days off is not so much off as it is a lower-power state than sleep.
And you don't have to leave it on all night every night. For the average user using a Mac as a personal computer, once a week is plenty, once a month is probably enough.

Verizon is using the Elipsis tablets to steal data from their customers.  The only way to stop data from registering as cellular data is to pull the SIM card.  This occurs with wifi enabled and cellular, dara disabled.  If,you take your tablet to a Verizonstore they will upgrade your data plan to cover the overage and credit the upgrade.  You will then have to remember to downgrade your plan or continue to pay for more data.  Verizon, how would you feel if I walked into one of your stores and started filling my pockets with merchandise?  If cought can I just give the product back and say "oops, sorry"

Today, my FCC complaint hit the same person working on the BBB complaint.  Jimmie has been very nice and seems willing to work with this problem.  We have been able to come to an agreement.  I paid the purchase price for the phone and he returned my upgrade and unlimited data plan.  This is what would have occurred if Verizon had given me correct information to begin with.  I am happy with this result.  He also brought quite a few instances concerning the handling of my transfer and upgrade that did not follow proper procedure.  I am also confident that I would not have resolved this without complaining to BBB and or FCC.  Verizon had no interest in solving the problem nor did they show any propensity to keeping a 20 year client.  Even though this last CSR was very polite and helpful, his sole job is to respond to formal Federal and State complaints.  He is required by law to address every complaint and report the reporting agency the agreed upon results - good or bad.  Again, I suggest - If you are not getting the proper customer service, complain to someone outside of Verizon.  Jimmie had not received any complaints registered with Verizon directly and I still have not had any contact with any other management representative that I was told would call.

  • How do you restore your macbook to original settings?

how do you restore your macbook to original settings?

Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch
If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.
If you upgraded from an earlier version of OS X such as Snow Leopard, the procedure you want is not this one. Let me know.

  • How do you take your address book from your phone to your computer

how do you take your address book from your phone to your computer

Have you ever synced your iPhone with your Mac?
If so, there are various tabs for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes for transferring your selected music, podcasts, photos, movies, tv shows, etc.
Under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes is where you select syncing contacts direct with the Address Book on your Mac.
If the Address Book on your Mac is empty, follow the instructions included with my previous post.

  • Where Did You Get Your MacBook?

For those that have a MacBook, where did you purchase it from? Even with the student discount, purchasing from the Apple store doesn't provide any savings because of the taxes (~$84.00 in NY). I know Amazon.com sells it, but it's pre-order.

No need to get defensive. I wasn't saying that people shouldn't use the Apple Store. I was saying that unless Apple recognises your problems as problems, they will not do anything for you. That is to say, issues such as heat, whine and other common issues people worry about here on this forum will not be addressed by the Apple Store geniuses because they don't consider these problems out of specifications. This also means that if you have these issues and decide you can't live with them, you most probably will not be able to return a macbook of MBP to them without a restocking fee.
Believe me, I was amazed that they were so unwilling to consider not charging me a restocking fee. I was very calm, told them about the issues (whine, heat, loose battery, warped lid) and told them that over the past 15 years as an Apple user I have never felt disappointed with an Apple product except for this one. I told them that I have purchased items for tens of thousands of dollars from Apple over the years and asked them if they would at least consider charging me just half the restocking fee given that these are problems SO MANY people are having. There are OBVIOUSLY issues with the MBPs. The guy (who claimed to be the 'lead' rep there) refused and told me, in the same breath, how much they 'love' my business, pointing me in the direction of the checkout so I could line up to get refund, minus the $200 fee for beta testing. How insulting and disingenuous is that!
There are stores that will accept your claim that an item is defective. Since Apple is the mothership they decide what is within spec while some other stores just trust you when you say your notebook has excessive heat problems or whines and therefore needs to be returned. Given the many problems reported, I would recommend anybody to buy from a store with a more generous and no hassle return policy. Getting an exchange will not help if all units have the same problems....

Make a weird (excuse my impression) "Reee orr reee rahh rahhh" sound! :P
The same sound it makes when you put a CD in? Is this a normal sound?
    Does everyones do it?
Why does it make this unattractive sound? Ive never had a laptop that does it before...
And when you show your friends your macbook they go wowwww until you press on :P

I assume you mean when you press the "on" button? Easy way to avoid this. Put the Mac to sleep instead of turning it off. Then when you open it up to show it off to your friends, it will flash on and, presumably, not make that sound.
The sound it's making is likely the hard drive coming to life, which it needs to do if it's been shut down and off for a while.

Like, if you reset the computer will apps like system prefs and safari be there
Also, i would like to reset my computer and i have ILife installed, if i reset it, will ILife still be there?
Because ILife came pre-installed with the computer and i do not have the disk
    Thanks guys
    Pat,

I just performed a reinstall of my OS and data on my MBP and this is the procedure I used.
I cloned the MBP using Carbon Copy Cloner to an external HDD.  The clone has all of the data on that external HDD, including all applications and the OS.  In addition it can boot the MBP.
I then used a previously made OS thumb drive and opened Disk Utility>Erase and formatted the internal HDD to Mac OS Extended (Journaled).  You can achieve the same result by accessing the Recovery Partition and use Disk Utility from the four part menu.
I then reinstalled the OS.  You would do the same from the four part menu in the recovery partition.
I then connected the clone to the MBP and transferred my data, including all applications that were not included in the OS reinstallation.  In your case, this would be the iLfe applications as well.
Backups are important if you value your data.
    Ciao.

  • What happens when you take your iPod into the apple store for battery replacement?

I am taking mine in tomorrow. How do they decide if your battery is bad enough to get the iPod/battery replaced? What do they do with your iPod? Do they mess with the apps and data?? Do they search your history to see what you've done on it? HELP!

By reading the following, Apple exchanges your iPod for a refurbished (includes new battery) iPod. Data is no preserved/restore to the replacement
Apple - Support - iPod - Service FAQ
Will the data on my iPod be preserved?
No. You will receive a replacement iPod that will not contain any of your data, songs, or after-market personalizations. Before you submit your iPod for service, it is your responsibility to keep a separate backup copy of the data stored on your iPod and reinstall that data.
Attention iPod touch customers: Before obtaining service, it is important to back up your data using iCloud or iTunes. Apple is not responsible for the loss of information while servicing your iPod touch and does not offer any data transfer service.
Following service your replacement iPod touch may have a newer operating system (iOS) version and you will need to restore your data using the method used to back it up (iCloud or iTunes). As a result, you may also need to update your App Store applications to ensure compatibility with the newer iOS. If you experience a problem with an application purchased from the App Store, check iTunes to see if an update is available or contact the application vendor directly.
However, I have heard in this forum that sometimes Apple will just replace the battery.
If you are concerned I would do one fine sync/backup and then go to Settings>General>Reset>Ease aall content and settings.
