Do you think our Flash game has a chance on Kickstarter (playable demo)

So me and my friend have been working on a game and recently we made it so far that we decided to launch a Kickstarter. Last Jungle In Sector 17 is a new take on the traditional top-down view space shooter with added RTS elements, some of the games we relate to are SPAZ, Star Control and classic Asteroids.
Here's our project: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1396394944/last-jungle-in-sector-17/
And here's the game: http://ljis17.com/prototype/
I wouldn't say we are doing anywhere near great as of now on Kickstarter, I'm doubting that we even reach the goal. We wanted to go in safe, small goal, playable demo (with easy access to it), reasonable backer rewards... I noticed the small visibility right after launch, but following a post on Reddit I calmed down a little. Well 10 days later we are still struggling to get attention, I sent out a letter to 65+ gaming news sites - 1 responses as of now (0 articles), also sent a review request to about 100 Youtubers who do review videos - got 2 'first impressions' vids. In that 10 days we have managed to get 3,369 video views (3000 of them in the first 2 days after launch) and 45 people have backed the project.
We have done all the regular: Homepage, Greenlight, Demo, Facebook, Twitter, Forum posts, IndieDB... We have gotten some good response from people who have tried out the game, but I guess it is just too average of a game.
Are the news outlets avoiding Kickstarter projects because the market is so over saturated or are people turned off when they hear the words "Flash game"? Either way our "Indie Dream" is slowly turning into "Indie Reality" which is fine, definitely smarter now and in the future. I still think that Flash is a great platform, maybe the testament to that should be the number of Flash games out there.
Well, let us know what are your thouhgts on all this and what you think of the game

Hi Javi,
This sounds like an issue with Windows and your specific Bluetooth devices.  As you mentioned, the LV Bluetooth VI's do require that the devices use the Windows drivers.  Take a look at this link for specific requirements for using Bluetooth with LabVIEW.  Also, you can take a look at our Developer Zone tutorial on designing Bluetooth applications a found here.  Regarding your device drivers, sometimes it is as easy as uninstalling the driver and then letting Windows discover the device and fine its own driver.  You could check out the Microsoft Knowledgebase for more information.  Thanks and have a great day!

  • What do you think of Olympic game in Beijing ?

    Hi,
I'm very happy for the Olympic game bit in my country. What do you think of the game? What's your impression about the open ceremony?

It was a stunning opening but...
...given the rumours that the girl singing at the opening was not really singing because she was not beautyful enough (in German: http://www.spiegel.de/panorama/0,1518,571507,00.html)
...given the rumours, that the fireworks fed into international TV channels were "modified" (in German: http://www.bild.de/BILD/news/vermischtes/2008/08/10/china-faelscht-feuerwerk/olympia-eroeffnungsfeier.html)
....given the fact, that the IOC made that rotten compromise about "free internet access" (in German: http://www.spiegel.de/sport/sonst/0,1518,569280,00.html)
then I really wonder if that aspiration for total perfection isn´t overshooting the mark.
I´m not saying it´s all bad but it leaves at least a very bitter aftertaste. I think that it would be better to not try to "bigger-better-monumentally" but "honest-open-without-censorship".

  • Flash game has control key glitch in FF4?

This flash game: Dogfight 2 at Rock Solid Arcade has worked fine until I upgraded to Firefox 4.
The problem is this: it uses the CONTROL key to drop bombs. This part of the game doesn't work. Pushing the CONTROL key doesn't do anything.
The game still works in Safari.
    I'm on a Mac, os 10.5.8
Does Firefox use the Control key for something else? Reserve it?
    Thanks.

Could be your keyboard problem or something corrupted on the

Hand tool as activated with space bar (temporary) or the H
    key. I have been
using CTRL Z and CTRL - + and have never experience this
    problem even once.
Just today I spent about 9 hours of continues work on a
    project, not even once...

  • Firefox thinks Adobe Flash Plugin has crashed when running in debug mode! How do i get arround this?

When testing my flex application in debug mode, my debug session is closed every time because Firefox thinks the flash plug-in has crashed.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== Firefox was updated with plugin-crash redundancy

You can also set the pref dom.ipc.plugins.timeoutSecs to -1 to disable the timeout.

Call of duty black ops has come out on mac, and the system requirements say 2.4ghz is needed, i only have 2.3ghz, do you think the game will run okay? thank you

This is too generic of a statement. They are working on support for the 2012 MacBook Pros and because of the better architecture in the 2012 machines a 2.3GHz machine may perform well.

  • Can you grow up please and let us have our flash, I am sick of it.

SSteve jobs is dead, can you give your foolish customers their money's worth that we can get for free via the Boss, android.  You think you can package our desires but you have failed by not being relevant, because i still have to borrow an android to finish my studies which

Adobe has stopped developing the mobile version of Flash, and laid off everyone who was working on it. No current or future iOS device will have it.

    Hi juderocks14,
Please first take a check with the other Players and see if they could play the MP4 file normally. If it can't be played, which means it might be corrupted. You may ask at the Bandicam side, or save the files again.
If issue insists, take a try with the Troubleshooter (For Windows 7, 8 and 8.1):
Open the Windows Media Player Settings troubleshooter
Fix Windows Media Player video, and other media or library issues
Or you may try to turn Windows Features on or off to reset Windows  Media Player:
Turn Windows features on or off (Before turn it on again, please remember to reboot first)

What happens if I turn off Windows Media Player?

  • Do you have to pay royalty fees to use mp3 files in a Flash game?

I'm looking at developing a Flash game but I am aware there are licensing fees involved with using mp3 files, and we seem to only be able to use mp3 files through Actionscript and Flashpunk. So my question is, will we have to pay any royalty fees, or does Adobe have that covered?

Regarding i-tunes match, a lot of music in my library is burned CDs (mostly imports) some "well most" are not available on i-Tunes U.S. So, if I use this service, I am thinking the majority of my library  will not be available to sync on all my devices.   Is this a proper assumption.
No. The idea of iTunes Match is that everything in your library is available to sync.
If it does match, the song in iTunes store is used.
If it does not match, the song on your computer is used and that is uploaded to the cloud to sync to yoru devices.
iCloud is not available for Mac OS previous to Lion.

  • Update to Flash Player 11 has caused our Flash content to crash the Flash Player plugin. Why?

I work for a health and safety training company and we've create a SCORM compliant course using Flash that has been imported into Absorb LMS (our own instance of it www.astutis-elearning.com).  There are nine modules in the course each developed using Flash Professional CS5.5.
These all worked fine using the Flash Player 10.3 plugin but since the Flash Player update to 11 our modules (not all Flash content) crash the plugin at certain places.  Some modules load fine and then crash later, some modules get through the preloader scene and then crash as soon as it gets to the main menu.  We've done some testing and don't know if it could be a Flash component that is causing the issue.  At any rate, they used to work with 10.3 and they don't work with 11.  We've tried on a number of machines and browsers.  Its the same on all of them.
I am prepared to provide a login for people willing to help to see what is causing the problem.
This is an important issue as we have people who are currently on the course that may not be able to complete the course if they upgrade their version of Flash to the latest version.  I hope I have provided enough information.  Let me know if you need any more.

    Paul and DevChaz,
Like you, I am a Flash Developer at a company that creates eLearning.  Therefore, I assume that the way that we use Flash is very similar.  I was quite excited as I read through this thread since I have been experiencing very similar browser crashes in my newer courses since FP11 came out.  Like you, we have recently upgraded to CS5.5.
All of my crashes are with AS2 courses.  I would be curious to know if yours are AS2 or AS3.
Anyway, I took my use case, saved the flas down to CS4 and recompiled all the swfs.  This did not fix the problem as it did for you (see DevChaz's earlier post in this thread dated Oct 12, 2011 4:46 PM).
I have my problem logged in the Adobe BugBase here:
    https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3018637
    fpMonster,
I have recently added my cs4 versus cs5.5 compiled use_case on bugbase.  I am hoping that you'll look at this use_case and compare it to PaulGray's use_case to see why my use_case does NOT work correctly when compiled in a lower version of the Flash IDE.  In addition, perhaps you could share notes regarding this issue with someone at BugBase.  Thanks in advance.

  • Do you think apple ipad will ever allow flash player?

It has now become a marketing point for the blackberry... <flash ah ah...> lol
But seriously, now more and more tablets will start to allowing flash, it's becoming quite a substantial selling point
My girlfriend actually wants to get rid of her ipad and get a play book... or whatever its called, she loved her ipad to begin with, but has got a bit frustrated when she cant watch movies from the sites she can use on her laptop...
So now the competitors are taking the edge off by offering flash player, do you think the next generation of ipad will also offer this?

Thanks king, thats a great article that I had never read before... it sound like they never intend to support flash unless Flash becomes more stable
So what I really want to know now is more related to the play book, have adobe produce a flash player that performs better and doesnt crash for the play book and if it does crash, does it bring down the entire play book, the entire browser, or just the tab that the player is currently running in << this will be a question for play book users (I'll have to find out the answers from them, unless someone here has tried it)

  • Flash video has not worked with Firefox browser for years. When will you fix this?

Anyone who uses Firefox browser (for Windows or for Mac) knows that flash video playback ceased working sometime around Firefox ver 13 and has not worked since.
The Mozilla people say it is Adobe's fault - instead of fixing Firefox.
They say roll back to Adobe Flash version 10.
This solves the video problem, but then, any other services that depend on the latest Flash build, quit working properly.
This situation leaves millions of Firefox users in perpetual frustration. We can't use our browser of choice to view any web video built with Flash.
This is so unacceptable. I am unable to understand why Adobe and Firefox don't get together and iron out whatever code incompatibility is causing this.
I would really like to hear Adobe's explanation for this.

Uh... I don't know what planet you posted this from, but Flash video has worked flawlessly with Firefox for hundreds of millions of users here on earth, without any gaps since Firefox was still called Mozilla.
For the record, I have Firefox 28 with Flash Player 13 installed on:
    WIndows XP (SP3-64bit)
    Windows Vista Ultimate (SP2-64bit)
    Windows 7 Ultimate (SP1-64bit)
    Windows 8 Enterprise (64bit-2 machines)
    Windows 8.1 Enterprise (64 bit)
    OS 0.6.8 Server
    OS10.7.5
    OS10.8.5
    OS10.9.2
And I've had Firefox with Flash Player since 2003 on both OS formats. I've never had a compatibility problem.
I also use Chrome, IE, Opera, Safari and a few other browsers you probably never heard of (like SeaMonkey, Maxthon, Waterfox, iCab, OmniWeb)... Flash works in all of them.
I'd have to say the problem is with your system specifically, because if it was a Firefox/Flash compatibility problem, there would have been hundreds of millions of complaints about it, for over a decade. That... just isn't the case.

  • How do you create a flash in game popup on the same frame?

How do you create a flash in game popup on the same frame?
I need to make a popup in flash on the same frame. Basiclly like you reach the frame and randomly (I know how to do random stuff) a popup might appear saying like you got a prize; and I want the stuff in the back to stay the same.
    Please help me!
    Thankx in advance.

Whatever frame you intend to make this movieclip appear in, you first set it to be invisible using...
popupName._visible = false; // popupName is whatever instance name you use
And for whatever random code you use to trigger it to appear you just set the _visible property to be true...
    popupName._visible = true;

  • Can you help with a misplaying online Flash game?

I don't know if this question is appropriate for this forum, but here's taking a chance, and I hope you can help.
A Flash game I play at discovery.com worked fine about a year ago. I stopped playing it for several months, and then went back to it.
When I went back to it it didn't play fully any more. It gets to a certain level, then hangs at the same spot every time (some screens download but not enough components to play the game).
I clear my cache every day, so it's not that. I've updated Firefox (twice since the problem started), so it's not that. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Flash player - same problem happens. I've tried disabling my add ons - no change. I've tried two other browsers, and the game either stops at the same point, or earlier. I've tried allowing the relevant cookies; doesn't seem to make a difference.
I've tried messing with Adobe's Flash Global Settings, trying them in different configurations (allowing everything, allowing nothing, and every switch in between); no help.
I fiddle with my security settings sometimes and wonder if I changed some default setting that is blocking something, or some automated security upgrade in the later browser(s) is doing something.
I don't seem to have any other Flash problems on my computer (videos play fine); the "test" at Adobe.com works. I have the latest version.
I'm no technie so if you have an idea, thanks for your input.

Please check if all your plugins are up-to-date. To do this, go to the [http://mozilla.com/plugincheck Mozilla Plugin Check site].
Once you're there, the site will check if all your plugins have the latest versions.
If you see plugins in the list that have a yellow ''Update'' button or a red ''Update now'' button, please update these immediately.
To do so, please click each red or yellow button. Then you should see a site that allows you to download the latest version. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation and follow the steps mentioned in the installation procedure.
