    Depends on what surface it falls and from what height. But i think it will break almost as easy as without the case.

  • I have OSX 10.7.5, my idvd is not working correctly.  Should I re-download this version again , do you think that it will help to improve the idvd operation?

    I have OSX 10.7.5 on my imac, my idvd is not working correctly.  Should I re-download this version again , do you think that it will help to improve the idvd operation?

    First, iDVD is not and never has been part of OS X. If iDVD is not working correctly, then you should investigate possible problems with that application, support files, preferences, or cache.
    Of course you can always reinstall OS X if you wish:
    Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
    When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
    Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

    If covered by warranty. See:

  • What you think of this workstation

    Hi every one, I would like to get some advice of laptop workstation for video editing and after effect projects files.
    Do you think that
    HP Elitebook 8770w Mobile Workstation
    4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 SDRAM
    500 GB 7200 rpm SATA II
    AMD FirePro™ M4000 (1 GB dedicated GDDR5)
    Or this Workstation
    HP EliteBook 8560w Mobile Workstation
    Genuine Windows® 7 Professional (64-bit)
    Intel® Core™ i7-2860 QM Processor
    8GB Memory
    750GB  Hard drive
    39.6cm,15.6" HD Display
    NVIDIA Quadro 2000M graphics 2GB
    Wireless, Bluetooth, Webcam , DVD+/-RW
    with it handle the randreing of HD and 4K footages in AE & PR?
    Thank you

    Neither of those two laptops is anywhere near powerful enough for 4K (and barely powerful enough for ordinary HD), unfortunately. (If you take look at the results list on the PPBM5 site, you will find that the fastest mobile-CPU-equipped laptop on the list is more than three times slower than a fast desktop PC in terms of the Relative Performance Index, or RPI.) The first laptop listed should be eliminated (as equipped) due to its insufficient amount of RAM and a GPU that cannot utilize MPE GPU acceleration at all. And since you did not list a CPU for the 8770w, I would have to assume that it has only a dual-core i5 CPU based on the lesser specs of that configuration. And based on my testing, no dual-core CPU - not even a desktop dual-core CPU - performs as fast as even a mediocre-performing quad-core CPU in CS5 or CS6.
    The 8560w configuration, on the other hand, is slightly older, and it still delivers a poor bang for the buck.
    So, if you were to custom-configure that 8770w, go with only a CPU whose model number ends in "QM" or "XM", one of the Quadros (the FirePro cannot utilize MPE GPU acceleration at all, and thus permanently locking CS6 to the software-only mode) and 16GB of RAM (yes, laptops really need all that RAM just to perform anywhere near as well as even a "budget"-class desktop). Also, you will need more than one fast hard drive just to run Premiere Pro to anyone's satisfaction (since all mobile hard drives use the SATA connection that cannot transfer in both directions simultaneously - they can only transfer in one direction at a time, but editing requires simultaneous bi-directional transfers).

  • I think that this is a bug in text field!

    Hi!
    Steps:
    1.create Frame
    2.create text field (textFieldTest1) and add in frame
    3.create text field (textFieldTest2) and add in frame.
    4. show frame
    5.enter some text in textFieldTest1 and stay here.
    6.Minimize frame.
    7.Open again frame
    8.The caret is invisible in textFieldTest1. I double click in textFieldTest1 but caret don't show. I can enter text again in textFieldTest1 but caret is invisible. I press left and right arrows in textFieldTest1 and enter text, but caret is invisible.It's very confuse.
    9.Click mouse in textFieldTest2
    10.Click mouse in textFieldTest1 and caret is now visible.
    I think that this is a bug in swing.
    What are think about this?
    Thank you.

    I meant for you to include code that I could cut and paste and execute to see if I had the same problem on my machine. I had to play with the code you gave to get it to compile. Make it easy for me to test. Anyway I did get it to compile and again it did work for me. here is the code I ended up testing:
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    import javax.swing.event.*;
    public class Main extends JFrame
         public Main()
    super("Time");
    setBounds(300, 200, 400, 200);
    Container cont = this.getContentPane();
    cont.setLayout(new GridBagLayout());
    setDefaultCloseOperation(this.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
    JTextField textField1 = new JTextField(10);
    cont.add(textField1);
    cont.add(new JLabel("label1"));
    JTextField textField2 = new JTextField(10);
    cont.add(textField2);
    cont.add(new JLabel("label2"));
    setVisible(true);
         public static void main(String[] args)
              JFrame frame = new Main();

  • What do you think of this Design for Multiple Threads

    Hi Java Experts ;
    I'm curious to know what you think about this design for a multhreaded app i'm working on.
    I have a controller thread that (a.) creates threads and (b.) keeps a reference to threads that it creates (by sticking them in a hashtable along with the generated Id for that thread).
    When a created thread completes its job, it decrements the thread counter and removes its reference from the hashtable before it finishes its run method.
    Now here's the interesting part in my controller thread i'm creating new threads on the fly with this infinite loop
         public void run(){
              while(true){
                   try{
                        Thread.sleep(500);
                   }catch(InterruptedException e){
                   if(threadCounter<maxThreadCount && moreJobsToDo.size()>0){
                        createDomainThread();
              }//end while
    what do you think about this pattern ? My goal is to maintain about 200+ created threads running at all times with this pattern.

    jeff kesslerman's book says about threads
    "5.2.3 Threads
    The impact that threads have on RAM footprint isn't a problem for most programs, but running threads do need space to store their stack state, and the system- specific data structures do consume memory.
    Because runtime implementations vary widely in how threads are handled, you might encounter situations where the impact threads have on footprint is significant. For example, some ports of the JRE create a heavyweight OS process for each running thread. In an application that uses many threads, this means that thread costs, rather than class or object costs, can become the dominant factor in the program's memory consumption.
    You shouldn't avoid using threads-they're necessary in many cases, and generally don't have a large impact on footprint. However, you should be aware that the impact can be very different across runtimes. This is one of the reasons it's a good idea to measure performance characteristics under your program's different target environments. "
    Question #1: how does garbage collection go about clearing the stack state, and the system- specific data structures that consume memory.
    Question #2: in my situation, each worker thread's activity is not as brief as a simple server request. Each thread does a lot work and does a lot of network connections. on average I would say 100 http request - each of which can be easily blocked or delayed significantly. Therefore each worker thread may operate for between 2 - 10 minutes.
    Do you think thread pooling is useful in this situation ?

    +"A lithium-ion battery provides 300-500 discharge/charge cycles. The battery prefers a partial rather than a full discharge. Frequent full discharges should be avoided when possible. Instead, charge the battery more often or use a larger battery. There is no concern of memory when applying unscheduled charges"+
    Seems to make sense..
    I knew that lithium-ion batteries have no memory concerns, but still I thought that it was a good idea to charge and discharge the battery of a new iPod (or laptop) at least the first time..
    Any thoughts?
    Message was edited by: acidbahia

    The reason it's sometimes recommended to do a full discharge/charge cycle on a new device is to calibrate the battery indicator. It doesn't do anything for the battery itself.
    The quote you've given agrees with everything I've been taught about lithium-ion batteries.

  • My IPod no longer shuffles songs within playlists that are clearly set to shuffle.  It is about 3/4 full so I thought of maybe compressing the files to get more space.  Do you think that is the problem and if that might help?

    My IPod no longer shuffles songs within playlists that are clearly set to shuffle.  It is about 3/4 full so I thought of maybe compressing the files to get more space.  Do you think that is the problem and if that might help?

    Storage space on the iPod would not affect shuffled playlists or playlist shuffling, though substantially full iPods may wind up skipping songs on larger playlists after a while, and require a restart.  As for compressing the files themselves, you can automatically re-encode files to a lower bitrate by checking the box on the summary page when your iPod is connected to your PC/Mac.
    As for the shuffle problem, after restarting your iPod (hold the center button and Menu for a few seconds, until the Apple logo appears), make sure you're telling the iPod to shuffle the songs in a playlist by repeatedly clicking the center button until the Suffle Menu comes up, then scroll to the right to turn it on.  From that song forward, the playlists' contents should be shuffled every time the playlist ends, or is accessed from a new song.
    Shuffle does sometimes turn itself off, I've found, so double-check the setting is still on.  Also, iPods shuffle by randomly assigning a playlist order for your songs, which is different from traditional shuffle (on, say, iTunes or Windows Media Player, where the new song is determined at random upon the current track ending.  The iPod only chooses a random order of songs when you shuffle, to conserve battery life and queue up songs coming up on the playlist in the event of a shock).

    Office 2004 Applications Won't Work in Lion
    You must have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite and will not work in Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion.
    You may want to consider as well:
    These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
    And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
    Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
    Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
    (Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)

    Yes, I know that, but it was easier to see it on the Iphone self, like the other company phones. The name of the picture taken should be the date when it was taken.
