Do you trust Lenovo updates?

I've been pretty well pleased with the T530 I got in September.   The ThinkVantage Tools popped up a few months ago and told me I should update the audio driver.  After I did that the sound was horrible, weak, flat and tinny. The Dolby Advance Audio v2 that came on the computer was gone.  After hours and hours of frustration, I somehow wound up with Realtek Enhanced Audio, which is not as good as the Dolby but better than what I'd been hearing.
I'd still like to get Dolby Adv Audio v2 back (if not Dolby Home Theatre v4) per this thread:
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T530-need-to-reinstall-Dolby-Advanced-Audio...
and this one:
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/General-Discussion/Dolby-Home-Theater-v4-for-most-Lenovo-Laptops/td-p/62...
A few days ago Lenovo suggested updating Access Connections and the Fingerprint reader.
Since then Access Connections has been flaky, doesn't work half the time, and often fails to connect.  And I can't figure out a way to go back to what I had before, which was working fine.
The fingerprint reader now seems sluggish and very slow to open, fails to read a finger scan much more often than before, and now it frequently requires 2 or 3 successful scans before opening a web page.  Again, I don't see a way to go back to the previous version, which worked pretty well.
That's 3-for-3 Lenovo-recommended updates that have left me worse off.  What's the deal?

I too have seen problems created by updating. I have not updated everything on mine that has been release.
- Bluetooth driver
- Nvidia GPU package (a long time debugging it presumably) I arrived at my own solution and sticking to it. Some people have indicated a bug in some BIOS releases and unable to circumvent the problem bricking the motherboard. This should automatically fall into a warranty repair for any system/series regardless of age.
There should be driver preinstalled packages of the earlier sets in a onboard folder from which the system was built up from. Located and reinstall from there.  Check the SWTOOLS folder for one or others for original versions. You may have to uninstall the existing package and device first though.
I have back off into rushing into anything new. Especially when its working as it is and my performance is acceptable.

  • Getting Message: "Do you trust this content to connect to the internet? Yes or No" . How do I get rid of this?

I have created a set of lessons in Captivate 5. Since the Adobe update of Flash Player to version 15 whenever we launch a new activity from the menu we are prompted by a popup which asks: 'Do you trust this content to connect to the internet? Yes or No'. None of the content requires an internet connection. Are others having this issue? How can we get rid of it?
    Thanks

Most likely, you have a web plugin that depends on the Java runtime distributed by Apple, such as the Facebook video calling plugin or the "NexDef" plugin for watching baseball streams. If you no longer need the plugin, remove it. Otherwise, install Java.

  • T420 (4236) - Lenovo Update Retreiver is missing the Intel Wireless Driver Package

    Hi,
I'm using Lenovo Update Retreiver with ThinInstaller. We got our new model T420 and got everything except the driver for Intel Wireless Driver.
The new version Power Manager 3.62 is also fail. Missing information and won't install.
    Could you please add it!

After seeing the above comment, I again tried to update Power Manager on my 3 ThinkPads, without success.
On my R500 running Windows 7 professional with SP1, Update Retriever (version 4.02.0011) still fails to download the package for Power Manager version 3.62. Of interest here is that when you try to list the details for this package, you still get a blank screen. If you try to bypass Update retriever, and go with System Update (version 4.01.0015) directly,  the update still fails with message "1 package did not download".
On an R500, running Windows XP SP3, Power Manager (version 1.99j) still fails with similar messages. Update Retriever (version 4.02.0011) still reports "1 update failed to be downloaded" and System Update (version 3.15.0017) still reports "1 package did not download".
On an R61, running Windows XP SP3, Power Manager (version 1.99j) still fails with similar messages. Update Retriever (version 4.02.0011) still reports "1 update failed to be downloaded" and System Update (version 3.15.0017) still reports "1 package did not download".
I know that I can update these packages manually, but the point is that System Update and Update Retriever still cannot process this update. I use the update logs within System Update to keep track of what has been installed. Doing the update manually defeats that purpose.

  • Windows 8 - VPN 720 error after installing some of the lenovo updates

    Hi,
I have T530 and windows 8 x64 on it, I have noticed that after some time of using it I was unable to connect to PPTP VPN or my SSL VPN.
The error stated during the connection to the PPTP VPN (windows client) was 720 error.
I restored my windows via recovery to the point one week before and VPN started to work again. I was trying to isolate the problem after which installing I became having such problem. What I have noticed is that there are two lenovo updates that are casing this problem (I'm not excatly sure which one it is, becouse after installing them I had to restart computer about 2 or 3 times to reproduce the problem). After the problem occurs it's constant and I could not find a solution this.
The updates I am talking about are:
    - Intel PRO/1000 LAN Adapter Software for Windows 8 64-bit (ver 12.1.77.0 - no previous ver installed)
    - Lenovo Settings Dependency Package - 8 [32,64] (ver 1.0.5.8 - no previous ver installed)
I've notcied that there was a similar problems on older versions of windows - does anybody know if those instrucions are valid for win8?

  • How to uninstall lenovo updates

when i installed the latest update from lenovo, my computer got really slow and fingerprint reader is not working anymore.im not sure if im the only one who has the same problem but howcan i uninstall  the lenovo update?

To remove an Apple Application Update requires deleting and re-installing the Application from the Tiger install disc or if you purchased iLife 05 which includes Garage Band, deleting and re-installing Garage Band from the iLife 05 install disc and then don't re-install the application update.
The same for a Tiger OS or Security Update. If your Tiger install disc includes 10.4.0 and you updated to 10.4.2 and want to revert back to 10.4.1 requires re-installing Tiger from the install disc via an Archive & Install and then install the 10.4.1 Update only.
If you want to remove Garage Band or another application from the hard drive you don't need or use, check Uninstalling applications and to free up additional hard drive space, check Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.

  • Received 2 new T530 CTO's today, needed 915mb of Lenovo updates and close to 200 Win7 updates

Received qty 2 new T530 CTO's today that fresh out of the box needed 915mb of Lenovo updates downloaded (even System Update was obsolete) and close to qty 200 Win7 Pro updates. I guess the drive image must be from day one of GA? That would not make most potential customers very happy.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I understand your frustration, so let me be honest with you about what the situation is.  Quite frankly, Lenovo is focused on Win8 (and soon, Win8.1), and not Win7.  The Win7 preloads haven't changed much since Win8 came out one year ago.  There have been a couple of emergency driver updates, but it's just not a good use of business resources to update the Win7 preload regularly.  The future is Win8+, so that's where we are spending our resources.
In addition to this, most Win7 customers at this point are businesses who install their own image.
So for these reasons, the Win7 preload is stale, and if you want the very latest updates you will have to install them yourself.  Fortunately the update tools (Windows Update and ThinkVantage System Update) make this easy.
Sorry for this inconvenience but I hope you can understand the situation.

  • Lenovo Updates - History

I have a T400s that's 4 years old - through Toolbox I get Windows and Lenovo system updates - I can see all the Windows updates back to when I bought the machine , 2009 but only a year back for Lenovo.
Is there a way to see more history for the Lenovo updates ??

I use Lenovo's System Update program (SU).  You might have a smilar version called Lenovo updates? There is a Lenovo driver utiltiy around, which I am clueless about.
I believe during SU version 4  to SU version 5, the internal structure of SU changed and previous history in the older version was not carried forward to the newer release.  There may be some older posts on here stateing previous install history not available. I should have been more specific in my previous post, ie when did install current SU?
Please post the specific machine and model type of your T400s.  Running xp/vista or win 7?
Check control panel/program and features for the install date of your current SU, and current release level.
    For a T400s I see Su 3.16.006 (30 July 2013) for Vista/XP and 5.03.008 (22 Nov 2013) for win 7/8.
If it was about a year ago, this is when you may have gone from SU 4 to SU 5. (or similar).    This link might help:
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkVantage-Technologies/TVSU-5-01-upgrade-has-deleted-installation-his...
I keep a  txt file of my Lenovo updates so I know what I installed when (either thru SU or manual install).

  • Dolby Advanced Audio V2 Error Message After Lenovo Update

I received the following error message after completing a Lenovo Update: "The current Dolby audio driver version is 8.2.8000.14 and the software application expects driver version 7.2.7000.7. What action do I need to take to correct the problem so that Dolby Advanced Audio V2 works correctly? Thank you for your help.

even though it was originally described as an E430 problem, there are reports in the thread that uninstalling Conexant Audio from Control Panel and rebooting fixed the Dolby Audio issue.

  • 4s Disconnects after "Do you trust this computer" prompt

Recently, I believe after the most recent iTunes update, my iPhone 4s will no longer sync up with my computer.  Each time I plug the phone in it gives me the "do you trust this computer" prompt.  When I tap yes, it disconnects the phone from the computer.  At no point does iTunes see the phone, and I have been unable to put any music/podcasts on it.  I have tried to use different usb ports, different cables, and repairing the Apple Mobile Device Software.  Are there anymore suggestions my friends.
The computer I'm using is running windows 8. Let me know if there are any more details needed.
    Thank you for your time.

    Hey there maiddib87,
It sounds like your phone is not staying connected after you tap to Trust the Computer so you cannot use it with your computer. I would use the troubleshooting in the following article to help resolve the issue:
    iTunes: Resolve USB-related alerts
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5254?viewlocale=en_US
See if the cable connection at the device or computer has come loose or unplugged.
Unplug the cable you're using to connect your iOS device from the USB port on your computer, and then reconnect it. Then unplug it from your iOS device, and reconnect it.
Remove any third-party battery packs or cases from the device and ensure that the USB cable is connected directly to the port on the device.
If your Lightning or 30-pin cable is connected to a keyboard, display or USB hub, try plugging it directly into a USB port on the computer instead.
Close any virtualization apps (such as Parallels or VMWare).
These apps may interfere with your computer's ability to communicate over USB if they aren't properly configured, or up to date. If this resolves the issue, contact the developer of the app to see if an update is available.
    Restart your computer.
Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
If you're using an accessory or third-party cable to connect your device, try using an Apple cable with the device instead.
Update to the latest version of iTunes if you haven't already.
Disconnect other USB devices from your computer, except for your keyboard and mouse. Then, reconnect your iOS device. If the issue is resolved, reconnect the other USB devices one at a time. Make sure your iOS device is still recognized by the computer after adding back each device.
If one of these steps resolves the issue, but it comes back later, make sure you haven't changed how the device is connected. For example, check to see if you plugged the device into a specific accessory, or used a specific cable that reintroduced the issue.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • Lenovo Update of Synaptics UltraNav driver now makes it reset vertical scrolling speed

After the last update of the Synaptics UltraNav Driver on my W510 to 16.1.1.0 through Lenovo Update it now keeps reseting the Vertical Scrolling speed (the lines per mouse wheel to 1) randomly when pluging/unplugging a mouse or docking/undocking or rebooting the machine.
This is probably the 5th case of a Lenovo Update that regresses something on the system I've had for the past year and a half...

I can confirm this problem.  It is very annoying to have to reset mouse scroll speed 5-10 times a day because I use my dock very often.  I have found no fix, whether temporary or permanent, to this problem.  I am using driver version 16.1xxxx (the latest "upgrade") and am very annoyed by this problem.  I hope Lenovo techs can help us.

Hi orth04, It sounds like ThinkVantage System Update is not working for you.
One alternative is to manually download and install the drivers.
The other alternative is to make System Update do what you want. Can you give us some more details about what happens?

  • What Portal do you use to Update your Helix?

Their are 4 ways to get Lenovo updates for BIOS, firmware and drivers:
    1.  Windows updates
    2.  Lenovo Support Drivers & Downloads
    3.  Lenovo ThinkVantage system
    4.  Lenovo RSS Feed
I generally stay away from the Windows updates of drivers not knowing if they are Lenovo tested and supported.  I only use the Windows drivers if I am desperate or unrelated to Lenovo hardware.  The Lenovo Support Drivers & Downloads on the website seem to be quite comprehensive.  The ThinkVantage System generally has a couple of updates, but not all of them listed on the support site.  The RSS feed is useless, it rarely publishes the latest updates that are of value.
This week there are several valuable BIOS, Firmware and Driver updates on the support site, but only one update on the ThinkVantage System.  Forget the RSS feed and Windows, why doesn't the Lenovo ThinkVantage System replicate the support site?  It would be handy to know what you have installed and what you have not with the automation of the ThinkVantage System, but it obviously does not pull most of the updates.  Not sure why?

It is the Lenovo Solution Software that was preloaded on the Helix.  It is an icon in the task bar.  You launch that, then you will find software updates under system.  When you launch that, it launches a separate program, ThinkVantage.
