Do you use mac's default mouse acceleration?

I know there are billions of Mac users and if you use Apple's mouse, do you ALL turn OFF mouse acceleration or you get used to it?
I find it weird, but my mouse is not moving as precisely as I want. Because when I move it slower, the mouse is not moving as I expect. It is changing its speed and it is hard to predict it.
When I follow the general recommendation and turn the acceleration off by this command: defaults write .GlobalPreferences com.apple.mouse.scaling -1
I don't like it either, because it is becoming too sensitive: when I move it a little, it is jerky.
So, my question to all mouse users, do you really use default mouse acceleration? Or what do yuo do? Will I get used to it?

No, sorry, I don't know if this is possible. But here in this forum people who know the Mac product won't see it.

  • Cant use mac without a mouse

My mouse has just died on me, and its going to be a while till i can afford to get another.
I've tried to use the mac using keyboard shortcuts but cant get any where i need to go. Ive printed off the support from apple but one problem remains, i cant move between menu items. For example, i tried to open the Universal Access menu using the shortcuts and it worked to a degree. But i cant move between the menu bar options. also, i cant open the necessary menu for mouse keys.
Does anyone have any idean what im on about and can anyone help? PLease, im going out my mind here!!!
    Thanks in advance

    Hi hellfirehound!
Until you get a new mouse, see if this helps.
    Menubar Keyboard Navigation
Depress the Control + F1 keys.
Then depress the Control + F2 keys.
Now when you position your cursor on the the Menubar, and click once, the contextual menu will drop down.
You can then navigate to each menu heading using the ?Right Arrow Key, and the ?Left Arrow Key.
When you reach the menu heading you want, use the ?Down Arrow Key, to descend in the contextual menu, or the ?Up Arrow Key to ascend.
Use the Enter or Return key, to initiate the function.

  • Do you use output tunnel default values?

I have been studying the QSM-PC located at http://expressionflow.com/2007/10/01/labview-queued-state-machine-architecture/.  It uses a lot of unwired output tunnels on case structures, and uses the "use default if unwired" checked.  For an array, it turns out the default value is a valid array with zero elements, and this is crucial to make this particular vi work.  Is it common practice among "professional" programmers to use default values this way?
    Attachments:
    Unwired_case_default.jpg ‏9 KB

I'll use default if unwired only for very specific instances.  For example, a stop button event will have a true constant wired to the tunnel to stop the while loop.  All other event cases would use the default of False since I wouldn't want to stop the while loop for them.  It saves wiring up a bunch of false constants.
But in general, Using Default if Unwired could lead to bugs.  Suppose you add an new case to a case structure but forget to wire up some data to the tunnel.  With Default if Unwired, your code will not be broken, and the VI will run using the default data even though that wasn't what you intended.  It may take a while for you to debug your application to figure out why things are not happening as expected.  For example,  a VISA reference works for a while and then stops working.  Why?  Because the valid VISA reference got lost when the new case ran and set it to a default value.
If you don't use Default if Unwired, then your run arrow will be broken.  That will force to go find all those instances of unwired tunnels and force you to either wire them up or explicitly wire a constant to it.  Basically it makes you find and make a decision on each tunnel rather than giving you a chance to forget about one accidentally.

  • Can you use Mac OS X Lion multi touch gestures in Firefox?

On Wednesday, Apple release the new OS X Lion and there are now Multi Touch gestures using the trackpad. I am able to use those gestures in Safari, but I was wondering if there is a way I can use the multi-touch gestures in Firefox.

This appears to be a problem firefox are aware of and are working on, and with some possible workarounds, see also thread: ''"Back/Forward Gestures do not work in Mac OS X Lion" '' -> [/questions/853020]

  • Using Mac OS X Leopard

We got a new iMac, naturally with OS 10.5 for Intel. My qustion is how do you use Mac OS X Leopard ?
    1) Photoshop does not work.
Note: I mostly use ImageMagic as my photos (hobby/family) mostly need little correction, but once in a while you want to play with layers and selections!
    2)GIMPshop does not work
    Note: see 1.
3)Printing to OS X 10.3 shared printer does not work
Note: it works from 10.4 laptop and the command >cupsctl BrowseProtocols='"cups dnssd"'< does nothing to me.
    4)SogudiBeta does not work
Note: I know it works for some other people with my setup - but not for everyone and not for me.
    5) NeoOffice does not work
Note: I wanted to look at a file and grabbed PPC version from my laptop - it opens and stays at the Dock, but no windows/menues is shown. Is it so Rosetta supposed to work?
6)MatLab cannot find java, so the interface and debugging are broken. Graphics works, but X11 has to be freshly started along with MatLab.
Now, i am a power user, and I might solve at least some of this (and other) issues. But am I supposed to @#$% with or to use new computer? Now 10.5.4 looks more like a PublicBeta.
My problem is that before, I had only PPCs, so I have no suitable 10.4 disks to downgrade. Any thoughts?

    Thank you for the interest.
    1) I use (in 10.4) exaclty the one which does NOT work (in 10.5) - 7. At least I did not find a solution in google. I once solved the same problem with v6 (classic) which did not work in Classical environment of OS X. I found and removed accelerating plugins incompatible with Classics.
2)You see my needs - I am not a graphical designer! I just want to have convenient set of menus I am used to. So I want shop.app, and not just .app.
3)http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2275 - they know about it, but there solution does not work.
    4) it is a luck of an obvious functionality AND the drop of support to the Input Managers in 10.5 which drives me crazy.
5)When the same kind of problems appeared in OS9 -> OSX transition it was the extensions that were broken in Classics. Here I am confused as I do not understand what is broken under Rozetta and how to find it to disable.
6)There is only one thing you should know about MatLab - every next version cost to the user 1000$. Matlab R14 works, I know, but I have to use a remote license and update every 24 hours. But why should I break with my local R13 install I do not understand. I mean once again, like with Photoshop - I need a limited set of features, i could go for Octave (free) but it is again just to spend (=waste) time.
My point is, that the only added functionality is the video playback. It plainly works, and works better. The preserved functionality is Office (via Rosetta). The rest is either yet undeveloped or broken. Looks like we should first install Windows/Linux on a separate partition, then get used to it and then forget about OS X. One need no OS X to have Matlab/Firefox/GIMP.
The 10.5 box I got looked more like a web-enabled TVset and electronic typewriter. The other functionalities are to be built from scratch. Or downgrade to 10.4.

  • How do i run an external monitor with my macbook and change settings so that when i close the lid the signal to the monitor is not lost and i can continue using the mac with a mouse and a wireless keyboard?

How do i run an external monitor with my macbook and change settings so that when i close the lid the signal to the monitor is not lost and i can continue using the mac with a mouse and a wireless keyboard?

No, nothing will prevent the computer from going to sleep when you close its display except third-party hacks that are designed to do exactly that. I strongly advise against using any of those, as they may interfere with successful entry into clamshell mode (and they carry other downside risks as well). Just wait until the computer is asleep (with its sleep light pulsing), then press any key on the keyboard. It sounds as though your setup is working as it's designed to do.

  • Anybody using an Apple wireless mouse on the Mac Mini ?

Just bought the bluetooth wireless mouse and keyboard for my new Mac mini core due. The performance of the wireless mouse is disappointing. I believe the timing gap between the hand movement with the cursor movement on the screen is far too long so it is difficult to control the mouse smoothly. I have been using radio type wireless mouse on other PCs and the Apple wireless mouse is the worst mouse I have ever used. Don't know whether anybody here has smiliar experience. Any recommendation to retify or improve this?? I'm happy with the new Mac mini though, and the wirelss keyboard is only okay ( it loses connection with the Mac occassionally even in short distance).
Mac Mini Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   Window XP PC
Mac Mini Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   Window XP PC

I had a same trouble in my Core Duo 1.66. I posted the same message in Apple Japan Discussions. There is no reply. Then, I checked U.S. Discussions and find your message.
First, I think a low battery issue in Apple wireless mous, but not. The mous was working for Mini G4. I asked replacement the Mini, then I got another new one. It had the same trouble.
I found It depends on a distance between Mini and the mous.
    <30cm, it worked perfect.
<div class="jive-quote">30, <50cm, it did not work anytime, cursor movement was not smooth.
1m, it did not work smooth, every time cursor was skipping on the monitor.</div>
I tried it on two new Minis. Mini G4, it works perfectly even it is >5m.
I believe that it is bletooth issue.
Could you check the distance dependance between Mini and the mous.
Finally, I returned the Core Duo 1.66 and refund. If This issue is solved, New Mini performance will be good enough for me.

sounds more like Bluetooth rather than moue, but w/o knowing w/o posting mac model type/year we... will... not... know... what you have
All computers are personal computers, a PC though is also "non-Apple" in common usage.
Mac also is platform and OS.
Very confused reading what you are trying to tell us.

    No.

  • How do you use Default Resource Access Information?

I have some 10g Forms & Reports that I want to use with SSO and they will all be connecting to the database with the same connection info. I know how to configure a Default Resource Access Information, but how do you use this with Forms & Reports?

    Douglas,
the default Resource Access Infomation should be the connection information right? This is used in conjunction with SSO. You need to configure your F&R applications to delegate authentication to SSO by placing ssoMode=true in the config section of formsweb.cfg.
The Forms Servlet will connect to OID retrieve the Resource Access Information (descriptor) for a given user and automatically log them into the application.
Users will need a global identity in OID and SSO must be enabled to use resource access info with F&R

  • How do you use forward and back button on mouse and use "zoom" in web browser.

Ok so apparently this forum is ruled with an iron fist or something my very honest and truthful problems with these issues seem to have been instantly deleted in my last discussion?
    I'll try this once more.
    1) How do you use the forward and back button on a mouse without having to buy a product like Steer Mouse? There must be a way to do this without having to buy a program given it's such a useful feature that 99% of users need. I don't want to spend hours researching something that should already work. Any advice?
    2) How do you zoom in for web browsers like Chrome without it globally zooming in everything on the monitor (even background applications). I don't want to zoom in background applications. I want to be able to zoom in the web browser and still maintain all the features like the side bar, not just a little magnifying glass type thing.
I'm currently zooming in with the CTRL-Middle Mouse button, but I can't find a way to use this feature so it's useful to browse the web it seems to not scale the browser correctly but rather is a global zoom. Any solution for this?

    Thanks so much!
Like I said I am new to Apple products so it's still unclear to me which programs I do or don't need as I'm setting up and configuring all my software and devices.
The Logitech Control Center appears to work perfectly for what I was trying to do!
I accidently clicked "This helped me" instead of "This Solved My Question", sorry about that this was a solve!
