Doc connector

I am new to ipod. I don't understand what the doc connector is for. I have a monster icarplay and it says I need a doc connector. I can't find any info on what the doc connector does. Where is it supposed to go? Please help.
ipod nano   Windows XP

Every iPod except the Shuffle has a Dock Connector. It is the same port you connect your USB Cable to to sync the iPod to your computer. It is also known as the 30-Pin connector. Simply connect the device to the wide port on the bottom of the iPod. There are also devices that take advantage of a port not on the Nano or shuffle. These devices are usually small and connect to a port on the top of the standard 30 or 80 GB iPod.

  • 30-pin Doc Connector - Potential Problem ?

    Hello,
    Today I inserted my charger into the 30-pin doc connector and the phone
    started to charge normally. Usually when the charger is not fully plugged in
    I push it in a little more so that it has fitted all the way in. I thought the charger
    had not gone in all the way (when it had) and I pushed it in more three more
    times with a little bit of force. Nothing happened and the phone charged just
    fine and everything was normal.
    My question is,
    1) By additionally pushing in the charger, have I in any way
    damaged the 30-pin doc connector?.
    2) Should I be concerned for the future?.
    3) How can a pin doc connector possibly damage? (ie by pushing or bending etc?)
    Thanks
    PA

    It appears that the device was defective right out of the box and if that's the case I would return it right away for an exchange and indicate the issue that you are having with the dock connector. Also inform them that there appears to be an object that's wedged/stuck in the connector and that you received it in that condition. From my past experiences Apple is very good about exchanging items like that especially when you receive it in that manner/condition. I hope that helps. My apologies I also forgot to point out that if it's an Online purchase you don't have to do an online return you can simply go to your nearest Apple Store along with your printed out Online Apple store receipt that you received with your shipment.

  • IPod with Doc Connector - 15GB - Basics for Dummies

    Here are some pointers, in case you don't know the obvious. I got my iPod used, and I did not receive a setup guide. I learned a few very basic things THE HARD WAY. I could not get it to even SHOW UP in
    iTunes or
    in the OS or desktop, on
    Mac OS 10.4.11, or
    Windows 2000Pro
    I was trying to use it via the wall adaptor, and dock cable, with the USB connector that, as far as I knew, was the ONLY FREE CONNECTOR I has available to me.
    Here is BASIC DUMMY FACT # 1 -
    The Dock Connector cable is a TRI-connector. It has the Dock connector, a USB 6-pin male, and a FireWire 6-pin male connector. Yes, that's right, it has a FIREWIRE. I did not know this, because the FireWire connector is PLUGGED INTO the wall plug part of it. I didn't even know that you could take the wall plug off the cable and just plug the iPod directly into the FireWire port on the Mac. So after hours of frustration and futility trying to load songs onto my old 3rd gen iPod with Dock Connector using USB (Blehhhhh!), I discovered the FireWire 6-pin plug, plugged it into the Mac, and iTunes launched immediately and I was prompted "Do you want to erase and sync?" to which I gleefully clicked "YES". The iPod was previously loaded with about 900 songs from a Windows PC, and every attempt trying to connect via USB was hopeless. FireWire works flawlessly.
    Dummy fact # 2 -
    When your iPod says "Do Not Disconnect" you have to click the Eject button to "Safely Remove" (like in Windows) and "eject it" from iTunes. Well, what I mean is, I don't know if you HAVE to do this, but I feel better about myself when I do. After FINALLY getting all the songs I wanted on there, NO WAY was I going to take a chance and "pull the plug" on the little thing, with that warning telling me not to, before I investigated a bit.
    Now, this is a REAL dummy fact, and I can hear the snickering even though I haven't submitted this yet. But never having using iPod with iTunes, it took me a few seconds to see that there is a little eject icon on the bottom right of iTunes 7.7.1. It was cool to see "OK to Disconnect!" once I found that "Eject" feature.
    You know, I had my CD's all in a box and ready to mail the thing back to the guy (a friend) who sold it to me and see if he could find a way to load it up. And the wall plug fell off the cable purely by chance as I was packing it up and boxing it to ship, and when I went to reconnect the dock cable to the plug, I realized it was a FireWire connector. Beauty mate !

    True... The 3G iPod is designed to work with FireWire. Once it is charged up and set up for Mac, it may work over USB for data syncing, but it will not charge over USB (so you cannot use the Restore button in iTunes). You can use it with USB and charge at the same time (and also do the Restore procedure), if you get one of these two-ended docking cables.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9688G/A
    The USB end connects to the computer. The FireWire end connects to the power adapter (and supplies the power). But if you have FireWire on the computer, use FireWire.
    There is also an eject button next to the iPod name under DEVICES. Also, if you UNcheck the +Enable disk use+ option for the iPod (in the iPod's iTunes pane), the +Do not disconnect+ message should go away as soon as the iPod is done syncing. The iPod will not appear on the Finder Desktop, and you can safety disconnect it without manually ejecting the iPod first.

  • Mini with doc connector

    when i use my mini with my universal dock the volume automaticaly sets itself to a nonvariable volume. you can change the volume slider on the screen but it does not affect the output. i am having trouble because my stereo is all the way up and its not loud at all. i know the thing works because i can use my 5g video fine. every now and then it does the same thing, but i can just take it out and put it back in and it works.
    how can i change this?

  • Is the ipod doc connector to usb cable the same as the cable that comes with the ipod nano?

    I'm trying to play my ipod nano through a pioneer car stereo using the usb port and it is not working.

    I don't know but I wouldn't plug  it into the car again because it might not be compatable and my friend broke 2 iPodsom pluging them into a car.

  • Connecting to remote database using Connector/J

    I'm new to JDBC so be gentle.
    Basically i'm trying to connect to a remote database from my own computer (client to server). As far as I know i'm doing everything correctly. Am I correct in thinking that Connector/J is native to JDK versions 1.2 and up? Which in turn means that I don't have to install any other drivers as long as i have the JDK installed?
    public void loadDriver() {
            try {
                Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver").newInstance();
            catch (Exception ex) {
                System.out.println("Cannot load driver");
        }Ok, here's my loadDriver() method which isn't working and causes nothing else to work because it doesn't work. I'm getting the information from the mySQL documentation here: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/connector/j/en/cj-registering-with-driver-manager.html
    Not sure what's going wrong here, help would be very much appreciated
    Regards

    Ok i ended up putting the correct .jar file into the correct dir finally. It seems as though some of the instructions in the documentation are incorrect.
    Ok i am now able to load the driver but the connection keeps timing out when trying to connect to the database.
    At the moment i'm trying the following:
    con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://kezzer.co.uk/db", "username", "password");But it doesn't seem to be working. Obviously i'm not using those exact strings for the database, username and password but that's the format it's currently in. Any ideas?

  • IPhone3G Not Charging, USB vs Firewire, Dock Connector, BMW iPod kit, etc

    If find my Mini/BMW iPod kit will not charge my iPhone3G so I did some reading on this problem and here is what I found. There's about a million or more people complaining.
    The dock connector specification simply has pins mapped to both the USB and Firewire interface. It has other interfaces as well--like video and audio. Both USB and Firewire include power lines on the interface, USB - 5 volts, Firewire - 12 volts. The power comes from the computer/car/etc to power the devices like an iPod/iPhone.
    The iPhone3G is perhaps the first dock connector device that no longer supports Firewire in any form. So if a computer, car, etc, provides 12V power only to the doc connector--the Firewire interface--it will not charge the iPhone3G battery.
    It ***** that Apple made this change, but being a hardware engineer, I can undstand the value in dropping support for an unpopular interface and an additional voltage regulation.
    There is no use in complaining as this cannot and will not be fixed. Look for an aftermarket adapter.

    I found this soon after I bought my IPHONE:
    http://home.swipnet.se/ridax/connector.htm?connipod.htm
    I haven't received mine yet so i can't say yea or nye.
    I took a "Griffin PowerJolt Car Charger for iPhone or iPod (Black)" and modified it to hardwire into my fuse block in my Infiniti G35X. This is just for charging though.

  • Listing of dock connectors

    I just bought an iPod Touch 3rd for my daughter. I would like to use one of my old dock connectors - I have two or three - but I don't know how to tell which doc connector works with which model iPods. I looked on Apple's web site for some listing of the half dozen or so dock connectors that Apple has sold, but can't find one. Anyone know where I can find such information?

  • Iphone4 wont connect to or play through accessories dock via 30 pin connector but charges ok??

    As the title states really!
    I can connect and play songs via the head phone jack but not via the 30 pin connector on the bottom. For example, when fitted in a dock (I have 3 different ones to try), FM transmitter or anything else through that 30 pin connector it wont recognise the phone to play songs, but the phone will charge fine through all of these and I can plug in into my PC and access itunes.
    Its not the end of the world, just frustrating as i cant use the docks for playing music, they are just really expensive chargers now!
    I would be greatful for any help or ideas, i cant find anyone with the same problem.
    Thanks, Emma.

    I'm experiencing the same problem now.  I cannot play any music through the doc connector on my iPhone 4.  Music plays through the headphone jack just fine.  I have the feeling that this is a software issue with the iPhone 4, iOS 5.0.1.

  • I'm unable to play music or podcasts using the iphone4 speakers.

    I tried all the things that I read on other threads isuggested as well and I still cannot get the volume buttons to work when I try to play music or podcasts. I read a post on another site where someone suggested the phone is "stuck" or confused and is in Doc mode. For example, I am trying to play music right now and my phone thinks it's playing and the source selected is "Doc Connector" (my other option is Apple TV). I know there is not a problem with the speakers or the buttons themselves because I can play a voice memo using the phone speakers and the volume buttons work.  Thanks.

    if both itunes on the computer and on the phone dont show any then apple must not be offering that service in your country

  • Can I sync my iPad and iPhone via iCloud

    Sorry if this has been answered before, but I searched and could not find a solution.
    I, obviously, did not set up iOS5 correctly because I now have two sets of Contacts on my iPhone.  One is called Contacts from my Mac and the other is called from iCloud.  I guess I was confused by being able to sync over Wi-Fi and also being able to sync with iCloud (maybe).  Below is what I'd like to be able to do.  Can I?  If so, how?
    My Mac runs Snow Leopard. ( I rely on too many Apps that run Rosetta to upgrade now.)  My iPhone and iPad have iOS5.  Can I sync my iPhone to my Mac using Wi-Fi?  It seems the answer is yes as long as the iPhone is plugged into a power source and both devices are on the same network.  Does the sync'ing occur in the background or do progress bars show up on the Mac and the iPhone?  Can I use a PowerMat as the power source or must it be receiving power through the doc connector?
    It appears that while I can sync the iPhone to my Mac, I can still back up the iPhone to iCloud.  Is that correct?
    If I do not plan to enter new data on my iPad, can the iPad be set up to receive contact and calendar updates from iCloud. i.e. iPad either pulls updates from iCloud or sync's with the iPhone data that's backed up in iCloud.
    I think what I'm trying to do is have all 3 devices current without installing Lion in my Mac. I recognize that new data on the iPad will not sync to my iPhone, but that's OK.

    Are iPhone and iPad both use the same Apple ID for iCloud?
    Are they both on Wi-Fi?

  • IPod recognized by Vista but not iTunes

    Hi, I have a perplexing problem. iTunes is suddenly not recognizing my
    iPod. Vista does (though has renamed it Apple iPod), but it does not
    open (when I try, Explorer hangs)
    Nothing happened b4 to provoke this behavior. I uploaded some podcasts
    on Friday, went out of town (w/out the iPod), and came back Monday
    night. Tuesday, I try to update the iPod and it doesn't show up in
    iTunes, but Vista wants to reformat it!
    I try the following (suggested in the Apple support pages):
    * I restart the iPod service
    * I completely uninstall iTunes
    * I reset the iPod
    Each time I connect the iPod to Vista, it asks if I want to reformat it. I grudgingly restored to see if that would help. I even reformatted it (Quick Format) even though I had heard that was bad. Still doesn't show up in iTunes, but the iPod is happy as a clam, albeit empty of any songs/podcasts.
    Any ideas? Oh, and I have an ancient 3G iPod w/ doc connector. After 5
    years, (and 3 batteries) it still works like a champ.

    You need to install iTunes in order to install the necessary drivers.

  • My iPhone 4s no longer has volume control

    I can't get my iPhone volume control to work for my videos and music.  Phone volume works fine.  It shows some weird doc connector button, and if an airport is buy it will show it.  But when i try to play some music or video I have no volume bar to control.  I have gone throug all my settings, mirrored them with my friends iPhone 4s and nothing is working.  Please help!

    I have a black 16 GB iPhone 4S with Telus Mobility in Canada, with the newest iOS version (as of right now I'm running iOS 6.1.2). When I first got my iPhone in January 2012 it had the ability to create a personal hotspot for sharing my data with other devices.
    I changed my Telus rate plan in early February and didn't immediately notice anything. However, last night I noticed that my 4S no longer has a personal hotspot feature in the Settings app. My friend has an iPhone 4S on Rogers Wireless and he still has a personal hotspot feature, as does my friend on Telus with an iPhone 5.
    Does anybody know or have any idea why my iPhone 4S no longer gives me the option to use my iPhone as a personal hotspot? Thanks!

I then plugged the Ipod doc connector into the ipod and the USB in into the power adapter. I then set the TV signal on the Ipod,and turned on the TV and set it on comp 1. All I see is a blank screen. • Connecting mysql-4.1.12a-win32 with jakarta-tomcat-3.3.2 using mysql-connec

    hi calverstine here, i have been trying to connect tomcat to mysql using mysql-connector-java-3.1.10, but does not have any clue how to do it, if you guys ask me to refer to :
    http://dev.mysql.com/doc/connector/j/en/cj-classpath.html
    it only told me about installing mysql to unix platform tomcat , not windows xp sp1, is there any tutorial tat's useful for using the mysql-connector-java-3.1.10? where should i place this folder after i unzipped it? what is CLASSPATH as being written in the previous URL that told us to set the environment variable?..anybody care to help?

    You need to place the driver jar in a place that tomcat can access it; if that place is not already in the classpath for Tomcat, then you need to add it.
    After that, you need to supply application code for Tomcat to contain that will use the driver and do whatever it is you want.
    If you don't know how to do any of that, you need to either read the Tomcat documentation, or learn basic Java development.
