Dock and iPod failure link?

I have had around 4 iPods (all 20GB, 4G, No Color) in the past year and a half. They usually work well for about 3 months out of the 4 that I have them, then around the 3.5 month mark I start getting Folder+! errors and the sad iPods, so I send them in for repairs.
What I am finally connecting is that after 2.5 months, I usually find my iPod dock again, and start using it. Not long after this the iPods come to a halt.
Could this be a faulty dock, or is this a universal problem?

  • Sony TDM-IP1 iPod dock and iPod Classic

I'm interested in getting the Sony TDM-IP1 iPod dock to go with my sony AV receiver, but I need to know if it'll be compatible with my 80GB iPod classic. I checked the manual on Sony's site, and it says it's compatible with the 5G iPod video, but I think the manual was written before the classic came out. I also contacted Sony customer support, and they said that they haven't done testing on it's compatibility with the iPod classic. So does anyone know if this will work or not (both video and audio)?

I found the following comments on Amazon:
    +iSeries Rules says:+
+Ok, so I took the time to talk to Sony (2 hours on the phone) and Apple (1 hour on the phone) about this.+
+Sony tell me that the iPod classic has the same specifications for the connection port as the iPod 5th gen Video. So, they believe that the problem is in the iPod classic's firmware. They did say that they were going to get their engineer's to look at connecting a classic up to see why it is not working.+
+So, the Apple story. Apple looked at this and said that the classic's video out was slightly different than the 5th gen. But, after looking at it a little more closely, and looking at some of the products that Apple sell for similar functionality (video out to TV/Receiver), they then started to feel that there may be an issue with the hardware/firmware. They also indicated that they had received reports of the classic working with similar products, and then failing to work after a recent firmware upgrade.+
+Apple also indicated that they would contact their engineers regarding the connection to the Sony Digital Media port, and give reasons as to why it is not working, and whether there is some way to make it work.+
+I should hear back within the next few days (given that tomorrow is friday, it may be early next week).+
+Hopefully this matter will be resolved by a firmware update.+
+What was really dissapointing was I plugged in my friends 5th gen, and it worked a charm. So it can work...+

  • Can i have an ipod classic and ipod shuffle linked to one library

I recently tried to charge and sync my ipod shuffle and it kept crashing....it then told me to restore it. Which i did..however, i then get the message below.
I do not have a disc, and have no idea what the below means.
    many thanks for your help!
F:\refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer or on a net work. check to make sure that the disc is properly
inserted or that you are connected to the internet or your network, then try it again. If it still cant be located the information might have been moved to
    a different location.

To the question in your title, yes you can have as many iDevices as you wish, but you can only connect one to the computer at a time. The easiest way to manage them is probably to give each device it's own core playlist oof content although you can add easily add more than one playlist to each device as long as the sum total of the data fits within the capacity of the device.
I'm not sure about your error message. This sometimes comes up during installation activies when drives have been moved around. Alternatively Windows might be complaining because iTunes effectively removes the iPod from the list of drives during formatting. Can you get the restore to complete or does it do the same thing again?

  • "Dock" and "Spaces" failure, OS X Unexpectedly Quits

Apologies if I've not posted in the correct forum, but it seemed the most relevant at the time.
I've been using my iMac for under a year and have encountered two reoccurring problems.
    1) Dock becomes transparent, no formatting or colour fill. The dock does however, intensely reflect windows and icons. Despite the issue with graphics, all functionality remains.
This has been an issue since I first began using the iMac, after 'heavy' or demanding use (multiple applications, use of spaces, expose etc) so I thought it somewhat unimportant.
"kill all_dock" does not resolve the issue. Only a restart will rectify the Dock.
    2) Using the side buttons on the mighty mouse to invoke spaces results in me being unable to 'select' anything with the mouse.
In fact, when I click on windows, it seems to 'deselect' the active window in question.
This occurs whenever I use the mighty mouse to get the spaces overview. There is no issues navigating spaces using 'alt' and 'arrow keys' - o by selecting on the programs assigned to a specific space.
Ultimately it is annoying as I have to restart for the mouse to function normally.
In addition it's become less uncommon for programmes to quite unexpectedly, including OS X itself
Techtool says all is fine. I'm not sure what else to do, but I do want my spaces back, and my Dock to function normally.
    Any ideas?

  • IPhone 3GS iTunes and iPod failure since is04

Hi, a couple days after I updated my Iphone 3GS to is04 my iPod has completely gone bust. I click onto my iPod and a few seconds later it automatically goes back to the home screen not allowing me to do anything. This has happened after I downloaded a song from iTunes, the same thing happens when I try to look at recently purchased items on iTunes, it will automatically send me back to home screen.
Any help would be much appreciated thanks.

Ideas anyone? Anyone else had this problem? Sorry to hassle

  • ITunes 7.1 and iPod dock problems

Apparently there are cases of iTunes 7.1 doing some widespread and different things, not all entirely related. In many cases the problems can be fixed if you disconnect your iPod dock, if you have one. I had my Shuffle dock (and iPod) plugged in and iTunes just wouldn't start. I was working wirelessly tonight and just thought I would try again and it opened really fast. Then I found several threads here about this sort of thing. So if you are having problems with this upgrade as I have try unplugging your iPod first then launch iTunes.

You have to restore back (or uninstall/resinstall) to a prior version of iTunes. 7.0.2 works fine.

For anyone else reading this thread, it is worth knowing that sometimes an email is, or can be, corrupted thereby jamming the works. The solution above is good, but I just wanted to suggest another one.
If the problem arises, go to an online mail access service, such as Mail2Web.com and login to you mail account there and delete the offending message.
    Problem solved.
And George, as this is all entirely voluntary, whinging about no takers may not endear people to you. Besides which, a few minutes of searching on Google would have found you a number of solutions.

  • My Ipod Touch is giving a error message of 'This accessory is not supported by iPod Touch' whenever I dock it in my Bose Sound Dock and refuses to play but will charge the device?? am screaming mad and want to be able to play audio thru using the 2

my ipod touch will not play music thru the Bose sound dock and displays the message 'this accessory is not supported by iPod Touch' how can I fix it?

"This accessory is not supported" usually refers to an inability to charge the iPod, but the music should still play throguh the Bose dock. My iPod Touch works this way.
However, when the Bose refuses to make any sound, I unplug it from mains power for one minute. Then plug it back in and try again. This always sorts out the sound issue, but of course, it still will not charg the Touch.
    What happens in your case?

Hi, we have three iPhones and iPods which are currently linked to one apple ID.  I have now set up an apple id for each phone/iPod.  How do I go about re-directing the two accounts to the relevant one that has now been set up please?  I could do with a step by step guide to follow as am worried about loosing aps, music, photo's etc which are on the individual phones.
    Thanks
    Mandi

On each of the phones you're gonna use a new Apple ID for iCloud: turn off Contacts, Calendars, etc. for iCloud. You'll be prompted to keep the data or delete it from the phone, then turn off iMessage, FaceTime & delete the iCloud account...Settings>iCloud...scroll down...delete account. Then, setup iCloud using the new Apple ID, turn on iMessage & Facetime.
This will have no affect on the ID you share for iTunes content, & you can continue to do so.

  • I have 1 itunes library with an iphone and ipod linked to it.  My daughter bought a ipod touch.  Can we download music from my library into her library.  We want to keep them separate due to I do not want all her games in my phone

I have 1 itunes library with a phone and ipod linked to it.  My daughter just got a touch.  She would like to have some of my music downloaded into her touch.  How can I do that without having her linked to my library?

Sync all the devices to the same computer.
If you do not want her apps, then simply do not select them to sync to your device.
Each device will only sync what you select to sync.
lllass gave you a great link for several options.

  • Nano iPod photo dock and S video out?

Has anyone with an iPod photo dock slipped their nano into it to see if the photos will display on a TV (attcheed via S-video?)
Since Apple didn't offer a video cable out for nano, I suspect it doesn't output slideshows, but it would be interesting to find out if the video signal gets sent to the dock connector. Easy way to test is to try to send the slide show out to a TV via ths S-video output of the dock.
    Any experience out there?

    Hi Dave,
No, I did not get a response, but Apple did announce the "Apple iPod Universal Dock" with the release of the new iMac on October 12th (the "one more thing" press conference).
The new dock replaces the old photo dock and supports ALL iPods with dock connector (including the nano and the recently introduced iPod with Video). The new dock retails for the same price as the old photo dock but is more feature rich.
The new photo dock supports slideshows out via S-video, as well as video for the video iPods. It also includes a sensor that works with the same IR remote that ships with the iMac. This remote does NOT come with the dock, but is available as an accessory for the dock for $29. If you are buying the new iMac, there is no need to purchase another remote (unless you tend to misplace remotes
Below is a description of the new dock from Apple's web site. The product doesn't ship for 3 to 4 weeks (as of Oct 23)
Here are some of the things you can do with the Universal Dock:
Connect the Dock to your computer with the cable that came with your iPod, then place your iPod in the Dock to sync and charge the battery. No more reaching behind the computer to plug it in.
Connect the Dock to an electrical outlet using an iPod Power Adapter, then place your iPod in the Dock to charge the battery.
Connect the Dock to a stereo or speakers using an iPod AV Cable or a stereo audio cable to play music from iPod.
Control playback from a distance using the Apple Remote.
Display photos on a TV or other video device using an iPod AV Cable or S-video cable if you have an iPod with a color display.
Display videos on a TV or other video device using an iPod AV Cable or S-video cable if you have an iPod with video capability.
    Hope this helps!

  • IPod, Apple Universal Dock and Remote

    Hello everyone,
So I have this 3-years-old 3g iPod, a 4th generation that still has black and white display and no video. Yesterday I just bought this Apple Universal Dock on a discount which has an IR receiver, audio output but no s-video output (i think it is an old version of the dock).
The dock and the ipod works fine. My ipod does sometimes act funny like I can't auto-sync all my songs to the ipod but has to do it manually. But it works fine with the dock, charging and cleanly put the songs to the speakers just fine.
Until I get my remote out from my macbook. I read it on the net that it is supposed to work with the dock as well. I've tried pairing it many times with the dock but still, not even volume up/down can be controlled from the remote. But the remote still works well with the macbook.
Is this because simply my 3G iPod is, uhm, too old?

Ok, I think you have the newer version of the dock (Apple removed the S-Video out in 2007). Yes the remote should work, what do you mean by "paired".
    And,

Does it need to be trained or does can you use the
logitech software to program the remote?
You can program the 880 to work with the Universal Dock with just the logitech software. Just add a Digital Music Server and when asked what Model it is enter "iPod Universal Dock". That's it. For some reason Logitech tech support says it can't be done but me and and a couple of friends have done it without any issues.

  • Apple iPod Universal Dock And Remote

So If I have the Apple iPod Universal Dock and the Apple Remote And a iPod nano do I have front row?

So in case anyone at Apple is paying attention:
    1) Offer a package of the Apple Remote, a USB receiver for it, and Front Row together as a bundle for existing Mac users. It is a perfect fit for the Mac mini sitting in my stereo cabinet connected to my TV.
    2) Assuming that Photobooth only works with an iSight camera, then why not offer it as a free download for all customers who already have iSights? Presumably it wouldn't do anyone without an iSight any good - right? It should then be packaged with all iSights as a standard part of the package.
If you can't do (1), then at least issue an update to Tiger (10.4.3 for example) that includes Front Row built in with the ability to drive it from a Bluetooth keyboard or mouse? Then offer the Apple Remote with a USB receiver later...
It's so obvious I can't believe it wasn't done today...

  • Ipod Classic 80gb won´t work with apple universal dock and remote

I own 2 ipods a 5th generation 60gb and an ipod classic 60gb. I've just bought an apple universal dock with remote and the original apple component and composite AV cables. I connected the universal dock to my TV via the composite cable, with my ipod 5th gen I can watch videos on the TV and control the ipod with the apple remote but when I connect my ipod classic to the universal dock it will charge but I can´t get any video out or control the ipod with the remote. It's as if the ipod classic doesn't recognize the universal dock and it keeps showing the connect the video accessory screen, even when i tried using the apple component AV cable. I dont think the problem is with the universal dock because it works fine with my Ipod video 60gb, but with my Ipod Classic 80gb the remote control and video out won't work at all, i can´t even control the playback of audio playlists. Does anyone know why that is happenning? Please help me!

I have the Classic 80gb also...same probem. I retuned the Apple Universal Dock and purchased one that was half the price. Pluged it in and it works perfectly! So my advice would be to save some money and get products that work.
