Dock automatically removes icons after .mac sync

After a recent .mac sync My dock idems were changed. Then when I add an icon it disappears within seconds. I unchecked the sync Dock re-synced then it did it again. I have signed out of .mac and signed back in still wont let me add anything. Has anybody else had this problem.

It was a .mac syncing problem. If you sync your dock with another mac, it will allow you to review changes if you delete the icon .mac wont let you put it back on the dock. I changed it on my other mac synced it then synced my second mac, and allowed the changes and no problems since then. Hope this helps somebody.

  • Duplicated events on iCal after .mac sync

    Thre facts:
    I have a TREO600, a desktop mac, and a powerbook, both running Tiger 10.4.4.
Due to some other problems with syncing the TREO, I have purchased the Missing Sync from MarkSpace, and that works very well to sync the palm with the desktop.
I started syncing my two computers with .mac lately, and I have nothing but trouble. Nearly every sync throws up some conflicts, often about events that have long passed. I went through the long list of conflicts EVERY time this happens, but iSync seems to complain about new conflict nearly everytime I sync.
Moreover, it seems to duplicate certain (but not all) events on my iCal after it has synced with .mac.
This is super annoying. I have seen that there are many different posts on duplication already, but none of them seem to match my problem, though there definetly seems to be a general problem with iSync not being very good at checking for duplicates.
Any ideas how to solve this?
    thanks,
    marc

Because you are running the Missing Sync for Palm OS in a Mac OS X 10.4 or later environment, the synchronization of your data is a separate process controlled by .Mac Sync. In order to correct the issue, you should perform a reset, replacing all of the records on .Mac with the records from iCal and the Address Book, which should, incidently, be contemporaneous with your Treo 600 smartphone.
To do that, launch System Preferences and select the .Mac pane. Press the Advanced tab, then the Reset Sync Data… button in the lower left corner of the dialog box. Reserve the default directional data transfer from .Mac to your machine by pressing the right-facing arrow beneath the .Mac icon. This will shift directional flow so that data moves from your computer to the .Mac servers. You can keep the Replace: All Sync Data value in the drop-down menu above, or choose to synchronize only one data type [Calendars or Contacts] by selecting the appropriate value. If you synchronize them separately, you must repeat this process for the other data type.
This event will transfer a complete set of records from iCal and the Address Book to the appropriate storage locations on the .Mac servers, replacing the non-matching data currently stored there. It will not affect your continued use of the Mark/Space Contacts, Events and Tasks menu, and will not change the data stored on your handheld the next time you synchronize.

  • ICal events changing duration and start time after .Mac sync

I sync two OS X Tiger computers (10.4.2) using .Mac to keep my iCal calendars in order. Certain events following a certain date are mutating with longer durations and different start times after syncing between the two computers.
    Anyone experiencing the same problem?
    Any ideas?

    Two different problems here:
    Try one at a time:
Quit iCal. Delete iCal preferences in your User Library: ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iCal.plist ( you'll have to reset iCal prefs after)
For those having problems with .Mac sync, reset the sync System Preferences/ .Mac/ Advanced tab.
    Come back with results

  • Best way to create a collection for on-deman installs as required, but, that automatically removes clients after the install

SCCM 2007 SP2 R3.  We do "on-demand" installs by having collections setup targeted with advertisements for various products, say Adobe Acrobat Pro, and when we get a request, we manually drop the client into the collection and the install
    starts in a few minutes.
Problem is...some staff forget to remove the old clients from the collections.
Can a query be setup to automatically remove the client from the collection post-install, when the collection refreshes?  Problem we are seeing is that whether we use a query for HAVING or for NOT HAVING the product, it then brings in all the other
computers that don't have the product...
Any way to do this, or, we have to continue to manually remove post-install?
    Thanks!

Thanks, Jason...mostly just for neat and clean.
But, John also said we'd have to create an ADS Group to put them in, and use queries to bring those that need into the collection for installation, then remove them when the product shows in ARP.  Which is about the same as adding them into the collection
and then never removing (we'd have a group with computers in it).
I had thought there was some way to automatically remove things from manual collections, but...guess not.

  • ICal crashes on startup after .mac sync

iCal now crashes upon startup. I tried to sync using .mac. During the sync process with .mac, iCal unexpectedly quit in the background. Now, each time I start up iCal, it crashes about 5 seconds after launching. I notice that each time I try to restart it, there are about 5 more colorful calendars all unnamed, on the left side of the window. Coincidentally, I have 5 calendars that I have created, all named of course. Each time I start, there are 5 additional unnamed calendars. I tried clicking on one of these calendars quickly before iCal crashed. I can actually delete one calendar after the other without iCal crashing for a period of time longer than 5 seconds. As long as I continue to delete these automatically formed, unnamed calendars, iCal will not crash. Once I am done deleting them, 5 seconds later, iCal will crash.
    Any advice is appreciated.

By quickly setting my preferences to NOT synchronize calendar with other computers using .mac before it could crash, which took about 5 tries, and then deleting all of the new mailboxes that it automatically created AND deleting all existing mailboxes, I was able to prevent iCal from crashing.
In order to transfer my calendars from my dual G5 to my MacBook Pro, I had to export the calendars from my G5, transfer them via the wireless network, and then import them.
Unless someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong, I'm no longer going to attempt to synchronize my calendar via .mac.

  • IChat wants my account details after .mac Sync

When I arrive at work in the morning and open up my PowerBook G4, start up iChat it asks me to enter my .mac account name and password. I do this and can use iChat all day. My PBG4 is set to auto-sync via .Mac. When I get home and fire up my iMac G5, iChat is set to auto-start when I log in. iChat then asks me for my account name and password.
This sequence of events repeats every day. Can anyone suggest how to fix this?
    Thanks for your help,.

    Hi Alan,
Welcome To The Apple Discussion Pages.
In iChat > Preferences > Accounts
Select the @mac account on the left.
In the Account info is the second check box ticked to Log in Automatically ?
When it does ask you are you telling it to remember the password to the keychain ?
I expect it is this one.

  • Ical after .mac sync how to combine calendars

For some reason I got duplicate calendars (for example 2 work calendars) after syncing with my desktop and my laptop. So my laptop ical has 2 work calendars with different items on them (still related to work) and one of them has older material which might have been on .mac anyway. Is there a way I can merge two calendars together to make one (both calendars in same category like work). thanks, kate

katefu, try the export and import approach on this thread, it worked perfectly for me, and then I just deleted the originally exported calendar.

  • Flashing folder icon after Mac mini has been sitting for a few hours

I leave my Mac mini running at time when I leave the office to let it install an update or just cause I forget to close it all down. When I come in the next morning, I have a flashing folder icon waiting for me.
Every single post on the forums talk about this issue at startup. This isn't the case for me; It didn't get shut down. A simple reboot solves it but still an annoying occurrence.

The solution for this is as follows:
    Force Quit mail
    Go to applications / isink
    In preferences turn off sink
    That solved my issue

  • Dock icons disappear after 10.5.7 upgrade & .mac sync

    Hi -
I have recently upgraded to 10.5.7, but now I am "loosing" dock icons after a .Mac (mobileme) sync. If I place an icon in the dock, it will remain in-place for about ~5 seconds then disappear completely.
I tried renaming my ~/Library, logging out then logging in, and although it was a "fresh" user the dock was working correctly (I could drag apps into it just fine with disappearing).
When I replaced my real ~/Library, the disappearing dock icon issue returned.
Has anyone else experienced this, or does anyone know what is going on with the 10.5.7 upgrade to cause this issue? I have quite a lot of necessary things in my Library (about 21gb worth) so can't really do without it.
    TIA,
    C.

    Thanks for your reply.
I couldn't reset the mobile me sync data; the settings would not save and also my various machines which are sync'ed via mobile me were not displayed.
So I used TimeMachine to restore a copy of my Library (from a version which was about a week old) and all seems back to normal now. I then reset the sync database as you suggested, which worked fine. Thank goodness for backups!

  • How can I create a new recovery key if you automatically removed my trusted device after update do iOS 8?

How can I create a new recovery key if you automatically removed my trusted device after update do iOS 8?

    Hey -
I need to do the EXACT same thing, but have no idea how. Has anyone out there done this?
My situation is a tad different..this is a new Mac (and I'm a brand new Mac user). Tons of querks occur under my original account (videos won't run, Safari won't support certain plug-ins). I spent 6 hours on the phone w/ 4 different Apple Reps and nobody could fix it. A rep finally looked at my MacBook Pro in person today. He created a new account just to see if that would work and under that new account, everything works perfectly fine (no querks, can view video). He tried switching a million settings in my original account to no avail.
He said to create a new account (as he did) and move my files over to the new account and then go back to the original and delete it. How do you do this?! I can't figure it out! I've got a new account created, but of course it just has the default folders in it w/ the little red icons next to them! Thanks in advance!

  • .mac sync icon won't go away!

Unexpectedly at the bar on the top of the screen, I get a ".mac sync" icon. I do not have a .mac account, and never had. I believe this icon showed up after I installed the latest Safari update, but I'm not certain. When I go to preferences, it simply tells me that I don't have a .mac account (my .mac member name or password is missing it says) so I can't remove the icon from the bar on top.
Anybody know how I can get that .mac sync icon at the top of my screen to go away?

Thanks for the tip on putting more stuff in the menubar up top. I'm a refugee from the Evil Kingdom of Windows, and am enjoying learning all about how the mac OS works.
Me, too. In fact I still have a few winder boxes lying around and also run winders on all three of my Macs. But most of the time, it's my new, pet MBP 17".
I have learned a tremendous amount about Macs from these forums. There are many very smart and knowledgeable people around here, and most of the time someone has the right answer to a problem.

  • How to find and install icon in dock for access to Apple Mac OSX?

Just next to my downloads and document stacks I had an icon Apple Mac OS X icon that when clicked automatically transferred me to Snow Leopard site at Apple. By mistake I removed it from dock but now I can't find this icon to re-install it. I looked in applications folder but not there. Anyone know where I can find it to re-install it in dock?
    Thanks

Go to Apple Mac OS X with Safari and drag the icon next to "http" from the address to the right side of the dock.

  • Dock .mac sync issues

    Guys,
I am running two machines both installed with 10.5.1. I subscribe to .mac and get the best of my mac's but I have noticed that dock items are not being sync'ed properly. iTunes is one application I cannot get to stay on the dock even when I right click and choose 'keep on dock'. As soon as I run a synchronise iTunes disappears. iTunes is not on the dock of my macbook either. I am expecting whenever I add an application to the dock it should appear on my other computer after sync but iTunes and others do not!
    Anyone else had this problem.

  • Why does iBooks remove books after sync/download?

After the 8.3 upgrade. I noticed on my ipad 2 that ibooks removes books - certain books after the sync/download completes. I snap a photo of the library after the sync completed. And you could see the books being removed one by one just after ibooks started. during the removing, I was not able to open any of the books. If I tried, ibooks would crash.  Why is this happening?

How did you do the update to iOS 8.3 ? If via your computer's iTunes then the update process will take a backup, install iOS 8.3, and then restore to the backup. But as none of your iTunes downloads are included in a backup (nor any epubs/PDFs that you've added to the iBooks app, or your music in the Music app), the restore looks to copy them back from your iTunes library - so if those books weren't in the Books part of your iTunes library (or iBooks app if using a Mac with Mavericks or Yosemite on it) you might briefly see their covers in the iBooks app before it refreshes and displays the books that the restore was able to put back.
