Dock Compatibility between T430 and newer T440?

I have a T430, purchased 12 months ago which I love and a 433835U mini dock plus series 3 (170w) Docking station.  I would like to get a new laptop for my wife and would like one that can plug into the same dock so she can use the 2 large screens and desk setup easily.  It appears the T440 or T440p are the replacements to the T430.  It is probably asking too much to think that one of these might be compatible with my ultrabay CD/DVD drive from my T430 but if so that would really seal the deal.  Can anyone tell me if the T440 or T440p is compatible with my dock and/or my ultrabay drive?
Much Thanks.

Welcome to the forum!
AFAIK, the answer to both of your questions is "no".

  • IBook Shipping between Christmas and New Years?

Anyone from Apple know whether books are being processed and shipped between Christmas and New Years?
I am wondering if anyone has an accurate answer as to why shipping time takes longer then normal if an iBook order was put in on December 23rd (3:00am Pacific).  I made the order exspecting the shipment to arrive by atleast the 30th with express shipping.  If i had ordered on December 22nd, the site said it would arrive by December 29th, and assumed that if ordered a day later it would arrive a day later.  The message I received when purchased said it would only be delivered Jan 4-6 which is much more than anticipated.  Of course it's the holidays, but this doesn't make sense to me even with omiting the 26th as a holiday.  That, and it is the end of the holidays so I would think most books have already been made and shipped?  I am leaving overseas on the 31st and wanted to have these books to give to relatives!   I ordered them and am just hoping they come in on time.
Anyone from Apple know whether books are being processed and shipped between Christmas and New Years?
By the way, since the 23rd, it said the books were Preparing for Shippment.
    Thanks!

  • Different power requirements between 3G and newer iPods?

Can anyone inform me as to whether there is any input power
requirement difference between the 3G and newer "dock connector" iPods? I'm wondering why Griffin Tech sells a PowerPod car power cord for the 3G and earlier dock models and a PowerJolt for the 4G and 5G dock models and Shuffle. If there is no power difference, I'd like to buy the PowerJolt, and use it for both my 3G dock model and my Shuffle, without buying 2 different car power adapters. Any light that can be
shed on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

I answered my own question. I found my 3 year old owner's manual and found the page where it noted that the iPod will NOT charge the battery when connected via USB to dock cable. Concluding that I probably would not damage my iPod, I tried connecting the PowerJolt, and, as suspected, the iPod does NOT charge. The Griffin Tech solution for vehicle power for the 3G iPod REQUIRES PowerPod.

  • WDS between old and new AEBS

First I want to apologize for this lenghty post. I want to provide as much useful info as possible. We just bought the new AEBS Dual Band and tried to add it to our existing WDS network and ran into a few serious snags. I really hope we can find help here. I've already spent many hours pouring through this forum and other sites and can't find any answer. Here's what our existing network look like:
Gigabit AEBS N as WDS Main > 2 "G" AXs as WDS Remotes
    Wireless clients include: Tivo (G), MacBook (N), 2 iPhones (G), iBook G3 (B).
Wired clients include: Tivo HD, PowerMac G5, Mac mini, laser printer
What we were trying to accomplish is to make the new Dual Band AEBS as the new WDS Main and create 2 (connected) WiFi networks via WDS:
N network (5GHz) > Dual Band AEBS as WDS Main > Gigabit AEBS N as WDS Remote
    G Network (2.4GHz) > 2 "G" AX as WDS Remotes
We want to do this so the Gigabit AEBS N can live in our living room and allow the Tivo to have decent speed when we download the shows to the Macs or to transfer between the Tivos. Since the Dual Band is advertised as being able to broadcast on both frequencies simultaneously, we're assuming it can do this. However, I can't find any info online or otherwise that either confirms or disputes this function.
When I tried to set it up as such, the 2 AXs work as expected. But the Gigabit AEBS N becomes non-responsive. I even tried to hard reset it and re-attach it to the network using 2.4GHz to no avail. At this point, the Gigabit AEBS N either gives the -5 error or, after hard reset, fail to acknowledge the WAN port when I tried to do a "basic" setup to test it.
My first question is: Does the Dual Band AEBS support my desired configuration at all? That is, create separate WDS networks on the 2 frequencies (5GHz vs 2.4). No one I've spoken to at Apple has a clear answer. So I wonder if anyone who reads these forums has tried this.
My second question is: does the 7.4.1 firmware hose the WAN port of the Gigabit AEBS N? I've downgraded it back to 7.3.2 and the WAN port is still not recognized. The AEBS was working 100% before the swap (and the firmware update that followed).
My last question is: Has anyone experienced "stuttering" on the Dual Band AEBS? I haven't noticed it until I tried to playback some QuickTime files off the Airport Disk attached to the Dual Band. On the Gigabit AEBS N, the files all play smooth without any dropped frames (even during substantial network activities). On the Dual Band, frames were dropping every few seconds (even during an otherwise idle network load). When I look at the Airport menu (holding down Option), the Transmit Rate fluctuates between 300 and 1 every few seconds.
Does this mean I now have 2 defective AEBS? Can someone shed some light on this? We would really appreciate any help.
PS: When I take a peek in the "Wireless Clients" pane in Airport Util under the Dual Band, the Rate for the 2 AXs are hovering between 1 and 5. Does this sound right?

I am in a similar situation. I purchased a new dual-band Extreme to replace the older G spaceship with the intent of extending both bands with 2 Expresses, one a new N and other an older G. I extended the N band successfully with the N Express, but when I tried to configure the older G Express I couldn't get the dual band to recognize it when WDS was selected. When I choose "join the existing network" the dual band connected to it, but of course this didn't extend the range.
My first call to Apple Support indicated that I could only extend one or the other with an Express, and that I would have to buy a second dual band Extreme if I wanted to extend the range of both bands at the same time. I took this to mean that I would set up the 2nd unit would act as a dual remote to "extend the network." I returned the new N Express and got a second dual band Extreme, but before I opened it up I checked with another Apple "product specialist", who then told me that I could NOT use the 2nd dual band Extreme to extend both bands at the same time.....only one or the other. According to this guy I would need to hook both routers up together with an ethernet cable, then I could extend each network separately with the Expresses.
There has to be a better way to accomplish this.

  • Docked T500 - Switch between headphones and speakers

    Hey guys,
I am using my T500 with an Advanced Mini Dock at work. I keep the headphones (with microphone) plugged into the docking station.
Sometimes I want to listen to the audio on my laptop's speakers rather than inside the headphones. Is there any way I can make this switch without unplugging the jack from the docking station.
I know that above the volume bar for some systems you are able to switch between headphones and speakers and also, up until ~1 month ago I was able to do this from the SmartAudio utility, but now I can't. I can just switch between SPDIF and headphones.
I am using Windows 7 64-bit and I have all the latest drivers and apps that come using the "System Update" utility.
Please let me know if you have a solution for this.
    Thank you,
    Ciprian

I'm pretty sure that the blame for this lies entirely with Microsoft and their stupid hardware-detecting W7 OS. Yes, it actually detects when you unplug the headphones, tells you what you just did, and promptly resets all sorts of things. The most sensible thing you can do (apart from reverting to XP, which doesn't do this) is to plug an external stereo jack to stereo jack socket extension lead, and plug either your headphones or speakers into that instead, whilst leaving the plug end permanently in the laptop. Microsoft can't pull that stupid stunt on an external connector, so you should be okay with that.

  • What is the different between old and new succession planning?

    Hi
I have worked a lot on succession planning in 4.6c. In ECC 6.0, the succession planning has shifted to e-recruitment section.
    1. What is the difference between succession planning in 4.6C and ECC 6.0
    2. Can I still use the old succession planning in ECC 6.0
    3. Is there a requirement to transfer data from old succession planning to new succession planning if we move to ECC 6.0?

  • Universal docking station for Lenovo T430 and X201

    Hello,
I'm looking for a universal docking station for both my T430 en my X201 laptop.
It has to have a minimum of 2 usb ports + a HDMI exit to connect to my TV. A displayport (normal or mini) is also ok.
THX in advance for the help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You would need usb port replicator options, but do note that these devices require usb 3.0 ports. So for your X201 you may need need to get an expresscard usb 3.0 adapter.

  • Comparism between old and new MacBook Pro

    Hi!
I have a first generation MacBook Pro1,1 (Core Duo Intel, 2Ghz, 2Gb RAM) and would like to know if I will gain much in oerformance if I buy a new one. Has there been any great performance improvements since my model?
    Thanks!

There are definitely performance gains but how much is a matter of perspective and subjective to the end user, IMHO.
There's a couple of sites you might wish to visit for more info:
http://www.barefeats.com (they offer comparisons based on performance via applications, games, between computers, etc.)
http://www.primatelabs.ca/blog/ (they offer a benchmarking app and posts their results on their blog page)

  • Difference between old and new MM?

Staying in front of dillemma. Don't know what to buy: old MacMini or new one with Intel? What is the difference between them besides speed? Is that difference so important for people who is not so big specialists? Thanks in advance for reply.

Not surprisingly, this question is being asked rather frequently at present, but it is now getting harder and harder to find G4-based minis, so it's not going to be long before there is no choice.
The Intel minis are certainly faster than the PPC versions, an in some applications it's quite noticable, though it has to be said that in the usual sort of tasks involving web browsing, email, typing etc, there's not much difference that you would expect to see. If you were planning to use iMovie, Garageband, iPhoto etc, then the Intel version would be a better bet, and certainly if you are hoping to push the system quite hard by regular and perhaps demanding tasks.
Personally, after testing a couple of Intel mini's, I'm happy with my G4 models - at least for another year or two, but in part that's because at this time some of the software I run is NOT Intel native, so it would run slower on the Intel models under emulation than it does on the G4. If you had a collection of existing software titles you wanted to run (things like Photoshop or inDesign for example) that would be a serious consideration to be taken into account in your decision, since these aren't Intel native as yet and no immediate announcement of them becoming so.
I would have to say that in my experience, for the sort of things most people use a computer, you likely would be very happy with either. Just bear in mind that the more memory the system, the better it will run anyway.

  • Difference between i7 and new i7

Hi - not a critical question but curious if anyone can tell me what differences there are between the i7 I bought about 3 weeks ago, and the new one released this week. No buyers remorse but curious none the less.
    Thanks
    Jon

Hi as far as I understand it the changes are:
    1. Around 4,5% faster processor with unlocked overclocking posibility.
    2. Memory running at 1333Mhz (think old one was running at 1066Mhz even if memorys was 1333Mhz?)
    3. A BIG upgrade of the GPU
    4. Option for 2 HDD:s directly from apple without the need to take avay the optical drive to get a 2nd HDD.
Basicly the only big upgrade is the GPU, so unless you play games much you wont notice any difference between the two.
