Dock disappears when safari launches

My 86 year old father who has a new Mini running Lion and who lives far away claims that when he launches Safari, the Dock disappears. I thought he might have meant the Safari tool bar but further emailed questions have confirmed that he does indeed mean the Dock. He says it's there and then he opens Safari and it disappears. I've confirmed that Dock Hiding is off. I can't imagine how it happens or what he's seeing. Any ideas?

I got caught out with this one too, and am grateful for your assistance.
I later found out in Lion help pages how to do the same thing in a single click...
To enlarge a webpage so it uses the screen, click the arrows in the top-right corner of an application window:
To return to standard view, click the arrows in the window’s upper-right corner:
I'm guessing that this is the more likely method of invoking full screen mode unintentionally (I had no idea how I'd done it).

You may have blundered into "Full Screen" mode, an abomination ported from iOS, the iPhone Operating System, land of tiny screens and one-at-a-time Applications.
Try clicking the double-arrows in the extreme upper right of the MenuBar or Window.

  • Dock disappears when downloading

Whenever I upload or download a file, my dock disappears until I'm finished. For example, if I go to upload a picture to facebook, finder pops up and asks me to select the file, right? Well as long as that finder window is open, my dock completely disappears.
Does anybody know why this is and how I can stop it?

The Dock is typically associated with the screen the menubar is on.
Move the menubar in Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Displays representation of the displays to the screen you want the Dock on.

Question: When you refer to an app here --
''I've been able to recreate this bug every time by opening a stream in one tab, any other page in the other and then starting the app - freeze every time.''
-- is that a completely unrelated application outside of Firefox, or something in another Firefox window or tab?

Flash needs to completely unload from memory (restarting Firefox might help) before this would take effect.

  • Dock disappears when waking from screen saver

I have had this happen a couple of times. It's an intermittent problem that I haven't found a pattern for yet.
When coming out of screen saver, the dock has vanished. The dock process doesn't show as hung and seems to be behaving normally. If I kill the process, it restarts and the dock launches properly and is fully functional.

    Fixed in update.

  • When safari launches it tries to divert to a hotspot site.

In preferences I still have the livepage apple marked as the home page.  Can anyone help?

Last week I was. Now I am back home and on my usual home wireless network. So as always the airport logs in automatically to that-- I can use the net as usual, send and receive emails through mail, even use safari normally, I just can't work out how to stop it defaulting to this hotspot address. I'm pretty sure it isn't even the same address I used to log in during my stay in the hotel. ?

  • My Dock disappears when..

I exit full screen after watching a youtube video or any flash video. In order to get it back I have to click a window or the desktop. I dont get why this started happening it never use to do this..

  • Safari launches but no window appears

recently, but i can't exactly track since when, safari launches regularely but no window appears, or after a reboot it opens and disappears after a little while. has anybody been affected and know a reason and solution?

I have the exact problem! In fact when this happens, and it just started this week, I can File Open New Window...then when nothing happens, and I Quit Safari, it will ask if I want to close 2 (or 3 or however many times I've tried to open a new window). Also, there was audio playing on a website last night and the audio continued, but the windows disappeared.. So, there is something that's making the window disappear, but not actually close the windows. Only a full Restart fixes this, and then it happens again.
(it may have something to do with a flash or other plugin, but I haven't been able to isolate this yet)

  • Safari launches when I log on

When I log on ( there are 2 users on this computer) Safari launches automatically. I dont want it to. How do I turn this off? Thanks.

    Hi,
If Topher's good suggestions don't seem to apply, you can also try right-clicking on the Safari icon in your Dock and unselecting the 'Open at login' option.

  • HT203353 Safari extensions disappear when I quit the program?

Why do Safari extensions disappear when I quit the program? They are all from the Apple extensions pages.  I started manually adding extensions because the Add This bar disappeared when I clicked the extensions off button and I couldn't find it to get it back. I liked Add This because it added an extra bar below the url box with the extensions in color. I tried to add the Pocket extension to Add This with a supposed installer from the web site but it disappeared when I clicked on it and didn't add it. Now when I add extensions from the Apple Safari extensions pages there are just little grey images on buttons beside the url box. I quit Safari at night and the next morning when I start the program the extensions are gone. They were all enabled which appears to be the default. Also want to know if Add This is no longer supported.

Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Use the search box in the toolbar of the Keychain Access window to search for an item named "Safari Extensions List". If found, delete it. Quit Keychain Access.
    Quit and relaunch Safari.

  • Dock is disappearing on safari??

When i use safari, dock disappears from window?

    Same problem here.
    Mac OS X v.10.7.4
Happened twice while watching fullscreen Youtube videos - Dock suddenly disappeared, wouldn't re-appear with "Go to  > Dock > Turn Hiding Off".
ALSO! - Would only appear when I'd move the Size slider in " > System Preferences > Dock > Size", but as soon as the slider is released - Dock disappeared again.
    Only rebooting helped so far.

  • Why when I click the Safari icon in my dock to open Safari it will not open onto my home page?

After downloading the new version of Safari it no longer gives the option to open Safari with your home page. The only options are to open Safari with a blank page or the last page you viewed.
In addition, when Im using Safari and I press Command+N to open a new page I would like that page to be the same as the page I was originally on. Example: If I am on Amazon.com and I press Command+N I would like a new page to open ALSO on Amazon.com

Carolyn thank you for your response,
I know how to set my home page what I am trying to do is make it so when I launch Safari it will OPEN on my home page.
In "Safari / Preferences / Apple opens with" the ONLY options are:
    "A new window"
    or
    "All windows from last session"
How can I make it my "Home Page"?
In addition, when Im using Safari and I press Command+N to open a new page I would like that page to be the same as the page I was originally on NOT my home page.
