Dock Folders Launching problem

Having a very strange issue and seem unable to find anything like it on the forums, but apologies if I have missed it.
Whenever i try to open a system folders window from a stack or list from one of my system folders on my dock (applications, documents) it opens up 'Apple Loops Utility" which came with my Logic Studio Pro software. I have this on another machine, but does not exhibit the same issue.
I have tried moving the offending application and deleting .plists for my dock, but no luck...
Anyone have any ideas at all?
Many thanks!
Zak

Sounds like a hosed LaunchServices database. Launch the Terminal.app in /Applications/Utilities/, copy & paste this command (it's a one-liner) into the window, hit the return key, and when the prompt returns, quit the Terminal.app, and restart:
*/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchS ervices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user*
Now, click on a Dock folder icon, and see if it works properly;

    Hi,
I want to open my personal dock folders always in Finder. To do this now I have to right click the icon folder and then select "open folder". Can I do this with a single left click? As it was in Tiger...

    Hello,
You can do CMD+Left Click, which will open the folder in a window (bit easier than right click > move to the correct option > left click).

Help ma boab did you migrate over your applications and settings from your old computer?  It does appear the installer was unable to create the Adobe Photoshop CS5 folder since your current User account did not have sufficient access to either modify they Applications or Adobe Photoshop CS5 folder if it already exists.
If you migrated/copied any files or applications from your old computer then I would recommend running the uninstaller from the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder.  Once you have uninstalled please run the CC Cleaner Tool prior to reinstalling Photoshop CS5.  Please see Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html for information on how to use the CC Cleaner Tool.

Asb x-fi xtreme audio console launcher problems on windows 7 32bit'sI recently installed windows 7, because I was tired from Windows XP, but unfortunately after installing all the drivers for my hardware I realized my 5. isn't working quite as expected.
My first problem was, that the Crystalizer didn't work, after installing tons of different software, found on creative labs forums the crystalizer started working.
Then I realized that the CMSS-3D wasn't (and still isn't working). How do I fix that ? I've tried numerous ways but nothing happens, while in windows XP everything worked fine after installing the drivers.
I also miss some configuration options in the Creative Console Launcher, namely the check boxes:
?"Automatically enable headphone settings" and "Automatically mute speakers".
Where the hell did they go?! I use them, I need them. How do I get them back? Is XP somehow privileged than 7? Isn't it supposed to be the opposite?
I also can't change the speaker configuration - it's stays 5. whatever I do, and the drop-down menu with the choices is missing?! Auto-detect option doesn't work, and if it did worked - I don't need it.

  • I uninstalled itunes because I was having launch problems. Now when I try to re install itunes, I click on download and it goes right to thank you page and NO itunes anywhere.

I uninstalled itunes because I was having launch problems. Now when I try to re install itunes, I hit the download button and it takes me to the thank you page but there is no itunes on my pc.

    Hey Davidl678,
Thanks for the question. It sounds like you are unable to download the purchases from your purchase history, because iTunes believes the songs to be in your library. It may be necessary to delete the items from your library, then re-download from your purchase history. Before doing so, you may want to take note of which song are available for re-download:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Delete songs, playlists, or other items

iTunes 11 for Windows: Download previous purchases from the iTunes Store

  • *** Hierarchical dock folders are back!!!!!

    Just posted and it works!!!
    http://www.eternalstorms.at/utilities/hierdock/
    Sweeeet!!!!!!!

It seems to do the job, has icons in the hierarchical lists (which is nice), and does it all through a novel approach. Here's how it works:
You launch the app and drag a folder ("X") onto the open app window. The app creates a document ("X.essdocker") in the Application Support folder, and presents an icon for this document in the app window. When you drag the icon to the Dock (to the right of the divider, where it belongs) it stays there and acts more or less like a pre-Leopard folder.
I say "more or less" because there is an important difference. Before Leopard you would right-click to display a hierarchical listing of folder contents, or left-click to open the folder. With this app you left-click to display the hierarchical listing, and you can't open the folder by clicking on it (you have to use the open command displayed at the bottom of the hierarchical list). This difference could be a bit of a pain if you've got (for example) Tiger and Leopard systems running side-by-side on your desk and would prefer to have some consistency between them.
(Speaking of consistency, the idea of double-clicking on the folders to open them is not a preferable solution to the problem. Double-clicking is something we do with folders in the Finder; there should be no need to double-click anything in the dock.)
There are a couple of other small things that bothered me about the app. Even if there is no chance of getting the app to respond properly to right- and left-clicks, it may be possible to polish these other points:
First, I was wondering why the icon in the dock needs to have the ".essdocker" extension in its name. It seems to me that the application should be able to remove this extension from the item name even if it is needed for the document in the Application Support folder.
Second, I noticed that when I click on the dock to display the hierarchical list, the entire screen of my iMac suddenly gets a bit brighter. It stays that way while the list is displayed, and goes back to normal when I select something. I'm not sure why this happens, and it can be considered a minor cosmetic flaw, but it's one of those things (like unnecessarily loud Finder sounds) that can get to be quite irritating over the long term.
Third, I'm wondering if the ".esshelper" document is a pointer to the folder it's based on, or if it's a snapshot of that folder at a particular point in time. If it's the latter, then this program won't be very useful for folders whose contents change frequently. This is a question I can easily test for myself; I brought it up because it leads into the last thing I'd like to mention:
Finally, the app came with no documentation to speak of. I understand why Eternal Storms is in a rush to get this released: it's something a lot of people really need. But I'd really like to see just a little documentation explaining what the program does and how it works, so I'll know where to look in the event that problems should start happening.
I've taken the time to describe the application and mention a few points that merit further work because I think Eternal Storms has got a good idea here that could be made even better. It's better than OldFolder in two ways: (1) you don't have to run multiple copies of the app to have more than one hierarchical folder in your dock, and (2) the folders appear in the right-hand side of the dock, where they belong.
    (See http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1233191 for OldFolder links.)
Still, this doesn't let Apple off the hook. Hierarchical folders should never have been removed!

  • Photoshop CS2 launch problem

Most of the time I attempt to launch Photoshop CS2 it fails. I have to try 2 or 3 times before it's successful.
I've put a new alias in my dock and still have the same problem. It's ok when I double click on the icon in the application folder.
I've repaired permissions and disc and it still happens.
There are some times when it works ok, but mostly it doesn't.
If any suggestion is to re-install the application, do I just install over the old app or do I have to delete the old app before the new installation?
Has anyone any advice as to what the problem could be?
    Thanks

    Hello Frank,
Sometimes preference files can get corrptped and perhaps that is the issue with your Photoshop CS 2 software. Locate this file or one that looks similar: com.adobephotoshopcs2.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Locate that file from the Preferences folder, drag it to the Desktop. Try to launch Photoshop. If it functions as it should, drag that bad .plist file to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot. It's ok to delete a pref file as Photoshop will create a new clean one the next time you launch Photoshop. You will have to reset your Photoshop preferences, but that's one sure fire way to correct a bad pref file.
If that doesn't help... same path... locate this file: com.apple.recentitems.plist Same routine... see if that helps.
And, always, when applications are stubborn... run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions. Disk Utility is in your Applications/Utilities menu.

  • Another Safari won't launch problem!!!

I was using Safari before I went to bed last night and when I turned my computer on this morning Safari refuses to launch. It bounces once and then locks up. Any ideas?? I'm using Leopard and have tried reinstalling Safari with no luck. Thanks!

Hi Dely, Welcome to Apple Discussions : )
    From your Crash log:
    com.mac.bwebster.iPLM ??? (3.0.1)
    /Users/ delyq87/Library/InputManagers/iPLM/iPLM.bundle/Contents/MacOS/iPLM
This application for iphoto & .plist files try uninstalling it or see if there is an update or support for it. See if it has an uninstaller third party applications can knit into the os pretty well.
I think it is part of what is causing your problem. I figure the Input Manager belongs / is part of this app, i do not have this folder in either of my Home Libraries. OS 10.4.7 or 10.3.9
Move the folder to the desktop do a restart and see if you can then launch Safari if not put it back.
PlistEdit Pro & iPhoto Library Manager Software
I lost a lot of my preferences after File Vault. I would set everything back up including bookmarks, Applications on the dock and after I shut down and log back in I would see that I lost all my settings.
Which are .plist files and this app seem to edit them. Just a thought.
Hope this helps some. Please let us know.

  • Dock folders jumbled

I'm having problems with "documents" in Dock since upgrading to Mountain Lion... when I open it up with Icon view, I get this:
I then have to arrange them, but when I close and open it again, they're all jumbled.
    Brian

Just drag those folders down to the right hand side of the Dock near the Trash (but not in it
btw - those other folders are aliases. in Finder go to, /Users/yourname/
    EDIT: WITHOUT CREATING AN ALIAS?
Why would you want to do that?

  • Dreamweaver MX 6.1 Launch problems

I recently purchased a new computer and tried to install my
dreamweaver MX 6.1 and when I launch the app, it just hangs on the
spash screen. All my other studio MX programs launch fine (flash,
    fireworks, etc).
    Running XP service pack 2.
Could someone point me in the right direction?

thanks for the response. There was no location for
dreameaverMX at this location. Strange. I downloaded a trial
version of Dreamweaver 8 and it ran fine. When I checked the
configutration folder is was were you said it was. I checked the
configuration folders for Flash, Fireworks, etc and they are all
there. I tried unistalling and reinstalling DW MX 6.1 but the
configuration file is not there. I am guessing that is my problem.
    Can you help further??

  • Dock contexual menu problem

I have a G5, dual 2.0 Ghz and I have this problem that has me stumped. In my dock, I have an alias of my home folder and I used the contexual menu to access my documents. The problem is alphabetically my documents start at "A" and go only as far as "M". Not all the way to "Y" documents. I have a 12" powerbook and I don't have this problem. What am I missing here?
I have tried deleting my dock preferences with no positive results. Please help!
    Thanks,

You wrote: "One word for both you guys - folders!"I use them. Extensively.
The test folder I used is a repository of press releases and articles for one of the stocks I own and follow. Each stock gets its own folder. All of the stock-specific folders are in a Stocks folder. If I need to find a press release or article, I search the folder with Spotlight, either via Find or the search field in the Finder window.
And none of these folders are in my Home > Documents folder, which I never use for my documents. All my documents, pictures, music, etc. are in a highly organized folder hierarchy on a second internal drive. I started with Macs back with OS 9.0.4 before Apple started providing a hierarchy and developed my own. I like my hierarchy better than their hierarchy. I also like keeping my data files separate from the OS and applications. The only "data" that is in my Home folder is the data associated with Mail, iCal, and Address Book.
    Good luck!

  • I cannot remove files to the desktop (or to any other folders) from 'docked' folders, such as the Downloads and Application folders.

This is occuring on my wife's MacBook Pro Retina 15" early 2013 running 10.9.2
I've never run into this problem before, any helpt would be much appreciated.

I mean that I cannot move files from folders that are in my dock.
That is, when I try to drag something from my Downloads folder in the Dock to my Desktop, it doesn't go anywhere, but simply remains in the Downloads folder in the Dock.
A restart has cured the problem for a while, but it is not the first time it has happened and I worry it will return.
