DOCK hiding not working in 10/4/9

After upgrading to 10.4.9, my dock will not automatically hide/show with the mouse. I must move the cursor off screen and click for the dock to open. Once open, the image is static and I cannot scroll through the application names as before. I can select an app, then I must click on the desktop to hide the dock.
I have trashed doc.plist and restarted and reloaded system software. No change.
Any suggestions?

That's the odd thing though. I've done this with 10.4 no problem. Settings always worked. For some reason though, even though the clients are able to login using a network user, none of the preference settings sync.
For example - I always put a loginwindow message on as a sort of "test" to see if preferences are being set. If that works, then I rarely have a problem. No matter what I do, though, I cannot get the loginwindow message to display on the 10.3 clients. It works really well on 10.4, but not at all on 10.3. I've tried this on multiple 10.3 machines, as well, (and they're both based on different system images) but it still doesn't work. When I get back to work on Friday, I'll have to see if preferences will work for network users; that's the one thing I haven't tried.
Other than dumping the directoryaccess preferences, is there another preference setting that could be dumped on the client that may make it grab prefs from the server?

Try deleting com.apple.dock.plist from the preference folder located in your user Library.
You can open the hidden library in Finder's menubar,  Finder > Go > hold the option key down > select Library.
Edit: you'll have to add back program icons to the dock that you moved there.

  • 3rg gen ipod dock connector not working with new imac on leopard 10.5.1

Recently found that my 3rd gen ipod is not working properly when i connect it using its dock. itunes just freezes and comes out with some "disk insertion error". however, when i don't use the dock and connect the ipod to the imac directly using its own firewire cable, everything is ok and working properly.
it seems to be the ipod dock that is the problem. but am wondering why wouldn't it work? any ideas? I'd still like to be able to use the ipod dock...
    thanks.

ipodaid.page.tl go there, he got my iPod fixed.

  • Dock icons not working, wont say whether an app is being used or not

I just bought my imac yesterday, not even 24 hours old, maybe 17, already im having problems with it. When i turn on my mac and start up an app it works great and what not, but then after i try to open another it, the app will bounce and keep bouncing and not stop, the light never shows up. So after that happens, the icons on the dock wont work properly, the apps work, but the icons on the dock dont.
Thanks in advance, dont take this the wrong way, i love macs, its just disappointing i buy it and in 40 mins my dock starts messing up.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
It does sound like your dock isn't working properly, but I'm not sure what to tell you. Have you done all the software updates yet? OS 10.5.1 is out. You might check with software update and then go to the Apple site Downloads and bring everything up to date. Remember to repair permissions before and after downloading software. Maybe this might fix your problem with the dock. If not, please post back.
    Good luck!

  • Osx 10.7.2 error - mouseover dock magnification not working

I am not sure it is related to the most recent upgrade, but my mousovers in Chrome/Safari is no longer working and dock magnification is no longer working either.   Has anyone seen this.
I've tried to repair permissions, but it did not work.  Any help would be appreciated.

Just for grins, I tried repairing permissions again and only one issue existied - Library/Preferences/com.apple.alf.plist should be group 80, group is 0.
I repaired it again and restarted.  I verified permissions again and there it was again.
This issue also appears in two user profiles.
    Pesky little bugger.  Thoughts?

  • Audio line out port (Apple iPad Dock Connector) not working Iphone 4 os 4.2

For my new iphone4, the audio line out port (Apple iPad Dock Connector)is not working. Both using a cable to mini jack (3,5 mm) or in dockingstation.
    I'm using OS 4.2.
    IS this a bug?
    Thanks
    Hans

I just came back from the Apple store.  My iPhone4 DOES have a working line out when plugged into a Apple name brand dock connector.   I don't know why my SendStation refuses to work only with the iPhone4 yet works with iPods, etc..
Solution? I'm buying an Apple iPod dock connector for home and will try to find something with line out for the car - Apple says they do not make one.

  • Keyboard shortcut in Leopard for autohide dock toggle not working?

    Hi all,
I have a question about a keyboard shortcut in Leopard.
I've recently started auto-hiding my dock, using the checkbox in system preferences. I find this gives a nice clear screen for most situations, but would like a shortcut to effectivly toggle that checkbox on/off.
I read about command-option-D but this doesn't seem to do anything. I tried killall Dock, but that didn't help.
I found some reference online searching to TextExpander causing problems, but I do not have that installed (couldn't find any reference of it on my machine).
One thing that does work is ctrl-F3 which brings the Dock up from hidden. Only thing is as soon as you click on an application it dissappears again. What I really want is to toggle the auto-hide option on and off with a keyboard shortcut.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks,

go to system preferences->keyboard&mouse->keyboard shortcuts. make sure that the shortcut to auto-hide and show the Dock is enabled and is set to commandoptionD. those are the defaults but maybe yours got changed or disabled for some reason.

  • Finder & Dock do not work - Mac Hard Drive does not appear on Desktop

Until yesterday, my powerbook was working properly.
This morning, I wanted to use it and I had the following problems after login.
1/ My Mac Hard drive does not appear on my dekstop
2/ My dock appears but no icon works when I click on them. So, I can't open finder. I have no response.
3/ Furthermore, my top bar (with clock, login name, Airport icon...) appears but it is frozed.
I try several solutions as :
    - rebooting in safe mode,
    - rebooting, with in the same time, hold different keys (option, apple, p & R)...
As of today, no solution works.
    Thanks for your help.

Ok, that's good enough. You may be able to repair this with the 10.5.8 Combo Update This is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before.
Remember to Verify Disk before update and repair permissions after update from /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
    EDIT:
I have around 5 Go space left on my Mac
Also, your getting very low on disk space. Try to copy some of the data off to other media. *Do it before you try applying the combo, you'll need the space.*

  • BMW / Land Rover Dock audio not working - 4S,4/iOS5

It seems many are having similar problems, but here goes mine.
Up to iOS4, Everything worked perfectly. iPods, iPhone4 etc.
Plug my iPhone into the dock, music plays automatically. Use the steering functions to control playback, pull it out, music pauses.
Since I upgraded iPhone4 to iOS5, then to iPhone 4S, I can not get it to play music, unless I'm lucky.
iPhone detects that it's connected to a dock, starts charging the battery, then it SEEMS playing music, but so sound coming through.
Oddly all control features of dock audio works - fast forwading, skipping playlist, etc. Just no audio coming through.
Audio comes through about 1 in every 10 times, of placing iPhone into the dock.
I feel there maybe a certain angle? to pushing in to make it work, slightly nudging the top of iPhone towards myself while plugging seems to work better, but it might be just me being crumsy so not too sure about this.
Thought this might be an issue with the dock itself, then I tried iPod Classic and iPhone 3GS + iOS4 and they all work 100% of the time,
So I'm expecting this to be an issue with iOS5.
Has anyone found definite solution to this?
As a side note, I've observed this since iOS3, if you plug the dock cable while talking on BT headset (mine is a Jawbone), music plays through the headset, mixed with the voice of the person I'm talking to.
Would be nice if they can fix this too.

I have the same problem in 2010 BMW 528i and iPhone 4S. I reduced how often this happens by turning off syncing of contact on the iphone. But it still happens daily. The audio is not diverted from the phone to the car.
Really, really hoping that this gets fixed with iOS 5 update soon.

  • Home Universal Dock is not working with my 3 gen iPod Touch

I have the 64 gig iPod Touch. I also purchased the home universal dock DX-IPDR2. The iPod Touch TV setting is set to NTSC. With the iPod Touch in the dock and all cables connected corrrectly, there is no audio or video on the TV. Is this dock not compatiable with the third generation iPod Touch?

An apple store rep just told me that multitasking is only enabled on 32GB or 64GB current generation ipod touch models. Thats a pretty sneaky way to sell your "current generation" 8GB models, call them latest gen, say in the press that ios4 multitasking will work on them, and then ziiiinngggggo, no multitasking if you only need 8GB of storage. oh, well, off to jailbreakland...

  • VERY strange behavior-- desktop and dock are not working

    Hi all,
My friends' macbook is really messed up and she doesn't have applecare. She is running 10.4.11 and suddenly her desktop stopped responding, and her dock disappeared. Specifically, her desktop is plain blue, and her folder icons are there but they can't be clicked on at all. The dock is missing but the menu on the top is fine. She can open up the finder and navigate to everything via the "go" menu and open everything-- all apps work etc.
I tried going into the dock part of system preferences, and then system prefs crashes. I tried opening the activity monitor and quitting the "finder" process and that didn't help. The dock process doesn't show up at all.
I also tried resetting the PRAM, repairing disk permissions, and booting in single-user mode and running fsck -y. Fsck -y gets stuck on "repairing B-Tree" and then says it can't repair the hard drive.
So I put in her install DVD and tried to run disk utility from there. "Checking B-Tree" showed up in green for a while, and then I got a red error message that the HD could not be repaired.
Now it doesn't boot at all (grey screen, and then it shuts down-- even in safe mode) AND when I try to run the install DVD, the HD doesn't show up as a destination folder. Yikes!
Any advice on what I can try next so she doesn't have to take her computer into apple? She has everything backed up, at least!

Hmmmm, if the drive isn't showing up it may be dead or dying, but Unfortunately, Disk Utility can't fix all that much, Your best bet is DiskWarrior, you need the CD though.
    http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/
    But others that may work…
    Drive Genius 2…
    http://www.prosofteng.com/products/drive_genius.php
    TechTool Pro 4…

    Data Rescue II...
    http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php
This one would require another HD with plenty of space to recover to.
Also, does that MacBook have Firewire?

  • CMD + Tab and dock spotlights not working

I've noticed the CMD+TAB intermittently no longer shows the open applications. It's only showing Finder. I can have any application open and still just the finder. At the same time, the blue spotlights under open applications no longer work. A restart seems to fix it.
Any idea what's going on and what I need to do besides conintually restarting my machine?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The Guest login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Elgato thunderbolt dock is not working with yosemeti with my 17 macbook 2011

it works well before upgrading, but after installing yosemeti, all the ports stopped working.

    Hey Balkano91,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues installing Windows with Boot Camp. The error message you described is outlines in the Installation Setup guide. You may want to check to make sure you're logged in as an administrator:
Boot Camp Installation & Setup Guide
    manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1636/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pd f
If you have problems installing Windows
If you have problems installing Windows, try the following solutions.
If you get a message saying “Installer Disc Not Found” when installing Windows
Make sure you’re logged in to OS X as an administrator.
    If Windows doesn’t install properly
Verify that you’re using an original, full version of the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8, or Windows 8 Pro.
Restart your Mac and hold down the Option key until one or more disk icons appear on your screen. Insert the Windows installation disc into the optical drive or insert the USB flash drive with Windows into a USB port on your Mac. Select the Windows installation disk icon, then click the arrow beneath it. Quickly press any key on your keyboard to start the installer. Follow the onscreen instructions to repair or reinstall Windows.
If the Windows installer isn’t responding
Be sure you are using the original keyboard and mouse that came with your Mac.
If you’re using an Apple mouse, the Windows installer may not respond if the mouse is connected directly to your Mac. Connect the mouse to the USB port on your keyboard.
If you insert the wrong disc during installation
Eject the disc by holding down the Eject key on your keyboard while restarting your Mac.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • W520 Docking station not working with exterma DP monitors

It used to work.  Recently, however, if I reboot the thinkpad in the doc, I lose the two DP external monitors.
I.e. the machine boots on internal display, and if I go to windows "screen resolution" I can see the names of the two external monitors greyed out with the wrong resolution.
If I do a WINDOWS-P, then extend to the second one, then make the third the "main display", then disable the internal panel, Im back to where I should be.  If I sleep and wakeup, it keeps the arrangement.  If I dock the notebook while running, it automatically jumps to the correct arrangeement (i.e. internal panel off, two external displays extended).
Its only if I boot when in in the doc it fails, and I ahve to wait for 5 minutes fo tthe machine to boot, then faf about for another minute to get the displays working.  I have never had this problem with Dell laptops in docking stations with external displays.
I dont expect a solution - and I accept im probably the only person who gets this error.
The machine cant reboot (I can only shutdown and cold boot) since I enabled password protection for the HD in the bios, so I cant test that.

With Optimus enabled, the W520 and other Optimus machines lose their brains on a restart.  This is present in the T420 and the T420S, too.
I have just gotten used to doing shutdowns.

  • "Keep In Dock" option not working

    That's all.

Have you tried 'reset home directory permissions and ACLs' on your home folder? Apple has a tool to do this. it's in the reset password utility, located on the install disk that was included with your computer.
To see how to boot to the install disk, and access the reset password utility check out steps 1 through 4 of "Resetting the original administrator account password" in Mac OS X: Changing or resetting an account password do not do steps 5 though 8.
Instead, use the pull down menu "Select a user of this volume to reset their password" to select your account, and then click on the "Reset" button at the very bottom of the window.
then perform steps 8 through 10.
