Dock lights in Mountain Lion

Is there a way to change the size of the dock lights in Mountain Lion? They are a bit small for me to see.

I filed a bug report for the loss of useful functionality. My computer's not an iOS device and this change makes it virtually impossible to readily discern, at a glance, which apps are running. As for why does it matter, it matters because I want a visual way to determine what's going on on my COMPUTER, despite Apple's iOSification of it.
THANK YOU! My feelings exactly. Well said
I'll be filing a bug report on this also.

I got it to download by going to the App Store, Purchases, and download.
This was after a false start thanks to Apple Help (total misnomer) which sent me to iTunes.
It is an amazingly slow download, so pack a lunch.
    Thanks everyone.

Assuming you updated the OS on a Mac that has iWeb installed you will find iWeb in the applications folder. See this page for how to open your website when using Mountain Lion...

  • How do I change dock design in Mountain Lion?

    Hello Everyone,
I am new to the support community so pleae forgive me if I do not know all the rules of posting.  Here is my question.  When my MacBook Pro just had Lion on it, I was able to change the design of the dock.  I had a beauty wood-grain dock with rounded ends almost like a coffee table.  When I upgraded to Mountain Lion, I lost my dock design and was unable to apply my favorite wood-grain design to the dock.  My question for this community is how can I change the appearance of the dock on Mountain Lion? I would love to be able to apply some other dock designs than just the apple Mountain Lion default.  Please note that I am not a computer wiz, so lament terminology would be most appreciated for your response.  Thank you in advance for your help.

    Dear cgn1026,
"Dude", I'm chilled out..just stating my opinion".
I admire you optimism, however it shows me that you're not a professional user. As programmer and someone who has been in the business long enough, I wouldn't consider Linux complicated. Linux is heading into the right direction. They adapted the business model of their Unix family member OS X (Linux is Unix-Like). Mac OS X is based upon the Mach kernel, certain parts from FreeBSD's (Open-Source) and Part of and NetBSD's implementation of Unix were incorporated in NeXTSTEP, the core of Mac OS X. So technically speaking OS X is as complicated as FreeBSD & Linux, the only difference is that Apple has developed it to be an "everyday user" friendly OS. Under the hood, for pro user's like me it's the same powerful OS that we need, to do our daily tasks and I'm not talking about syncing our iOS devices .
Linux has gotten the message and Ubuntu is a good example, they are working towards a user friendly Unix-Like environment. Indeed, it is not perfect, one shouldn't forget though that it is open-source, meaning it doesn't cost anything and highly customizable both in use & desktop appearance. Imagine what they could do, if they had the means of a company like Apple.
I totally agree with you when it comes to Windows, I am not a big fan, but at least their users get a few colors to choose from.
Now regarding the dock, the new OS X dock is rendered by your graphics card's GPU, in order to apply a custom dock, one would have to develop an application which disables dock rendering by the graphics card, but this will most-likely interfere with your desktop experience, since dashboard (and a few other functions in the new OS) depend(s) on the new rendering process. Both the dock and dashboard have been rewritten from ground up. Even if one dares to develop an app to address this problem, it wouldn't be just a tremendous amount of work, but also a certain violation of Apple's software agreement.
CandyBar does not modify your system, it only replaces icons and images, thus in compliance with Apple's software agreement. The app that we would need in order to change the dock in OS X Mountain Lion, is not replacing icons/images but rather modifying the system itself.
Thanks for your input, it's much appreciated! And I'm happy for you that the new OS is to your liking.
    Have a nice day,
    Stu

  • Anyway to get the Lion transparent dock in Mountain Lion?

I'm not really a fan of the new 'opaque' dock look in Mountain Lion. I much prefer the glossy transparent dock look found in Lion. Anyway to get it back?

If you wish, you can customize the Dock yourself. All you need is an image editor that supports PNG with transparent background, such as Photoshop, Gimp, or Seashore.
-- Make a backup copy of Dock.app (at /System/Library/CoreServices) by copying it to some other location.
-- Right-click the original Dock.app and choose "Show Contents".
-- At /Contents/Resources, drag copies of the PNG files to a folder on the desktop. Do not dig into any of the inner directories or mess with any files except PNG.
-- Start customizing. For example, to make an element transparant, select all, delete, save.
-- When you think you have botched, er, completed your customizing, drag the new files back to the Contents/Resoruces and agree to Authenticate with password, and to replace all.
-- Open Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions.
-- In Terminal, type killall Dock (case sensitve) and press return... or...
    -- Log out, log in.
If you do something really bad, you can replace the misfit Dock.app with your backup.
Software Update could reverse your handiwork, so if you like the new Dock.app, copy it to some "System stuff I customized" folder.

  • Having difficulty installing Mountain Lion

I recently realized I was running a really old operating system on my 2009 Macbook Pro. In order to upgrade to Mountain Lion, I had to purchase the most recent version of Snow Leopard (10.6.8). I just installed that and then went to download Mountain Lion from the store. It indicates that my purchase was successful and now shows in my dock bar that Mountain Lion is "downloading". Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be doing anything. The bar showing progress hasn't moved in an hour. I was curious if it was my wifi connection but have been working on other computers in the meantime.
Not sure what to do next or how to check progress or even check wifi speed. Any suggestions? I'd really appreciate any advice I can get. Thanks

When you say you purchased 10.6.8, do you mean you purchased the 10.6 retail DVD from the Apple on-line store, and then did the on-line software update to 10.6.8?  If you only installed from the retail DVD then you are at 10.6.3 and ML will not install.  It must see 10.6.6 or above to install.
If you did the retail install and update to 10.6.8, then you need to be patient as the file you are downloading is 4.5 GB and will take a while to download depending on the speed of your connection.
You can pause the download and restart if it gets to be a problem.

  • I've downloaded Mountain Lion... now what? (Yes, laugh first, if you must... but nothing is happening!)

There's a new icon in my dock: install OSX Mountain Lion (with an arrow above it).
    Clicking on icon does nothing.
    ***? ...Anyone?

You should have an application in your Applications folder named "Install OS X Mountain Lion.app". Normally when the download is complete, the application starts on it's own and you can begin installation. Then the app 'disappears'. See if the app is there. If not, it may not have concluded downloading.

I'm confused. I just got an email from Apple Support Community (updates) and I see that a "baltwo" response is marked "This solved my question" (no offense directed towards baltwo). The question just seems to be more defined, not resolved. This is an Apple OS problem (seemingly) and needs to be directed towards a technical representative, not the community. I would ask that if anyone knows how to push this issue towards Apple, that is where the solution lies.
File a bug report with Apple via feedback. Do note that this goes through marketing and sales. No telling when it'll get to engineering. Alternatively, if you want to report this issue directly to Apple's engineering, bypassing marketing and sales, send a bug report or an enhancement request via its Bug Reporter system. To do this, register as an Apple Developer—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report or enhancement request. You'll get a response and a follow-up number; thus, starting a dialog with engineering and you'll be able to track its status.

  • Any way to theme the dock in Mountain Lion

I've been using Dock Library for the past few versions of osx to theme my dock with a dark glass background, I find it much easier to see the icons with my choice of wallpapers if there is a dark contrast behind the icons.
Is there any way to do this in mountain lion? Dock Library seems to no longer work and for such a basic usability issue it seems mad that I can just pick even from between a dark/light style for the dock.
    Kind regards
    Dave.

    ok just found this
    http://www.nothinggoes.com/transdockx/
and at least it solves the problem but it's a workaround.
Coming from linux I find this level of non-customisability quite irritating, especially when it's a basic function of the os.

  • How to move the dock up a little on OS X Mountain Lion?

I just downloaded OS X Mountain Lion and noticed the dock is at the very bottom of my screen. So when the little ball of light appears under an application I am using, I can barely see it. Is there any way to move it up a little bit?

No ball of light now just a small lit up shelf edge under the app when the dock is on the bottom of the screen
If too difficult to see try using the dock on the right or left side of the screen.. the ball is still there.
    Best.

  • Mountain Lion Change dock to Dark?

I've been searching for this since 10.8 was released and yet to find any way to customize the dock background color.
I've always used a almost black dock BG in 10.6 and 10.7 and can't stand the light grey one in 10.8.
There must be "some" way to tweak these things?
It should be a few options in the system preference, either choose a light mid or dark bg, or even choose your own color.
OS X is a working environment which i use 8-14 hour/day and it's important to be able to adjust these things so you feel comfortable in your working space.
Please does anyone know how to tweak the Dock bg color?
Apple are you listening? give us some control over our own desktop.
Looking at Linux and Windows you can tweak anything to anything.
Also it would be nice to be able to turn off some of the social media integration.
I use Facebook and Twitter less and less and would appreciate those options to share everything turned off.
It's all about making my working space as clutterfree and pleasant.
    Thanks

There is no official way to do this. It's not as easy as replacing image files like it was pre-Mountain Lion. The dock is rendered using code, specifically the CoreGraphics API in the Dock.app binary. I wanted a black dock, and so I disassembled the binary and patched it to render the way that I liked. This would be the only way to change it.

  • Mountain Lion app not downloading, just sits in the dock 'waiting'.

    Hi everyone,
A few weeks ago I downloaded the mountain lion software from the app store. However, the download just sits in the dock 'waiting' and doesn't download at all. It eventually disapears from my dock and tells me that there has been an error. I have emailed and rang customer support, however, I get passed on to different departments with each staff member saying 'this isn't what our department should be dealing with'. I have been told that it is to do with my internet provider (BT), but when I took the iMac (2010) back to university where I have a different internet provider, it still didn't download! (My iMac has got all the requirements for Mountain Lion).
Any help will be much appreciated as I am really getting no where with customer support.
    Thanks!

Any help in this thread and the link posted by Zlig within it?

  • Duplicate dock items since upgrading to Mountain Lion

My upgrade to Mountain Lion has worked well, except for one minor irritating thing: a couple of applications are now duplicated in the dock at every log-in.
    • I have only one copy of each application (specifically they are TextExpander and Vitamin-R).
    • Log-in Items in my Account pane in System Preferences shows nothing unusual.
    • Nothing in the prefs panels for each program shows any problem or likely conflict
    • All four dock items are fully functional.
    • I can slide the duplicates from the dock to kill them, leaving only one copy of each app active. When I restart the machine the duplicates are back.
I realise this is going to be something simple, but I can't think of anywhere else to look. Does anyone else have any ideas?

Go to your Finder "Go" menu choose "Go to Folder" and enter ~/Library/Preferences. Then delete these files and restart or log out and back in.
    com.apple.dock.plist
    com.apple.dock.db
This should return the Dock to default, so you'll need to reset it the way you like it.

Can't recall which I used to do the dynamic repartitioning.
I'm betting that it was originally Partitioned with Snow Leopard.
As a test I just added a second Partition with Mountain Lion to a FireWire HD and it would not let me Install Snow Leopard from my System or Retail Disc into the Partition.

  • I just upgraded to Mountain Lion.  Now I can't open more than one website at a time.  When I do the first site, minimized and in the dock, is taken up by the second one.

I just upgraded my computer from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.  I used to be able to have as many websites open as I wished.  Now when I open a website and minimize it, it minimizes and moves to the dock just like it used to do.  But now when I open a second website, it takes the place of the first one down in the dock that was minimized.  I can't open more than 1 website at time now.

There is something basic going on that unfortunately has me stumped.
Before you spend the $20 please try creating a new user, for testing purposes:
Creating a temporary account to isolate user-specific problems: Isolating an issue by using another user account
That is easy enough to accomplish. If Safari and the Dock behave as you expect while using that account, it will help determine the cause. Please report the results of this test.
Delete the temporary account after you finish testing.
Many of those features I mentioned are new in Mountain Lion, and represent a significant change from Snow Leopard. Though you should certainly continue to use your Mac the way you have been accustomed to using it, you may find using Mountain Lion's new features advantageous. If you are fortunate enough to have an Apple Store nearby, you would benefit by taking advantage of Apple's many free workshops: https://www.apple.com/retail/learn/
Otherwise you may find yourself spending the $20 often. The help available here is often better than Apple's. It is not always correct, but it is always free.
