Dock / OSX Freezes After Right-Click

When I right-click anything in my dock, the dock and finder freezes (no pinwheel) until I click something in the top taskbar like my wireless icon or the display icon.
If I right-click an application then say I push show desktop or all windows or anything, after I click the taskbar it will run through all the buttons/actions I pushed until present. The right-click menu stays on the app and I am unable to click anything in the dock.
I can't right click the trash to empty it, I have to open a finder window and right-click within the window.
What gives?! This is so weird, any help is much appreciated!

It sounds like an item in HD/Library/Contextual Menu Items. Drag the contents of that folder to the desktop and test again. If that sorts it put the items back one at a time to find the culprit..Also, go to Users/Home/Library/Contextual Menu Items and do the same.

  • Dock in 10.5.2 freezes when right-clicked

Here's the problem... when I do a right-click (or a ctrl+click) on the Dock, it freezes until I click a status bar item (for example the Spotlight icon).
Does someone have the same issue?
Sorry for the bad english. Hope you understand.

I just started having the same problem.
When I right-click on a Dock icon, I get the context menu but am unable to left-click anything within it. Then I'll try clicking out of Dock by left-clicking in another application or even on the desktop itself, but my context menu remains- frozen for posterity.
The only way I have found to make the context menu go away has been to activate Spotlight (either by left clicking the icon or keyboard shortcut) or right-click anywhere else within Finder (desktop, Finder window, disk drive icon).
I miss my right clicking love. Anyone have an idea just what is going on? I first noticed this on Wednesday the 19th. Thanks.

this seems to work without errors or freeze ups.

    Hi Roger
    Thank you for your reply.
    My original feed is: http://casa-egypt.com/feed/
However, because I modified the feed http://feeds.feedburner.com/imananddinasbroadcast and nothing changed, I redirected it to another feed and then I deleted this feed.
Is there any way to change the feed in itunes? The only feed I have now is  http://feeds.feedburner.com/CasaEgyptStation
I tried to restore the feed http://feeds.feedburner.com/imananddinasbroadcast but feedburner refused.
I know that I missed things up but I still have hope in working things out.
    Thanks is advance.

  • Image won't open after right click and "open with" command using Editor PSE 10

Can't see image after right click and "open with" Windows XP command using Editor PSE 10. The editor opens but no image appears. I have to use the open command from within Editor

Make sure you have chosen the application PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe and not a shortcut.
To manually associate a file format with an application:
In Windows Explorer, right-click a file whose file association you want to change. For example, if you want to change the file association for all jpeg files, click a jpeg file.
Choose Open With > Choose Program from the pop-up menu.
In the Open With dialog box, click Browse and then locate and select the exe application file.
Checkmark "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" and click OK.
Note:If you choose a program from the Open With menu in step 2, instead of selecting the Choose Program option, this check box is not available, and the file association won't work.

  • After right-clicking the Firefox Icon, a window pops up with one of the titles being "Frequent." Web sites are always being added to this section that I do NOT want. Is there a way to control the number of listings under "Frequent?"

After right clicking the Firefox Icon, a window pops up above the icon with three sections in it. Two are titled, they are "Frequent" and "Tasks."
The "Frequent" section each time I see it, has added previous sites that I have visited. This list then has lots of duplicates in it. I do not need that, and would like to keep this listing a a favored few.
Is there a way to stop having superfluous web-sites added to the "Frequent" list ??
    Thanks!

  • Flash: After right clicking, left click causes browser to go back one page

    Flash version:MAC 10,1,102,64
Operating system: Mac OS X 10.6.4
    Browser: Both Firefox and Safari
    Hello
When I right click in a flash area / window, I can bring up the menu to access settings, global settings and the like. I can left click options on this menu, for instance, I can bring up the settings menu in the flash area.
However, when I attempt to left click anywhere on the flash area after right clicking, my browser will go back one page. For instance, if I right click on the flash area, don't click any of the 'right-click menu' options, left click on flash-free area in the browser window, then my browser is fine...but if i then left click in the flash area my browser will take me back one page.
This happens in both Safari and Firefox. I am not sure at what level this problem is on: OS, browser, or flash...but seeing as it happens on Safari and Firefox I assume it may be either a Flash or an OS problem.
I've Googled for this but I can't find any similar questions...has this happened to anyone before?
    Cheers

  • My Dock freezes on right click - what can I do?

My Dock on Mac OS X Lion freezes everytime I make a right click on an icon... It takes about 20 seconds til it reacts again. What can I do?

    Go to  ~/Library/Preferences.
Move the com.apple.dock.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
~ (Tilde) represents your Home folder.
To see your Home library, hold down the Option key while selecting Go in the menu bar.
    See if that helped.

  • Yosemite: empty Applications folder and Dock crashes after right-click

I upgraded my mid-2010 Macbook Pro to Yosemite, and am observing two problems: 1) my Applications folder is empty, except for the "Windows 7 Applications" subfolder related to Parallels; and 2) if I right-click on a Dock icon, the dock effectively crashes.  When I view the Activity Monitor, Dock is consuming a huge amount of system resources (typically between 100% and 200%) and loginwindow and lsregister aren't far behind (around 60% - 100%). My battery life is awful - I've been using my computer for about 30 minutes and am below 60% after starting with a full charge.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Lawenforcer, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these files to the Desktop.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
Test if the Finder/Desktop/Dock works right while in Safe Mode, reboot when complete, test again.
If it works in Safe Mode but not a regular bootup, then Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed. Check the Other row in System Preferences.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • Dock crashes after right clicking on icons.

Not running parallels, 6GB RAM.  Any ideas what is causing? Thanks!

You could try (temporarily) removing com.apple.dock.plist in your preferences and see what happens.
Remove it, kill the dock, and a new plist will get created.  You'll loose you icon setup of course.  To kill the dock, in terminal type (cut/paste):
    killall -9 Dock
By the way, if you right click anywhere else does that work?

  • Keynote freezes when right click on mouse. why?

When using keynote, numbers, etc. and I right click my mouse to get the secondary menu, the spinning beach ball appears and the app freezes and requires a Forced Shut Down.  How can this be fixed?
    OX 10.8.3

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time after  you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • I can't open a folder in a New Tab, nor have the option to after right-click.

Basically exactly what it says on the tin.
After changing my Finder preferences back and forth, restarting, and trashing my library files to no avail, I'm wondering if anyone has a solution.
I can create new tabs, but only by using the '+' button in an open Finder window OR the File drop-down menu.

Click on the Finder window to set your keyboard focus. Now, if you press command+T, a new Finder tab will appear. This works in all four Finder views. To open an existing folder in a New Tab, it is either a right-click, or two finger Trackpad tap, on the icon –– to pop the contextual menu with the Open in New Tab option. Again, this too works in all four Finder views.
    Using Mavericks.

  • Windows 7 -Delay after right click and installation query

    Hi,
I have freshly clean installed Windows 7 home premium x64 in my HP laptop which was previously running the x86 version of the same factory installed OS.I have performed a usb install. Now,I have two queries-
1.During the installation, when the machine rebooted,to complete the installation process,it gave the option of 'Continue with win 7-EMS ENABLED'-and I went ahead with it and completed the process.I want to know whether this EMS thing is normal or not?
2.There is a slight delay after the right click in the desktop-how can it be resolved?
Looking forward for your valuable opinions regarding this

    Hi,
First please know that EMS allows users to control particular components of a server remotely, even when the server is not connected to the network or to other standard remote-administration tools. In Windows Vista and later, use BCDEdit /emssettings command
and its parameters to establish EMS settings for all boot entries. Then, use the BCDEdit /ems command to enable EMS for a particular boot entry.
It's ok to get EMS enabled.
For your second question, it seems a performance issue.
Please first let me know except the system default context on the right click menu, if there is any 3rd part context menu or extension. if so, please use shellexview to remove them:
    1. Download ShellExView v1.41 from the following link
    http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.zip
Please Note: The third-party product discussed here is manufactured by a company that is independent of Microsoft. We make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability.
    2.  Extract "shexview.zip" file and open shexview.exe. It will scan the registry for all the shell extensions.
    3. Select all the non-Microsoft extensions in pink by press "Ctrl" in the keyboard.
    4. Click the "Disable Selected Items" on the toolbar and click Yes.
    5. Restart your computer and check if the issue is resolved.
If there is no such context menu, please run performance troubleshooting under Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting\All Categories.
Also, help to test the issue in Clean boot mode.
How to perform a clean boot
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
If the issue doesn’t appear, you can determine which one can be the cause by using dichotomy in MSconfig. Checking on half of Non-Microsoft service and restart, determining which half of the services cause the issue and repeating to check half of the problematic
    half services.
If the issue still persists, please check if there is any related error or warning in event logs, post back for our further research.

  • Save as quicktime file so quicktime player can be used after right-click

    Hey,
I'm adding short .aiff's to a site for people to right click and save.
-I'm making the .aiff using logic express.
    -Bouncing to desktop.
-Changing file to "open using quicktime player" which makes the file look like a quicktime file with the big "Q" on it. When I double click on the file, it opens with quicktime player.
-Creating text box and linking .aiff (actually they are .aifc) file to text box, just regular stuff for creating links for files.
-After I publish site to folder. When I go in and right click on the link to save to desktop, the file I thought used quicktime player becomes an itunes .aiff file with the itunes colors (green) and opens using itunes, thus adding the file to my itunes library.
I'd like people to be able to just open the .aiff and quicktime player would automatically play the file, this way unwanted stuff won't be added to itunes library.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks, byt
ps, I've been looking up the difference between .aiff and .aifc. It looks as if they are about the same except you can compress .aifc. Does it really matter which is which if you're not compressing or anything and just clicking and playing?
imac g5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   Woodwinds, presonus firebox, Garageband and Logic Express, iweb

-After I publish site to folder. When I go in and
right click on the link to save to desktop, the file
I thought used quicktime player becomes an itunes
.aiff file with the itunes colors (green) and opens
using itunes, thus adding the file to my itunes
    library.
I think this is a function of how someone's browser is set up or maybe system preferences that associate file types with certain default applications. For instance, you can take the .aiff file on your desktop that is currently associated with iTunes (and has the iTunes icon)....right click on it and select "Open with..." In the opened window select QuickTime player and then check the "Always Open With" box. This will make QuickTime player the default player of .aiff files instead of iTunes. So you see how it is a user defined variable in terms of which application opens which document.
I'd like people to be able to just open the .aiff and
quicktime player would automatically play the file,
this way unwanted stuff won't be added to itunes
    library.
An alternative would be to convert your sound files to .mov files that will by system default be opened by QuickTime player directly...just like iTunes is the system default for .aiff sound files.
If you have found any of this information to be useful to you, please take the time to provide me with feedback by marking my reply as "solved" or "helpful" using those little buttons that you see in the title bar of this reply. I'd really appreciate it!

  • Reset is grayed out in the about:config page after right clicking on specific comands to reset. What do I do?

After being redirected by instructions in your forum, to fix a error message that says that I am using a incompatible browser. Went to about:config then, typed "useragent" in filter line, then to right click on preference name, to click reset. The reset is grayed out, therefore do not present the option to reset. Why is this, and what do I do now?

It is not the user agent as it works for me with your user agent.<br />
Disabling cookies or Flash or JavaScript also gives a specific error message, so I don't know what it is in your case.
