Dock returns to default after 10.5.3 update

After updating from 10.5.2 to 10.5.3 clients conectet to an OD Directory with remote home directories the dock of all users returns to default. The changes one makes in the dock will not be saved anymore.
We are running 10.5.2 server with newly updatet 10.5.3 clients wich connect to an NFS automount..
Does anyone have the same issuses?

Ok, so I got mine working by deleting my Mail preferences from ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist. Just move that file to your desktop while Mail is quit. You can always put it back if you like.
The down side is that you lose your accounts and have to set them up again, but all your mailboxes and downloaded emails should be reconnected fine. The preferences file contains the information about the accounts, but not the mail itself.
I tried restoring a backup copy of my preferences file, but as others have mentioned, each time I quit and restart Mail, my accounts were lost again and it asked me to set them up. The only way I found to prevent this was to get move the preferences file aside. Now it quits and restarts without a problem.
Hope that helps. Not ideal, but you can at least get back up and running.

  • Dock uses 320% CPU after 10.7.2 update

After upgrading to 10.7.2, and after some time suddenly Dock takes all the CPU and gets unresponsible. killall Dock on terminal does not seem to really kill the task, so I have to reboot to get it solved. After some time the problem repeats.

Any idea on what can I do to solve it?

I fixed permisions and checked volume from the restore partition and still the same issue again
Today I noticed that while with 320% cpu it's also eating RAM very quick, when I realized so it was consuming 3.5Gb and the VM size was 320Gb!!!
Other thing I noticed today is that every time I kill the Dock task it starts over, consuming the cpu from the begining (so whatever the problem persist). I closed all the applications but Mail and VMware fusion 4.0.2 and killed dock, and it started consuming cpu from the relaunch as before, but then I closed the former apps (and more precisely I'm suspecting about Fusion) and it stopped consuming CPU (after killing Dock again). Does it make sense?
I took a sample of the proccess just in case it's any expert on the board that can figure out what's going on:
Sampling process 1450 for 3 seconds with 1 millisecond of run time between samples
    Sampling completed, processing symbols...
Analysis of sampling Dock (pid 1450) every 1 millisecond

  • Dock translucency stopped working after 10.10.1 update

A little odd but I just noticed that after updating to OS X 10.10.1 my dock is no longer translucent. Any ideas?
    Mid 2011 iMac

    Try restarting the Dock.
    Applications > Utilities > Terminal
    Launch Terminal.
Wait until the $ sign shows up.
    Enter the command     killall Dock
Press the enter key on the keyboard. Wait until the prompt shows up.
    Quit Terminal.

  • Dock won't magnify after 10.4.4 update

Just did the update to 10.4.4 and now the dock won't magnify when I move the mouse over the various applications. When I click one it magnifies it and stays magnified till I click into another application.
I also noticed that in Mail.app when you hovered over an address in an email you'd received it had a kind of blue highlight box. That doesn't appear any more either.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

Nothing out of the ordinary but the problem is fixed.
I downloaded the combo update and then decided I'd go back to 10.4 and update from there. However, it wouldn't let me do an archive and install and told me the software couldn't be installed.
So I took out Diskwarrior to clean things up and that wouldn't work either. It kept freezing when 'locating directory info' or something similar.
So I decided I'd start back up again and have a look around on the web to see if I could find any answers to that and lo and behold everything is working perfectly again.
    Most strange.

  • Mail reset to default after 10.5.7 update!

Ok I just updated from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7, and now when I launch Mail, it acts like it's a brand new computer. It asks me to enter my address and server info. When I do that, it starts downloading all the messages from scratch. My saved messages still appear in the folders.
I have tried repairing permissions, but that is all so far. No idea what else to check. It's as if a file is missing or was renamed in the Mail Library, but I have done no tinkering.
I hope I don't have to revert to the 10.5.6 backup I just made! =(
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

  • Speakers return to default volume after every song

    Hello,
I just bought a new Toshiba laptop yesterday, and it is equipped with Windows 8.  I have Pandora running on it currently, and whenever a new song begins, the speakers return to some default volume which is too loud for my office.  How do I get
the volume to stay at the level I set it at, even when a new song plays?

I play Pandora all the time in IE11 on Windows 8.1 (right now, in fact).  It doesn't return to default volume after every song here.  I doubt that Pandora's web programming is causing it, at least not directly, or everyone would be seeing
it.  You should not expect it to do so.
Edit:  I play it via the Desktop IE11.  I didn't think to mention it.  Is that how you're running it, or are you using the Metro / Modern interface?  Try it on the desktop if that's not where you're running it and see if the
behavior is different.  Perhaps it's just another problem with the toy interface.

I have created a second user on my iMac (OSX 10.7.1) and applications won't stay in the dock and my preferences default after restart. Everything works fine with the main user. Anyone else have this problem?

    Hi again, ;o)
I found this advice in another thread (here), which you might find helpful...
Unregistering the iMac from .Mac syncing and re-registering it (replacing the computer's information with the .Mac information) resolved the issue.
The .Mac sync information was Reset (i.e. recopied in it's entirety) from the MacBook (the 'good' computer) to .Mac prior to unregistering and re-registering the iMac, so a fresh copy of the sync could be loaded from .Mac to the iMac.
I hope this helps the others who have had this problem.

  • Wallpaper returns to default

    Hello apple genius
I have a MacBook pro 17" i7 with mountain lion installed.
When I go choose my wallpaper folder (that I have made in my pictures folder) it returns to default apple wallpaper folder, after restarting, and my newly folder is gone, and I have to start all over again?
I was thinking that i could find the original wallpaper folder and place all my own photos in that folder, but I can't find it? - anyone knows where that folder is at?
Or, anyone knows why it returns to default folder?
Thanks in advance, for helping me!
    /M

No. I was sitting at the Administrator computer. Selected all computers and restarted them when this happened.
If I sit in front of each one of them and select the restart command this DOES NOT happen.
I was able to restart with no problems with every previous versions of ARD (even with Apple Network Assistant in OS9) but current doen´t work anymore.
Using 3.3 version on Administrator and terminals.
    Thanks a lot.

    3) You have changed the boot sector by doing a manual installation, the script to start R&R is missing.
You could try using the Rescue and Recovery Repair Diskette to modify the boot sector, a floppy will be required. It would also be sensible to backup any important files beforehand. If everything works and you then run R&R it will install Vista.
    1) I'm not sure if this would work, it would be intersesting to know. I doubt it as R&R is different for XP and Vista.
    2) You could use the recovery discs from the other TP and return yours to factory state. This will delete everything on the hard drive. R&R will work afterwards.

Why does it sometimes take 30 seconds for the dock to come up after bringing the curser to the bottom of the page?

Try doing a Dock restart using the following Terminal command:
    killall Dock
Log out/in and test. If that doesn't work.
You need to look in your user Library/Applications Support/Dock for the .db. Use the Finder “Go To Folder” command. Enter ~/ Library/Applications Support/Dock.  Move the .db to your desktop.
    Then try a dock reset.
    Applications/Utilities/Terminal enter the command
    killall Dock
Log out/in test. If it works okay, delete the .db from the desktop.
If the Dock is the same, return the .db to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    Show User Library
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.4. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

Hi mcclausky, you may need to manually remove a policy setting from the registry. You also should scan for malware that might have created this problem.
This article lists scanning and cleaning tools other Firefox users have found helpful: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].
To check your Windows registry for policy settings that might affect Firefox or other programs, I suggest consulting a Windows forum or Microsoft's forums. For example:

  • How can I set to boot from MAC OS by default after I installed Windows?

How can I choose to boot from MAC OS by default after I installed Windows? I have a MacBook Pro Leo 10.6.8. I used bootcamp to install Windows XP SP2, but now if I don't press the option key it will start up with Windows, and I don't want that. Thanks for any help.

  • How can I return to 'default' display parameters?

I opened 'Display' in System Preferences to adjust the brightness of my screen.
Somehow the screen resolution got changed, and there doesn't appear to be any 'return to default' or 'return to previous settings' option.
I now have a display with a 1" border on the left and right (non-adjustable via the mouse) -- also on-screen text doesn't look quite like it did before.
How do I get back to the original settings? (What in fact are the 'original' settings (i.e., factory defaults)?
    Thanks!

It seems that as soon as the mouse pointer is dragged over the 'screen resolution' options (on the Display page) they just reset immediately on the spot, without requesting confirmation.
(Universal Access settings were all already selected as you suggested.)
Your welcome. Yeah it just happens sometimes. I always include the universal access part because sometimes when this happens they change too.

  • How much $$$ will Verizon charge me if I don't return the Fascinate after receiving replacement?

How much $$$ will Verizon charge me if I don't return the Fascinate after receiving replacement?
I spoke with customer service and couldn't get a real number.  She just said it "could be up to $500, or more"
to be determined after they don't receive it within the 5-day period.
Is there a way to find out for sure how much it's going to cost?
    Thanks!
    Here's the reason I'm asking:
I forgot to drop it off at FedEx on the way to the airport.  My entire family is now on an overseas trip and won't
be back for 8 weeks.   The Fascinate, packed in Verizon box with FedEx box, is now sitting in my car trunk at
the airport long-term parking lot.  I was supposed to stop by the FedEx office at the airport cargo area to drop
it off, but forgot about it during the rush....   (yes, I do realize it's a stupid mistake that may end up costing a
    lot of money)

  • Sales Return from Customer after 180 days

    Hi,
I have a requirement on sales return, if the return is done after 180 days, government does not allow to adjust the respective tax amount relating to that return goods.
    For example:/sales invoice:
    Customer Dr 110
    Tax          Cr   10
    Sales       Cr 100
In case of return this entry will reversed (if it is partial partial amount will be reversed).
    Requirement:
If the return is happened after 180 days, tax reverse can not be accepted.
In this case what is the scenario.
    1.  Is this tax amount goes to Tax expnese account (Dr P/L account)
    2.  Is this tax amount added to Material Stock value
Please update me which more details.
    Thanks
    Partha

    Hi,
Perhaps Note 34526 - Delivery free of charge and value-added tax will suggest you a solution. You must handle it with a VOFM in the pricing procedure.
    I hope this helps you
