Dock showing 10 unread mails that aren't there

I have checked all the folders within both accounts (Gmail & MobileMe) & there are no unopened mails. I have checked both accounts on-line to see if there are any discrepancies. There are no RSS feeds to open no reminders & nothing in the trash but still, the icon on the dock is showing 10 unread e-mails.
Any advice please???
Thanks!

Empty your mail trash, and then rebuild all of your mailboxes using the option in the mail application.

JavaMail supports two standard protocols for reading mail POP3 and IMAP.
As explained in the JavaMail FAQ (you found it, right?), the POP3 protocol
doesn't provide information on unread messages.
As far as I know, only Gmail supports IMAP. I don't believe either AOL or MSN
support even POP3, but I'm not sure.

  • Unread mail shows unread mail, but no unread mail!

My dock shows mail as having 2 unread messages, but I don't have any unread messages!!

to mail>preferences>general and for the option Dock unread count, choose Inbox.
also to find out where these ghost unread emails are why don't you create a smart mailbox with the rule "message is unread" and see what will show up in that mailbox.
    hope this helps

  • Email and trash empty but bubble shows unread mail

Have 4 email accounts. In "all inboxes", I clicked "edit", marked all items and clicked "trash". All emails removed (screen says No Mail), but the red bubble is still showing unread emails. I also cleared out the trash.

First off, how important are these files? If you absolutely need these files and you don't have a backup you will need a recovery program to ensure that you recover the files. If you try and recreate your mail account and keep using the computer you may erase the possibility of recovering these files. Normally when you delete the account the POP folder is deleted. If you have a backup I would recommend you getting the files there.
    You can try the following:
Your mail may still be there somewhere in /Users/USERNAME/Library/Mail/
Inside this folder there will be a Mailboxes folder and a POP-something folder if you use pop. There may also be a cancelled folder here.
You will need to recreate your mail account first. You will need the POP server and the SMTP server address if you use POP. After you have re-created your mailbox you can try to import your old mail from one of the folders mentioned. /Users/USERNAME/Library/Mail/cancelled is maybe where you will need to import from. USERNAME is your logon username.

  • Mail Account shows unread mail but I can't find it

In the process of adding some new mail accounts due to a merger of my cable carrier the "help" line told me to delete any existing mail accounts. I followed his advice and clicked "delete" on one account but it did not remove the folder from my list of accounts (below the inbox). Now my email sent to that address continues to go into that account but it does not get into my Inbox and if I click on the account no mail shows in the mail screen. My Mail icon at the bottom of the screen shows 9 new emails but I can't find them. They are all in the "cancelled" account.
Does anyone know what to do in order to get those emails placed in my Inbox?

  • Dock Showing Unread Emails

    Hello
The Thunderbird icon in my dock always shows 73 unread emails. It's been this way since day one and I've been using Thunderbird for about 6 months.
I've literally checked every single folder and I have no unread emails. Any suggestions on how to resolve this?
    Thanks,
    David

do any of the folders in Thunderbird have unread mail? If it is an IMAP account, check by right clicking (CMD Click) the account name in the list and select subscribe for any unsubscribed folders. IIRC the count includes all folders in IMAP accounts, including unsubscribed ones.

  • Missing mail (that's still there)

Recently a had my entire system throw a very strange wobbly, which messed up certain preferences and plists. And since my backup system has been down for a period of time i'm embarrassed to admit to i just had to grit my teeth and start fixing things.
Mostly it's been finding apps and areas of the system that have just had their prefs returned to default, but the oddest one so far has been mail, and i'm hoping that someone out there has a deep understanding of the way mail is stored and can help me out.
All of my emails in two of my POP accounts (and my main two accounts of course) which were dated before the big wobbly were still in the list, but if i trid to open or preview them it would tell me that they needed to be downloaded from the server. When i rebuilt the mailbox it simply lost all of the emails, so now i have nothing in the list prior to the date of the problem. BUT.. they're not gone! If i do a spotlight search for content that i know is in one of the missing emails it will find that email and display it, but of course the 'Show in Mail Viewer' link does nothing.
How can i find these mails and restore them?

Since you have converted from an earlier version of Mail, you may have issues arising out of leftover files, and conversion to Tiger and Mail 2.x, but with the Envelope Index file, for sure.
I want you to read the article at the link below, and as needed, get back to me with some observations, before attempting any changes:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301315
This issue of leftover files applies not only to mailboxes you have previously created (which are in the Mailboxes folder the article mentioned) but will also apply to those mailboxes in account folders created prior to the upgrade to Tiger.
In a pre-conversion to Tiger mailbox, the only file that really mattered, in regard to message content, was the file "mbox". In a mailbox properly created and established in Tiger, the only thing that really matters is the folder named Messages.
Thus, if you are able to compare the size of both the mbox file and the Messages folder, at the time of conversion (a mailbox trying to have it both ways), and they are approximately the same size, then you can reasonably conclude everything was converted. There are some very minor exceptions to this comparative analysis, but it basically holds.
Once all leftover files are removed, then at the root level of the original Mail folder, locate the Envelope Index file, and delete it -- if more than one file has Envelope in the name, delete those as well.
Relaunch Mail, which will announce that it is ready to import your mailboxes -- allow this to continue, and in your case, it will really only be reindexing all your mailboxes, and not importing any.
This will refresh this all-encompassing index file, and I think the the search for reply messages will be resolved.
There are numerous topics about issues surrounding conversion of mailboxes to Tiger and Mail 2.x, from earlier versions. One of them -- the lengthy topic at the link below -- may also be of assistance, and deals with the Envelope Index to some extent:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=413196
This topic is particularly relevant if the mailboxes were large, and complex while used in 10.3 and Mail 1.3. It may not be very relevant, if you were initially satisfied with the conversion of messages, and did think any were missing, at the time you first upgraded to Tiger.
Let me know any questions. Post back here for specific instructions, and help after you have thoroughly investigated your Mail folder, and mailboxes, and the degree of conversion that may, or may not have been completed.

  • Printing events that aren't there!

I just installed Tiger (10.4.11) on my G4 1.25 GHz PowerPC. It has iCal 2.0.5. When I bring up the Print dialog, there are entries that aren't on the calendar itself (I just have one calendar). I have recurring events every Thursday & Friday. In the Print preview, it duplicates these events on Friday & Saturday. Anyone know what's up?

You can submit suggestions for the iTunes Music Store through the Request Music page. Whether or not your suggestion will ever be acted upon will depend on a number of factors, some out of Apple's control (to start with, the artists and record companies have to be willing to license the tracks to Apple), so don't expect instant action.

  • Shows e-mail notifications that aren't there

E-mail notifications show 18000 messages there are no actual messages. How do you clear the notifications. Has occurred since updating to the new iOS 7 system

    Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
No data is lost due to a reset.

  • Apple Mail 7.1 shows unread badge when nothing is there

Hoping for help - since upgrading to Mavericks, my "Unread" smart mailbox shows a "23" badge, but nothing in the folder. Nothing is hiden, and I've tried several things all to no avail:
    + Mail/Rebuild
+ Creating a new Smart folder for all unread - still shows "23"
+ checked the webmail version for anything "unread" - (nothing...)
    Thanks in advance.

Quit your mail entirely, then in terminal do:
    mv ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope* ~/Desktop
This moves all your "Envelope Index*" files to your desktop.  An alternative is deleting the files, but this allows you to keep them as a temporary back-up (you can delete them at-will later).  Also, you can move the files from Finder instead of Terminal, if you prefer.
After the files have been moved, re-open Mail
This should re-load all your email messages, updating/restoring the count
While this works, it does not explain the reason the count goes missing, nor does it ensure that the count won't go missing again in the future, but at least it's a temporary workaround.

  • Mail shows unread mails though there are no unread mails. How do I solve it?

The Mail App Icon shows three unread email and my google account has a three next to it, indicating 3 new emails. However theses emails do not exist. An intelligent folder for unread emails also shows no emails. What is wrong? How do I fix it? I already set up the account again, it did not help. Can anyone help?

  • .mac Startpage shows Homepages that aren't there anymore....

I published quite a few homepages by iWeb and as well setup a filesharing iDisk page via the online .mac portal.
Then I went to my iDisk via the Finder and deleted all sites that are in the /web folder. I also deleted all files that I initially shared via this iDisk webpage.
But when I move to my .mac startpage I see still all those pages in the left overview pane. Evene after clearing my chache, many reloads etc.
When I press one of the shown links to the homepage I always only get to the "We're sorry, but we can't find the iWeb page you've requested."
When I click on the "iDisk public folder" link, thats shows 9 files, I only see an empty folder.
What can I do to get back a clear startpage pane?
I cannot delete the pages in iWeb as I use it to create my homepages for another account!
    Thanks

'homepage' actually refers to .Mac's HomePage, an online website creation and editing suite that's included in a .Mac subscription. It is what and where you wind up when you click on the HomePage icon in the .Mac site's tab bar.
HomePage comes with .Mac, iWeb comes with iLife. They are not the same thing, and iWeb is supported through it's own support areas and its own dedicated forums.
Mods might get around to moving the thread, but probably won't. Your question in short; just cut & paste it to a better forum.

  • Email Widget Shows Unread Mail When There is None

Title says it all. My email widget shows I have 'X' number of unread emails when in fact I have zero unread emails. Suggestions?

The "inbox" on the phone is blank, and refreshing the email accounts doesn't make any messages appear. I go back to my home screen and ... the widget says I have 'X' unread emails. Open the email widget again, inbox is blank, refresh - nothing new, return to home screen and the widget still says I have 'X' unread emails.

  • Lists unread mail that doesn't exist

My iCloud Mail account keeps showing 11 unread messages. This is true online, on a Mac, on the iPad and iPhone. But there are no unread messages. How can this be remedied?

I'm still noticing this queer behaviour occasionally.
Has nobody experienced it and could that be because very few, if any,  are using the legacy interface with Mountain Lion Mail?
