Dock to headphones...

Hi everyone.
I recently replaced the glass and digitizer on my Touch (I did it myself) and in the process of doing so, I snapped off the headphone jack. The iPod works perfectly apart from that there is no sound out of the jack (I did try to re-attach it). I know that adapters such as this one (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=280265952758&Category=84082 &_trksid=p3907.m29) would do the trick so I could listen out of the dock connector, but am I right in thinking that I would lose the use of the iPod's built-in volume control?
Thanks, Jonathan

There shouildn't be any need to change the output to dock mode and so there is no way to do so. It should automatically know to route audio through the dock connector when placing on a compatible docking station.

  • Cleaning Lint/Dust/Dirt From the Docking Port, Headphone Jack, Mic & Spkr

Does anyone know if you spray canned air (Dust Off) into the docking port, headphone jack, mic & speaker ports, if the air will blow the lint/dust/dirt deep into the phone or possibly under the screen where you can't get it back out?

i just use a toothpick and dig it out. the dock port and headphone jack are fairly closed off so the chance of pushing the lint / gunk in deeper is pretty low. so far no issues

  • Nano 6th generation volume will not increase above a whisper on either docker or headphones. volume showing full

6th generation ipod can only hear whisper of sound in headphones and nothing on docker and volume is fully turned up?

Try restoring your device in iTunes. If that does not work you will need to get it serviced.

  • My Ipod touch keeps acting as though it is on a dock but headphones are in. How can I fix this?

My headphones are plugged into my ipod touch but it keeps switching to as if it were on the dock. How can I fix this?

Soft Reset: Hold sleep and home buttons until Apple logo appears
    ignore the off slider
If it did not work Try this Method:
Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings (NO DATA WILL BE DELETED)
Reconfirm it again when the notification pops up and wait for the phone to reboot itself

  • Why isn't there a cable adaptor for headphones to the dock?

I was just wondering, if the iPod dock transmits the highest audio quality, is there a dock to headphone jack that allows the user to get audio via the dock connector? Why have a headphone jack at all?
Sorry if this is a newb question. I can't find a cable online that does this
p.s. I'm not looking for a dock to 3.5 mm jack cable. I'm looking for a dock cable that would allow me to plug my headphones into it.

I've got a 7 year old 30gb video ipod and the headphone port no longer works.
I went to the Apple shop and they said it is now vintage and they can't fix my baby they offered me 10% to trade her in for a new model...
what else can I try to save her?  I've tried cleaning and wiggling and restoring. Everything looks and feels ok.

I've just found 'iPod Dock Connector Headphone Jack' on ebay it as an adapter that will connect my earphones via the wide ipod port better than 10% of something new

  • Lightning to 30 pin connector not charging my nano from my dock

Is it just me, or does the Apple Lightning to 30 pin connector not pass charge correctly?
I bought a new iPod Nano a few weeks ago, not realising I would be getting one of the new Lightning connector ones, so when I ordered my iPad from Apple I also bought a Lightning to 30 pin connector so that I can properly use my JBL dock (which is quite old, bought it with my old 5th Gen iPod). Although it's great that it connects and allows me to control the iPod with the remote control and is a **** of a lot neater than dangling it by a cable from the headphone jack to the RCA input on the dock, I'm getting really frustrated by the fact that I'm not getting any charge being passed through to the iPod from the dock. This was one of the best things about having a dock, not only could I play my music with a good quality sound from the speakers, I could also play it all day long without worrying about the battery consumption as it was being charged at the same time. Now, if I've been using the iPod at the gym through the week, I find that I'm having to take the iPod off the dock and charge via a wall charger or my laptop - the latter allowing me to rever to the old way of hooking the iPod to the dock via headphone jack. It's really annoying that I've spent so much money on something that doesn't do everything I'd expected of it. I'm wondering if it's faulty or if it's the age of the dock - which I haven't used with an iPod for about 5 years!
Has anyone else had this problem?

Have you tried resetting the dock by removing it from power?  What about resetting the iPod Touch? To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • Can the new ipod nano be connected to a dock?

I recently just got the 7th gen Ipod Nano and I was wondering if it can go onto a dock and if it can be played out loud without a dock or headphones.?

Yes, buy the lightning-to-30-pin-adapter in an apple store. And Ipod nano does not have a built-in speaker, so it will not play out loud without a dock or headphones.

Hello! I have a problem, when connecting a cable to the iPod Touch 4G Dock without headphones, you do not hear any sound
But when connected with headphones, plays all
What I can do to fix it?
    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

If not under warranty Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

  • Any hope for a bad DVD

i have a dvd w/photos that won't load in my intel iMac or on 2 other macs a mac book and a G5. what's weird is i test every dvd before i erase photos from my computer and store them carefully.
any thoughts on how to get the media from this disk?
    thanks!

Overnight may be enough if it was a splash of water (ie: you left the phone near a sink while washing dishes, forgot to dry your hands before touching it, and some water got in the dock connector/headphone jack), but if it was fully submerged and was powered on at the time, odds are it's been damaged already. It may power on and seem fine after a week, but it's very likely you will need to replace it much sooner than you'd expected.
Apple will replace it for a fee ($269 is the cost listed here for Out-of-Warranty service).

  • Any hope for a 5c retrieved from water immediately?

Is there any hope for a iPhone 5c that was dropped in the water?  Put it in rice for 18 hours and it started up.  Shut it down and tried a little later and NOTHING.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You can still buy iPod Nano 1G accesories (Go to Apple Store > iPod Accessories > Previous Models > iPod Nano ). Of course the vast majority of accesories will work on both 1G and 2G Nanos. There is just half a millimetre difference in thickness of the Nano and the dock connector/ headphones are nearly in the same place it's only a few cases that won't work.
Yes you can buy cheaper products elsewhere. However, my experience of Apple gear over the last 15 years is that it lasts longer and performs better.

  • Ipod 60 GB Video and I Tunes 7 no longer friends

Recently my system (C) drive failed. I had to rollback to a earlier windows restore point
my iTunes folder was on my c: drive. all my music is intact, my iTunes itl and xml file are there too.
BUT, when i open iTunes it's acting like i never had an iPod or anything. it won't import or acknowledge anything from this drive.
on the other hand, my trusty iPod itself has everything intact. in addition to the media being present my playlists are still there.
    1) i want to keep my playlists on my iPod.
    2) i want to sync iTunes with those.
    3) i want to be able to sync my old iTunes store videos (on the c: drive) with my iPod, so i don't lose them.
basically, all the parts are there, the machines just aren't syncing!
i can only use a powersupply to charge my iPod and i can't connect it to a computer for fear of losing everything.

I've just found 'iPod Dock Connector Headphone Jack' on ebay it as an adapter that will connect my earphones via the wide ipod port better than 10% of something new

  • I have a 120gb ipod classic and everytime i try to connect it to itunes it connects and then disconnects straight away

i keep this bad boy in the car and i will say the ipod itself probably hasn't been updated in a while, but i last had it connected 3 weeks before 10.7 was released and it was connecting fine. i've repaired then, removed / reinstalled itunes, made sure all my drivers are up to date, tried different usb ports all with no luck, even tried resetting my ipod incase that helped with no luck, tried using different cords as i own and iphone aswell and so does my wife but neither made a difference.
is it possible that the problem is with the ipod itself i mean it has to be close to 6 years old, it still connects to docks and headphones work fine just seems and be and issue connecting to itunes that none of our other idevices are having.

If you connect the device in Disk Mode, does it stay mounted in Windows and iTunes?

  • How to put audio with s-video cable

heyas. i am using a svide cable and i have no sound. then i put another cable in the s-line out (the one i use with my amplifier and it is ok)and cnnectect to the tv but no sound! i have all the updates. tahnks

    pbc pt
You need to use audio cables left and right from the dock or headphone jack to audio input on tv, as s-video cable does not carry audio signal. If you are using the Apple A/V kit or cable hook up is simple red to red... white to white yellow to nothing as you are using S-video but if a non-apple A/V cable the plugs may have to be swithced to yellow to red....white to white and red to yellow (or in your case red to nothing as you are using "s" video.
