Dock won't save my new preferences

When i restart or turn off the Mac all my changes to my dock go back to what they were like a month ago. When i put them back to how i want them and restart, same old dock comes up. It's quite annoying.

Very easy to isolate. Create a test user, and see if changes will take affect and hold in there with the dock. If they do, issue is user specific and you can pull the "com.apple.dock.plist" from the "user/library/preferences/" folder. If issue persists in new user, is system wide. Run Disk Utility and verify the "Macintosh HD" internal volume. If issue persists, try a quick easy reinstall of the OS with your install DVD's.

  • Updated to Mountain Lion, Macbook Pro Won't save any app preferences

My wife has a 2009 Macbook Pro. We recently upgraded it to Moutain Lion, and now we are having quite a few issues. Additionally, we upgraded to MS Office 2011 from 2008.  Anytime we open most applications, no preferences have saved, and it goes through the process of opening the application for the first time. For example, the only way to open a word document (previously created in 2008) is to open Word 2011, go through the registration process where it tells us the product is already registered, then it opens a blank document. Once the blank document is open, you can click on the saved document again, then it will open. If you close the application, you have to go through this process all over again. This same thing happens for all products in the MS suite.
Additionally, firefox will not work at all. whenever I click on it, the icon just pops up and down and nothing happens. Their troubleshooting is telling us to create a user profile (which I have) under he application support folder, but the folder is gone after the update. Additionally, deleting and re-installing the application has not solved the problem. Additionally, Safari won't save any preferences.
Also, she is the only user account on the computer.
    Any help would be great!

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • PS CC won't save my unit preferences

Hi, I recently upgraded from Master Collection CS6 to Creative Cloud 2014 and I'm having problems in that my Photoshop CC client won't seem to save my Units & Rules settings in the Preferences section. I've set my Rulers to Pixels and my Type to Points...basically, I want pixels to be the default dimension size unit when doing ANYTHING within Photoshop as I NEVER have to use cm/inches/picas/anything else. However, even though I've saved these settings in my Preferences window, every time I go to open a new image, or if I go to change the image size of an existing image, the default size ALWAYS shows up in cm instead of pixels. I am Canadian so I'm using the English (UK) keyboard layout which I've heard can have an impact on Photoshop auto-selecting your units - for example, I read an article where someone using the English (US) keyboard layout was forced to use inches instead. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I just want it to always show pixels as the unit dimension by default instead of cm or inches, I don't know why it's not saving or taking effect (yes, I've restarted the application numerous times as well). Thanks for any help!

I have the same problem, each time I open Photoshop CC my workspace from last time is not saved.
Very annoying beacuse I have to reload my swatches etc.

  • Contacts app? no accounts. can't add one. won't save a new contact.

My Contacts app shows no accounts, I cannot add an account local or cloud, and if I add a contact it is not saved to disk. Anyone have any idea what is going on? and how I might fix it. Other apps in this group (Calendar, Mail, Notes, etc) seem to be working normally.

I'm having this as well. I have a 15 inch Retina MacBook Pro (late 2013). I added an iCloud account in the preferences panel, and it added it successfully to email and calendar but not contacts, even though it is checked. I've tried to add it from within contacts, signed out of iCloud and signed back in, and restarted the computer with no success.
I can't sync with iCloud or add a new contact.

  • I deleted my facebook password from firefox, now firefox won't save my new password.

I have the box checked to save all passwords by firefox, but it isn't saving them.

When you delete your password, the site often gets added to the exceptions, for some reason. I had this issue when I just deleted one of my gmail passwords to update it. It's a quick fix, if this is the issue.
Go to Preferences, Security, Exceptions, and make sure that, in this case, facebook.com isn't added to the exceptions.
    Hope this helps!

  • ICal won't save any new events

    Hello,
iCal worked fine for a time, but now I can enter as much events as I want, it forgets everyone once I shut down iCal. If I just close the window (so that the light still glows under the symbol in the dock) the program remembers the newly entered events.
I'm not sure, but I upgraded 10.5. to 10.6.2. snow leopard on my MacBook a few days ago - so maybe the events won't be saved since I installed 10.6. and the problem is connected with 10.6.
Events I entered in the past, are being remembered finely. And I have full write and read rights in the specific events-folder.
I found this problem often on google, but no one seems to have a solution but to deactivate the birthday-abonnement, which I don't want to. I didn't find this problem in this forum - if it exists, please just delete this thread and show me the other one.
    Thank You for answering,
    schut

    schut,
...when I export as .ics-file I get all my events back by importing and when I use .icbu-files I don't.
That is the reason that I urged you to export individual calendars. That procedure will usually work for the .ics files if the .icbu is unsuccessful.
...One is called "Calendar sync Changes" (although I don't sync my calendar with anything?). Of course I deleted everything, but I wanted to report this either.
I do not know why it reappears, but surmise that attempting to subscribe to birthdays may create the folder.
...When I log in again and start iCal it has the event-groups "test", "Privat" and "Buero" (=office or something like that in English). Is this normal although I deleted all the stuff You said?
Those two calendars (Work/Home)will automatically be created the first time iCal opens without any data. You can delete them without consequence.
...By the way, is there no way/program with that I can uninstall iCal (and maybe reinstall)?
I have found that individual application reinstallation rarely, if ever solves the type of problems which you are experiencing.
...Or is there maybe a known problem in the address-book program from which is not known that it can conflict with the iCal also?
I am not aware of a "known problem," but do agree that there may be a corrupt address card.
I would agree with your plan, as long as you are willing to manually recreate your Address Book entries.
    Good Luck!

  • G5 Slot Load XServe 10.4.11 won't save startup disk preference

I have a G5 XServe (Slot Load). If the server is 'Shut Down' or it loses power (UPS goes down) it won't boot from the selected Startup Disk.
I have to use the System Identifier buttons to select 'Startup from internal drive'.
But if I instead only Restart the machine, it always boots from the selected Startup Disk.
How can I get this G5 XServe running Tiger 10.4.11 to retain its Startup Disk settings?
    Thanks

    I ran 'sudo systemsetup -liststartupdisks'
    and got '/System/Library/CoreServices'
Should this be working as is or should it be '/System/Library/CoreServices/System' or something else?
What should the file path be? Can you please post an example?
I am planning on using 'sudo systemsetup -setstartupdisk <path to disk root>' to try to reset it. I found that in the Snow Leopard literature, should that work for Tiger as well?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Saving a theme but it won't save the new colours I've created

    Hi
I've created a template/theme in Keynote and created a colour palette, but when I save the theme and open it on another machine all the colours in the colourpalette is gone and I need to create them again.
There must be possible to import the colour palette into teh theme?
    Anybody knows?
    Would be very gratefull!

If you're talking about the Apple color picker, there's no way to do that inside Keynote.
When I make custom themes, I provide an extras file filled with color chips that the user can sample from. It's easier than showing them how to import a color picker palette into their system.
You could also stick them on an extra master slide so they're always in the theme.

  • Preview won't save a new signature

I successfully use my own digital signature on preview documents, but when I have tried to add my husbands via "manage signatures" or even directly from "Create signature from Facetime HD Camera", it shows his signature as we hold it up, but when we click 'accept' it disappears and isn't available on the signature drop down.  I can't seem to get it to save and it's so frustrating!
Has anyone else had this problem and was there a reason being overlooked?

Information by some who got it to work.

In another discussion, some people solved it by taking a picture of the signature in Photo Booth and then trying again in Preview.

  • Firefox search box no longer displays any search engines and won't save any new ones

A while back the default search box in firefox 4 randomly lost all the search engines in it and the box to restore defaults is permanently greyed out so I can't restore it. I've tried deleting the files mentioned in other responses as well as just moving them out of the folder with no success. I feel that the only way to possibly fix this is to completely remove all traces of firefox from my laptop and reinstall but i'd rather not go through reinstalling all the add ons I have etc if it can be helped with a simpler fix.

I said in my initial post that I had tried all those fixes. Tried everything with the sqlite files and the form history. No luck. Don't have either of the extensions and it can't be any of the others as even in safe mode it still isn't any different. I have also performed plenty of virus scans and nothing has come up.

  • 7.2 won't save artwork, where can I get previous version of iTunes?

iTunes 7.2 won't save any new artwork. When I press the 'Add' button in the Artwork window, I can select a .jpg file, it displays in the Artwork window, but NOT in the Selected Item window. I want to download a previous version of iTunes, but all I can find is 7.2. Can anybody help?

  • Settings won't save Yahoo mail after adding second verification?

My Yahoo email was hacked.   Most of the emails in my Yahoo account were sent a spam mail from my Yahoo account.
As advised, I changed my password and added some extra security - a second verification so no one can login to my account without additional security questions or verification code.
No problem adding email back on my android phone.   But my iPad and I can't figure it out.
I signed out of yahoo mail on iPad.   Deleted the account in settings.   Verified it was gone.
Added the account back in settings, or tried to.   I get the message server unavailable.   It won't save the new password.   It won't trigger second verification.
I went through Safari and I can login to Yahoo mail on Safari.
I am also able to add the account to the yahoo mail app and use it.   But my iPad is constantly asking for the password.
I'm hoping someone else has had a similar problem and solved it.

I hope I have a self answering question.... Thanks to the "more like this" side bar.
the problem comes from your second sign-in verification, go to your setting in your yahoo account then go to Edit your account info, then go to Manage your app password a new page come out, go to the Manage your app passwords box and write " my iphone mail" then press generate password, this will give you a long password this password you gonna use it ones in your iphone and ones in your ipad.
then go to your iphone open setting then go to your emails, contacts, calender. Then press yahoo account and go to your yahoo account information, erase the old password and enter the new long password and done.
hope work for you guys, did work for me.

  • Updated Firefox won't save my preferences; reverts to original settings.

A few days ago, Firefox updated itself to the 18.0.1 version. Now, each time Firefox updates itself, I tend to lose some of my preferences, those being: opening new tabs as a blank page, tabs being on the bottom, and showing my windows and tabs from last time. Usually, though, once I go and change these things back to the way I like them, they stay like that and I have no further problems.
However, this time Firefox won't save my preferences. The tabs go back to being on top, the tabs I last closed aren't there, and these tool bars I don't want keep appearing. Instead, three tabs are always there upon opening Firefox: Welcome to Firefox, Mozilla Firefox Start Page, and Yahoo! Toolbar. Also, when opening a new tab, the page says, "page does not exist" or something, and the URL is not even comprehensible, just random letters like someone bashed their head into the keyboard, something like: "jkfui87$^&%$$09."
I've tried resetting Firefox like it says in the "How to fix preferences that won't save" page, but it didn't help. As for deleting certain files from the profile folder, before I resetted Firefox, I only had "user" and "prefs" and "Invalidprefs" which weren't exactly what that self-helping page asked for so I didn't delete them. After I resetted Firefox I lost the "user" file, but I still have the other two. Should I try deleting them even if they're not exactly like the page describes? They are missing the ".js" part so I haven't felt comfortable messing with them.
Please give me some advice. I'm tired of having to go change my settings in "about:config" each time I open Firefox. But I really don't want to try anything that would delete my bookmarks or history, as I'm very dependent of them.

Obviously no one here actually READS these things, I tried all of that even did a clean install, even uninstalled all user data and THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE!
Your help is completely useless, All you people do is copy and paste the same thing over and over. If it didn't work the first 20 times it's still not going to work no matter how many times you copy and paste the same fucking link.
You have lost a die hard fan of Firefox, I am switching to another browser.
Unfortunately I tried older versions of Firefox and had to go all the way back to Firefox 4 and now the problem is fixed.
