Dockable windows for a website?

Does anyone know if it's possible to create dockable windows
for a website?

The browser runs in a window. Popups can be positioned on the
display but
they are not dockable in the sense I think your wondering
about. The closest
implementation to "dockable" is achieved using ASP.NET
WebParts that can be
dragged around within the browser and docked within a
specific zone.

  • Firefox will not open a new window for a website when it is supposed to and then will not close properly. I have un-installed and re-installed and problem persists, why? How is it solved?

When I go on to some websites and click on certain things it wants to open a new window to display the information etc.
I.E. On an agency job search site I click to do a detailed job search which should open in a new window, but this will not happen now on my Firefox.
Firefox was working perfectly ok on Saturday 11th September but for some unknown reason has acted up since Sunday.
There have been no Windows updates which could effect this and the laptop is otherwise working perfectly ok.
Nothing has changed from Saturday Night to Sunday Night that I can see.
I have even tried to do a system restore to solve the problem but with no success.

I also have this problem. I cannot open links from a discussion board I frequent nor can I open links from my email. Also after opening my email, I cannot go to any other sites except my home page. I can then go no where else.
When I close Firefox and try to reopen it, it does nothing! I have to bring up the Task Manager and end the Firefox process before I can get back in.
To the best of my knowledge, this problem started with the new update to Ver. 3.6.9. I am running Windows XP Media Center 2005

  • My safari is messed up.  Every time I do anything it randomly opens a new window for a website that looks like a virus. It also will not let me watch anything on Netflix. I don't know what to do, someone help!

Every time I try to do anything on my safari it randomly opens new windows to what looks like fraud websites.  Also it will not let me watch anything on Netflix. Please help!

You may have installed the "DownLite" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "VSearch" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/Jack.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
    /Library/Application Support/VSearch
    /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/Jack
    /System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ConduitNPAPIPlugin.plugin
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot" or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
This trojan is distributed on illegal websites that traffic in pirated movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect much worse to happen in the future.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the DownLite developer has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight is inexcusable and has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

Problem: There is 1 website which I had downloaded a pdf from in the past, now this download window continues to popup every couple minutes with a window for me to download again. When this download windows opens I have to click "cancel" repeatedly to get it to close.
I use to have this issue about a year ago, but I found the problem with a program and uninstalled it. But I am not finding anything like that this time.

If this happens when you click the Home button then check if you haven't included an automatic download page as one of the home pages.<br />
Firefox supports multiple home pages separated by '|' symbols
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/How+to+set+the+home+page
Try to delete the downloads.sqlite file in the Firefox profile folder.
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
You can try to reset Firefox if the above didn't fix it.
If you reset Firefox then a new profile is created and some of your data (bookmarks, passwords, cookies, form data) is automatically imported and your current profile will be moved to the desktop (Old Firefox Data).
You can recover more data from the old profile (be cautious with doing that).

  • Windows Media Player Extension "Add-on for this website failed to run" except for Administrator

This is on a Windows server 2008 r2. I am trying to allow users to watch help videos at a vendor site. If I remote desktop using the Administrator, I can play the videos and if I check the "manage add-ons", I see Windows Media Player as an extension.
If I remote desktop on as a "normal user" and try to view the same video, I get the error message "An add-on for this website failed to run" and if I check the "manage add-ons", Windows Media Player extension is not there. That
makes sense, since if it is not there, it won't run.
Why isn't Windows Media Player extension showing up in IE 10 on the server for anyone other than Admin? How could I make this work? If I am somehow preventing this from taking place, where would I go on the server to change that?

    Hi,
Have you try adding this video website into trusted sites zone or compatibility view list?
Generally, improper security settings may casue failure to run some add-ons. So, please attempt to  decrease  security level for Internet Zone to check if this issue still occurs.
How do you think your issue is related to Windows Media Player extension? Based on my knowledge, Flash player plug-in can lead to the problem. Please reinstall your flash player for the current user.
Also, Please check in event log for more clues.

  • I cannot understand the answers provided when I ask 'how to change a password for a website' in Firefox Options tab.

The answers that your website have provided have not done me any good. I use a Master Password for Firefox. Now Firefox is not asking me if I want it to remember a certain password that I have entered for a website. In the 'Options' tab, I have told Firefox that I do not want to be tracked; that I don't want it to remember the history; and not to accept third-party cookies. What is it that I have to do in 'Options' so that Firefox remembers a new password (I have changed a password recently). I would really appreciate an actual answer, rather than a link to "some answers already posted".
I'm using Firefox 33.1. Windows XP - Service Pack 3.
    Thank you.

Are you saying that you changed your history setting here:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Privacy
to "Firefox will: Never remember history"?
This causes Firefox to always start up in a private browsing session. According to the help article "[[Usernames and passwords are not saved]]":
<blockquote>If you use the Firefox Private Browsing feature, no passwords will be automatically filled in for your Private Browsing window or in permanent Private Browsing mode, and no new passwords will be saved.</blockquote>
So hopefully that helps connect the dots.
If you prefer to keep using automatic private browsing, you may need to use an add-on to manage your passwords instead of Firefox's built-in password manager.
Or if you want to adjust other Firefox settings so that they are as close as possible to private browsing, we can suggest how to do that instead.

How can I add the Language Toolbar to my English version of Firefox? I want to be able to switch to Japanese language for certain websites and when typing e-mails.
There should be something that allows me to switch back and foth between Japanese and English...or is that in Windows XP and not in the browser?

  • Upgrading Windows Azure Pack Websites from Update 4 to Update 6 SQL Schema Update Issues

It seems like the SQL script used to upgrade from Update 4 to Update 6 used a SQL Server Enterprise edition only feature and it's causing the update to fail on the controller. Is there an ETA from MSFT to resolve this issue?
All posted advice may not be all that accurate. As always, test it in a lab before you try my advice! Best of all, the documentation is your friend.

And when I click "Trust" I can then move on to my PDF Download. This was never an issue before and wonder how I can rectify this? Does it have something to do with a 'plug in'?

Using layers for page layout is just asking for trouble.
    Trouble with
centering content, and trouble with expanding text.
Use tables until you can manage a proper CSS layout scheme,
    i.e., NOT
    layers. Start here -

  • Firefox not displaying favicon/.ico file for specific website

Firefox has always displayed the favicon for my website, until recently. Now there is just a blank space where the favicon should be. I am able to see the favicon for all other websites except my own. It is a wordpress site, so I followed their most recent instructions for adding a favicon. I even tried some other guidelines and tips for adding .ico files, just in case wordpress was missing something, but still no luck. I have double-checked the file format as a 16x16px .ico file and made sure the code & image location within my website directory was correct... Everything looks as it should. The favicon is displaying perfectly in all other browsers I tried, such as Chrome, Safari, Opera & IE. I have cleared my cache, cleared my browser history and even uninstalled/reinstalled Firefox. I also tried another computer using a different IP address. It just isn't displaying.
When I preview the .ico file under 'page info -> media' it looks like Firefox is locating the image and recognizing the file dimensions, but nothing appears in the preview window and under 'file size' it just says "unknown (not cached)."
Here is the link to the site: http://www.mattielynn.com/
Does anyone know why this might be happening?

That image doesn't seem to be working in Firefox 3 and 8 (works in Firefox 9 and later).
It works if I save it as 24 bit instead of 32 bit.

  • Unable to delete cookies for individual websites

Am running Firefox 29 on Windows 8.1 64 bit.
This arose because a particular website was having difficulty setting a cookie (I think) - FF was giving the error that the website server was redirecting the request in a way that couldn't be completed - but with the caveat that it could be caused by cookies not being permitted. So I tried deleting the cookie for that particular website but FF seems not to comply. It is removed from the list of cookies in the dialog box and I can close the dialog, however if I reopen it the cookie it still shown as present. Doing it a second time doesn't help.
I then found that this doesn't just apply apply to one particular website, it's any website that stores a cookie. Cookies are set to be deleted when they expire as I find it useful for some website to store cookies (I can't seem to find a whitelist which allows cookies to be deleted except for those on the whitelist, this in contradistinction to the blacklist which prevent certain websites from setting cookies at all).
    I've tried the following:
    (1) open FF in safe mode but I get the same result (cookie not deleted)
    (2) with FF closed rename the cookies.sqlite file out of the way. Starting then with a "clean" cookie file I still get the same result (cookie not deleted).
I can confirm the cookie isn't deleted by quickly opening the cookies.sqlite and searching for the website string.
I have tried setting FF cookie "policy" to remove all at the end of session and that works - but it also removes the useful ones as well. Does anyone have some ideas?

<BR>While you are in safe mode;<BR>
    '''''Firefox Options > Advanced > General'''''.<BR>
Look for and turn off '''Use Hardware Acceleration'''.<BR>
Poke around safe web sites and see if there is still a problem. Then restart.

  • EA3/EA2 - Log dockable window and update flagging

I really like the log dockable window, but I have noticed an issue (in my opinion) with how it handles updates (ie log messages being logged) when the dockable window is minimised.
When the window is minimised, I have the Log tag at the bottom of my screen and there is no visible notification when messages are logged to one of the sub-tabs on the dockable window. If I open up the Log window, then the sub-tab that has been logged to is highlighted. However, this means that with the Log window minimised, I don't know when messages I am not expecting to be logged actually get logged.
Is is possible to have the Log tag that is visible when the window is minimised to notify that there has been messages logged?

I don't minimize my log window just resize it to only show the tabs, so I see the highlighted tabs. However, as you point out this does not occur for a minimized window. I have logged bug 6982272
