Dockbarx problem in XFCE4

Hello!
I'm trying to install dockbarx with yaourt from the AUR. However, I'm having a problem... When trying to install I get this error message:
/tmp/alpm_GYIvxX/.INSTALL: line 4:    You may need to rebuild python-keybinder against python2 2.7: command not found
error: command failed to execute correctly
When I try to run it on my XFCE desktop with the xfapplet, I get this error:
'DockBarX Applet' could not be loaded.
An internal error occurred and the applet could not be loaded.
And it doesn't load. I think it has to do with that Python upgrade I've been reading. Please help.

Nevermind... Did a pacman -Syu and was able to add dockbar.

  • Problem with xfce4-session.

Hello, I'm not sure whether I'm posting in the correct section of the forums but anyway, here's the problem, after upgrading the system xfce started crashing randomly (It definitely crashes when I try to suspend first time, then it does it correctly). I took a look in Xorg and fglrx log files, they didn't contain any errors. However, dmesg listed a segfault of xfce4-session in libglib, is there any solution for that problem or I just have to wait until the upgrade. Also, I have and AMD E-450 APU, and a proprietary catalyst driver from catalyst-stable. Here is the output from dmesg (the segfault message is in the end):

Yes, it keeps happening even with the default kernel when I try to shut down/suspend the computer (Alt-F4 key combination). I've read on some russian forum that it's the problem in recently upgraded glib2 (as they think), however downgrade didn't help. I'll try to check whether xfce4-session is to blame.
EDIT: It's definitely not xfce4-session, I tried previous version. Also, while running downgrade I saw that there is a newer version of glib2 in ARM, which is much more unstable, so I'm using 2.36.1-1.

  • Problem running xfce4 with xdm

    G'day,
I'm trying to get xdm happening but I'm having some problems.
After searching the forums I created a ~/.xsession file with the same content as my working ~.xinitrc and changed the runtime in inittab.
After rebooting login in xdm doesn't work. I just keep returning to the login screen.
Checking out my ~/.xsession-errors file, I have
    /home/mctavish/.xsession: line 5: exec: startxfce4: not found
It works if I use the full path - but then of course falls down when startxfce4 tries to call xfwm4 and so on. So it looks like a path problem.
I know that the /opt/xfce4/bin path is setup in /etc/profile.d/xfce4.sh, which is called from /etc/profile.
Note too that I have never had any problems using startx to get xfce4 up and running.
So it seems to me that somehow /etc/profile is not being called (or whatever) when I use xdm. Is this crazy talk? In fact /etc/profile is not executable, so how it normally run and from where?
Of course I could just use gdm but the pain of having all those unnecessary gnomish packages on my system would be unbearable.

    Try this /etc/X11/xdm/Xresources

  • [SOLVED] few right-management related problems in XFce4

I'm new to XFce (just installed it yesterday...] and while the DE itself is amazing, I have a few problems...
    1. I cannot delete shortcuts from desktop as a normal user.
[SOLVED] 2. I cannot mount external storage media as a normal user [and yes I have udev set up to mount them and pmount installed]. - solution: add dbus-launch to .xinitrc, even if you have dbus in rc.conf...
Any ideas on how to fix these?
    Thanks,

    Yes.
Is the problem related to other hdd partitions or usb sticks?
dbus-launch will start automatically, if you have dbus in DAEMONS and "exec ck-launch-session startxfce4" in ~/.xinitrc.  At least this works for me (no DM)...
I DO have 'dbus' in /etc/rc.conf, but it seems that I had to manually add dbus-launch to my user-specific .xinitrc file - not sure why...

  • Xfce4 file associations simple problem

Can anyone help me with some simple file association problems in xfce4?

Startup failed because of the following error:

I've set the preferred application to Opera in the Settings menu, but no difference.
Additionally, can anyone point to somewhere explaining how to write custom commands for opening files in thunar. For example, it doesn't recognise .torrent files, and I'd like to launch them in Azureus when I click on them.
    Any help appreciated!

yeah - but azureus isn't listed as one of the  applications I can pick from. Not sure what to do...

  • [SOLVED] Problem copying objects in Inkscape 0.48.0-4

I have problems when I copy any object when using inkscape. Even after removing the config directories and using a completely blank document.
I create a simple rect and press ctr+c (or use the context menu) and this error comes up:
El script inkex.py y, por lo tanto, esta extensión necesitan la envoltura lxml («lxml wrapper») para libxml2. Descargue
e instale la última versión de http://cheeseshop.python.org/pypi/lxml/ o mediante su gestor de paquetes con un
comando similar a este: sudo apt-get install python-lxml
It says "inkex.py", which comes with the package, needs python-lxml. So I install the package, close inkscape, remove the configuration directories and try again.
Now it throws this error message:
No matching node for expression: /svg:svg/@sodipodi:docname
    Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "gimp_xcf.py", line 185, in <module>
    e.affect()
File "/usr/share/inkscape/extensions/inkex.py", line 215, in affect
    self.effect()
File "gimp_xcf.py", line 43, in effect
    docname = self.xpathSingle('/svg:svg/@sodipodi:docname')[:-4]
TypeError: 'NoneType' object is not subscriptable
The script "gimp_xcf.py" also comes with the package. No clue why it is calling it since I'm only trying to copy (not even paste) from a clean svg document.
I click accept and this error message comes up asking me to install uniconvertor:
You need to install the UniConvertor software.
For GNU/Linux: install the package python-uniconvertor.
    For Windows: download it from
    http://sk1project.org/modules.php?name=Products&product=uniconvertor
and install into your Inkscape's Python location
I install uniconvertor, delete the configuration directories and try again. The previous "gimp_xcf.py" error message comes up, I click accept again only to get another error dialog:
    No layers found
I click accept again and now I can paste the object. But the "gimp_xcf.py" and "No layers found" dialogs keep coming up in a loop which can only be stopped by killing inkscape.
I doubt very much this is a upstream issue since I couldn't find it in inkscape's bug tracker (such obvious bug would have been reported already) I also cannot find any report in arch's bug tracker. So I'm unsure if I should report this, anyone else has this problem? All related packages are up to date.

I found I was having this problem running xfce4.8
There seems to be some talk about it here https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/418242
It seems that clipboard managers may be causing the problem. I wasn't running xfce4-clipman but I found that killing xfce4-settings-helper fixed the problem for me.
    Hope this helps.

  • [SOLVED]Xfce4 not displaying any characters.

I got this weird problem with xfce4.
I have an old machine I want to use as a bittorrent client. For this I want to use xfce4 (with azureus).
So now that I've installed xfce4 none of the characters on the screen are shown correctly. They're all just squares?
Thinking I had a font problem, I started going through all my installed fonts, and even installing some extra fonts. None of it helped.
I'm not sure if it is related to the problem, but when I kill X.org there are some messages in the console. They look like this one:
Pango-WARNING **: pango_cairo_font_get_scaled_font called with bad font, expect ugly output.
I've also been trying different settings for the locale, thinking it might be a localization problem. That didn't help either.
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong here?
If there are any config or log files you would like to see, just let me know.
    EDIT:
Nevermind. It never stops to amaze me how incredibly stupid I can be.
Pango of course needs the sdl_pango package to function properly! Of course I was under the impression that all dependencies were handled automatically?
Have a nice New Years Eve everyone.

  • Middle mouse button problem after arch update

    Dear Arch Users,
I have a very strange problem in xfce4 with middle mouse button after arch linux update. It is especially annoying in firefox. Earlier, the middle button just opened a new tab (in firefox) now it also tryies to go back everywhere it can... So, when I am on a some site, I try to open some link by middle button click, it is opened in a new tab - OK, but the firefox goes also to the previos site on a current tab - it is terrible...
    I am using xfce 4.8.0 and xorg 1.9.5 (RC1).
    Cheers,

  • [solved] xfce4-panel plugins keep crashing after update

I've been having problems with xfce4-panel after some recent updates. Several plugins for it, like the Action Buttons, CPU graph and Notification Area keep crashing right after being added to the panel. The error message isn't very helpful, just saying the plugin in question "unexpectedly left the panel". Any ideas on how to debug this?
    Last edited by vox.cogitatio (2012-06-12 15:36:38)

I found the problem. I was running the panel without the rest of xfce4. I thought this was doable, but apparently some applets assume you have the base packages of xfce4 installed, as the problems ceased when I installed them.

  • [Xfce4] Issue with creating new tab in terminal

So, when I create a new tab in terminal I got a black rectangle in the top left corner of my screen it dimensions is like terminal window itself.
I have this problem on Xfce4 and Lxde as well.
What info do you need to help me with this issue?
    Thanks,
    Igor.

I noticed that problem with Xfce's terminal as well. I remember it also effecting firefox or other windows depending on how I moved things around.
I think I may have solved the issue by disabling Xfce's desktop effects, or something to that effect. I haven't seen the problem since I switched over to xmonad though.

  • [SOLVED] Xfce 4.8, "no running instance of xfce4-panel has been found"

    Hello fellow Archers!
I just upgraded my Xfce installation to version 4.8, but I have a weird problem with xfce4-panel. After upgrading the system via pacman I've rebooted, and after logging in I couldn't see the Xfce's panel anymore! Moreover, a dialog box pops up saying that "no running instance of xfce4-panel has been found". I've tried to fix this issue by launching xfce4-panel through a terminal, and then saving the session before logging out. Now when I log in, I can finally see the panel, but the pop up window keeps coming out every single time. Do you have any suggestions on what could be the issue?
    Thanks in advance!

Behemot you'd better start a different thread. May be a different issue as this one is solved.
    isn't it supposed to start from /etc/xdg/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-session.xml ? Here's what's in mine:

  • [SOLVED] xfce4-panel: Window buttons w/ Compiz

Hi, I've successfully done the seemingly daunting task of getting Compiz to work with XFCE. Everything appears to be set up, got my keyboard shortcuts in order, etc., however I don't like how the xfce4-panel's Window Buttons behave when running with Compiz. I have specifically set it to show only windows visible on the current desktop (or as Compiz calls it, viewports), but it looks like it still shows all windows from all viewports, as if like it treats all of them as one big desktop. I know this is a problem with xfce4-panel still thinking that it's communicating with xfwm, but I do like to resolve this annoying pet peeve. Are there any workarounds/fixes/patches for this that could help? Thanks in advance.

I made Compiz autostart with XFCE using the first method with the Fusion icon as described in Compiz's Arch Wiki article. Perhaps it is related to Xfwm and Compiz running together? I'll try the other methods and see if the problem persists.
EDIT: I fixed it, I just followed the solution on this thread and everything works perfectly now. Seems like Googling with the right keywords will almost always point me to the solution.

  • Xfce4 hangs opening terminal, etc.

    Hi!
I'm having a _very_ strange problem with Arch + Xfce4 + old Compaq (Intel 82810 DC-100 CGC Chipset)
I have searched a lot of forums and it seems that people are having similar problems, just the solution is missing
    So, the situation is:
I got the Xfce4 up and running with i810 driver. Everything seems to work fine until I try to open the terminal emulator, the one with an icon on the default xfce panel. Screen goes "rainbow" and it totally hangs, can't kill X by ctrl+alt+bspace. So I need to reboot from ssh or power button (is there a better way, not having to reboot?)
    Now, the real strangeness begins:
I try and open xfce again. Sometimes it starts ok, some other time not. Gives an error: "Fatal server error: Active ring not flushed"
    or in Xorg.0.log:
"(WW) I810(0): xf86UnMapVidMem: cannot find region for [0xb3a94000,0x3000000]"
Also yesterday I noticed that as root, I can use both startx and startxfce4.
Normal user gets xfce but not plain x... :S
Vesa driver works ok, but I can't get the resolution and refresh rate high enough.
I think there might be several problems because of different error messages etc...
One thing I found was a faulty memory module, gave ~20 errors in memtest before it was even 50% finished...
    Removed it, no go still.
Or is it just the direction of wind and the position of the moon
    End of the Xorg.0.log:
    (==) I810(0): Write-combining range (0x44000000,0x4000000)

  • Intel gma 4500mhd with displayport

    Hello.
I have lenovo t500 (2055-2MG) and Dell 24" ultrasharp U2414H monitor. I connected it with displayport - minidisplayport to the notebook, but it does not work with intel gma 4500Mhd. The display shows No signal. I use Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit version.
I read about T410, that displayport is disabled on integrated graphics. Is it concerns for t500 also?
How can I use this integrated graphics with this external monitor?
    Thank you.

Thanks for the help! I've tried what you said above and disabled KMS as explained on http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Intel. Disabling KMS didn't work with 2.10.0-1, but it did with 2.9.1.1.
I havn't been able to test wheter or not this solves the problems yet. It seams to me that the screen brightness is lower now, and that's good. However, for the screen-flickering problem I'm not sure if it's gone or not yet, and as for the the weirdness of the Power Management it is still there (it is still increasing the brightness lowers the brightness instead). However, that's a minor problem compared to the brightness changing itself all the time.
