Docked iPod only outputs sound during video to TV

I have a 5G iPod in an Apple dock, connected to my TV using a Monster audio cable and an S-Video cable. For some reason, it only outputs sound during videos or a photo slide show - not at all for music only playback. I'm baffled! Any idea why? It's a Panasonic plasma, and I've tried three different inputs. None work for music, but video is fine.

The iPhone 4, unlike iPod, doesn't ask you to set for PAL or NTSC.  In fact, in the SETTINGS/Video menu it only asks if you want to "Start Playing From Beginning", "Closed Captioning" and "Home Sharing".  I was surprised it had no settings like the iPod at all.

  • HT1459 my  4th generation ipod only has sound with headphones

my 4th generation ipod only has sound with headphones how can i fix this problem

    - Try inserting/removing the headphone plug at least a dozen time.
    - Cleanout/blowout the headphone jack
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod
If still problem that indicates a hardware problem. Likely the headphone jack is bad.

  • Ipod nano 3rd gen. doesnt have sound during videos

i upload videos into itunes and they play fine, with sound. after converting to ipod format the sound is lost. the video is fine, but the sound is either absent or loud crackling. help please!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
If the sound is absent, it is probably because it is muxed, or the video and audio are all on one track. If you open the video in QuickTime Player, and go under the Window menu to Show Movie Inspector. In the Format line, if you see anything like, "MPEG1 Muxed", or the word 'Muxed' at all, you will need to use a program to 'demux' it.
There are programs such as MPEG Streamclip, available for download at [http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-win.html] that can demux audio. Under the File Menu, there are options to demux it, or save as MPEG-4.
If you don't like that, you can use VLC Media Player [www.videolan.org/vlc] to convert. When you open a file, click Streaming/Saving Options, and save as an MP4.
Sorry, but I don't know how to help you with crackling, but following the same directions as above may help. Please let me know. I'll search around to see if I can find anything about that.

  • My iPod only outputs right channel sound...

This issue has been plaguing me for a while now, but my iPod's finally had it and is absolutely not outputting sound out of one channel. The left channel in this case. Previous fixes mainly were to press on the iPod in various places, looking for that sweet spot. Once this spot was found, sound would start playing out of the left channel again.
    This solution no longer works.
So, what do I do now? My Warranty's long expired, so...

have you trouble-shot the problem using different sets of headphones to make sure it really is your ipod that's broken, and not just the headphones? if so, iresq is the way to go.

  • 80GB ipod only outputs in black and white

I just bought a new 80GB 5th Gen iPod and hooked it up to my TV and it only outputs the picture in Black and White. If I take my old 60GB 5th Gen iPod it will output a picture no problem in color with the same TV and the same cable hooked up the same way.
All TV out settings are the same:
TV Out: Ask (I turn to ON)
    NTSC
    Widescreen On
Cable: Apple's iPod AV Cable M9765G/A
The weird thing though is if I take my new 80GB 5th Gen iPod and hook it up to my "MyVu" headsup display, it displays in color. It just won't do it on my TV.
Why won't it display color on my TV?

Try a different Video file on the 80 GB;to see if any changes? Are there any other title;s Videos are Podcast,
TV Shows that will playback in color-- if so It's possible that your file format is not compatible.
Check to see how the video files are define by format, frame rate etc; that your using as a reference to playback on TV.
See if you have any other Video's on the 80GB that will play in color.
Make sure your 80GB is using Itunes Version 7.0 or higher

  • Stream only playing sound (no video) in latest Mac browsers?

I built an app using SMP 1.6.274 inside Flex Hero targeting Flash 10.1.102.64.
The  app ran fine in an OSX 10.6.7 running Firefox 3.4, but not Safari 5.05  or Chrome 11.0.696.65 on a Mac: the stream plays only sound and shows no  video.
I installed the latest version of Flash Player  10.2, on the chance that there was a conflict with the older Flash  Player and the newer Chrome and Safari browsers, but that didn't solve  the issue. I then downloaded Firefox 4.0, and it also plays only the  sound.
So I tried to install Flex 4.5.20967, the latest  build and target Flash Player 10.2, but ran into a number of problems  (mainly losing the connection to the spark.components.Application), so  rebuilt the application back around Flex Hero, but still have no video  on all three Mac browsers.
I verified that everything is working fine from the FMS server by running older players.
I am not sure what else to do at this point and am wondering if someone can point me in the right direction.
    Thanks.

With Flash Player 10.2 the new StageVideo API became available. Using this new API enables hardware accelerated video rendering, boosting video performance and reducing CPU usage.
In the latest OSMF builds (starting with the OSMF 1.6 Sprint 1 build) support for the StageVideo is enabled by default.
What you've experienced it's a known limitation of using OSMF or SMP in a Flex application, where the video is shown behind all the Flex components.
To make your video visible, you have to set backgroundAlpha=”0″ for your mx:Application or other flex containers of your video.
Alternatively, if you don't want the performance boost you get from using StageVideo, you can disable it and your app should work as expected.
    Here's how you do that: OSMFSettings.enableStageVideo = false;
As for your latest post, Chrome has it own version of Flash Player bundled with the browser and it manages the updates by itself.
I suspect you still have 10.2 installed in chrome. Use Chrome to visit this link to learn what version of Flash Player it's using: http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
    I hope this helps!

  • My IPOD WONT PLAY SOUND ON VIDEOS

i just got an ipod and i can play videos but there is no sound. the videos i want to play are music videos i have downloaded and ren and stimpy videos and meet the barkers tv series. i have clicked convert to ipod in itunes and they convert but after they convert they lose there sound on itunes and when i transfer them to the ipod there is no sound. has anyone else got this problem or have an idea to correct it. please help cuz i have minimal ipod / computer knowledge and i need all the help i can get thanks

i downloaded a few videos and they played fine on
itunes. BUT, they couldnt be added to my ipod. i
followed instructions to convert them for my ipod but
the converted videos dont have any sound. when i put
the converted videos on my ipod, they wont play- they
show up like a song- white background, name of song
and band, and, instead of the album cover, there is a
still frame from the video. is there something wrong
    with the videos??? help!!!!
That sometimes happend to me when I converted the videos using Itunes....So, I use this converter instead...
    Videora Ipod Coverter
    http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/
It'a a free program to download and your videos should play fine in your ipod once you use this to covert them.
As for the videos not playing for you, it could be the fact that you coverted them using Itunes, so try the above converter instead and that should work okay. If that still doesn't work for you try getting your settings back to their original state - Go to 'Settings' and then 'reset Settings' and this will put your settings back the way they were once you bought the ipod originally. The videos should definately play in your ipod then.
If you need anymore help, just let me know, I know how annoying it is when the videos won't play properly!!!
    Good luck with it!

  • HT3209 Prometheus only plays sounds, no video.

I downloaded Prometheus today and it only plays the sounds, no video.  Anyone else having this problem?  I have downloaded the movie 3 times with the same problem.  Is there a contact for Itunes to report broken downloads?

I am having the same exact issue, the non HD  version that comes with it plays fine but the HD one will not show anything other then a blackscreen. I have no problems playing any other HD content and i can play bluray discs fine on my pc.

  • IPhone 4: connecting to TV for the 1st time with new "Composite AV Cable" only plays sound, not video on TV. However, this new cable works fine with old iPod to play videos on TV. Suggestions?

I'm trying to connect my iPhone 4 to my TV to play videos via use of a new "Composite AV Cable" but only sound will play off TV, not video.  I've tried every yellow/red/white input on the TV but to no avail.  Any suggestions?

  • IPod only funnels sound through left speaker

my iPod Classic (120 gb) has suddenly stopped funneling sound through both speakers and now only plays through the left speaker, on whatever output i'm using, be it speakers, headphones, whatever. I had a similar problem with the last iPod i had -- a 30gb iPod video -- and my main question i suppose is if this is an easy fix with a simple solution or if my ipod is screwed and its time to get a new one. Thanks preemptively for all of your responses, hopefully i don't have to go too long without hearing both sides of harmonized guitar solos -_-

i would check the headphone 35mm jack for any foreign materials, as they may cause lessened connectivity.

  • Why Can I Only Get Sound On Video's

I have a 30gig iPod and have a few vid's I would like to watch on it while travelling. I converted a number of .avi formatted vid's to the .mp4 that ipod requires using winAVI but on trying to watch the then converted files on my PC or the iPod I only get the sound and no video(black screen). Any help would be appreciated.

There is a setting on the iPod under Videos -> Video Settings where you set the TV Out to ON/OFF/Ask. To watch on the iPod itself you should have it set for OFF or Ask. However, normally when it is set to ON, you still get a still screen on the iPod showing an icon of what is playing and text stating the name of the video. You don't normally get a black screen, which makes me think it might be something else.
But check the setting for TV Out all the same just to be sure. If it is ok, you might consider doing a reset and maybe even a restore to see if that works to fix the issue.

  • IPod Nano Output to Projector: Video Quality

    Hey guys,
I'm looking to buy a few iPod Nano's to use when we play video montages to our clients via LCD projector. Before I buy a bunch of these, I'd like to know what the output video quality will be. These are simple slideshow's created on iMovie and currently, we burn a dvd and simply connect the video out from the dvd player to the projector.
I'd like to simplify this by putting the video on a Nano, then connecting it to our LCD projector. Will I get similar results as with the DVD?
    Thanks!

The audio/optical out port will accept the tonslink miniplug for digital out only. You can also use the port for 1/8 " headphones without the miniplug. The video out is on the otherside, its the DVI port. The macbookpro comes with a DVI to VGA adapter. You should hook up your projector to the DVI or the VGA. If you projector does not have DVI or VGA you can adapt from VGA to RCA.

  • My ipod doesnt play sound on Videos

I have recently purchased the 80GB Ipod video, and I uploaded many videos but it doesnt play the sound.Could any one help me on this?

Quicktime or Quicktime Pro (which iTunes uses) don't convert "muxed" ( muxed means multiplexed where the audio and video are stored on the same track) video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
See:iPod plays video but not audio.
You need a 3rd party converter to convert the file with both audio and video.
See this for help: Guide to converting video for iPod (Mac/Windows).

  • Airport Express only outputs sounds through left channel

Recently purchased a new airport express.
Sound is only audible through the left channel. Sound through the right channel is barely audible even at max volume (speakers and iTunes).
Speakers are fine (they work fine through the stereo, iPod earphones also only work through left channel).
If I turn sound enhance on and up to high, I can finally hear through the right channel, but only at about 40-50% of the left.
Is this a software issue, or bad hardware?
I've hard reset the airport express multiple times. Same issue whether wirelessly or connected via ethernet. This is running from iTunes 7 for Windows using a Linksys router.

Doesn't sound promising for the AX. Since it was
recently purchased, do you have the option to visit
your local Apple Store to either return it for
replacement or, at least, have them verify the
    problem?
The reason why I thought it might be software related was due to this effect of changing the sound enhancer, i.e by turning the sound enhancer on and setting it to high there was a considerable increase in sound output. If there was a loose connection somewhere I don't think I'd expect this behavior. It's almost as if the balance has been set all the way to the right.
Given that no-one seems to have seen this problem before (other than a unresolved single old post on the Airport Express board), it does seem that you're right and the AX needs replacing.
