Docking Ipod Nano to usb car stereo

My wife purchased an Ipod nano (3rd generation) as a gift for me. I already have a generation 1 (only use it in car) and have no problem with it, this new one just WILL NOT WORK in the car, does anybody know why & how this can be resolved? NB - I connect it via the stereos built in USB socket.

Nano 3G only works with USB 1.1 and 2, the older ones used to work with USB 1.0 and that is probably the explanation for what you are seeing. Apple's compatibility table doesn't show that USB 1.1 works, but I know by experience, my PC has both.
Of course I don't know what kind of port your car stereo has, so I might be wrong.

Check with Alpine for the model number of the head unit you are using.

  • Use ipod nano in the car

    Hi,
I wanna use my ipod nano in the car. I know they have FM transmitter stuffs but I'd prefer not to have any bit of static and radio interference. So I asked my car dealer to install a headphone port in my car as an auxillary port (they said it's an ipod kit). But using with normal cable doesn't let me play around with ipod using the stereo buttons of the car. So I think what I need is a cable that has a dock connector at one end and a headphone port at the other. But it doesn't seem to be sold anywhere. Any thought or suggestion is greatly appreciated.

What car do you have? Not all cars have the ability to do this look though here for other options to do that http://www.apple.com/ipod/ipodyourcar/

  • Nano and Alpine Car Stereos

Took my Nano to my local independent car stereo installer this afternoon - I wanted to see what options gave me better sound than the FM modulators.
Excuse me if you all already know this, but Alpine's new head units and their iPod adapter work with the Nano - offering total control of your nano from the car stereo face. Song title and artist are displayed on the car stereo screen. And the Alpine iPod adapter even charges the Nano while attached.
I mean, the shop owner asked me for my Nano. He plugged it into the Alpine iPod interface. And within three or four ceconds, there was my first cut off my iPod! The car stereo displayed my iPod's name. And then (if I remember correctly) the song title - then the album name.
I was immediately sold. I chose the Alpine CDA-9851 head unit, plus the iPod adapter. Due to the fact that my Ford's original stereo was "double-DIN" in height, I will "gain" a little felt-lined shelf under this new Alpine - to hold the Nano, of course!
It all gets installed this Saturday! I'll report back after playing with it for a few hours.

There are plenty of options out there, and buying into the "brand name experience" is one of them. The benefits of your choice is that you have full control through the stereo itself (and possibly the steering wheel). Other options are less costly, but require manual control via the iPod.
    Have fun!

  • Connecting ipod nano 4G to home stereo

How do I connect my new 8GB iPod nano to my home stereo system in order to hear music that's on my nano over my home system? What kind of cable do I need. A local electronics store sold me a cable that's supposed to have worked but it only has one jack on each end: one for the ipod and one for the aux jack on the stereo receiver. But I aux on the stereo has 2 jacks, one red and one white. Please help

So you need a cable the 2 RCA connectors on that end and the stereo mini plug on the other for the iPod.

  • IPod Touch 4th Gen skipping and popping via USB car stereo...

I have a Pioneer AVH-P3100DVD car stereo and have the iOS 4.2.1 installed on my iPod Touch 4th Gen. Since 4.0.2 my iPod Touch has been flawless with playback. We all know the infamous 4.1 problems with the skipping of music via USB car in-dash car stereos. NOW, with the iOS 4.2.1 there is no skipping whatsoever. However, there is a lot of popping in the playback of my car stereo via USB. I've did a factory restore with iTunes and used some dust remover (air spray container) in the connector on the bottom of the iPod and also used the same dust remover on my USB syncing cable that I use in my car. Does anyone know what the problem may be? Thanks in advance.

I can't help with an answer, but i have noticed the same thing whenever i hook my ipod up to my pioneer 510-ub through the usb...all other mp3s and flashdrives work fine. the pops only occur when the ipod is hooked up.

  • Ipod Nano 7th Generation Car Radio Controls via USB Cable.

When I use my USB connection in my Hyundai for my ipod nano 7th generation, instead of playing what it was playing when I plugged it in, as it did with my previous nano, it plays random songs and I cannot navigate to podcasts I want to listen to as the navigation is clumsy and displays file names which are meaningless to me. How do I get it to play what I want to in my car?

It does not matter, as i stated this happened to me doing both. Currently I am using it now with the car, I got a newer car last week. But I think when I get out of the car it pauses anyways. I have noticed that if pauses I don't touch it, it stays on the same song for maybe 1 day.
If I don't use car for 3-4 days, it starts over again. That shouldn't matter though, if I did turn it off? I need help.......

  • When connecting iPod Nano to USB 2 Port it becomes very warm

I have a new iPod Nano. I connected it to the PC via USB 2 and the iPod started to be very hot on the top of ots back (behind the screen).
I disconnected it immediately, and tried again with another computer. I had the same problem.
    Any advice?

My ipod nano will not play through the USB cable on my 'ipod ready' car stereo. I think it is coz my files are saved as AAC files not MP3 and thats what the stereo recongises. How do i change this, as you say in previous comments that ipod selects AAC files as a default?
Please help, everyones else i know can play their ipod on my car stereo, just not me!!!
Any one know what to do???

  • Charging iPod Nano in the car

From other posts in this area it seems that the iPod Nano is able to be charged via an Apple Firewire/iPod cable but it will not sync (transfer tunes) via the Firewire cable.
This seems OK provided that I can continue to use my Griffin car charger to charge the Nano (I connect my current iPod headphone socket to an iFire amplifier and then directly to the car speakers
    (see http://www4.tpgi.com.au/users/aoaug/macosx.html#hifi )
Also I should be able to use my old iPod AC adapter with the firewire cable to the iPod dock connector. My main requirement is to be able to charge the iPod Nano will travelling when I dont have access to a computer with USB.
This all depends on being able to use the connector cable from the previous model iPod (20Gb) with teh Nano.

Yes your old iPod chargers will work as long as you can use a cable that connects to the bottom of the iPod (dock connector)
Also any charging accessory should work again as long as it can be connected as the iPods all required the same charge voltage, etc.

  • IPod nano in my car

    Hey guys-
I'm considering buying an iPod nano if I can get a few things answered before I do so.
I have a Kenwood car radio without a AUX input. I have found an adapter for my radio for $20 though that will give me an AUX input of "RCA stereo female inputs"
I'm wondering if I buy a nano if I can hook it up to that RCA stereo input? If so, I'll likely buy one, but it's not worth it to me if I can't play it through my car speakers.
Is this AUX input adapter all I need? Or is there more to it? Can the Nano hook up to an RCA stereo input?
Thanks in advance. I've been trying to figure this stuff out all day.

** YES, I used straight from my headphone jack to AUX RCA stereo plugs, no problem. **
    details...
I used a regular headphone jack to sterea RCA (you know to make sure the headphone jack portion of the cable has 2 rings around the tip for stereo) and I hooked it to the AUX in on my home stereo and it worked fine. However, it did not work so well going from the line out on the doc and the line out on the car charger/dock combo. Seems my audio out from other devices taking from the nano data port gives distorted static and such. But coming straight out from the nano headphone jack to split stereo RCA male plugs, plugging into an AUX, you should be golden... and very pleased.
I'm jealous, wish I had AUX input in my car stereo, I use a cassette-headphone jack adapter. I love my black nano, but please get yourself an Agent 18 case and do NOT even touch the thing until its sealed away. I'm sorry I didn't, it's scratched beyond recognition in just a little over amonth.

  • Compatibility issues with 1st Ipod Nano and In Car Windows MP3 media player

I use a mac pro running 10.5.6 leopard. My new car has a Windows formatted media MP3 player with USB connector which doesn't read my 1st generation Ipod nano. I can load the music files onto a flash drive and play them in the car but without any of the functionality of an Ipod.
How can I load music files onto my Ipod and use it in my car without
resorting to loading Windows on my mac and reformatting my Ipod to PC? Is
there a crossover bit of software available? Are more recent nano's formatted for both Mac and PC? I have saved the IPod as a external hard disk and converted all music files to MP3 which is the MP3's accepted format. I'm also sure I have the latest software for the IPod. Any ideas? Cheers.

OK I am confused. You say your car stereo has a Windows formatted MP3 player? What does that mean exactly? That the car stereo can play MP3s off of mass storage devices plugged into its USB port?
I think if the above is what you meant, then you have two problems. One is that your car stereo likely reads FAT32 formatted storage devices (and possibly, but doubtfully, Windows NTFS formatted devices). Your iPod is likely formatted in Mac format which your stereo won't be able to read.
That can be overcome. Simply restore your ipod on a Windows machine to put it into Windows format then plug it back into your Mac and use it that way. Macs can read and sync to Windows formatted iPods just fine.
But the other problem is, your stereo may not be able to actually control an iPod directly. Does the instruction say it can? Therefore it would be looking on the storage of the iPod that shows up as Mass Storage for tracks, not on the hidden area where iTunes stashes music into and your iPod plays music from.

  • Should I be able to listen to music from my iPod 5 on my car stereo?

I have a Pyle stereo in my car. I am having trouble listening to my iPod using the USB on the stereo. The Pyle support team says
It can't be done, that the USB is for mass storage devices. Isn't that what an iPod is? I am a little suspect of they're answer, especially after reading some posts. Can someone give me the scoop? Can I or can't I listen to my Ipod through the USB....PLEASE??

"that the USB is for mass storage devices. Isn't that what an iPod is? "
No.  It is not what an ipod touch is at all.
You can only listen to it via the USB if your car stereo supports it.  If it does not, then you cannot.
It sounds like your stereo does not support the ipod via USB

  • Ipod Nano and Icelink Car adapter

Well i recently installed the Icelink adapter on my BMW's Bussiness CD. I bought an Ipod Nano and i am facing a weird issue that noone can explain.
Though the Nano works fine with the CD player in my car, in certain songs "Warning" is displayed in the CD player's screen and either Nano or CD Player turns off and back on.
If i skip the song within 2-3 minutes moving forwards/backwards it works until i reach a song that can be played.
Note that i controll the Nano from the CD Player's menu buttons.
I have also upgraded it to software version 1.1.1 but still it does the same thing and only in certain songs.
It's weird cause all of these songs play fine in any player in my laptop and through Nano connected to my home stereo or earphones.
An other funny thing is that i connected another regular IPOD which interacts with the car's CD Player fine without having issues like the ones i mentioned above.
Does anyone have any idea why this issue occures??
    Thanks in advance.

    Well i figured it out.
In order for icelink to transmit the song played in Nano to the CD Player, all songs must have information related both to the Song title and artist name. Otherwise Icelink can not work properly and interact completely with the CD Player.
The info should be added through Itunes only.
