Docking solutions for Late 2013 MBPr

I recently started a new job and I was issued the latest version of the 13" MacBook Pro as my work machine. My setup currently consists of two 22" Dell monitors, which take up the majority of my desk space. For the first few days, I tried to use the two monitors as well as the laptop display as a third, however I wasn't satisfied with the legibility of the retina display (specifically when working in Windows) while at my desk. It seems as though it would be fine if the laptop was directly in front of me (in other words, if I were using as a laptop), but for the majority of the time, I'll be at my desk in front of the two Dell monitors.
Space is also a concern; for my desk phone to be comfortably within reach, it resides to the right of the second Dell monitor. In my current setup, the laptop is directly in front of it, so again, using that display doesn't really work in my favor (unless I want to close it every time I pick up the phone.
Finally, the mess of cords I have to disconnect from the MacBook each time I pick it up is not especially attractive or functional.
So, I'm wondering if there's a vertical docking solution (specifcially for the latest MacBook Pro) that might save some space on my desk as well as make the transition from desk work to field work a little more seamless. I've looked around a bit and found a few solutions for older MacBook Pros (like the Henge Docks), but these all seem to have too many connections for the new model.
Being able to place the closed laptop in a vertical stand that has plugs for all my devices at the bottom would be idea. In a perfect world, my dock would look something like these: http://hengedocks.com/images/m_HD01VA13MB.jpg
However, I've heard poor reviews about the Henge Docks (and again, they don't make one for the model I have) and everything else I've seen seems to be more or less a hub for cables with no dock compenent (which doesn't resolve my space issue).
So, my question is: Does the perfect dock exist? And if it doesn't, what are the alternatives? I bought a BookArc for my MacBook Air which gets the job done as far as not taking up too much space is concerned, but never looked into a solution for cable management. I don't think I'd be entirely opposed to getting two components for my work machine (say, a BookArc-like dock and a separate hub that combines all my cables into one connector). If I go that route, do I have any better options?

    Hi ctwitchell,
This forum is discussing about Windows Forms developing like Form design and Form control, your issue is more related with installing Windows 8.1. I will recommend you post your issue in the link below:

  • Late-2013 MBPr keyboard layouts in UAE

I am looking to order a late-2013 MBPr from the UAE Apple website. I want a laptop with a US style keyboard (the horizontal return key etc). There is an option named "Backlit Keyboard (US) & User’s Guide (English)".
Is this the US styled keyboard? (seen here http://www.acompatible.com/1958-6952-thickbox/apple-macbook-pro-17-inch-transluc ent-keyboard-protector-skin-cover-us-layout.jpg)
Or is it the other style english keyboard? (seen here http://realitypod.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/English-International-Keyboard. jpeg)
    Thanks for your help.

  • Using old Gateway monitor as second display for Late 2013 MBP?

    Hi all,
I'm currently running OSX 10.9.4 on a late 2013 MacBook Pro with 15-inch Retina Display. I recently took an old Gateway LCD monitor (with DVI and HDMI ports) off of someone's hands and was wondering if I'd be able to use it as a second display for my MBP. I have a DVI to HDMI adapter and an HDMI cable. If this is doable, instructions would be great.
    Thank you!
(Yes, this is a repost. I realized I posted the other one in the wrong section, and I was unable to move sections.)

I have, using the adapter, connected them via the MBP's HDMI slot and the other monitor's DVI port. The monitor turns on, but the Mac doesn't recognize the other display. The other display is simply blank after it's initial turn-on screen.

  • Where can I find a snug fitting sleeve for late 2013, 13" MBP with retina?

I was able to find many sleeves sold for MBP retina, but they also fit regular MBP. I want a snug fitting sleeve, specifically tailored for the retina display 13" MBP from late 2013. Does anyone know of any? Your help is appreciated.

I was about to provide you a link of a very nice case, but it's for the non-retina MacBook Pro's. You could use them but it your MacBook wouldn't fit tightly in them.

  • Anyone come up with a docking solution for MacBook- iMac

I still miss the days with the DuoDock.
I use my laptop heavily for work but when I'm home I'd love to just slip it (with lid CLOSED!) and plug a single cable in and have the video be presented on my iMac 27" (perhaps as a Spaces as another desktop screen).
Is there a solution for this?
    Thanks

    Hi there,
Depending on the age of your iMac, this may be possible. I have included a couple of links that I would recommend taking a look at below.

  • Hoping for a better docking solution for pen

I was really close to buying a Thinkpad 10, but eventually got the old Thinkpad Tablet 2 instead. One of my primary mobile applications is making annotations on PDFs while reading them, so the pen is really important. At the time the whole device should be light enough to effortlessly carry it on the run. Although the new pen may be better than the good old "toothpick", it just does not fit into the device and may get lost easily. Besides I just hate when things are scattered in pieces. I have also looked for a hard case sleeve with a full size compartment for the pen but have not found any.
So what I am hoping for is that the new product iteration will either have a version that can house the pen within the device or have a optional lightweight sleeve that can entirely house the pen. The current solution for Tablet and Helix is just clumsy at best.

  • Where to Download/Install 10.9.5 for Late 2013 Mac Pro??

    Hi,
Looking for a link to download Mavericks, 10.9.5. I'm running 10.10.1 but Avid Media Composer is not qualified for Yosemite yet. I don't have Time Machine back up because of a permissions problem I had that crashed the computer and even Time Machine wouldn't restore it. So right now I'm stuck on 10.10.1 since that is what is automatically installed when doing a fresh install through the recovery menu. Avid is crashing on me all the time and hoping running Mavericks is more stable.
    Thx

If your Mac originally came with Mavericks, Internet Recovery (Command+Opt+R - wired connection recommended) should allow Mavericks to be re-installed. It should also be listed in your App Store purchases.
From OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support
Which version of OS X is installed by OS X Recovery?
If you use the Recovery System stored on your startup drive to reinstall OS X, it installs the most recent version of OS X previously installed on this computer.
If you use Internet Recovery to reinstall OS X, it installs the version of OS X that originally came with your computer. After installation is finished, use the Mac App Store to install related updates or later versions of OS X that you have previously purchased.

  • SMC Firmware Update 1.1  for late 2013 Fusion drive.

I'm curious as to why I'm receieving the SMC Firmware Update 1.1 for my late 2103 iMac with Fusion drive when the update states flash only. What gives?

Thanks, I understand that Fusion is part ssd and part hdd. The firmware states that it's for flash only, and not fusion. That's what led to the confusion on my part.
I checked my software updates this morning, and the SMC firmware update is no longer listed. Perhaps, Apple removed it.

  • Elegent solution for dual booting MBPr mid 2012

Just finished installing Windows 7 Ultimate on Mid 2012 Macbook Pro Retina 15". I'm using Command+R to switch between systems at the moment. Anyone know of a simpler more elegant method? I'd prefer to have an automatic pop-up upon start-up instead of it loading right into whichever OS was last used.

  • How to fix MBPr (late 2013) slowdown due to defective battery w/o replacing it?

    Hi,
I have this late 2013, MBP retina 13" running OS X 10.10.2 which has a defective battery (with 'replace now' warning).
The computer is always connected to the charger (since the battery doesn't hold the charge) and I have started to notice extreme lags while doing day to day stuffs (like web surfing, word processing).
I understand its solely due to the battery issue and some have successfully fixed it with several ways
    1. Go to About this mac under the apple in the upper left and click on More info
    2. Click on system report
    3. make a note of what it says after Model Identifier
    4. go to your master drive – System -Library – Extensions – IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext -Contents – Plugins – ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext – Contents – Resources – find the name from step 3 and move it to a folder that you can find again if needed.
    3. Restart and you’re done
However the above method doesn't seem to work since I can't find relevant file for late 2013 MBPr.
Would be grateful if someone can offer me a fix until I get my battery replaced.
    Thanks

The problem you face is that a failed battery can expand and DAMAGE the MBP.  At the very least you should take the battery out of the MBP (which will require Pentalobe and Triwing drivers) or better yet, have it replaced.  Trying to disable it internally does not solve your problem.
    Ciao.

  • Which one should I buy, early or late 2013 15" mbpr refurbs?

Hi, I was looking to get a refurbished 15" mbpr and save some money.  I notice on Apple's refurb website there is a early 2013 mbpr with a faster processor (2.4GHZ i7) and NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory for 40 dollars less than the late 2013 mbpr that has a slower processor (2.0GHZ i7) and Intel Iris Pro Grahpics.  I'm looking to do mostly photo shop and was wondering what's the difference between the Nvidia and Intel Iris Pro Graphics.  Also is 0.4GHZ speed going to make much of a difference beside battery life? Thank you for your input.

I'd strongly recommend going with the refurb model. You're getting a dedicated graphics card, and a 0.4 ghz boost. Now the 0.4 ghz isn't necessarily the reason to go with it, but the GT 650m sure is.
